CDAQ lock-up on Windows 7 when app idle.

I scarse few details to help fix an issue I witnessed while on-site yesterday.
A LV app running under Win 7 using a cDAQ chassis will lock-up LV if the app is left idle for a couple of hours.
WHile Idle it just grabs samples from the AI chnnels and displays same.
Attempts to open the FP of the sub-VI grabbing the samples locks-up so I was not able to check if there where hardware errors. memory was pegged out at the time.
While monitoring the app for over an hour I saw no memory leaks and did not have time to wait for three hours or more so my facts are limitied.
For the sake of this post I am only interested in finding out if others have seen cDAQ locking up when the app is idle.
I did check the power save options and disabled the power saving feature for the USB but the isue did happena again after siting idle over-night.
SO...
Has anyone seen lock-ups of cDAQ ?
Ben
PS I added some logging to catch low-level errors when it happens again.

Not locking up, but I have seen a cDAQ constantly throwing errors after plugging in (or, more likely, unplugging) a USB flash drive (Win XP in that case) and it only stopped after the cDAQ was turned off and back on. It seems to me that there are things happening in the USB stack/driver which the cDAQ doesn't always like.
One thing you could try is looking the event log for Windows or search to see if there's a utility which would let you log USB events in the system. Assuming that's really the source of the issue (and it wouldn't shock me - your app might be stuck in the middle of a VISA call), then that might help to pinpoint it.
Your sense that it is USB related was confirmed by the log file.
I still have to follow-up with the customer to see if the issue is still re-occuring but the logged error indicated the buffer on the CDAQ backplne was over-flowing... NI Support found a KB article that explains that when doing highspeed I/O, and Windows going in to out of screen saver will stall the USB I/O long enough for the buffer to over-flow.
Customer was going to work with NI Support to fiddle with Windows and shut-down all of the power-saving etc options that could get in the way.
I THINK the error code was "-200361".
Take care,
Ben

  • Locking out one window when bringing up another.

I have an application that has a GUI interface and that application calls another class that also brings up a window where the user enters some parameters. When the second window is displayed I would like to lock the user out of the 1st window so that can not use it untill they have finished with the second window. How do I do this.

    Yes you can!
A Dialog is a Container and a Choice is a Component so you can therefore add a Choice to a Dialog.
    You have to
    Construct the Dialog
Set the layout manager on the Dialog
    Construct the Choice
add the Choice to the Dialog
Make the Dialog visible, using setVisible(true)
If you are using Swing, use a JDialog but don't use Choice as it is an AWT Class.
    Hope this helps

  • PS CS6 Locks up in Windows when I access Preferences or System Info in Help

I reset preferences, deactivated then reinstalled PS CS6 and CS6 64bit same issue. If I open PS CS6 (not x64) I can access preferences without a problem. I'm running windows 8 64bit. Everything else in x64 works normally (editing ect). Edit>Preferences>Camera Raw works. Anything else I choose in Preferences and PS freezes and I have to End Task in Task Manager. Any ideas ?

Problem solved (sort of). More of a work around.
If I start PS CS6 X64 then open Task Manager and select sniffer gpu and end task everything works fine. I've tried removing the sniffer gpu file from the folder as others suggested, then open PS then it freezes again. I put it back and then just end process in TM and all works.

  • Is there any event in windows universal app (wp8.1&win8.1) that fires when screen locked and unlocked with in the app?

    Hi All,
Is there any event in windows universal app (wp8.1&win8.1) that fires when screen locked and unlocked with in the app
Right now, I am using this below mentioned event
    Window.Current.VisibilityChanged +=
CurrentWindow_VisibilityChanged;, but it fires even when app relaunches.
Please anybody help me to solve this issue.

Thanks for your early reply. but, those are system triggers used in background task. I want an event that fires when screen gets locked. like this...(a networkstatuschangedevent)
    NetworkStatusChangedEventHandler
    networkStatusCallback =
    newNetworkStatusChangedEventHandler(OnNetworkStatusChange);

  • Where is my "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" option?

I want to turn off the "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" option but I don't see it in my General pane of the System Preferences, unlike what the on-line posts say. What am I missing?   Running 10.8.4

    Quit all of your apps.
Navigate to here: ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.loginwindow.*.plist (whereby * is a bunch of characters)
Click the file, do a File > Get Info and lock it using the Locked checkbox.
To reverse this setting, simply unlock the file!
Another helpful hint as well: Lion, by default, hides your ~/Library/ folder. To make it visible again without showing all of your other invisible files, simply open up Terminal and type:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library/

  • Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps will not stay unchecked

I upgraded my early 2011 model 15" MBP to Lion and this new feature is resulting in lots of strange behavior when it comes to system start-up and when i launch apps afterwards.  For now, I want to simply shut this feature off, so I go to System Preferences > General and I uncheck the "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" control.  If I then close and reopen system preferences, the check on this control is back!  I have tried various forms of other work-arounds such as locking the folders on an app by app basis in the ~/library/Saved Application State folder for the apps that act wierd and it sort of helped, but nothing seems allow me to just shut this off globally and make it stick.  Any thoughts on why I can't get the preference change to stick?

The Preferences selection simply stops the applications themselves from relaunching (previous state) windows when you launch them manually.
The log-out check box is for something entirely different. It stops the applications from relaunching, if they were open when you logged out, or shutdown.
There is no way to keep that second behaviour from occuring as a default. Apple will have to make a change in Lion to make the change something you can set as a permanent preference.
I use an automator script application to perform my shut-downs with one click. I have an alias for the script in my dock, right next to the Finder icon. The same script also "uncheck's" the box of which you are speaking.

For anyone else reading this thread, it is worth knowing that sometimes an email is, or can be, corrupted thereby jamming the works. The solution above is good, but I just wanted to suggest another one.
If the problem arises, go to an online mail access service, such as Mail2Web.com and login to you mail account there and delete the offending message.
    Problem solved.
And George, as this is all entirely voluntary, whinging about no takers may not endear people to you. Besides which, a few minutes of searching on Google would have found you a number of solutions.

  • [Forum FAQ] Go to Start Screen/Desktop when closing Windows Store App

After install Windows 8.1 Update 1, you will notice these things set by default even on touchscreen laptops and desktops:
Windows 8.1 now boots directly to the desktop.
Closing Windows Store Apps and go to desktop instead of Start Screen.
Besides option “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start” since Windows 8, another new option in Taskbar Properties “Show Windows Store app on taskbar” is used to control closing app behavior.
Features of "Show Windows Store app on taskbar"
When the setting is checked, all of the Windows Store apps that are currently running will display on taskbar. You can easily switch between Windows Store apps and your desktop and its applications through the taskbar. For mouse users,
you can also access the taskbar within a Windows Store app. Just move the mouse cursor to the button of the screen, the taskbar pops up.
    When the setting is unchecked,
Windows Store apps have no minimize button, only Close button
Windows Store apps that are open are not visible on Taskbar
Windows Store apps can still be pinned to the taskbar
How do these two options work for closing app behavior?
    Modern app and Taskbar   setting
    OFF
    ON
    Boot   to desktop setting
    OFF
    Close goes to Start
Close reveals the   app that was previously used, and eventually dead ends at the Desktop
    ON
    Close goes to desktop
Close reveals the   app that was previously used, and eventually dead ends at the Desktop
Know why “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start” does not work when “Show Windows Store app on taskbar” is checked on
    As MironV mentioned in the
thread, Windows 8.1 Update is designed to introduce a number of changes for mouse and keyboard users that would help them use and switch between Windows Store apps alongside their familiar desktop applications. A lot of these changes only made sense when
combined together, so they are toggled by one setting, which is “Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar.” This is usually enabled together with the first setting as a complimentary set of improvements for desktop users. When the setting is enabled, Windows
Store apps are intended to feel more like regular maximized applications living on the desktop, though they are full screen only. For example, when you launch apps from Start, they appear on the taskbar until they are closed. You can also minimize them or
switch between them by invoking the taskbar.
Please understand that unchecking the “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start" setting has no effect on close and minimize behavior when the “Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar” setting is checked, since
they are controlling two independent things. If you tend to use only one Windows Store app at a given time, it may seem like we’re not respecting the setting by going to the desktop.
Please click to vote if the post helps you. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

I don't know if I'm the only one, but on my desktop (using mouse and keyboard only) I like to have my Start screen as my main screen.  To ensure this I made sure to uncheck the "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop" box and
check the "Show Start on the display I'm using when I press the Windows Logo key" box. I also really like having the task bar appear at the bottom even when I'm using a modern app.  Based on the settings I've chosen (i.e., boxes I've checked or not checked),
I would expect to be taken back to the start screen and not the desktop whenever I close an app.  From what I've read from your response and from others in this thread, in order to accomplish this function (i.e., closing an app and going directly to the
start screen) I need to uncheck the "Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar" setting.  By doing this I get the functionality I was looking for when the apps are closed and I get sent to the start screen.  However, I am now not able to see the taskbar
when I'm in a modern app or when I'm on the start screen.  This seems counterintuitive/confusing as many have mentioned.  Not to mention it creates an additional step for users to get back to the Start screen.
All I want to do is (1) use my start screen as my main screen, (2) see the taskbar when running whatever app I'm using (e.g., modern), and (3) go back to my start screen (and not the desktop) when I close an app.  It would only make sense that I should
get these results if I leave the "Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar" box checked and the "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start" box unchecked; but unfortunately this is NOT the case.  I really hope that
an update fixing this is coming sooner rather than later because this is really annoying.

fail to install.  They display X beside them.  The workaround is to sign into windows live account and install them.
I do have a custom start layout installed via a deploy task sequence (using command POWERSHELL -NonInteractive -Command Import-StartLayout -LayoutPath .\CustomStartLayout.bin -MountPath %SystemDrive%\)
Disabling the custom layout import does not solve the issue.

  • Why am I getting the message "Your app isn't identified as a universal app in the Store." when I have already associated my Windows Phone app to my Windows Store app?

I associated two Windows Phone apps to their respective Windows Store apps yet one of them is giving me this message on the pricing tab...
"Your app isn’t identified as a universal app in the Store. Publish a Windows app with the same name, and you’ll enable the universal app icon, with all the associated benefits. If you’ve already published a related Windows app, this icon may not
be appearing because of restrictions you’ve set on your app.
    Learn more about  these restrictions."
I have checked under "Learn more" and I am meeting all the requirements for the icon to show.  Please help as I really think having this icon on the Phone store will help downloads and I want my users to know there is a Windows partner app.

I downloaded the new OS X Yosemite.
Not sure what you mean by new, since Yosemite was released about 9 months ago.
When i  try to open it i get this message, The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac is not compatible with OS X Yosemite.
iPhoto version 9.6.1 is the latest version of iPhoto that is compatible with Yosemite. If you're just now updating to Yosemite from an older version of OS X, then you may have missed your window of opportunity to upgrade iPhoto to the latest version.
So i go to the Mac App Store i get this message, "The item you've requested is not currently available in the U.S. store."
With the release of the 3rd Yosemite update,10.10.3, which includes Photos, iPhoto is no longer available for purchase.
I would recommend that you use Photos.

  • Windows Metro Apps lead to Start screen when opened.

  • Why is my app missing the tablet/phone icon in the Windows store when I have linked my phone app to my Windows Store app

I recently updated two apps that I had developed both Windows and Windows phone apps for.  They were not originally linked as they were developed before there was a linking process.  I updated both the phone apps to have the same in app purchases
as their corresponding Windows app and then linked their app package ids to there corresponding Windows apps as well.  However, only one of the two apps I updated now shows the Tablet/Phone icon in the Windows Phone store.  I would really like that
icon to appear as I think it will help downloads.  I linked the app packages the same on both apps so I don't know why one is showing the icon and the other is not.  The updated has been published for over a week so I don't think it's a timing issue.
    Please help.

It's just you. And the Caps Lock key on your keyboard is stuck. You should get that fixed.

I am trying to submit a Windows Store App (x64 for Windows 8.1 only), but it fails the certification procedure,  and I have no idea about what I am doing wrong.
    - The app passes successfully the local Windows App Certification Kit 3.4.
    - I have tried the app with the network cable out, and it works as expected.
    - I have used the same credentials to generate the appupload package and to submit it.
    - The app starts up and works as expected with a Surface Pro 3, a PC with development tools like Visual Studio; and another PC without anything extra installed.
    - The feedback provided by the certification testers is the following sentence: "10.3.1 App is testable: Unfortunately when we reviewed your app, it failed to launch every time."
