Catalog management and splitting?

Win XP, LR3.4.1
I've over 200k of images, over about 11 spindles totalling 6tb, is there a suggestion of the best practice with regard to catalogs? multiple cats? one for each spindle... one monster cat?  by year or some other criteria? subject?  (I did try merging two of about 70k and 50k images and that fell over big time corrupting both! I had backed them up before the merge :- )
Any experience or suggestions most welcome.
thanks

I agree with the previous post.
One catalog is the best solution in my opinion.
Reasons:
1) If you have several catalogs you have to remember which images are in which catalog.
2) Every time you switch catalogs LR will shut down and start up. This is time consuming and chances are that with time you don't remember where a certain image is and you have to "flip" through several catalogs to find it.
3) In theory you can have different catalogs for non-overlapping subject matter. Trouble is "non-overlapping" is often not possible. Also, as your photography develops some subject matter might become "overlapping" with other subject matter in the future.
In LR you can "separate" your assets within one catalog easily and elegantly by
a) retaining your spindles and/or
b) using keywords and/or
c) using Collections.

  • Cannot open Catalog Manager and Job Manager on Windows 7 (11.1.1.6.2 BP1)

    Hi,
We recently upgraded to OBIEE version 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 and installed Client tools from the same version (downloaded from Oracle Support). Once installed, ODBC connections are created to connect to the BI Server and we are able to connect to BI Server using Administration Tool. But Catalog Manager and Job Manager are not opening.
Is there any setup missing to make Catalog Manager and Job Manager work?
    Thanks in advance.

It is a known bug. Please find the solution here.

  • Difference between Catalog manager and Catalog in Answer (BIEE11g)

    Hi,
I found that the functionality of Catalog Manager and Catalog in Answer is very similar. They can both archive catalog and unarchive catalog.
Actually, what is the difference between them? so that I know when to use Catalog manager, when to use Catalog in Answer.
    Thanks

    User ...,
There are multiple differences here but the main dilineating factors I believe are administration and maintenance.
Although the Catalog page in OBIEE 11g allows you to see the objects in the catalog and even set some permissions all of the other features for patching, merging, and producing exported metadata about the catalog objects are in the Catalog Manager tool - that is the non-web-based applications.
The addition of the Catalog page to OBIEE is definitely helpful and eliminates several operations which in the past had to be conducted in the Catalog Manager but there are still many functions that don't and probably won't ever be incorporated into the catalog web-based page in OBIEE.
Let me know if that helps,
    Christian

  • Remove Batch Management and Split Valuation Dependencies

    Hi,
I need to remove Batch Management Indicator and Split Valuation for a material. Which one should I do first? Are these dependent on one another?
    Thanks,
    Jograd

You are correct. It did cause lots of error when i tried to do it in test client.
I am trying to remove the valuation category of one right now. It has zero stock and no open documents.
I saw in note Note 155874 - Change valuation category in material master that you need to do this:
    2. If you change from split to joint valuation, no valuation data must
    exist for a valuation type.
I dont know where to start doing that? Because there is not data for the material. However i noticed that there is valuation for previous period. do i need to delete that too? But there are no stocks for the previous period.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Jograd

  • Catalog Management and Contractor's agreement in MM

    Hi Experts,
Please provide idea how to configure catalog management in vendor searching of MM?
Secondly, configuring contractor's agreement is to be envisaged through AC03 only or any other way out is there?

    hello,
what do you mean under Catalog management?  the integration of an OCI Catalog for Purchasing?
If yes, this are the basic settings in Customizing of Purchasing:
SPRO -> ... -> Purchasing -> Environment Data -> Web Services: ID and Description
let me explain the parameter setting needed for the catalog: (this is valid for a CCM-Catalog)
    Nr. Name Value
    10 http://.........
    20 SAP-LANGUAGE sy-langu
    30 SAP-CLIENT xxx
40 CATALOGID TEST_PURCHASING_CATALOGUE (Name of catalog you want to use)
    50 LOCALE sy-langu
60 CCM-USER (user for logon to catalog)
70 CCM-PASSWORD (PassWord for logon to catalog)
Remark:  You have to consider that you can use only one catalog.
if you use any different catalog (SRM-MDM, Bugseye, Requisite, etc) you have to contact your catalog provider for these settings

  • Batch management and split valuation

    Hello
Clients wants to report stock by batch level on SAP BI.
BW stock extracted from R3 is correct on material level. R3 doesnt show stock value for batch.
Some batches have the following issue :
    only two transactions :
    Transaction    Quantity     Value
    Receipts            100          1000
    Issue                  100           900
R3 shows (MB5B) 0 stock quantity for this batch. Data extraction from R3 shows 0 quantity and stock for this batch.
But  if you calculate stock using movements then it wont be 0.
Can somedody tell me why it happens.
    Thanks

is this is a sap standard best practice?
    pls explain in detail.

  • Catalog Manager crashing - JVM Terminated. Exit code=1

I have to localize my project. I'm trying to use Catalog Manager to export out the Captions from the catalog. Here on my Windows box I have done this against my local OBIEE (10.1.3.4), using a very, very small catalog, just as a proof of concept. It works just fine!
Now I am trying to do the exact same thing against a copy of the larger catalog from my linux box. I've copied the entire OracleBIData directory from the linux box to my local C:\OracleBIData_linux directory.
I open Catalog Manager and select File / Open Catalog. I select Type: Offline, and Browse to the location of my catalog (C:\OracleBIData_linux\web\catalog\samplesales). I hit OK...
First, everything seems OK. There is a single folder "/" in the tree. When I expand on folder, it expands to three folders: "shared", "system", "users". So far it's OK. But now if I click on any of those folders, the Catalog Manager window closes and I get this big error pop-up:
    Catalogmanager--------------
    JVM Terminated. Exit code=1

    -Declips.noRegistryCache-true
    -jar C:\OracleBI\wb\catalogmanager\startup.jar
Granted, I shouldn't have built my own project in "samplesales", but could that have anything to do with it? I also doubt this is because I'm doing this on my Windows box against a catalog copied from a linux machine. But...<shrug>
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm totally stuck here.

  • Split valuation with batch management and project stock

    Dear Gurus,
I need to combine two following requirements:
    1. split valuation with batch management (valuation type = batch number)
    2. project stock
These two functionalities work fine separately but not together.
I receipt PO for material with spiit valuation on a batch level into a project stock. Posting is OK and material document (MSEG table) seems to be OK (batch number, valuation type and project stock are in this table). The problem appears when I want to display material in this valuation type (MM03) or batch (MSC3n). They don't exist!!!  Short investigation showed that during goods receipt table MBEW (valuated stock) was not updated with this valuation type.
But If PO is receipt into normal stock first and then posted into project stock everything is OK.
Have you had or heart about such issue? I would appreciate any sugestion.
    Thsnks in advance.
    Marcin Bernat

    Hi,
As you already know ,u are using project stock and doing goods receipt against project, stock table QBEW will be updated and not MBEW. MBEW only updates in case of plant stock valuation. If u receive any goods against project stock it does not contribute to plant stock. Irrespective whether your material is managed in split valuation or not, If it is received against project stock it only updates QBEW. There is no need to update MBEW, if u r using split valuation in project. QBEW also have valuation type as another level like MBEW. If u want to see material price for project stock, it can be  seen in QBEW -valuation type and not in mm03.
As u r receiving goods against project stock this is d only reason QBEW is updated and not MBEW.
QBEW will store all information like MBEW for batch number, valuation type and project stock assignment.
    Hope it answers your question.
    Deepak.

  • Imported images into single project are split into managed and referenced

I've noticed a behavior twice recently that I can't seem to trace. Background: Big Aperture library on its own internal drive, gets re-copied to new drive every month or so. 439,591 images. Probably about 350-400 GB on a 500GB drive.
Last night, I was importing by reference 956 images from two separate cards (537 and 419 images) simultaneously (one FW400 Lexar reader, one USB SanDisk reader). — something I do often
The import was very slow. Seemed like it was hung up, but I remained patient. Eventually it finished.
The project now has 956 images, with 137/537 managed and 310/419 managed, even though the import was set up to be referenced.
The directory where they were supposed to be stored has 920 items.
Drilling down into the Aperture library contents shows Two directories in Masters for that date, one with 137, one with 310.
This tells me that in the process of the import, Aperture managed to turn 956 files into 1367 total, between the three places, and create a confusing problem that I have to work out manually.
Looking back in the masters section, I see that it appears to have possibly happened a few other times.
Has anybody else observed this behavior? Anybody know how to solve it? Aperture has been making me nervous lately.
I should add that I've already tried repair permissions and repair database. I'm a little nervous about the rebuild database option.

  • Cannot delete users from Catalog Manager

We're trying to delete users who no longer have access to OBIEE from the Catalog Manager. When we try we get an error saying access denied for user to path /users/[userid]... I know we can go out to the file system and manually delete the folder but we would like to use the Catalog Manager for this so that we can delegate this to our security staff.
Is a configuration setting wrong somewhere? It fails with users who have been granted admin rights as well as for the administrator id.
Security is configured with Hyperion Shared Services via an initialization block This is working fine. When we add a user to a group in Shared Services, the user catalog is created when the user logs in. We just can't get rid of it after removing the user from the Shared Services group.
We are running everything except the Admin Tool on AIX.
    Thanks.
    Jerry

    I'm not sure I understand.
My system is configured to use Hyperion Shared Services for authentication. We do not create users in OBIEE. We create groups in OBIEE and assign them privileges. We then create the same groups in Shared Services. We add users to the appropriate group in Shared Services. When the user logs in, their user folder is created. When we need to remove a user's access, we take them out of the Shared Services group. We then want to delete their user folder in the catalog. We log in as an admin (we even tried this with the Administrator account), but we get the error.
Is there any way to delete users via OBI Presentation Services > Administration > Manage Catalog?
    Thanks.
    Jerry

  • How to update csv file dynamically  from Catalog manager

HI - In OBIEE we used to generate report statistics into csv files from Catalog manager. But this task should be automatic or dynamic process. So it means that each and every when catalog get changes that information will be captured into CSV file by dynamic way. To achieve this process we should have one script or batch etc.............
    Your help is highly appreciated.

Yes we can achieve this by enabling Usage Tracking.
Create a report with all the columns you need and schedule the report using Agents with some time frame say like EOD everyday. There we can see what all the changes as done to the catalog.
Do let me know if you need any help to achieve this.
    Mark if helps,

  • PSE 11 Catalog not showing up in Catalog Manager

My latest battle with PSE11 is trying to access my catalog in PSE11 via the Catalog Manager but it doesn't show up in the list.  The catalog is named My Catalog 2 is located at C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\My Catalog 2.  It is the only catalog I use and is the one that opens up when I launch Organizer.  But, for the life of me, I can't get it to show up in the Catalog Manager.  The only catalog that shows up is the original catalog which is at a different location and was created when I installed PSE11 on my new computer (Thinkpad W530, Windows 8).  I've tried the Custom Location option and browsing to the location, but still no dice.  This catalog has thousands of pictures and was converted from my previous PSE6 catalog.  How do I get the Catalog Manager to find my current active catalog?  I need to do a repair to try and fix another problem I'm having.

This all really started with the migration from my ancient Inspiron 8600 Win XP computer to my new Thinkpad W530 Win 8 computer and at the same time upgrading from PSE6 to PSE11.  In the process, I had to move all my pictures (1000s upon 1000s of them) to a different drive letter and main folder location than I was using on my old computer, although I kept the same subfolder structure.  This led to all the pictures being reported as missing in PSE11.  The reconnection function in PSE11 is not very good (IMO) at handling a situation like this.  The way it works, it would take forever and a day for it to search and reconnect all those picture files.  I think there was a third-party tool that worked on previous versions of PSE that would let you make mass changes to the file locations, but it doesn't work on the later versions of PSE.
Anyway, I started doing some manual reconnecting and came across a weird situation where a few files wouldn't reconnect saying the file already existed in the catalog which didnt make sense.  So, I thought maybe an optimize/repair might fix the glitch.  This then led me to the Connection Manager problem.  I don't know, maybe all the unconnected files might be causing CM not to recognize the catalog which wouldn't make sense (to me).
Since this situation of having files change location is likely to arise again, I had started investigating perhaps putting together some sort custom reconnect function using a sqlite db tool as you mentioned.  I was just hoping to get the files reconnected for now and move on to other things.  But, things are seldom simple and straight forward anymore.
I did get My Catalog 2 back to my default at least.  I manually deleted the TestCatalog folder and when I launched Organizer, it prompted for a new catalog via CM.  But, CM of couse didn't list My Catalog 2.  So, I manually launched the catalog.pse11db file via file explorer and Organizer then made it my default catalog again.
