CC refusing to install software in custom directory

Hi
I just downloaded the Creative Cloud program to testdrive Adobe Premiere Pro but can't for the life of me get it to install Premiere or any other software for that matter in the directory I want(My D: drive). The reason I want to install it on my D: drive is because My C: drive is only a 40GB SSD with barely any space left and this is really the only option for me. Is there any way to fix this? I consider myself quite computer savvy, but this one has got me beat because even though I've set the directory in preferences, it still downloads to C:
Any help would be much appreciated.

That's currently not an option as I am a student and as I quite enjoy my SSD having had no problems installing software where I wanted to install it until now. Is there really NO way to install it on a drive of my chosing? This is 2014 after all, not 1995...

  • A custom task sequence to install software is always listed as Operating System on Software Center

    Hello,
I have built several custom task sequences to install software in SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 environment, but the type of task sequence is always listed as Operating System on the Software Center. I tried creating a simple task sequence (Task Sequence 1) that contains
a single restart computer step only and tried deploying it to a test machine. This task sequence is also listed as Operating System. This task sequence fails because this is not the one for OS install and I do not specify a boot image for this task sequence.
All task sequences that I have created in SCCM 2012 RTM environment are working as expected. All task sequences that I create in SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 are listed as Operating System regardless of its actual type (I upgraded my environment from CM2012 RTM to CM2012
    R2 CU1 last month).
Here is a test task sequence that contains a single step of restart computer. This is not Operating System install but listed as Operating System. Any thoughts?

If you use OSD steps in your task sequence you will get this prompt.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/3eb7569c-0b5a-4b40-86c3-d4f092c70aca/task-sequence-warning?forum=configmanagerosd
    Per Mikko:
Using any of following steps (and possibly others as well, I did not check all of them) will change the task sequence type from generic to OSD:
General - Join Domain or Workgroup
General - Restart Computer (Only "The boot image assigned to this task sequence" option)
Disks - Format and Partition Disk
User State - Request State Store
User State - Release State Store
Images - Apply Operating System Image
Images - Setup Windows and ConfigMgr

  • Nokia Update Software just refuse to install

    Hi there,
I would like to update my 6288 firmware but can't since the phone doesn't seem to have the first updating option, aka OTA option.
There is the second option : Menu ---> Settings ---> Phones ---> Phones Update ---> Install Software Update.
But I can't do that since I don't have the last firmware and can't find it anywhere on Nokia website.
So I tryed the third option. The Nokia Update Software option but guess what ? It's NSU who don't install because of some error. I've these error codes :
    1) Install Shield Error 1603.
    2) And then this second error :
I would appreciate if someone was ready to help to use one of these 3 option.
    1) OTA Update
    2) Direct Update from the phone menu ( the best one I guess )
    3) Helping me to install properly NSU in order to finally doing the firmware update.
    Regards.
P.S : Club Nokia smartly told me to uninstall NSU and to reinstall it. I had already tryed this solution before emailing them.Message Edited by antares on 14-May-200710:35 PM

Were you trying to upgrade PC Suite to 6.83 rel_14.1 from a previous version?
If you've not used Nokia Software Updater before is Windows NET 2.0 or 3.0 FRAMEWORK installed? If you've loaded every Windows Update it is probably there, but is not a critical update and not on Xp install CD.
I wonder whether remnants of previous version remain and perhaps you need to use Windows Installer Cleanup Utility - msicuu2.exe as mentioned in above article
If you try to uninstall PC Suite 6.83 rel_14.1 you can remove core application but cable driver portion remains; these programs are "Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver" and "PC Connectivity Solutions"

  • Ovi Suite custom directory installation - is it po...

Is it possible to install Ovi Suite to custom directory? I have few partitions, and i want to install Ovi to other partition than C:\.
I found one topic about same problem, but found not valuable solution (running ovi installer form cmd with target directory didn't helped one of nokia help board users, so i decided not to try).
    Using Windows 7 Ultimate.
    Thanks

It may be worth trying another clean install including removing all Nokia/Ovi software from the computer, including any drivers thet maention Nokia or Ovi, then run Nokia PC Cleaner.
Then try the latest version of Ovi suite from Beta Labs

  • HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4625e Refuses to Install

My printer is an HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4625e (4620 series). Firmware Version: CAP1FN1451AR
First, this is what I can do with the printer:
Print internal ‘Test’ pages and reports.
Print documents in all applications from a wireless, networked laptop.
    Print documents using ePrint.
My computer is an HP Omni All-in-one Running Windows 7 Home Premium X64
The issue is I am unable to (re)install the printer on the HP Omni using either ‘Add Printer’, HP downloads or the installation disk.
    Hoping for a definitive solution.
Background: Just over a week ago I upgraded from Office Pro 2010 to Office Pro 2013. When I went to print I noticed the dfautl print was showing as One Note 2013. I selected the HP printer then hit print. I got an error message: Word Cannot Print this Document. There is no printer installed.
I tried to print using NotePad and an Adobe document (thinking it may have been Word related only). This did not work. I could print from any application using the Desktop. But, as noted, I can do so from the networked laptop.
On opening the Printers folder OneNote was set as the default. I changed the default to the HP printer. No luck. I was told it was not installed.
I ran Malwarebytes Premium and Microsoft Security Essentials to check for possible incursions. None.
I then tried System Restore. No change.
I then tried to repair the print program. No change.
I then uninstalled Office 2013. No Change.
I then tried the “Add Printer” function. No Luck. I was informed: “Unable to install printer. Some files are missing or incorrect. Reinstall the driver or try using the latest version.” (Screenshot 1)
I then tried to reinstall the printer. First as a straight reinstall then second after doing a complete uninstall using Revo Professional Uninstaller and an Advanced Scan.
This did not work, yet the printer is recognised as being on the wireless network during the reinstall process (Screenshot 2).
This is what I Cannot do: (Note: during any install attempt I disable both Malware Byes and Windows Security Essentials. I have also attempted installs with the Firewall turned OFF.)
Cannot reinstall on the system. It refuses to allow a wireless network installation even though it shows on the install screen (Screenshot 2).
If using ‘Add Printer, it says files missing or incorrect (Screenshot 1).
If installed using HP Download, I am able to input IP Address but it does not show the copmupter name. It says either. “Computer’s Network Name: Retrieving’ OR ‘Computer’s Network Name: Unable to Retrieve’ (Screenshot 3 & Screenshot 4 respectively).
When install fails, I get the screen asking to search for a solution (Screenshot 5) which then gives me instructions re a download ‘Helper Application’ (Screenshot 6).
After attempting to follow those instructions, the downloaded ‘solution’ does not work (Screenshot 7).
Instead of trying to install over the wireless network I have tried using the USB Install process. The printer then only installs as a ‘Fax’ Printer. On checking the Device Mager – Show Hidden Devices – it shows a ‘Multifunction Device’ with a yellow exclamation mark (!) next to the driver. On checking, it says I need to reinstall the driver.
Any attempt to convert the USB connection (even though it only installs as a fax printer) to a wireless connection fails.

    Hi @jindo53,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!

Tips to avoid wireless connection issues
The following tips can help prevent wireless connection issues. You might need to experiment with each of these tips to secure a successful wireless connection.
Move the product, the computer, and the access point (router) closer together.
Remove any metal objects that are between the product, the computer, and the access point (router). Objects such as refrigerators or metal bookcases can interfere with a wireless transmission.
Move any device that emits radio signals farther away from the HP product. Devices such as microwaves and cordless telephones can interfere with wireless transmission.
Accept or allow any firewall pop-up messages that display during the software installation.
If you connect to a virtual private network (VPN), temporarily disconnect from the VPN during the HP software installation (see your VPN software for further details).
If you have MAC address filtering enabled on your router, you will need to add the HP product's MAC address to the address filter list. You can find the MAC address on the Network Configuration Page. Follow instructions for your router to add the address.
If that does not help, please try the following:
Uninstall the software. Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Clean boot the computer. How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Disable any Antivirus programs. Disable Antivirus software.
Disable any firewall programs. Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
Create a new user account. Managing User Accounts and Logins (Windows 7).
Reinstall using the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
If still unsuccessful, proceed to back up your files, and reinstall Windows 7.

  • How do I install software (specifically Office for Mac) on a MacBook Air?

How do I install software (specifically Office for Mac) on my MacBook Air?  Thanks.

    Q7: How do I activate?
A7: To activate the product, follow these steps:
    1. Launch application and click Enter your product key.
    2. Review the Software License Agreement and click Continue.
    3. You must agree to Software License Agreement. Click Continue.
    4. Enter your product key and click Activate. The Activation Wizard automatically contacts the Microsoft licensing servers through your Internet connection. When you activate the product by using the Internet, the product key is sent to Microsoft through an encrypted transfer. If you decide to activate the product through the Internet and you are not already connected, the wizard alerts you that there is no connection. Click either Activate by Phone or Activate later.  Note Do not lose the product key. Keep the packaging, or note the number. Keep the number information in a safe location.  Your product key is a unique sequence of 25 letters and numbers divided into groups of 5.  If you purchased a box with a DVD: The product is located on the back of the Office for Mac DVD sleeve.  If you purchase through a web site: The product key is sent to you in email with the title Microsoft Office for Mac – Order Confirmation”
    5. If the activation is successful, you receive the following message:
Your copy of <product title> is now activated.
If for any reason the Activation fails, click Activate by phone. Select your location and then dial the phone number on the screen. For example, for United States: 1866-825-4797 or United Kingdom: (44)-(203)-147-4930. You can telephone an Activation Center to obtain the help of a customer service representative and activate the product. Telephone activation might take longer than activation through the Internet. You should be at the computer when you call. Additionally, you should have your software product key. When you select this option, the Activation Wizard generates an Installation ID. You musy have this Installation ID to activate the product by telephone.
Important When you telephone the Activation Center, you are prompted to read the Installation ID numbers.
Note Activation Center numbers are not listed for all locations in this article because telephone contact numbers vary by license and also by country or region. The Activation Wizard gives you the number to telephone the Activation Center.

  • Allow local user to install software but deny logon

So my requirement is that regular users are not allowed to install software on a computer, but if they want to install they could if an admin would come and enter admin username and pw on popup after they try to install something. Also 2nd requirement is
that admin user is not allowed to logon locally. So i figured i'll create local admin and deny him logon locally but then when try to install software it tells me that i don't have required logon right to do this action. Is there a way i could achieve this?
    Thank you!

You first requirement can be satisfied by configuring UAC.
you second requirement can be set in security options. I would NOT recommend denyiong logon to the group administrators. instead you should create a custom (AD) group to contain your administrators. make it member of the local administrator group(s) (posibly
using 'restricted groups' GPO) and deny log on as you like through user right assignment (also possible by GPO)

  • Big Brother??  Companies installing software into your computer from afar??

I was on the phone today with a video camera company (tech support likely outsourced to overseas). I was having trouble with their videos displaying on my computer.
They asked me for my permission to install software on my computer!!
How is it possible for them to do that from elsewhere?
They are a big name, legit company... but if they can do it with my permission, who can do it without it?
    Appreciate any insights on this.
    I, of course, refused.

You'd have to open the gate for them to install it first off.
That's why you have settings in Apple menu -> System preferences -> Sharing -> Firewall.
As for trouble displaying videos, many companies like to rely on Windows Media videos which can be viewed if you add http://www.flip4mac.com/
Nobody can install software without your permission unless you deliberately open the gate for them to do it.

  • Allowing other users to install software

I've just made the leap of faith to Mac. A very nice OS and I'm very impressed. I've used and loved Linux for years and curse the Evil Empire everyday because my work laptop is IBM. (provided by the company)
I have created an admin account for myself and user accounts for my 2 kids. I did not grant them admin permissions. What I would like to do is allow them to install software/applications into their home directory rather than the Applications directory. From what I've seen so far, each time they attempt to install an application they get prompted for the admin password. This seems correct if they were to install into the Applications directory, but what if they want to install into their home directory or another that they own?
Linux would allow me to do this so I'm wondering if OS X does as well. Any suggestions?
    Thanks....
iMac 17" duo core   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Applicatons that are self contained and come inside disk images can be drag and dropped into your home directory.
They can in most cases be launched even if your a none admin user.
Application installers that are .pkg may be installing other components into the main system library as well as the home directory so therefore need an admin password. Also when creating an installer package the developer who created it may have ticked the box 'require root' even if it is not necessary.

  • Administrative user only for install software but prevent intercative session

    Hello,
as an university, we are not allowing domain users di write anything on the C:\ drive on our Win7/64 PCs; therefore users are unable to install any software and that is what we - usually - want.
But there are some users (researchers, Teachers or labs) who sometimes need to install software in order to test it. So we created on their PCs a local user "install" as member of the local administrator Group. They should use it when
UAC prompts them to give administrative rights to install software or with the "Run as administrator" right click. This works fine but unfortunately we noticed that many users are using the "install" account to do their daily work, so they
are working the whole day long with the highest privileges and we do not want this for obvious security reasons.
We want to leave the administrative user "install" for the software installation purpose but we want prevent users using it interactively; we couldn't find a way to do this. Is it possible ?
In order to discourage users, we also made some tests giving the "install" local user, deny permission on the start menu, desktop and some other folders, so that they couldn't find programs and be very limited in using the installa account
interactively, but this does not give the expected results (for example the user is able to create a folder on the desktop after a couple of popus warnings, or the start menu is not completely empty).
    Any ideas ?
    Thank you in advance.
    Best regards,
    Eric

    Hi,
In my opinion, you can try to use AppLocker to accomplish this task. You can create a new pricple the allow specific user or group install application. Also the type of about to be installed app could be customized.
You can allocate User group app install permission to make sure they could install APP unrestricted but doesn't have administrator rights.
Please refer to the link below for more details about APP Locker:

  • HELP: Compressor 3.0.2 Update refuses to install.

I needed to install DVDSP CONTENT so I used FCPS2 Installer Disk. Unavoidably, ALL apps were re-intalled before the content loaded. So I downloaded all the app updates. All updated fine except Compressor 3.0. The 3.0.2 Update refuses to install. And, Compressor refuses to fully start-up.
    There is a Receipt PKG for Compressor 3.0, 3.0.1, 3.0.2, plus Qmaster_Frameworks.pkg 3.0 and Qmaster.pkg 3.0
Removing 3.0.2 doesn't allow either Compressor 3.0.1 or 3.0.1 to install.
    1) Any idea what's wrong and/or a simple way of fixing?
    2) Is there a way of Installing Compressor 3.0 from the Install Disk WITHOUT returning all the other apps to their original state?
< WHY on earth does the Install UPDATE versions that are obviously newer with older versions? >
    3) Will Pacifist auto-remove the current version of Compressor or do I still need to TRY to do this manually?

Interesting. Check one thing for me. Go to your Control Panels, click on Software Update, and see if "Download important updates automatically" is enabled. If not, enable it, then click the Check Now button. This will download the file to your drive, and you should see it.
If you do this, and the file still isn't there, then I'm stumped as to why it isn't downloading. Like I said, I had this same issue on both my computers, and the same solution worked both times.
Let me know how this turns out.

So my problem is installing software. I can download the packages just fine, they appear on my desktop and I can open the installer. Hi Laura,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
The directory you mentioned, /tmp/501/TemporaryItems/ exists at the top level of the directory tree, but it is Unix stuff that has been made invisible so that it does not get damaged or trashed. You can do a Finder search for the invisible "private" folder, and in that the "tmp" folder is not invisible, it is just inside an invisible folder. Once you find "private", you can open it by double-clicking its Icon in the Find display. Now you can see the 501 folder. Click on that and you see TemporaryItems.
Now you can click that folder, type Apple-i and change the permissions to yourself.
The different 501 temporary folders are here:
    /private/var/tmp/mds/
    /private/var/tmp/folders/
    /.TemporaryItems/
    /private/var/tmp/
In the Finder you could also choose "Go to folder..." and enter the path as I written above.
