Captivate publish to blackboard best practices

Hello there.
I have been searching and haven't found any really good documentation on using captivate to publish to blackboard.
Or captivate publishing to blackboard best practices.
The modules are in captivate v 5.5 but the good news is we have recently upgraded to captivate 8.
Might anyone have any tips, suggestions and or warnings when taking a significant amount of captivate modules and publishing to blackboard?
Thank you in advance.

I"d really like to knoiw the answer to this question too. Can someone please assist?

  • Captivate 4.0 - Need best practice tips on panning, templates, resolution, etc.

    Hi all,
Been searching all over in case someone has already published Best Practices for Captivate 4.0 (particularly the new/enhanced features), but coming up empty. My client's in house graphics person has been tasked with creating a template for us to use for a number of software simulations. He's running in to these challenges:
    - Our SWF needs to be 800 x 600 and he created the template for this size, but the app won't fit.
    - He's found the panning feature to produce very choppy, disappointing results. Tips?
    - His suggestion is we capture at 1024 x 768, then resize to 800 x 600, then copy/paste the slides into his 800 x 600 template. Would we be better off recreating the template at 1024 x 768 and not resizing until the final output is generated for each tutorial? His concern is that our template will then become larger, making it harder for us to send back and forth as changes are made, etc.
Any other suggestions for how to deal with the resolution issue, how best to take advantage of templates, etc.?

    Hi there
In my own opinion, Panning is a nice attempt, but just doesn't cut the mustard. It's nowhere near as good as the panning one sees with Camtasia Studio.
I might suggest combining Camtasia with Captivate for the ultimate development set. There are aspects Captivate shines in when compared with Camtasia, and there are aspects Camtasia shines in when compared with Captivate. So I say if you can afford it, go for it!
Now I know that both packages are sort of pricey and not everyone can afford both. In that case you might want to try Jing, which is free to use. I've not looked very deeply at it, but it may offer some of what Camtasia does. You could then use that for your panning and enhance Captivate that way.
    Cheers... Rick

  • OEM GC Best Practices

    Greetings,
We are a shop with 5 DBAs, each responsible for different databases and we are in the process of moving to have our regularly scheduled tasks (backups, monitoring, etc.) scheduled through OEM GC. It is beginning to appear as though having an administrative account for each DBA may not be the best way to go but instead have one administrative account from which jobs are submitted. A couple of initial issues surround: one of our DBAs having just left and owning several jobs. I want to drop that account after moving those jobs to another account. Tedious. I have also just realized that for jobs to take advantage of default credentials that apparently these default credentials must be set for the account owning the particular jobs.
I am interested in how other shops handle this issue and further if Oracle or someone alse has published suggesations for best practices for setting up and administering OEM GC.
    Thank you.

  • Best Practice tips for publishing Captivate 8 project?

Does anyone have any Best Practice Tips for publishing Captivate 8 projects?  Is HTML5/Flash the most universal?
We will begin testing/training before our LMS is functional.
We have no shared network capability or SharePoint type platform.  Project is too large for e-mail even when zipped.
I am thinking that we will have to use thumb drive/CD along those lines.

  • Best practice of OSB logging Report handling or java code using publish

    Hi all,
I want to do common error handling of OSB I did two implementations as below just want to know which one is the best practice.
    1. By using the custom report handler --> When ever we want to log we will use the report action of OSB which will call the Custom java class which
Will log the data in to DB.
    2. By using plain java class --> creating a java class publish to the proxy which will call this java class and do the logging.
Which is the best practice and pros and cons.
    Thanks
    Phani

    Hi Anuj,
Thanks for the links, they have been helpful.
I understand now that OSR is only meant to contain only Proxy services. The synch facility is between OSR and OSB so that in case when you are not using OER, you can publish Proxy services to OSR from OSB. What I didn't understand was why there was a option to publish a Proxy service back to OSB and why it ended up as a Business service. From the link you provided, it mentioned that this case is for multi-domain OSBs, where one OSB wants to use the other OSB's service. It is clear now.
    Some more questions:
    1) In the design-time, in OER no Endpoints are generated for Proxy services. Then how do we publish our design-time services to OSR for testing purposes? What is the correct way of doing this?
    Thanks,

  • Best Practice for BEX Query "PUBLISH to ROLE"?

    Hello.
We are trying to determine the best practice for publishing BEX queries/views/workbooks to ROLEs.
To be clear of the process I am referring: from the BEX Query Designer, there is an option QUERY>PUBLISH>TO ROLE.  This function updates the user menu of the selected security role with essentially a shortcut to the BEX query.  It is also possible to save VIEWS/WORKBOOKS to a role from the BEX Analyzer menu.  We have found ROLE menus to be a good way to organize BEX queries/views/workbooks for our users.
Our dilemma is whether to publish to the role in our DEV system and transport to PROD,... or if it is ok to publish to the role directly in the PROD system.
Publishing in DEV is not always possible, as we have objects in PROD that do not exist in DEV. For example, we allow power users to create queries directly in PROD.  We also allow VIEWS and WORKBOOKS to be created directly in PROD.  It would not be possible to publish types of objects in DEV.
Publishing in PROD eliminates the issues above, but causes concerns for our SECURITY team.  We would be able to maintain these special roles directly in PROD.
Would appreciate any ideas, suggestions, examples of how others are handling this BEX publish-to-role process.
    Thank you.
    -Joel

    Hi Joel,
Again as per the Best Practices.Nothing to be created in PRD,even if we create them in PRD for Power users its assumed as temprory and can be deleted at any time.
So if there are already deviations then you can go for deviations in this case as well but it wont be the Best Practice. Also in few cases we have workbooks created in PRD as they cud nt be created in DEV due to various reasons...in such cases we did not think of Best Practice ,we had a raised an OSS on this aswell.
In our Project,we have done everything in DEV and transported to PRD,in case there were any very Minor changes at query level we have done in PRD and immedialtely replicated the same in DEV so that they are in SYNC.

  • Must use Captivate v4.0 to capture playing video - Best practices & PC requirements?

    Hi all,
I like Captivate, but have had a lot of trouble capturing playing video (a big part of my client's product) in the past. Despite encouraging client to consider other tools, they have decided they want to continue using Captivate and output to SWF. Some of us on the team for a previous project using v3.0 were able to successfully capture moving video, others weren't. (Vaguely recall something to do with a Hardware Acceleration setting, but it didn't work for everyone.) We've all upgraded to v4.0 but haven't used it yet. My questions are:
    1. Has this been improved at all in v4.0?
    2. What is the "optimum" PC hardware for doing this? (I am purchasing a new desktop, and need to keep cost to a minimum, BUT that is secondary to being able to produce these demos with moving video captured well!)
    3. Can you give me any best practice tips specific to capturing moving video? FYI, we will be adding audio narration (after capture), but will not be using written captions except for a few Notes/Tips.
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Is there a best practice for deleting a published report?

    Post Author: matthewh
    CA Forum: General
Is there a best practice for deleting a published report from C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\FileStore on Crystal Reports Server or can I just delete the subfolders?  Does it reference them elsewhere?  I have a load of old reports I need to shed, but can't see how to do it.

    Hi,
You can refer the SRND guide. As per document (page -292)
you can configured -You can add a maximum of 50 agents per team.

  • Best practice for highly available management / publishing servers

I am testing a highly available appv 5.0 environment, which will deploy appv packages to a Xenapp farm.  I have two SQL 2012 servers configured as an availability group for the backend, and two publishing / management servers for the front end.
What is the best practice to configure the publishing / management servers for high availability?  Should I configure them as an NLB cluster, which I have tested and does seem to work, or should I just use the GPO to configure the clients to use both
publishing servers, which I have also tested and appears to work?
    Thanks,
    Patrick Sullivan

In App-V 5.0 the Management and Publishing Servers are hosted in IIS, so use the same approach for HA as you would any web application.
If NLB is all that's available to you, then use that; otherwise I would recommend a proper load balancing solution such as Citrix NetScaler or KEMP LoadManager.

  • What is the best practice to set Captivate variables from Get (less ideal) and Post (more ideal)?

We are trying to set a couple of variables in Captivate 7 by posting the information from a URL. Is there a best practice for doing this, or does it require a custom JS or other call in order to do this?
Essentially, we want to pass three variables from a URl to named variables in a Captivate 7 swf so that the information can be drawn from a database, and does not need to be entered by the user.
Suggestions, thoughts, pointers to where we may be able to find this information - all would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure how Captivate treats FlashVars internally, but the native html template includes a script to read URL parameters:
    var strURLFull = window.document.location.toString();
    var intTemp = strURLFull.indexOf("?");
    var strURLParams = "";
    then:
    if(strURLParams != "")
       so.addVariable("flashvars",strURLParams);
It also has a script to add variables but you'd have to parse the variables first first to use it:
    so.addVariable("variable1", "value1");

Also please let me know the advantages and disadvantages using CUPS printer/RightFax Server.

You can use any of the methods you have listed to create XML data. Oracle seeded code is using PLSQL to generate XML rather than reports since reports technology will not be used in the next version of Application (aka Fusion)

  • What is the Best Practice for publishing Offline Root CA Cert and CRL to Active Directory?

    Hi,
I've read and seen in a few labs different approaches to what is published in Active Directory for a Offline Root CA.  I've seen just the Root Cert published to AD as well as the Root Cert and the Root CRL published to AD.
I can understand why the Root Cert is published to AD, but why would the Root CRL need to be published to AD, especially if my Offline Root CA just issues the Cert for my Subordinate Issuing CA?  So looking for Best Practices here.

No, the current recommended best practice is to publish to a highly
available HTTP location first (and possibly the only CDP) that is available
both internally and externally. This covers Windows and non-Windows
devices, domain joined and non-domain joined devices and internal and

  • Audio & Captivate: Looking for best practice

    Good Morning,
i'am looking for some sort of best practice, handling a lot of audios within single captivate slides. Please let us take a look at the workflow:
I write concepts in Word or OpenOffice, describing on a slide-base the content, media (pics, animations, ...), interactions
The client read these concepts, and write a reading report with all changes, additions
We held a harmonisation meeting for every 3-5 hours calculated e-learning-concepts, argueing about the clients annotations and looking for a stable agreement
I produce the first version, in this case with Adobe Captivate, and for the audios i use text2speech.
The client checks this first Version, send me his audit report.
    I produce version 1.
So, where is the problem? My problem is the handling of the audio-files, up to 10 per slide. In version 1, all audios are spoken by professional speakers from german radio-stations, recorded in our own studio. And i'am looking for a comfortable way to exchange all synthetic audios without leaving anything within captivate, the final version must be as clean and slim as possible.
For the handling and tracking i use AlienBrain, because in some projects, we have a few hundred of thousands assets to watch and track ... and it is no problem if anything wents wrong, just some clicks and i've restored the older version of a pic, audio or a complete project.
Using other tools, i do not care about this. Within the project-folders, they are stored within a modul-based audio-folder. And every single audio-files as an unique identifer (A024_37_12_004.mp4, "A" for Audio, then chapter_module_page_sequentialnumberperpage.mp4/mp3/wav). After i have recieved the spoken audios from the studio, i just overwrite the synthetic audios and the "real" audios are automatically embedded in my slides, so if i make a new release, everything is fine. Older, synthetic version kept by AlienBrain.
In Captivate, everything seems to be ... hm, i have to be polite ;-) ... a little more complicated. Or even worse, i'am unable to see the solution. Maybe somebody may share a working and fast way for the needed audio-procedure? Or something like a proofed workaround?
    Kind regards
    Marc :-)

    Additional information:
Mostly, we have 3-5 audios per slide/page. 10 is absolutely maximum.
And because we are talk about overall thousands of audio-files, i hopefully find a good way to keep them as external sources and Captivate embedd them just at the moment, when i have to produce a new release. (That is the main problem - sorry, my english language modules are still asleep after a long and busy weekend) And as i've learned, object-audio can't be used with external audio-files.
At the company, we've talked about the best process (theres is another huge project running and the guys - experienced people - are also new to captivate). At this moment, the prefered solution is to connect all audios, 4 by example. And then we can "Play/Pause" the audio at our needs. It is a little bit like stumbling blindfolded through heavy mist.
Another idea, brought up by me, was to multiply the slide so the first slide shows paragraph/pic/audio. After a click, next slide loads, exactly in the same state as the previous slides ends, next text/pic/animation and the next audio. But with that, i will end up with thousends of slides only because of the audio-handling.
Maybe it is a good idea to explain a really typically update process which may show what we like to see:
The modul is ready, delivered and the client is happy
After 6 months, there is a technical change within one part and the client need a single new audio
In reality in one special module, part of over 200 hours learning, after a year we've been instructed to record new versions for 35 of 80 audios ... in just one of somehundred modules
In captivate we try to avoid touching every single slide again.
At the moment i own just a standalone version of Captivate (5.5), the eLearning Suite has been ordered and arrives next week.
Tools we've used in the past (and until now due to clients requirements) without any problems ... dealing with audios ;-)  :

  • Best Practices for Team Collaboration using Adobe Captivate

With a team of 6 Instructional Designers, how can Adobe Captivate be approached where we can collaborate while producing e-learning material while maintaining a consistent look and feel of the e-learning we produce?
What are the best practices for a team of 6 IDs working and creating e-learning material in Captivate?  Is there anything build-in that allows us to connect to the same libraries, templates, etc to share?
    Please advise.
    Thank you!
    Susanne

Only some tips, never collaborated with someone else, being the solo teacher. You didn't mention which version you are using, what I write here is meant for CP7.
Be sure to prepare a theme and/or a template that will be used by everyone. A theme consists of master slides, object styles, skin editor. Master slides can have custom navigation shape buttons.  In a template you can eventually also prepare different slides with placeholders, and eventually advanced actions etc. For CP6 and earlier that is the only way to reuse advanced actions, in Captivate 7 you can export shared actions that can be imported in any project for reuse.
A feature that few users know about are the external libraries. You can open the library of any project as an external library in another project. That is a good idea to store assets that you want to use in different projects: images, audio clips, video clips, eventually equations. The shared actions in a library can not (yet?) be used in another project however.
If you are on CP7 you have automatically the roundtripping with source Adobe Photoshop files and source Audition files, both from CC. That can also make collaboration lot easier if those assets are prepared in those applications. Will not expand on that, because I'm not sure you have the Creative Cloud applications.
    Those are my two cents.
