Catalog broken

Hi all,
I'm coming to you guys because it's not the first time I get a strange error after I mad a small modification in my requests in Answer.
I change a report (e.g :add a column, change the size of the graphe ).after I save the request I cannot open any more all the reports.
The catalog completely break and I got the following error:
Dashboard Display Error
Error reading object: /shared/Statistical reports/_portal/Reports/Report1
Error Details
Error Codes: IVL7WLMD:UH6MBRBC
Sax parser returned an exception. Message: Invalid document structure, Entity publicId: , Entity systemId: , Line number: 1, Column number: 1
I cannot understand how a such small change can completely screw up the whole catalog.fortunately I have a Backup copy that I can restore.
Any help is welcome guys
Regards

Hi,
Can you give us your environment setup? BI Server OS, Database Server OS, Database type and version, client OS, client browser, custom OBIEE or BI APPs, does it happen in DEV/TEST/PROD?
Does it only happen when you modify an existing report or does it also happen when you create a new report?
I've done quite a few OBIEE initiatives on different platforms and I have not encountered this particular issue before. The closest problem I had was that I copied a catalog from Unix to Windows and some of the .atr files and XML files got some garbage characters inserted into their names. I had to clean up about 10% of the report names and it was fine.

  • How can I repair broken raw files after restoring  a PSE 11 catalog to a new PC?

I recently purchased a new PC so a performed a Catalog Backup on the old PC and then restored it on the new PC.  All the files are there, however, all of the RAW files are not accessible.  They show up in the catalog with the broken file icon and cannot be opened.  Is there anyway to repair the RAW files without having to do a complete backup and restore again?   CW

Thanks for the quick response.  If ACR is the Raw PlugIn I checked that and my camera is supported by the version I have.  I have been working with RAW files before with no problems.

  • How to fix a broken catalog

So the update to LR3 was due and I thought a good time for a bit of house keeping and make changes long due. I have a Win 7 machine, folder used to be C:\Eigene Bilder. In there Raw, JPGs and Catalog files. So moved the RAWs out (I only shoot raw) to C:\RAW and moved the catalog files (LR2 and LR3beta) with it. Changing catalog source did not work. Neither did Import catalog work - well no actually both did work for quite a while but the result in both cases was that none of the photos is displayed - just a grey frame with no content whatsoever. I see that pictures are somehow imported because the number is right, the tags per photo are there and for instance the camera and lens tags are there in each picture.
Appreciate any ideas to fix that catalog again, so that I see the pictures small and large again.
    Best Regards
    Hubert

    In the meantime I have
    gotten calibration gear (Color Plus)
created and set color profiles for all monitors.
On both monitors I see no notable difference between color profile loaded or not.
I can work on one monitor now. The second monitor shows a terribly color distorted picture (not usable at all). This behaviour occurs only with LR. Any other app uses any monitor in any combination perfectly.
I mean on that machine I have used LR 2.x and the LR 3 beta without problem. No fundamental change to the machine, its configuration or operating system has occurred.  Isn't there a way to get back to this default behaviour?
BTW: I had also pinged support who suggested to remove my preference file. That did not change anything.
    Thx for any hints

  • I think my hard drive is broken and I need a backup - urgent!

Last night I updated my Mac's (Macbook Pro from January 2012) software for the first time in a few months. I had three updates, one of which was a security update from this month. Everything installed, though it took a bit longer than usual, then the computer rebooted. While rebooting, my screen froze with a spinning colour wheel and the pop-up from the update; the progress bar was about a quarter done and it said "writing files..." underneath. I quickly Googled on my phone if it was safe to force a shut down and read that it was. Then I went to bed thinking, "I'll start my computer in safe mode tomorrow morning and be sure to buy an external hard drive this week." (I know, I KNOW I am an idiot for not doing this sooner; my excuse is that I didn't have the money and I always forgot about it when I went out to run errands. I thought about just paying for extra Dropbox but I recently moved countries and don't have a credit card anymore. I've already been beating myself up over this for hours.) I have been looking up a LOT of things and have read so much that could be relevant to my situation, but there is always something that is slightly different so I thought I would explain my own situation in detail. (And sorry about the spelling mistakes, with my Mac shot I had to switch to a laptop I can't stand using.)
Well, I woke up the next day and started the Mac in safe mode. It took a long time, but a quick Google search showed that was normal too. I clicked around a bit, thought about opening Disk Utility, but didn't because the Apple article I was reading about safe mode didn't mention it. I opened Finder, clicked the Apple and hit and restart, and that is when the trouble began.
When trying to start normally, there was a progress bar under the grey apple. I had never seen it before for a normal start-up. Eventually the Mac just shut down. I tried starting it in safe mode again, it also shut down a fraction of the way into the progress bar.
Next I ran Disk Utility. When verifying my Macintosh HD, I got errors such as "incorrect number of threads when running" and something about an incorrect catalog. At the end of the verification, I got the prompt that Disk Utility needed to repair the files. I clicked Repair, it started to fix things, but eventually red errors still came up and got the message "Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files."
At this point I raced to the nearest electronics store, money be damned, and came home and attached my new hard drive to the Mac. It was recognized on the left side when I opened Disk Utility again. When I selected my hard drive and clicked "New Image" and selected the destination as my new hard drive, I very quickly got the error "Unable to create disk image using disk utility (error -61)".
After a brief mental breakdown I shut down the computer again and rebooted in single-user mode. I typed "fsck -fy", a few lines of text entered immediately, then I hit enter. It started searching until it ended with the error "The volume Macintosh HD could not be fully verified." Now I've turned the Mac off and don't plan on turning it back on until I have a solution.
One suggestion that I have read on all of these walk-throughs is to insert the installation disk that comes with your Mac. Well, I definitely never had one and now I can't get on my Mac to put OS X Recovery on a USB.
I am ordering DiskWarrior later today when I can borrow a credit card, it should get here in less than 48 hours according to the German company that sells it here. Will that be too late for my files? Is there anything else I can try for getting my data off my Mac? I tried to use Time Machine when I first got the Mac but for some reason didn't, either it was too complicated for me as a new user or there were monthly payments involved or something. In any case, when I tried to restore a backup using Time Machine, no options came up.
Is it possible this was caused by the software update or is it just a horrible coincidence? I have never had any problems with my Mac before so I just cannot believe these two things are unrelated.

In case anyone comes across this thread while having similar problems, here is how the rest of the situation played out:
Alsoft did not get in touch by the time I had my Apple store appointment. At the Genius Bar, the Genius who was helping me tried Target Disk Mode as well as a few other tests to determine if it was the cable attaching the hard drive or the hard drive itself that was broken. It turns out the hard drive was the problem and there was nothing that could be done to recover the files. I asked if I could keep the hard drive and, being under Apple Care, I could buy it for 157 euros (about $225), which I agreed to do before I left.
By the end of the day I had heard from Alsoft, who said it's usually possible to "rent" the hard drive from Apple with a deposit and then return it to them after a few days. It is then possible to attach the old hard drive to your fixed Mac, run DiskWarrior, and make a report that can determine the state of your files (I think - didn't get a lot of details). In any case, the guy that emailed me from Alsoft said it was probable that the files could be retrieved despite everyone at the Apple store trying not to let me get my hopes up.
In any case, it all turned out wonderfully in the end - I went to pick up my Macbook a week later and Apple had been able to transfer everything (except a few pieces of music) from the old hard drive onto the new one! I didn't have to pay to keep the old drive either. And of course, the first thing I did when I started using my Mac again was make a backup using Time Machine. (And since then I've realised that I'm actually running Lion instead of Mountain Lion, oops.)
So if you find yourself in a similar situation, be sure to contact Alsoft as it seems like there are still other ways to retrieve your files.

  • Broken Pipe Error when using database link

We are using WebLogic 6.1 sp2 / oracle database 8.1.6. / thin drivers.
The connection works fine, unit I try to access a view that has a union and db links
    in it.
We have used one or the other (view or a dblink) and it works, but when used together,
    we get broken pipe error.
I haven't proven that this is the cause, I will try to setup a test, but I was wondering
if this is a known issue or what ??
    thanks
    Rich

You need to create the catalog views that support distributed SQL in your remote database (the database you connect to via db_link).
To create these views, connect "/ as sysdba" and run:
    $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/catproc.sql
which will in turn call several other scripts including: $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/catrpc.sql (which creates your missing view)
It is best to run the whole catproc.sql script (and not just the catrpc script).
You can run and rerun catproc.sql several times quite safely.

  • Photos missing from catalog list

Ok, let's see if I can explain my problem.  I had all of my photos saved on an external hard drive.  After recently purchasing Adobe PSE 9, I began to organize all of my photos using PSE.  I had my photos organized into album categories and then broken down further into albums. For example, category:  Halloween and then Halloween 2009, Halloween 2010, etc.  I upload/backed up my pictures to photoshop.com. Now all of my catalog names are still listed on the right side of the screen, but the albums in each catagory are gone.  Also, the photos are still displayed in the Media Browser and they each have a green tag that says the photo is in a particular Album.  But I can no longer view my pics by album, I have to scroll through all 10,000 pictures to find the ones I want.
    How can I fix this?

It seems that all the albums/categories are in collasped state. You would need to expand all the albums/categories from the albums panel.

  • How to edit/print photos marked with an icon displaying a broken rectagle?

I have been trying to print pictures displaying a broken rectangle. When I open up the pictures, they will not become clear on the screen and consequently I can not edit them. They seem to be missing the base part of the picture that must be lost in my computer. Thanks for the help. Debby

    > Yes they were moved from my photo file to Adobe starting edition.
PSA SE does not store the picture files anywhere. It only catalogs what you have. If you deleted them from My Photos after importing into PSA SE, the image files are now lost [unless you have a backup or they are in the Recycle Bin].

  • Backing up photos and catalog to second hard drive

i just installed Photoshp elements 7 on xp home machine.  i have done a lot of work to tag much of my collection.   i know from using databases like this, they can be corrupted.  i want to back up the catalog before that happens.  however when i go to file and back up catalog to hard drive, dvd etc.  it just sits there for a long time and then eventually just crashes.  i have done the "ctrl, alt, shift" thing to optimize and repair (tho it said it wasn't broken) and it still crashes.  is this a bug, or am i not doing something i should be.
    Thanks for you help.
    Deb

You have not made it clear where the external hard drive is located and what access rights it has.
For example if the external drive is out on the network somewhere then the network could be the problem. With regard access rights, if the directory on the external drive was created by a different user to the user name you are using to do the backup, that could be the problem.
My suggestion is to do the backup into a directory on the XP machine and check that it works there. If it does then it is drive problem not an PE problem.
In my case I back the catalog on the main computer and then use MS SyncToy to keep a copy on a second computer. In your case you could copy over file to the other drive or use SyncToy to put it on another drive, but as one of the other contributers pointed out, the back up of the catalog will keep the same file structure as the original.

  • After installing windows 8.1 all images in LR5 show up as blank grey, regardless of catalog.

As title says, after I installed Windows 8.1 all the images in LR5.4 show up as a blank grey color. Doesn't matter which catalog, or module. This includes on import, etc.

    Broken monitor profile, most like.
Try reprofiling your monitor, or - as a test - setting it to sRGB and restarting your machine/Lightroom.

  • Migration to New Mac Has Catalog Confused

I've bought a new iMac Retina 5K and I migrated my files from my old Mac via Thunderbolt.
As far as I can tell, everything went well except LR. All the photos are in their places, but the LR catalog Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat references files in the Home directory of the old machine: Users/oldhome/pictures/Lightroom... instead of Users/newhome/Pictures/Lightroom...
I though I would be clever and use BBEdit to edit a copy of Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat and replace each instance of oldhome with newhome. Didn't work; the library was corrupted in the process.
I don't understand why, with the catalog links broken, LR can still display high-res versions of the photos. Of course, it can't do anything except display them.
Will I have to go through 15,000 photos, relinking them to their true locations?
Other issues: "The Creative Cloud Files folder located at Users/oldhome/Creative Cloud Files cannot be found... Not fixed.
I had to reinstall the Creative Cloud 2014 desktop application. Fixed.
I had to reinstall the Creative Cloud 2014 application manager. Fixed.
    Thanks for reading!

Thanks for your concern. I'll repeat what I said originally. "I though(t) I would be clever and use BBEdit to edit a copy of Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat" A copy. I edited a copy, leaving the original lrcat file untouched.

  • "Name Dictionary" not found in "document catalog" of PDF

    Hi All,
I am working with a PDF parser and while parsing a PDF file I found that while reading document catalog of PDF, the "Name Dictionary" which I got is not present in PDF file but When I updated to Adobe Reader X it seems to be working fine.
So, I decided to check some of the other PDF viewers like Sumatra PDF, Nitro PDF & Evince to open the same fine in them and I found that all of them reported that the file is broken.
The PDF code for document catalog is as follows:
    44 0 obj <>/Names 53 0 R/Metadata 17 0 R/AcroForm 52 0 R/Pages 41 0 R/NeedsRendering true/StructTreeRoot 34 0 R/Type/Catalog>> endobj
Here '/Names' tag has value '53 0 R' which is not present in file So, my question is how to handle this kind of error?
    Thanks,
    Pankaj

    Hi Pankaj,
    the PDF reference sais:
An indirect reference to an undefined object shall not be considered an error by a conforming reader; it shall be treated as a reference to the null object.
    EXAMPLE 2
If a file contains the indirect reference 17 0 R but does not contain the corresponding definition then the indirect reference is considered to refer to the null object.
This info could be found in the PDF 32000-1:2008 document 7.3.10 (Indirect Objects).
    Cheers,

  • How to convert catalog from 3.2 to Elements 8?

On Oct. 11 you answered a question
similar to mine and I have followed your instructions through the "reconnecting missing files", but there is a broken link that is supposed to show me how to configure Windows Explorer to look for poisioned files.  Could you please walk me through this process?  Also, the Elements 8 is now telling me that "new files have been found in my Watched Folders" and wants to know if I want to add them to my Media Browser.  This would defintely load my pictures into the new program but unfortunately, it would not include the collections or tags I've already spent years attaching.  Should I click "no" before we proceed?  I was afraid to do that and then still not be able to load my catalog.  Please advise.

Yes, in your current situation I would click NO to adding those new files from the Watched Folders at this time.  You want to complete the process of converting your older catalog first.
I suspect that you are referring to one of John Ellis's FAQs, so perhaps John will respond soon. Otherwise someone else can try to help you, if you give a more specific reference to where you are reading these instructions.

  • Trouble converting a catalog from Adobe Photoshop Album into Elements 9

I have looked all over and found instructions for converting a catalog from Adobe Photoshop Album into Photoshop Elements 9, but it does not see my catalog?  I have tried selecting it by clicking "Find More Catalogs" and I select the folder containing the catalog but it does not show up and the option to "Show Previously Converted Catalogs" is disabled?  I am quite frustrated, as the entire reason for purchasing Adobe Photoshop Elements was to be able to import my old Photoshop Album catalog.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the suggestion, I have tried converting the catalog from the psa file as well as restoring from the psb (backup) file and neither one is working on my new computer.  It partially converts the catalog from Photoshop Album (PSA) 2 but then all the file links are broken in Photoshop Elements (PSE) 9.  I have about 10,000 photos in this catalog, so it is a lot of files.  I still have my old computer so I tried installing PSE 9 on it and then it converted the PSA catalog fine, so I backup up the PSE 9 catalog on my old computer and tried doing a restore from this backup on my new computer and same thing, only some of the files come through.

  • Is it possible to sort the catalog codes?

    Hi
We use catalogs on notification for object, part, damage etc.
    The code is numeric.
But for the user it can be difficult to find the correct code to use, as the list is not sorted.
Is there a way to sort the list of catalog codes on the description field?
    Best regards
    Tom

Catalog codes are not linked to technical object types but, fundamentally should be linked so as to give more clarity to the thought process. For e.g, you have centrifugal pumps as technical object type, you can have catalog codes for either for this object type or it can me made common for all pumps.
Now for damage, cause, activities and tasks, you can actually maintain the few codes same across catalog profiles. For e.g. pump, gear box, compressors, etc the codes of damage can be 0010-Broken, 0020-Leaked, etc. The only catalog code group, which will change is the object part as it will vary with equipment types.
This will actually help you in running your reports effectively. For e.g. you can look for all failures, which were due to 'Leaked' as the damage.
    I hope this helps.

  • Slideshow in Elements 9: Shows some pictures as "broken"

    Hi
When I run a slideshow from Elements 9, the "View/Edit/Organisein Full screen" option, quite a few of the pictures appear "broken" and a "broken" type icon appears.  It seems to get worse after that. I'm showing an album of 90 pictures, mixture of JPEG, PSD, RAW files.  At first I though the app only supported JPEG but when I stop at the broken file, locate it, and start the slideshow from there, it dissplays fine.
Is this a known bug or limitation?  Any fix or workaround?
I have PSE9 and 9.0.3.0 patch installed.  Running on a i7 Dell PC with 4GB RAM (so in  theory plenty horsepower)
    Any advice appreciated
    thanks
    Stephen

Please ensure that Thumnails are properly gereated for all the files in your catalog. This happens usually when bigger size thumbnail is not readily available to show.
