Catalyst driver problem: Low resolution

Hey
I just installed the catalyst driver for my Mobility Radeon HD 3650, I'd been using the radeonhd driver before. With the radeonhd driver, i could use 1680x1050 which is the maximal resolution for my monitor but with catalyst, the highest I can use is 1280x800. My login screen has good resolution, but once im logged in it drops back to 1280x800. Anyone know what I could try? I searched the forums but couldn't really find anything.
I'm running arch i868 on a Thinkpad T500.

    A few days ago I noticed that safari icon was in "low resolution", so then I deleted and put a new one in place, but after tahat I've been notice that otheres are doing the same, on my macbook pro (running snow leopard) the things are worse, sometimes even the shortcuts to applications and downloads show with the same problem. Could this be a virus???

  • Having Problems with Low Resolution on Thinkpad Twist

    I notice lately that images do not appear as sharp or as deeply colored as they once were.  Text looks fine but even looking at high-res images, it's like I'm looking at them with a CGA monitor - I don't see the same color depth and the image appears lower resolution than it actually is.  The same pictures look sharp on another computer/monitor.  Could this be a display setting?  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the display driver to no avail.
    I also notice that when I go from screen to screen, sometimes I get a "ghost" of the previous image.  This is not monitor burn-in because the ghosted image goes away when I reboot.

    Here is a screenshot.
    In Macbook pro with retina display, app icon often have a low resolution in Launchpad screen.
    If the app install again after restarting the mac, the app icon in launchpad screen has normal resolution.

    Had this problem from time to time, at random, with Lion. After Mountain Lion it is a lot worse... many icons, non only personalized but also system icons, look blurry and pixelated...
    I have done EVERYTHING I read on the many threads about this issue here at apple, as well as on other sites, but nothing helped... (removed thumbnails.data, delete caches, deleter .DS_store files, finder preferences, etc. etc. etc.).
    This happens on both my macs, an iMac 2011 and a MacBookPro 2010...
    How is it possible to have this BUG since the last 3 version of the OS, with Apple not solving the problem but rather getting worse?

  • T60 display problem - boot in low resolution pink/blue shade

    I have a T60 2623D7U that has a screen resolution of 1400x1050. The problem I am having is that when I start the laptop it starts up with a really low resolution, probably 640x480, and the colour of the screen sometimes has a pink or blue shade. Sometimes it flickers with white horizontal lines. When Windows XP is loaded, I cannot change the screen resolution and even though it shows that it is 1024x768, it is probably still showing at 640x480.  Every once in a while it will actually start up with the correct screen resolution and everything works perfectly, but this only happens very rarely. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Thanks Mario, but I tried everything there before posting my question. I may not have been clear in my question since I accidently recorded the whole question as the title and tried to edit. In brief: I have no trouble connecting with my daughter's iPad or my son's iPhone. However, his iPad is sending much higher resolution pictures and we disconnect after about a minute.  Oddly, he can hear and see me while my screen first freezes, then goes black and gives me a message of "reconnecting" until it quits trying and shows the buttons to end or redial. The picture quality difference is what is leading me to believe it is bandwidth related. However, I get anywhere from 5 to 10 MB download speeds; usually closer to 10. Last summer, I had 4 granddaughters on their iPads, a grandson on his gaming device and me on cell phone or pc, all using the bandwidth at once with no complaints. If there is a way to lower his outgoing resolution, I think that would help.

  • Scary problem! Old photos suddenly dark, low resolution.

    Going through some old pictures I've just noticed that 3-4 sets from 4 years ago have become very dark and lower resolution.
    The weirdest part is that they are not complete "sets" -- that is, the darkness seems to in random groups of certain sets (i.e., the first 3-4 are okay, followed by 20 dark/low rez images, followed by 2-3 'normal' images).
    I tried zapping the PRAM, as I read that resolved a similar issue. And I repaired permissions.
    No dice.
    Any thoughts? What I'm afraid of is this happening to all my photos.
    Note that I upgraded from a 12" G4 to an iMac two years ago, and imported all those photos. I also upgraded to 10.6 about 8 months ago.
    But I just noticed this now -- not sure when it happened.

    Now im trying to play games like, Splinter Cell Convictions and things of that sort, apparently, according to the Games website, i meet all the recommended specs. Yet when i play the game its on a very low resolution and all settings set to LOW!
    Is anyone else having these problems with there Notebooks?

    Sine few days I have Satellite P500 too. I have to say its a very great notebook, I love it. The screen is really good and big and in my opinion the best option for games, videos and all other multimedia stuff. Furthermore its equipped with fast CPU and graphic card, ideal for playing games.
    All my games running fine so I dont know what happened to you. Make sure that the eco mode isnt active, this will slow down the performance.
    Make also sure that newest display driver from Toshiba is installed and latest DirectX version from Microsoft.
    Have also a look Splinter Cell homepage. Maybe there is an update (patch) available that can help you. :)

  • AT-MIO-16E-10 Read encoders problem (a possible driver problem ?)

    Hi there! I have AT-MIO-16E-10 board and i have a problem with reading the "values" from an incremental encoder.Here it's the description of the problem : I have the encoder conected via a mechanism formed by a belt and a pulley (the pulley it is connected directly to the encoder shaft) and this mechanism it is moved by a dc motor which it's also conected to the belt by an identical pulley mounted on the dc motor shaft.The motor drives a cart (by this mechanism formed by pulley-belt) on a track which has 1200 mm length.Now here comes the problem : The resolution of the encoder i use to measure the position it's 10000 ppr. The diameter of the puley it's 30.56 mm. Now the pulses given by the encoder during the full track (the total counts measured within the total length of the track i.e 1200mm) are measured with an universal counter (a hardware device) and with an aplication program (which it is attached bellow).The number of pulses for the total lenght of the track it's around 125000 (plus minus maxium 10 pulses) for the universal counter device (the hardware device) and around 128000 for the aplication program (plus minus 100 pulses).Now if we do a simple mathematical calculation we shall observe the following : if the puley has the diameter of 30.56 mm that gives us a linear length (the length of the circle) of PI*diameter i.e around 96.00424 mm (3.1415*30.56).If the total length of the track it's 1200mm that means the puley makes 1200/96.00424 rotations i.e. around 12.499 rotations and if the encoder give us 10000 ppr that means 124990 pulses for the total length of the track (for 1200mm) which it's extremely closed to the value of 125000 pulses provided by the universal counter (the hardware device) and quite far from 128000 pulses provided by the aplications program attached bellow.If we supose that the corect number of pulses it's 128000 that means the pulley should turn 12.8 times comparing with 12.5 times on the total length of the track which it's not true! (i could see with my own eyes that the pulley rotates under 12.5 rotations during the total length of the track). So after my opinion there is something wrong with the software (the program it is downloaded from zone.ni.com).I'm using AT-MIO-16E-10 hardware device,with LV6.1 (and real-time version),NI-DAQ 6.9.3 driver on XP1600+ processor,with Windows XP operating system.If any of NI aplication engineers see this please reply as quick as possible.Thank you very much for reading this and i'll be waiting for your answers as quick as possible.Best regards,Michael.

    IF the signal from the encoder is correct (proper voltages High and Low, and noise free), THEN the count will be correct.
    This is gauranteed.
    You probably have a noise problem ( I speak from experience). The counter is expecting TTL logic. In my experience, if the low of the encoder signal has noise exceeding 0.8V, the counter will falsely count the noise.
    The simplest solution could be to trigger on the falling edges of the encoder signal. There is more "headroom" coming dow
    n with TTL. If your high signal is running 5V, the undefined range starts at 2.4V (which is pretty much when the counter will start counting). This gives you the ability to reject 2.6V of noise. On the rising edge, you may have a 0.3V low and only 0.5V of noise rejection.
    The other option is to clean up the noise. Get an osilloscope and start looking. Fix any bad grounding and wiring practices. Turn off any noisy equipment. There are ways to buffer the counter input so that the encoder signal is a differential signal. Optocouplers and schmitt triggers can clean up the encoder signals. Sometimes the encoder needs to drive some current to be less noisy. A fast Line Receiver can clean up rounded off encoder pulses (see US Digital - $16).

  • Images dragged out of trash have low resolution

    Some Aperture images ended up in system, not Aperture, trash. Found them there and dragged them out only to find they have very low resolution now. Can't find a way to restore their original resolution. The "Masters" seem to have the same low resolution. For reference, the originals were over 24 mbs and the ones out of the trash were reduced to around 500 kbs.

    Whoops on the "solved" issue. My thinking was that the answer was that I deleted incorrectly, thus solving the mystery. Recovering the info via backup was then something else...if that makes sense. I hope nobody is turned off by the "Solved" notation. I know I look at those especially because they are solved whereas many other discussions just sort of fade away without a definite conclusion.
    To answer your questions:
    1. I used the delete commands, like "delete version", "delete masters and all versions".
    2. OS 10.6.8
    3. The library is on the computer's HD, but I have Time Machine and another external drive for the Vault feature.
    4. I have 5100 images, cannot locate where the actual size is and in any case would not know the "before" size to compare it with to see if the Masters went away or just hid.
    5. I have all the files I dragged out, haven't emptied the trash or deleted anything since I had this problem.
    6. The folders have various names I gave them or which were generated by the program, I guess, and none of them are labelled "masters". I have searched thru all folders and projects, and thru the photos and have not found the masters in question. I never generated a seperate "Masters" folder. Sounds like a good idea though.
    7. I originally migrated over from iPhoto, a messy process for me, but that was long ago. Since then I have only imported via cameras and never had a problem with that. The images in question, the 24mb ones, are from the newly supported raw files from a Sony Nex-7 and no problems with those images in general. Just a handful of them got lost. Most are just fine, so there is no pattern there.
    At some point, perhaps when Ap4 comes out, I would like to find a way to start completely over!
    I'll do the backup restoration thing when you advise me to go ahead, and again would appreciate any advice on the best way to do that. Never did it before. Thanks again, Carl

  • Preventing importing of low resolution images?

    I'm in process of moving a bucketload of images into a Lightroom library from various sources in the drives of the Macs at gome, and am having problem with Lightroom importing a bunch of low resolution images into the library. These files include various web exports and iPhoto library thumbnails etc. Now, this wouldn't be a problem, except:
    1) I have no control over the "Don't import suspected duplicates" feature, so I don't know of Lightroom is importing a thumbnail version of a shot (with EXIF) or the original. I suspect is importing both, but can't be sure, and the import report is just too tedious to go through, as the total size of the import includes over 100k exposures.
    2) Lightroom doesn't have a feature that'd let me search for scaled down images. I can't search by resolution, and the scaling flag search doesn't pick up images scaled outside Lightroom. I could throw away some shots with no EXIF data but exports with EXIF information retained cannot be thrown away from the lib.
    Anyone here have ideas on how to solve this? A solution that causes Lightroom to ignore files that aren't of the size that's the same as a the camera original, or one that lets me search for resized images from a library would both suffice.

    Heh, I guess you missed a detail in my post. I'm importing more than 100.000 exposures contained in a few thousands of folders. The total size of the library that's been imported right now is about 650 GB. If I can't automate this, I can't do it.
    I shuffled through the Lightroom plugin API doc and seems I can't create a plugin that'd automate this either, as there's no call to initialize the value from the plugin itself - had an idea to provide a searchable width/height metadata plugin myself but apparently that's a no go.
