Cd-Rom Issue

So I have this brand new Macbook Pro and a DVD gets stuck in the drive. I have tried all sorts of things with no luck. I have tried about 5 different commands in Terminal and I have rebooted and held the trackpad. It DOES make noise like its trying to come out but it doesn't budge. There isn't enough room for tweezers to grab it. I have run out of resources. If anyone has any ideas on how to get this out that would be wonderful. I would like to go back to using my Cd-Rom. Thanks!

I don't know exactly what you've already tried, but see whether these methods work:
Start the computer up while pressing the trackpad button. Hold the button down until the drive ejects the disc.
If that doesn't work, try this:
Restart the computer. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold CommandOption+OF. Release the four keys when you see a white screen that says "Welcome to Open Firmware." At the prompt, type *eject cd* and press Return. The drive should eject your disc, and "ok" will appear when the action is complete.
Type mac-boot and press Return to restart the computer normally.
Here's another method:
Go to Applications/Utilities and open the Terminal. In a terminal window type *drutil tray eject* and press Return. After the disc is ejected, quit the Terminal.
If any or all of these methods cause the drive to make its usual eject sound but the disc still doesn't come out, the drive has failed mechanically, and will have to be physically dismantled to recover the disc. If none of these methods causes the drive to make any sound or do anything at all, the drive isn't getting power, and the machine will have to be disassembled to find out why not and correct the problem.

  • Satellite L505D-S5983 - CD/DVD-ROM issue

    Hello.
I have a Windows 7 Home Edition laptop that will not boot from the CD-DVD-ROM drive. Under normal circumstances, I know that if the boot order is right, the computer should automatically boot from the CD. However, it instead refuses to acknowledge any bootable disks I have in there at all. I have tried from Super Fdisk bootable CD to Linux Mint 9 Live boot CD version i386. My computer seems to just skip over the CD_ROM entirely and immediately boot from the hard drive.
However, it can still read CDs and DVDs perfectly. I have no problem burning items on a CD or pulling items off. I also have no problem playing games or movies that require a CD or DVD.
    Solutions I have attempted:
Changing the boot order. Nothing changed.
    Creating new CDs. Nothing Changed.
Gently cleaning the drive. Nothing changed.
Pressing the left and right arrow keys during the POST. Though it did throw me into the screen in which I choose what I want to boot, my only option was Windows 7 in the end.
Checking the Device Manager. My drive is working perfectly according to my computer.
Changing drivers. Updating wasn't possible as I already had the latest drivers, rolling back wasn't an option because there wasn't anything to roll back to, and disabling and enabling changed nothing.
Is there anything else I can do? I'm trying not to buy a new drive, as I'm short on money. I'll do it if I have to, but if I don't have to...
Thanks for any help or advice.

  • CD/DVD-rom Issues; Won't Boot

Hi, I am having a problem booting when I remove my CD-Rom 'Slave' or try to replace it with a DVD-Rom.
Below I will give my computer specs.
I have  2 hard drives, so the Primary IDE slots hold my 2 hard drives; one a
Master and the second one is the slave to the master.
On the Seconday IDE slots, I also have 2 cd-roms,  one is the master and the
other is the slave to the master. The master is my cd/read/write cd-rom.  I
want to leave it and change the slave cd-rom to a DVD-rom (not a dvd r/w
    rom)...
I bought bestbuys dvd-rom, took out the 'slave' cd-rom and put the dvd-rom
in with the pin set for the slave.  I booted my computer and it wouldn't boot
pass the first booting page.  It wouldn't boot into windows.. What could be
    wrong?????????
I took the new dvd-rom back out and left the secondary slave empty and tried booting and it
wouldn' t boot with nothing in the secondary cd-rom bay ..  wierd to say the
least.. Like I said the secondary IDE slot is the Master of r/w cd-rom and I
never removed it or touched it, it is still there..
I then put my old cd-rom back in the secondary (slave) and waited a few
mintues and booted up my computer.. It booted with no problem.. I repeated
this whole sequence several times with the same results..  I for the life of
can't figure it out... My computer should boot with or without the second
    cd-rom (slave), shouldn't it?????  Adding a cd-rom or a dvd-rom should not keep my
computer from booting up should it?????
In my cmos, I have it set to boot-up with the hard drive as my first
boot-up, the second is the cd-rom.. but I don't see how removing or replacing
the 'slave' cd-rom would prevent it from booting into windows..
Yes, I have check the cables, settings and everything in my whole computer.
Can someone please tell me what is causing this.. I need a dvd-rom drive.
not paticularly the brand of the dvd-rom I just bought (which I have already
took back anyway) but I do need to get a dvd-rom asap in my computer so I am
hoping someone might know a solution to this problem..
    Thanx for any help,

With the one drive alone did you remove the jumper?
Sometimes drives are picky and fight over who is master/slave. Try switching them.

  • Issue about 10.1 Sync with google contacts

    here's the situation:
i bought my Q10 came with OS238, when i set google account up with IMAP, all the email, calendar, and contacts would sync ONCE, which means i got all my contacts from google on my Q10. however, when i add or modify any contact on google, it would never sync again to push to my Q10, vice versa. it only syncs ONCE.
I though it would be an ROM issue, then i upgrade Q10 to OS273, and restore it from the OS238 backup, ah wow, exactly same with OS238, it syncs ONCE, and nothing to happen any more no matter you do any changes or adding, it just nothing to happen, seems it is dead out of google.
Notice: all the setting is following the tips and correct.
    but here's the interesting thing:
    1. here's the good thing: all my google mails' push is normal, i could receive them quickly, that's called "real push!"
    2. and this is worse: my google calendar will not push, but however i could refresh them in calendar app manually, well, we call it "fetch."
    3. worst!!! you just cannot get any google contacts update from anywhere, the phone just sync ONCE then you don't ever dream to sync again! what we call this? bull**bleep**!
i don't think it was Google's problem, some others get 2 ways sync with their google accounts normally, but somehow some others including me do not. i searched in CB forum and BB website's forum, not only I have this critical issue. I don't understand is it your BB's strategy to "save the world" by release such a buggy OS to public? do you forget how you died during these years? is that your engineers' working attitude to what they are working on? i have nothing to do with it, it all depends on you, blackberry company. please understand that i've been so critical is because i have lots of love and expectation on you, blackberry company.

  • ATI Radeon HD 6770m + Intel 3000 GPU BIOS rom required

Hello everybody, Mine is the HP Pavilion dv6 6173cl. Everytime it freezes loading Windows. I've checked all the hardware and found out there's Videocard rom unreadable. Need to flash it once again. So, please, if there's anybody having the same config. I mean 6770m + Intel 3000, do me a favor and back your GPU BIOS up (for example that's easy to do using GPU-Z utility) and share with me.Thanks in advance.

Hello there! That problem was solved another way. Unfortunately it was not a rom issue. It means the video-card got burnt. There's 1 solution to resurrect it. You can bake it for 10 minutes. After that procedure some video-cards are back to life but for  short period, mine just lived for 2 more days)))Best solution is to chage the motherboard. Very easy procedure and costs about 90-100USD. Need to buy using the exact part number. For dv6 6173cl it is 659148-001. Note! DO NOT EVER BUY USED MOTHERBOARDS!!! They have no warranty period and 100% all are defective. Thus you should find some good shop (forget about ebay and aliexpress)... you can try hpparts.us

  • Seriously, Apple please fix multi-monitor display issues.

It's exceptionally annoying to have to reset my 3 displays every time my MacPro sleeps past the screen saver.

I understand your annoyance, especially when thing don't just work like they should.
Setting a hot corner to sleep displays results in the same wake behavior - second and third monitors lose resolution settings.
To be clear, my suggestion is to disable the ScreenSaver, either using the Expose settings, or using the ScreenSaver slider setting to Never.
This does not have an effect on the Energy saver settings for sleep of monitors and machines.
It only stops the video slide show of the screen saver from playing, and the monitor is black until sleep.
This issue has been present on all 3 2010 MacPros.
So, as you do, I suspect driver issues in the OS.
That is why the curiosity regarding possible behavior change if the ScreenSaver is not used.
In the issue that I mentioned, wake from sleep from ScreenSaver, was when the system would crash on wake.
Wake from sleep without ScreenSaver did not result in a crash.
The issue was traced to the mentioned driver after viewing logs in Console.
Of course, a big difference was that the graphics card in question was a flashed card with a hacked ROM, but troubleshooting gave clues toward correcting the ROM issue.
We may not be able to fix this, but with complete troubleshooting, an "educated" problem report can be made and forwarded so that, maybe, some future remedy may be had.
Anyhow, I noticed your other, older thread, and you have had a helluva a time.
Maybe, hopefully, we can find something that someone can use to fix this.........
Anyhow, I'm willing to try a bit.

  • Buttons don't work on Tecra M7 after Vista Upgrade

I know this one has been discussed many times, apologize and need to raise it again as my two function keys on my Tecra do not work post Vista Ultimate Upgrade.
If I press either of them right now they launch Windows Mobility Centre. I know this is not what should happen. They did work briefly last year after my machine came back from Toshiba repair. They had run some kind of utility that restored the functions (I had to drop back to XP Tablet as a I had a CD ROM issue that we thought was Vista related and turned out to be hardware failure), alas, I have not gone back to Vista and they don't work.
I installed all of the Vista updates in the order they are shown on the web site. I since saw the suggested order for loading the Vista drivers. A suggestion to Toshiba - it would be REALLY useful if you produced an updated upgrade guide for Vista with a step by step guide detailing the order that the updates should be run.
Anyone out there who can help - I would be really grateful for your feedback.

I managed to resolve this by modifying items in the Toshiba Value Added Package. I had to tick a box for button support that had not been added. If anybody else experiences this difficutly I hope this helps.

  • K8T Neo Won't install Windows XP - Linux works fine

OK, i just installed this MOBO, and I'm having a big problem.  It boots up fine, finds everything in the BIOS, but it won't run or install Windows.  I tried just using my old Windows XP install to begin with.  I would get a stop error before the Loading Windows screen even came up.  It wouldn't run in safe mode either.  I don't remember exactly what the stop error was anymore.  I then booted into Linux, and it runs fine.  So, I decided to reinstall Windows.  I put the CD in, it says press any key to boot from CD, and then it says "Checking hardware configuration" or something like that and freezes right there without giving an error.  I have to manually reset the computer.
I tried deleting the Windows partition and running setup again with the same results.  I even tried booting from a copy of the Windows disk, and tried installing Windows XP 64-bit edition as well.  Same results with both.  I reinstalled Linux because I messed up the boot record when I deleted the Windows partition, and the Linux install went flawlessly.
I have tried disabling SATA, USB, parallel ports, serial ports... everything I could think of in the BIOS.  I've tried it with PnP OS support turned on and off.  I've tried loosening the RAM settings as far as I can.  Nothing seems to work.
It's obviously not a CD-ROM issue, because Linux installs fine.  I've also tried multiple drives and media.  Linux is also installed on the same HDD as the Windows partiton, so it shouldn't be a HDD problem.  I've also tried swapping my Radeon 9800 out with a GeForce Ti 4600, and I've tried swapping the PSU supply out with another (although the other was only 250W).
For the life of me, I can't figure out what the problem may be.  Anyone have any ideas?
    - TIA

I really don't think it has anything to do with the PSU.  I've been using this PSU for over 6 months now on this system (had a Soyo K8USA Dragon Ultra in there before... otherwise the same system)  I've never had a problem, and I usually have a lot of crap running at once, e.g. DVD ripping/burning, file sharing, gaming, word processing, programming, browsing, etc., etc.  Granted, it's not the best PSU in the world, but it gets the job done quite well.  Also, now that Windows is installed, the problem has not reoccured.
The only thing I have noticed is that it takes quite a while to load the Windows loading screen now.  This screen should come up almost immediately.  Instead, there is about 30 seconds or so of waiting where all I see is a blank screen.  Afterwards, everything runs fine.  I have disabled the "show list of operating systems" option in Windows so that's not the issue.

  • Module Failed SCP dnld

Hi, I have a WS-SVC-IDSM-2 which is showing as PwrDown looking at the show power there is more than enough but there is an error message "Module Failed SCP dnld" does any body know why this is showing? it is something to do with the rom version.
    Regards MJ

Sounds like IDSM2 rom issue, or switch IOS that does not recognise it. Sometime this is also happened to Firewall module (FWSM).
Do a 'show hw-module all fpd' and/or 'sh module'. Check the IDSM2 power status at the end of the line. Is the Status 'PwrDown'?
Check the IDSM-2 and switch version compatibility matrix. Issue 'sh version' on the switch, and check the IDSM-2 version (session into IDSM-2).

  • 2007 Mac Mini Won't Start

    Hi All
I have a feeling the boards gone on this but I thought I'd run it past everyone.
Power the mac mini and no chime and no video but constant white light. Originally the fan came on an the cd that was still inside tried to spin and a wired mouse flicked it's red 'ball' light on briefly. There is no ethernet at this point (being that I plugged into a hub an no light displays on the hub).
Since then I have opened up the case I replace the internal battery and hard reset the smc with the switch on the board. I also removed the cd having to open the dvd drive up to get it out.
Try a boot and again we get a constant light no chime and no video. Although the fan has now stopped running.
seems like a boot rom issues for what I can gather and I don't know if these issues can be repaired save buying a motherboard. Or why the boot rom (if that's what it is) would just die.
Incidentally after the above I did remove the ram and the hd/dvd and power on to get the power light to flash which tells me the board manages to test for ram.
Just wondered if there was anything I could try before the BIN
    Cheers
    Steve

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

  • Video card in my G5

What would happen if I install a NX8600GTS in my G5?

It's actually a ROM issue - the ROM on the PC card is designed to work with the PC's BIOS and the Mac ROM works with the G5's Open Firmware. Some PC cards can have the ROM flashed to work in a Mac, and they'll then be operational provided that they're in a graphics card family that's already supported on OS X (e.g. the nVidia 7800GTX can be flashed and will work since the 7800GT is supported).

it's not receiving a DHCP response when the PXE ROM issues a DHCP discover.

ensure that your switching infrastructure is configured to suit (eg STP-portfast etc, although a portfast problem will not impact PXE in my experience)
maybe try a little 4-port switch or hub, between the laptop and the main switch? (to isolate a media negotiation issue)

I loaded all the drivers from MSI live update and BIOS flash to 1.3, everything on that end is up to date from their site. I've tried another IDE connected optical drive and have the same issue.
    thanks for the help

Also on the diagnostic lights on the MO I get the first 3 lit, 4th intermittent, and 5th nothing.
Thats normal (if it is the similar 5 LED's as on 790GX, -just above the ram-slot?) You will for example see the 5th light-up during Vista Experience Index running

One other thing I tried was a copy of windows 7 on a DVD that would not read when I tried a fresh install. I think its something between the MO and optical drive, is there anything in the BIOS to look for?
Do see any "yellow question mark" regarding the optical drive, in the Device Manager? Any how, there is a fix dealing with CD/DVD ROM issue at the official Window Fix It web site.
Click "delete lower & upper filters for CD devices" and follow link to the next microsoft site, there you just can click "Solve this problem" dialog box. Has helpt lot of people, worth trying

P.S. Link does not work prorpely, you have to copy & past the term delete lower & upper filters into search/upper right corner
