Catalyst driver, no GLX

Hello, I installed catalyst-utils and catalyst packages, configured Xorg and the driver works but there is no GL.
This is what I get when I try to run glxinfo:
name of display: :0.0
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 131 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
Serial number of failed request: 19
Current serial number in output stream: 19
This is my xorg.conf:
http://pastebin.com/m73a7a459

Did you apply the patch mentioned the PKGBUILD?. There is a separate thread for the catalyst that will give you more idea.
You need reconfiguring your xorg.conf with aticonfig. Why are you loading  "Driver      "radeonhd"" if you are using proprietary driver?. Once you got a fresh xorg.conf reboot your pc.

  • Catalyst driver problem: Low resolution

    Hey
    I just installed the catalyst driver for my Mobility Radeon HD 3650, I'd been using the radeonhd driver before. With the radeonhd driver, i could use 1680x1050 which is the maximal resolution for my monitor but with catalyst, the highest I can use is 1280x800. My login screen has good resolution, but once im logged in it drops back to 1280x800. Anyone know what I could try? I searched the forums but couldn't really find anything.
    I'm running arch i868 on a Thinkpad T500.
    Thanks

  • System freeze when using catalyst driver and xorg 1.16

    As the title says, my computer freezes up when using the catalyst drivers.  This happens even when I haven't run startx (happens even when I ssh).  Typically I would check my syslog after a crash, right?  However, I don't see a syslog in /var/log.  How would I go about troubleshooting this?
    EDIT:
    Okay I discovered journalctl  .  I ran journalctl --since=today and the point in time at which my computer froze and had to be rebooted was blank.  Here is the relevant part of the log...
    Feb 26 21:56:47 kodi systemd[554]: Starting Default.
    Feb 26 21:56:47 kodi systemd[554]: Reached target Default.
    Feb 26 21:56:47 kodi systemd[554]: Startup finished in 11ms.
    -- Reboot --
    Feb 26 22:04:36 kodi systemd-journal[141]: Runtime journal is using 8.0M (max allowed 84.6M, trying to leave 127.0M free of 838.9M available → current limit 8
    Feb 26 22:04:36 kodi systemd-journal[141]: Permanent journal is using 64.0M (max allowed 2.7G, trying to leave 4.0G free of 22.3G available → current limit 2.
    Feb 26 22:04:36 kodi systemd-journal[141]: Time spent on flushing to /var is 1.152ms for 2 entries.
    My computer froze at about 22:03.  That portion is missing from the log so I have no way of knowing what caused the freeze.
    EDIT2:
    I should also mention that I recently upgraded so I'm running kernel 3.18.6-1-ARCH.  Will the catalyst drivers work with this kernel?  I did not have a problem with the old kernel, which I think was 3.16

    First of all - I'm AMD APU user but I've not used Catalyst for a long time, then please be carefull with my opinion. When we can read on Release note, the latest Catalyst driver works with:
    - Xorg/Xserver 7.4 and above (up to 1.16)
    - Linux kernel 2.6 or above (up to 3.17)
    - glibc version 2.2 or 2.3
    - POSIX Shared Memory (/dev/shm) support is required for 3D applications
    see: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-article … Notes.aspx but on AUR we can read, that this driver is for linux < 3.19 (then kernel 3.18 is supported). This is possible because lano1106_fglrx-13.8_proc.patch but, of course, it's not official, upstream patch. From the other hand, I know that Ubuntu's users has seriously problem with Catalyst on Xorg 1.16.

    But how do you install the drivers if Bootcamp is running interference?
    Bottom line, I'ev tried to install three different versions of updated ATI driver sover the last few momnths and on each and every occassion have ended up with the original Bootcamp driver. A number of current games are unplayable on a Mac running Bootcamp as a result.
    And if I can't run the software I want, then Bootcamp is as useless as boobs on a bull.

  • Can I download the ATI Catalyst driver or something for my new iMac?

    I've got Windows Vista 32 bit and I would like to have the Catalyst control center stuff so I can control the graphics.
    Where can I get this stuff? Can I just download the latest Radeon 4800 series catalyst/driver/software from ATI?
    thanks

    I need to rephrase my question:
    This is the software I need: ATI Catalyst Control Center http://ati.amd.com/products/catalystcontrolcenter/index.html
    It's not the display driver I need, but the control center for an ATI product. I need more specific control, which the Catalyst Control Center would give me.
    Apple's cd only has the display driver and not this control center.
    I downloaded the full suite here: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/common-vista32
    When this installs no control center shows up. Any idea, anyone?

  • Gnome 3 striped panel using Catalyst driver

    I'm currently using the properietary ati catalyst driver by necessity, not choice.  The open source driver does not have good power management and in particular will not control the fan properly.  This is a well known bug and has been acknowledged on this and other forums often.  Honestly, the only reason I can think of for anybody using the open source ati driver is if they 1) have an old gpu 2) are using a desktop pc and don't notice the sound 3) notice the sound and heat but know no better.  After installing gnome 3, the panel ends up looking like this:
    which isn't even my screenshot.  This was posted on a stackexhange forum and the solution provided was to simply use the open source drivers.
    I'm hoping that someone here has found the correct solution, although I'm not even sure if one exists yet.  It's just incredibly strange that gnome 3 would have this sort of problem when no other panel I know of, including Unity, does.

    I have seen enough of this. Conclusion is, if you have to use Catalyst (properietary), forget about GNOME Shell for a while. Not only that top panel, but also there exists several corruptions here and there with Mutter(?) + Catalyst. Use the fallback mode if you can't get any further, or better use Compiz+Cairo-Dock to completely replace the GNOME window manager in GNOME/GTK3.
    Even if you can get the shell working, it's not worth using it at this stage. Check later.

  • ATI Catalyst driver- Not building-

    Sorry I have been trying to install the Catalyst driver for 4hr's now and getting noware.
    If I try it with yaourt the Catalyst package installs the "libgl" so the Catalyst-ustils will no work. So, If i try it from the Tar files the "utils" first it asks for xorg-server. If I install xorg-server it instals "libgl". If I try to install the "catalyst Tar it telles me I need to install "catalyst-utils" first.
    What path do I take to find the easter egg?
    I have a new elitebook 8530w with Mobility FireGL 5700

    I think that can be called the fact that catalyst doesn't support Linux at all, it just supports three or four outdated distributions, Red Hat, Suse, Ubuntu. And I think that is about it. Why bother with something that will hold back progress, 9.5 came out, no support for kernel 2.6.29 yet and we are about to get 2.6.30 soon.
    Ya, I realy think AMD treats OpenSource like wincrap dose. Like some second horse to dup work they don't feel like doing and to deliberitly make crappy so they can be like "see windoz is better if you want GOOD software you have to pay but we will give you this crap to show how nice we are"
    But on the other hand "my hand" why take it out on the people that just didn't know or just needed to save money. If I had the choice to get the an Intel card I would have. I just don't think arch dev's should take it out on the users.
    But with that said the AUR package works just fine.
    However, now that I have it not crashing I have more problems. I think it would be an easy fix for someone who knows a little bit about this stuff. here is a link to the thread I started for it>>>

  • Catalyst driver & aur question

    Hi there!
    First I must say i'm totaly new in arch world. I have ATI Radeon HD3430 graphics card and want to install catalyst driver (moved from official repos to aur) but have had no luck so far. I red wiki but i just cant figure out how to install that. Can i get some help about it? Tnx in advance!
    Edit: For now i have open source ati driver installed.

    Cracker wrote:OK, but do i need to do some extra configuration, or this is it? Do i have to uninstall my old ati driver (the open source one)?
    Yes, you will have to remove xf86-video-ati and also probably libgl, and possibly other packages that conflict with the catalyst driver and catalyst-utils packages.  I'm not sure if there's a more elegent way to do this, but I recently switched from the Catalyst driver to the ATI driver and I did:
    pacman -Rsc catalyst catalyst-utils
    which uninstalled something like 10gigs worth of programs, did
    pacman -S xorg xf86-video-ati
    then reinstalled all my other old programs, just don't clean you're pacman cache before re-installing or you'll be downloading stuff forever.

  • Catalyst driver

    How can I install catalyst driver? I have read the arch wiki but I get dependency conflicts. Also, when I tried to install catalyst drivers first, then xorg, I think xorg has overwritten them and they could no longer be installed. I dont mind using xf86-video-ati driver, but it looks like it does not have hardware acceleration. Enemy Territory was terribly lagging and even World of Warcraft in Wine was running better. (5-10 fps though). So is there any way forcing HW acceleration on xf86 driver?

    Hmm ... it is not that bad with default drivers in Arch. How do I enable hardware acceleration? Some games are running 75 fps (Vsync enabled ) but I cant have hardware acceleration on youtube videos (a bit of lag in full screen) and when I started ubuntu in virtualbox I could only see the simple text boot screen. So do I really need proprietary ati driver or can I enable the hardware acceleration with xf86-video-ati driver?

  • Desktop Environment Broke after Catalyst Driver Install

    Hello everyone,
    I recently installed the catalyst drivers on my system using pacman.  I have multiple desktop environments installed.
    When I rebooted after the install, I get access to my GUI welcome screen, which allows me to select the DE environments.  I have several including Gnome and Gnome 2D.
    When I try to load Gnome it says "Failed to load session "gnome"", the 2D version attempts to load and gives an "oh no! Something broke" error.
    I assume this is due to changes in my xorg after installing the catalyst driver? I know this is a DE not direct arch question, please let me know!  I am desperate.

    The problem seems to be that there is an nvlink driver coming from somewhere. You can try removing the opencl-nvidia package if it is not required by anything.
    Another possibility, as mentioned in the wiki, is that you did not comment out DRI entries in the xconfig.
    I'm not quite sure what these DRI entries look like. What would be commented out? This is my xorg.conf:

  • Fix for video tearing ATI Radeon HD 4200 using Catalyst Driver??

    Hey guys, as the title asks, is there a fix for pretty serious video tearing that I am experiencing on my ATI Radeon HD 4200 video card? I'm using the proprietary driver (catalyst, built from AUR) and would prefer to use that one or, if need be, radeonhd driver as I need HDMI sound output.

  • [SOLVED] ATI Catalyst Driver Issues

    I'm sure issues with these drivers get posted often, but I'm honestly not entirely sure how to search for this.  I installed the base system with no issues, but when it came to adding a DE, I had some issues.  I tried several times to install the catalyst drivers for my radeon hd 6800.  I installed from the official repository using:
    #pacman -S catalyst-dkms catalyst-utils
    I had no luck starting X server after that so I tried installing from Vi0l0's unnoficial repository.  This caused X Server to seg fault every time I attempted to start it.
    I'm a little confused on how I am even using gnome at this point considering I have not successfully installed a graphics driver.
    I blacklisted radeon and uninstalled catalyst and somehow was able to start X Server.  I'm obviously using a lame driver considering every time I move a console window around it moves at around 2 FPS.
    How can I successfully install the proprietary fglrx/catalyst drivers?

    Thanks for the replies.  It's been a busy week and I have to move my desktop into the kitchen to get internet access because I'm also having ndiswrapper issues.  Here is my Xorg.0.log

    Hi @Ahmed-Aslam
    I understand that you are have problems with hibernate and sleep on your notebook.
    I would review the attached document. I realize from your post that you have tried some of the things listed, but just check it and see if anything there was missed, perhaps the section on malware issues.
    Troubleshooting sleep and hibernate issues in Windows 8
    You can also try using system restore to roll back to before the software update to see if that resolves the issue.

  • Catalyst driver install issue

    Hey!
    I have an ATI Mobility radeon HD 5650 and i needed to run openCL on it, so i wanted to install catalyst-utils and the opencl-catalyst, however, i first installed the xf86-video-ati driver, so i tried installed using
    pacman -S catalyst-utils
    And i got the following output:
    [root@guimtr-arch ~]# pacman -S catalyst-utils
    resolving dependencies...
    looking for inter-conflicts...
    :: catalyst-utils and mesa-libgl are in conflict. Remove mesa-libgl? [y/N] y
    :: catalyst-utils and xorg-server are in conflict. Remove xorg-server? [y/N] y
    error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: catalyst-utils: requires xorg-server
    :: ati-dri: requires mesa-libgl=9.1.1
    :: gdm: requires xorg-server
    :: glamor-egl: requires mesa-libgl
    :: intel-dri: requires mesa-libgl=9.1.1
    :: nouveau-dri: requires mesa-libgl=9.1.1
    So the problem is that catalyst-utils conflicts with xorg-server, but then if say yes i want to remove, it says it needs it for catalyst-utils
    Thanks in advance

  • Proprietary Catalyst Driver Dell Inspiron 7520

    Hello, Archies! I'm new to Arch Linux!
    Well, I'm trying to make works Catalyst Proprietary Driver (catalyst-total-pxp), but it's crashing when I switch to AMD. Intel is working well, without problem. The xorg-server crashes and I need to reboot with CTRL+ALT+DEL or force shutdown sometimes.
    I'm using xorg-server 1.13 and this https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/catalyst-total-pxp/ package.
    * Kernel 3.7 (linux-ck-ivybridge package)
    Anyone manged how to make AMD works with Dell 7520?
    Thanks!
