Career Change - Question

Hello.
Cut & Dry.
Network Administrator at a defense company for 4.5 years.
Exposure to sql 2000 for roughly 2 years.
Received an opportunity at a globally known company.
Now working in an area with opportunity given, to study/learn/work in an environment that has an Oracle 10g db.
I am very interested in pursuing a certification, now here's the question. 10G or 11G? What would any of you recommend.
My degree is going to be in Management Information Systems, within the next 1.5 years.
At one point I held ccna/ccnp certifications from Cisco but let them expire. Revenue ceiling from those certs was low. Oracle on the otherhand, ceiling is alot higher.
Any recommendations? I have all the time in the world to study , and go head first. What study paths, any particular material in general. Need a basic/clean/cut&dry path to study, before taking a 10g or 11g certitficiation test for OCA.

That said
- Are you talking about DBA track? Developer track? Something else? There are a lot of different Oracle certification paths out there. If you haven't already, I'd make sure to take a good look around [Oracle's certification website|http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=50].
- Whether to pursue 10g or 11g certification is something that you probably need to discuss with your boss. If you are going to be working with a 10g database for the next N years, and you expect to get certified in the next 6 months, I'd stay with the 10g path. If you're going to be moving to 11g soon, you may want to start studying on the 11g track despite the fact that some of the information you're studying about is going to be features added in 11.1 and not available for your day to day work.
- Just about anything you'd want to learn about Oracle is on [http://tahiti.oracle.com|http://tahiti.oracle.com]. That's an excellent place to start. There are also plenty of OCA/ OCP study guides out there that do an adequate job of preparing you for the exam itself. If the intention is to learn about Oracle, I'd focus on tahiti.oracle.com. If the intention is merely to pass the exams, any study guide from a reputable publisher is probably sufficient.

When I setup my new MacBook Pro, something slipped by me and my computer was named First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro (using my real first and last name).
I changed the computer name in Preferences/Sharing to a new name and Preferences/Accounts to just be Mike. I can right click on my account name, choose advanced, and see that everything looks right.
However, If I do a scan of my network with my iPhone using the free version of IP Scanner, it lists my computer as First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro! And it lists the user as First-Last.
So even though another Mac just sees my new computer name, and my home folder is Mike, somewhere in the system the original setup with my full name is still stored. And it's available on a network scan. So my full name might show up at a coffee shop.
Can I fully change the name without doing a complete re-install of Lion and all my apps?

One thought... you said the iPhone displayed your computer's old name? I think that you must have used the iPhone with this computer before you changed the name. So no one else's iPhone should display your full name unless that iPhone had previously connected to your Mac. For example, I did this exact same change, and I use the Keynote Remote app to connect with my MacBook Pro. It would no longer link with my MacBook Pro under the old name, and I found that I had to unlink and then create a new link under the new name. So the answer to your question is, there is nothing you need to do on the Mac, but rather the phone, and no other phone will display your full name.

Career change - BI or ABAP

It would be much grateful if any forum experts could scribble few lines of advice at this juncture of a career change for me.
Basically a enginnering graduate in mechanical, I was always been interested in a level of programming as well as business processes..so ERP was always in the back of my mind..But my entry to IT has been associated with more of the UI stuff (to be specific, less of java and more of RIA) in my past 4 yrs exp in coding. But now I have taken a career break and am thinking of getting trained in SAP. I want to move away from more of UI development which I have always felt unthankful.
Since, I had a year's experience in purchase at the start of my career, I was thinking of taking up ABAP now and later down the years, I could move more towards a techno-functional role so as to satisfy my interests..Is this fine? I am unaware of ABAP's future directions.
Or I can opt for a training in BI, which also I believe is hot at the moment, and guess will be. But without a computer science background, is it fine to take up BI and become an expert? Also, will i be able to embrace the functional part down the line if I start with BI? What exactly will a BI expert be doing (nature of work) deep down his career path?

correct me if I am wrong. You don´t have any idea about how it works in SAP, how to navigate around, the concepts, nothing about theprogramming, about the database concept and stuff. Is that right? If yes, don´t think about the ABAP basics as the target, it will be thepath to the overall knowledge of the SAP system.
You will learn how it works, about the transactions, SAP standard, function modules, general rules you can use any time and that will provide you a better basis for your decision. After like 2 weeks playing with SAP ABAP trial (minisap) you will understand much more and you can ask the question again, with ability to ask about the details important for you.
In ABAP trial you can play with both ABAP language itself or the BI. Try, learn the basics and reconsider your question.

Networking Engineer = Good choice for a Career change ?

Hi Cisco forum . I am a 48yr old CNC Engineer in Stoke ( UK ) ,bored to death with it . I am about to take the COMPTIA A+ exam in 4 weeks , which will lead on to the Cisco Networking course ( if I pass ) .Please can you inform me if there will be a career for me ( out there in the real world ), when I complete the full course . Is Networking & its relevant jobs still a Good Career change ? I have found the networking part of the A+ course the most interesting , so I hope that your replies !!! , are favourable . As previous poster said, a lot depends on how keen you are to learn networking. I switched from being a Unix admin to a network person because as with you i found the networking parts by far the most interesting. But i had to do a lot of extra work outside normal work hours to get up to an acceptable level.
You will also need a certain amount of luck/persistence. I would certainly encourage you to take the course but as you are already probably aware experience is just as important as knowledge. Is there any chance that within your current job you might be able to get some exposure to networking while you study.
if you can't then i would srongly recommend you try and pick up some second hand kit off e-bay to practice with.
As for good career change. There will always be a demand for good networking people and if you truly enjoy learning about networks you are already well on the way.
I would also recommend having a look at http://www.jobserve.co.uk which will give you an idea of what type of jobs are available in your area and in the UK as a whole.

I would like to convey my sincere thanks to all members in advance, hope to hear from you soon. I would highly appreciate your advise, am looking for a career change. I am 42yo, currently working as a lecturer of Marketing and Strategic Mgmt in UK for the last 10 years, now keen to change my career. I have passed MBA in International Mgmt and Finance a few years ago. As part of Strategic mgmt, I also teach some bits of finance such as P&L, Cash flow forecast, Balance sheet, Ratio analysis and Investment decisions. I enjoy the analysing and decision making process. My general IT skills are moderate. I am considering to pursue a SAP certification in FI/CO.
Could someone please throw some light, whether I stand a chance or not of getting a job in SAP FI/CO after passing this course, considering my age and having no experience in IT.

Page Background Change Question

i do not know the technical language to use to ask this question, and for that i apologize.
Anyway, i was wondering two things.
i am wanting to create a newsletter larger than the average size (more like newspaper size). i can choose the size in page set up, however, the template that i use does not appear to resize with the new page size. So, the background (in this instance the grey background used with the "Extreme Newsletter" template does not resize with the page. If i select that background, i see it outlined with a very slim blue line with little x's at the corner... but i can't resize the image, change the color, or do anything else to it. So that background only takes up about a quarter of the page...
Can these backgrounds be changed? If so, how do i do it, i can't seem to find anything on this in help...

FTP Adapter Properties change - question

Friends,
I am new to SOA 11G suite. We ahve a FTP connection configured on the Weblogic using FTP adapter. I want to change the password of the FTP configuration which I do by using following steps but the password does reflect the change after I relogon to Console or actually run the application I deployed which uses the FTP Connection. I would like to know if I am missing any steps :-
1. Selected my specific connnection in the connection factory
2. Changed the password through properties tab
3. Checking the Ftpadapter (under Deployment) and clicking the Update button.
4. Tried both option - Update application and Redeploy option.
5. It gives me messages the changes were succesfull
6. I click the Active Changes button again
7. It gets me to the logon page and I relogon to Weblogic console
8. When I recheck the password for my FTP connection it does not reflect the change.
Am I missing anything ? Please advise

Thanks Arik for response. I figured it our earlier that I was not pressing the ENTER key after changing the password but just clicking the SAVE button. Well, I have to pull my self out of these kind of beginner blunders.
Since I passed over the hurdle, can I bug you with related question :-
I have the BPEL process that actually is polling for a file using FTP adapter on one of our servers. (This FTP password is not the one I changed in above steps). The same BPEL process after reading the file transforms the XML And sends the output to the other FTP server (for which I had changed the password in the above step. However after I went through the password change and update etc the BPEL process has stopped polling the file from the source FTP server. The file is there but it is not getting picked up and the BPEL process is not gettng initiated.
Do I need to restart the SOA services to make this work ?

You would need to run the Cost Center Change Action to make the Org. Assignment Change.
With this action,it will reflect the new Cost Center for the Employee.

Podcast Name Change Questions

Hello,
I've had an all-Canadian Music Podcast out for a year now and it's done well for a small podcast. However, I've decided to make some changes in hopes of reaching more listeners and a name change is being considered. I have a few concerns before doing this, so hopefully you guys can help.
Over the past year the show has surprisingly received 74 ratings and a lot of really nice reviews in iTunes. It has also found it's place in the iTunes "What's Hot" section and has stayed there for 6 months or so now. My concern with a name change is loosing ratings/reviews and the feature in What's Hot. It takes a lot of hard work to get recognition in iTunes and I don't want to throw away a year of efforts that made these small victories happen.
So, will changing the name have any effect in iTunes?
I use Libsyn as my host server and from there, changing the name is a simple process. I just want to make sure things won't change drastically in iTunes.

There shouldn't be any problems. There may be a bit of a delay before the change appears in the Store but it won'ot affect anything - the basic identifier of the podcast is its ID number.
