Capture process created by using DBMS_CAPTURE_ADM package won't enqueue

I created Capture process using DBMS_CAPTURE_ADM.CREATE_CAPTURE on Oracle 9.2.0.6 database. It captured events, but didn't enqueue. My understanding of the difference of Capture creation between using DBMS_CAPTURE_ADM package and DBMS_STREAMS_ADM package is that the former way needs the DBMS_CAPTURE_ADM.PREPARE_TABLE_INSTANTIATION (or in schema, global level) procedure. Is there other differences? Any idea why the Capture process won't enqueue? Any help is appreciated.

To implement a streams on the same database, just skip all about propagation. Only one setup queue is done and the apply process queue name is the capture process queue name. I used this technique to setup a Streams to MQ series:

• How do I create and use a package?

Sorry for the noobish question, but I have never had the need to use a package and currently would like to learn how they work just to satisfy my own curiosity.
Suppose I have a file named Node.class in a folder named Classes, and I have another class named Main.class sitting in another folder. I want to create a Node object using the Main class.
How do I accomplish that? Would I need to use a package?
I tried to write package Classes; on my Main file but it did not work. thanks

This is an old explanation I wrote:
This is a minimal explanation of packages.
Assume that your programs are part of a package named myapp, which is specified by this first line in each source file:
package myapp;
Also assume that directory (C:\java\work\) is listed in the CLASSPATH list of directories.
Also assume that all your source files reside in this directory structure: C:\java\work\myapp\
Then a statement to compile your source file named aProgram.java is:
C:\java\work\>javac myapp\aProgram.java
And a statement to run the program is:
java myapp.aProgram
(This can be issued from any directory, as Java will search for the program, starting the search from the classpath directories.)
Explanation:
Compiling
A class is in a package if there is a package statement at the top of the class.
The source file needs to be in a subdirectory structure. The subdirectory structure must match the package statement. The top subdirectory must be in the classpath directory.
So, you generate a directory structure C:\java\work\myapp\ which is the [classpath directory + the package subdirectory structure], and place aProgram.java in it.
Then from the classpath directory (C:\java\work\) use the command: javac myapp\aProgram.java
Running
Compiling creates a file, aProgram.class in the myapp directory.
(The following is where people tend to get lost.)
The correct name now, as far as java is concerned, is the combination of package name and class name: myapp.aProgram (note I omit the .class) If you don't use this name, java will complain that it can't find the class.
To run a class that's NOT part of a package, you use the command: java SomeFile (assuming that SomeFile.class is in a directory that's listed in the classpath)
To run a class that IS part of a package, you use the command java myapp.aProgram (Note that this is analogous to the command for a class not in a package, you just use the fully qualified name)

• Create Table using DBMS_SQL package and size not exceeding 64K

I have a size contraint that my SQL size should not exceed 64K.
Now I would appriciate if some one could tell me how to create a table using
Dynamic sql along with usage of DBMS_SQL package.
Brief Scenario: Users at my site are not given permission to create table.
I need to write a procedure which the users could use to create a table .ALso my SQL size should not exceed 64K. Once this Procedure is created using DBMS_SQL package ,user should pass the table name to create a table.
Thanks/

"If a user doesn't have permission to create a table then how do you expect they will be able to do this"
Well, it depends on what you want to do. I could write a stored proc that creates a table in my schema and give some other user execute privilege on it. They would then be able to create a able in my schema without any explicitly granted create table privilege.
Similarly, assuming I have CREATE ANY TABLE granted directly to me, I could write a stroe proc that would create a table in another users schema. As long as they have quota on their default tablespace, they do not need CREATE TABLE privileges.
SQL> CREATE USER a IDENTIFIED BY a
2 DEFAULT TABLESPACE users TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
User created.
SQL> GRANT CREATE SESSION TO a;
Grant succeeded.
SQL> CREATE TABLE a.t (id NUMBER, descr VARCHAR2(10));
CREATE TABLE a.t (id NUMBER, descr VARCHAR2(10))
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01950: no privileges on tablespace 'USERS'So, give them quota on the tablespace and try again
SQL> ALTER USER a QUOTA UNLIMITED ON users;
User altered.
SQL> CREATE TABLE a.t (id NUMBER, descr VARCHAR2(10));
Table created.Now lets see if it really belongs to a:
SQL> connect a/a
Connected.
SQL> SELECT table_name FROM user_tables;
TABLE_NAME
T
SQL> INSERT INTO t VALUES (1, 'One');
1 row created.Yes, it definitely belongs to a. Just to show that ther is nothing up my sleeve:
SQL> create table t1 (id NUMBER, descr VARCHAR2(10));
create table t1 (id NUMBER, descr VARCHAR2(10))
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01031: insufficient privilegesI can almost, but not quite, see a rationale for the second case if you want to enforce some sort of naming or location standards but the whole thing seems odd to me.
Users cannot create tables, so lets give them a procedure to create tables?

Did you change any of the text in the lob write statements ?
I believe you get this error if you increase the number of characters without increasing the 1st argument which looks as though it represents the number of characters

• Permissions on files created using UTL_FILE package

The files created on unix using UTL_FILE package have permisisons rw- - - - - - -.(600). I want them to be created with permissions 640.(rw-r - - - - - ).i.e read access to the group also. The umask setting of the unix account of the oracle instance are 137. Is there any way to create the files with the required permissions.

So SQL*Plus is on your PC? I'm assuming you mean 'call' as in the windows cmd.exe command?
Sheesh this is like getting blood from a stone.
In that case you must be connecting via the listener and not internally.
In which case the umask comes from the umask that was set in the environment of the OS user who started the listener process.
Thats not necessarily the same as the owner of the oracle software (normally 'oracle').
If sysdamin joebloggs logs in and starts the listener manually in a shell, then the umask applied to all shadow processes started by the listener is whatever jobloggs umask was when he typed the command 'lsnrctl start'. The umask of the owner of the oracle software, or your umask, is utterly irrelevent.
So if you don't like the umask for files created by processes spawned by the listener, stop and restart the listener in a shell where you have explicitly set the umask to what you want it to be.
Really starting the listener should be scripted and the correct umask is put in the script just before the call to 'lsnrctl start'.

• Creating Error log files using UTL_FILE package on a remote machine

Database Version: 10g Release2
OS Platform: Sun Solaris
I have been asked to log errors to OS files rather than tables. So, i wanted to use UTL_FILE package. But the client doesn't want to store these files on the same server where the database is running(as specified in UTL_FILE_DIR). Is there a way i could get these files created on a remote machine(client).

I believe what others are suggesting is that your stored procedure continues to log to a table and a separate process be created that runs on the machine you want the file to be created on which reads the log table and writes to a log file.
If that is not an option, can you expose the directory on the remote machine you want to write the file to as a file share that can be mounted by the database server? If you can, you could write errors there using UTL_FILE. However, it would probably be a bad idea. If you're logging an error already, that implies that something has gone wrong. Making an error logging process dependent on a remote server being available and properly mounted with appropriate privileges at the instant the error occurs just creates more sources of failure that would prevent you from logging an error, which would prevent you from being able to debug the problem or even know it existed without a report from a user.

• How do we create self-signed certificate using java packages

Hi All,
I require some information on creating self-signed certificate using java packages.
The java.security.cert.* package allows you to read Certificates from an existing store or a file etc. but there is no way to generate one afresh. See CertificateFactory and Certificate classes. Even after loading a certificate you cannot regenerate some of its fields to embed the new public key – and hence regenerate the fingerprints etc. – and mention a new DN. Essentially, I see no way from java to self-sign a certificate that embeds a public key that I have already generated.
I want to do the equivalent of ‘keytool –selfcert’ from java code. Please note that I am not trying to do this by using the keytool command line option – it is always a bad choice to execute external process from the java code – but if no other ways are found then I have to fall back on it.
Regards,
Chandra

I require some information on creating self-signed certificate using java packages. Its not possible because JCE/JCA doesn't have implementation of X509Certificate. For that you have to use any other JCE Provider e.g. BouncyCastle, IAIK, Assembla and etc.
I'm giving you sample code for producing self-signed certificate using IAIK JCE. Note that IAIK JCE is not free. But you can use BouncyCastle its open source and free.

• Required to create a script for base table update using XMLSTORE package.

Hi can anybody provide me some help full suggestion on how to update base table using XMLSTORE package.
I created a simple script for Employee table and can able to do the basic operation like Insert and update on the table.

Nowi want little modification on this above query like as i am passing static XML tags and i want it to pick the dynamic XML from web and use the XMLSTORE for the update.
and also for complex XML having 2-3 levels how this query needs to be changed.As i am new to this Oracle utillity any help from xepert will be a great help for me.
Thanks

Nowi want little modification on this above query like as i am passing static XML tags and i want it to pick the dynamic XML from webFrom a Web Service?
You'll need UTL_HTTP or HttpUriType interface to send the request and receive the XML response.
Search in the forum, there are already a lot of useful examples available.
and also for complex XML having 2-3 levels how this query needs to be changed.DBMS_XMLStore is OK for readily processing a canonical XML format (/ROWSET/ROW/COLUMN structure or alike).
However, if you have to deal with a more complex structure, you either have to :
- use a target object table that matches the XML structure
- preprocess the input document using XSLT to transform it to canonical format
That's why DBMS_XMLStore is not appropriate for multilevel documents, especially if they contain nested repeating groups.
In this case, XMLTable is a more flexible way of parsing the XML and process it relationally at the same time.
Depending on the size of the document, performance may be improved with schema-based object-relational storage.
For more help, please post a new thread in the {forum:id=34} forum, with the following information :
- database version (select * from v$version)
- a sample XML document (the complex one)
- DDL of your target table
- mapping between XML elements and columns (ie which tag goes to which column?)
- an XML schema (if you have one)

*1. as to how pass/create/use variables to OWB mapping ?*
*2. Creating variables in Process Flows and using thse variables in the filter operator of the OWB mapping?*
*3. Other mechanisms of how to create/use variables within OWB mapping itself ?*
can you please provide the above details and guide me / help me in this regard.
Thanks,
skms.

1. Add parameters to your mapping using the MAPPING INPUT PARAMETER from the pallette.
2. Add parameters to the START operator in the process flow. Bind the process flow parameter to the Mapping parameter.
3. May be appropriate to use CONSTANTS instead of parameters.

• Create link using javascript or other relevant automated process

i have multiple PDF which i have combined using Acrobat pro... the table of content for this pdf does not have link as i had generated it in Word using RD fields. Now, my main concern is it possible to create links using Javascript or any other process.. i am aware of link tool however my document is very huge and the TOC comprises of around 25 pages.. it will be very cumbersome to manually add for each topic and will be difficult to maintain as we keep updating the document content..i would really appreciate if any one could help me in this as i really stuck up in middle of project...

thanks a ton for your prompt response..As i had mentioned earlier, i have around 13 sub documents. i have generated a table of contents for these document using RD fields in a seperate document and saved it as TOC.doc. As these are fields are referring to topic outside the current document, the links are not availabled in word.. i am not aware of any possible method in word to retrieve links for these topics just like how a standard TOC in word works. as i saw it PRO, there is an option to create link, i was wondering if there is any way i could automatically link these topics as in PDF, the topics are in the same document where as in WORD these are different documents.If you could suggest some work around, i would be glad
