Centering a Jpanel on screen
Hi.
I'd like to center my JPanel to the center of the screen.
I've looked around, however i can't find out how to do it.
I found about setting the "bounds", however that is based on x, y Co-ordinates, and i'd like it to be centered for people on 800 x 600 resolutions, as well as 1024 x 768 (for example).
The other way i found is by:

Thanks for your answer. It is ok when using the lightbox without full screen option. When I use the fullscreen option, the container of the image is centered but the image in the container is not. I do center everything but when it comes to full scren there is nothing like centering.

For my application I have a jSplitpane with a list on the right hand side and a table on the left. The table is on a jScrollPane and the list is on its own jPanel which is in BorderLayout.
To set the divider location when starting the application I want the divider to be 100 in from the far right edge of the applications frame width. Therfore I have been getting the width of the container that the splitpane is on and setting the divider location to be 100 less than this value.
The method does not work however because the getWidth() method returns the width set before running the application. As I have the splitpane set to be in the centre of the overall container it expands to fill all available space. Therfore is different to what is specified in the code.
My question then is how do I get the width of the overall container on screen (i.e after borderLayout manager has re-sized it to fit)?

You have to check the actual size after the component has shown on screen. For that you may add window listener on top container of your splitpabe (frame or dialog) and in windowOpened event do actual task. The size at that moment will be the actual size.

Indesign keeps centering the page on screen - ID9.2 BUG?
Hi, a little help from the Adobe please...
Over the last week or so we have noticed that the latest version of InDesign CC (9.2) has a page viewing bug. Or at least it's a bug for us here. Adobe might have added it as a feature, but to us it's a bug.
Not all the time, but about 95% of the time, InDesign is centering the page in the open window when you click in a text box, when you swap between open windows (cmd & ~) and when you press tab and you don't have a text box selected.
To explain the annoyance: When we are viewing a double page spread, we click into text boxes on both pages to edit text and InDesign automatically centers one of the pages on the screen. This is not always the page that you are working on. This is a pain as the text box you have just clicked in to edit may now be outside of the viewable window and you then need to scroll over to see that portion of the page.
On top of this the bug is playing havoc with our eyes as it keeps shifting the pages, sometimes by about an inch and suddenly where you were looking is no longer there, it's moved an inch. Grrrrrr.
We are running Mac OSX 10.8.5, InDesign CC 9.2, dual monitor setups, Wacom Intuos 5 tablets (not mice). We cannot use Application Frame as we are running Apple 23" screens and have all our pallettes on the 2nd screen so that we can see a full A4 page at 100% on the main monitor. We have had these hardware setups for the last 3 years+ and this bug has only reared it's head in the last week... hence we think it's in ID 9.2.
Does anyone know what this is and whether it is a new setting Adobe have introdcued that needs to be switched off somewhere?

Centering canvas on browser screen
I have been trying to set up my Fireworks pages so that they look centered on a standard browser. Under Modify - Canvas - Canvas Size, I chose the "top center" arrow from the grid of 9 choices. When I export (I export to Dreamweaver), under Options I chose Page Alignment - Center. This did not center the page. So, in the HTML within Dreamweaver, I added <p align=center> in this line:

Yes, you have a few problems.
First, you have your container div starting in your head section. The tags in html are like parentheses in math - they have to match in pairs and have to fully enclose any other sets. For example, you can write:

because the start of the square bracket is in the first set of curly brackets, but the end is in the second set.
The head section is for stuff that doesn't appear in your page, such as meta tags, JavaScript code, CSS definitions and so on. The body section is for all the stuff that will display, such as HTML text and images. Both head and body are enclosed in the "html" tag.
You need to move your opening div for #container out of the head section and just below your body tag.
Second, you have an additional div ("centered"), but you have no CSS definitions for it. And you open two divs but only have one closing tag (/div). Everything you open needs to be closed. (A few tags are not paired, such as the img tag, but most are.) Just remove that div id="centered" line.
Third - and this is the bit that keeps your page from looking centered - your table of content is 681 pixels wide, but you're centering a region that is 1024 pixels wide. In your definition of #container, you need to change width to 681px.
Also, you should probably add the "text-align: left;" part, although it doesn't matter with your site because you don't actually HAVE any text, all your content is in images....
...Which is not how you want to build your pages. Your text you want to have as text. Text rendered by a browser is clearer than text in images. Plus, without text, the search engines have nothing to index.
Go through the tutorial on NetTuts+ to see how you would do that. The author uses Photoshop for graphics, but Fireworks works just as well.

Has anyone encountered an "exclamation point symbol" in a gray circle surrounded by a black screen when editing in iphoto?
Yes.
The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Don't want DW6 to open new documents in Full Screen? How can I do this?
I have read a few posts and there doesn't seem to be an answer yet. Thought I'd bring this to the forefront and see if anything new has been discovered.
When I open my first html document it always opens in Full Screen, which is huge (wide), covering everything else on my desktop (which I use in conjuction with DW). I have to find the tiny little bottom lower right corner (usually close to and almost hidden by the Dock) and drag the window to a workable size. Obviously a new html page is never the width of the full wide screen, so why does DW assume this is a workable size? We all use the Abode products because they work together with each other, which are usually open and working on your desktop as well. Someone at Adobe didn't think this out!No Nancy, everything opens just fine, the issue is the document window opens up full-screen behind everything (all my panels are there on top). The window is obviously upworkable until I scale it to fit in the rest of my viewable space. An html page is centered in this wide-screen upon opening, effectively being partially covered with tabs and panels. The outside space that the full screen window takes up is nothing but a solid color, covering useful space where I want to see my panels, some desktop for other apps if I wish etc. So effectively I have to resize the full screen window down, to the edges of the "workable" html designated space, which is all I need to see. Not 8" of a blank, useless window on each side, covering everything else. I would assume most of us web designers are using and viewing other apps, windows etc. on their desktop at the same time. If nothing else you can't even work on the html page until you resize it i order to see the panels which cover it. In PS for instance once you size a document window the program remembers the size on your screen and position where it opened last.

Unable to obtain full screen when burning DVD

8. When burning dvd and then playing on my tv through dvd player I am not getting a full screen. The wide screen video covers about 3/4 of the screen instead of the entire screen. The settings I am using are NTSC widescreen dolbyDVD, and Quality is checked with no changes in quality. The preview screen is set on a magnificatgion fit. The Video is centered on the preview screen. I have spent hours trying to resolve this problem? I have a trial version and not sure if want to purchase with this problem.
I tried to upload the 8.01 up grade and my computer just blinks on and off; will not load?I have been having the same problems. See my discussion threads on aspect ratios in the past few days.
Let me share my thoughts on this. Apparently Elements 8 is optimized to work on 4:3 CRT TV's; HD flat screen TV's must not have made much penetration in India yet. So when you set the output for NTSC widescreen, what Elements does is compress the widescreen data into a 4:3 frame, squeezing the image horizontally. Counterintuitively, what you have to do is select NTSC normal. Then Elements does not further squeeze the widescreen data. What it then does is fit it into a 16:9 letterbox, still containing the left and right bars, within the 4:3 frame. Set the DVD to playback in widescreen mode, which expands the letterbox image to full width of the TV, though retaining the left and right bars, then zoom the TV image to full the screen, to eliminate all the bars top, bottom and sides. Worked for me, but I used a SD camcorder set to record in widescreen.
A better option might be to change the default pixel aspect ratio, which I am yet unable to effectuate. -
How to export .MOV in desired video pixel size and in a centered format.
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium SPK2 and Quick Time for Windows Pro Version 7.6.5 the latest release.
I have a series of Quick Time .mov files which were shot at HD using a Canon Mark II EOS 5D camera. In total its about 28 GB of .mov files seperated into 78 different .mov clips. The movie inspector says they are .H264 format at 1920 x 1080 pixels
When I look at the QTM Other Properties Visual Settings it tells me the .mov Transformation for Normal, Display and Scaled is 1920 X 1080 pixels. I have checked 'Preserve Aspect Ratio.
I have figured out that I can drag all the individual clips into QTP thus making a single complete movie so to say. However, I have not been able to figure out how to convert this into a mpeg file (compressed ) that will display normally both on a PC when burned to DVD or to play on a standard DVD player or even play at the correct size on a PC.

It also does not display at the requested size when the mpeg file is played natively on the PC wheter using Video Lan, Windows Movie Player, or just clicking on the file and letting IE open it. Their also seems to be a centering issue in which the movie is not centered in the playback window but rather is positioned in the upper left corner, theirby leaving white space to the right and bottom of the player. The original .mov file which I can view in QTP does not have this problem. In fact I have to use the Half Size option so as to view it entirely other wise its too large for my standard PC display.
I want the completed movie to appear similarly to what one would get if they were to purchase a DVD movie at the store.
I have gotten it to export in two different sizes reducing down to 256mb and 576mb respectively but both resulting mpeg files display smaller than I desire. The larger one is suppose to be displaying as 1280 x 720 pixels but does not appear to be doing so It appears more like 640 x 480 image. Also neither finished mpeg shows centered in the playback screen.
My Export Options are set as:
Movie to MPEG-4
File Format: MP4
Video Format: MPEG-4 Improved
Image Size 1280X720 HD
Preseve Aspect Ratio using Fit Within Size
Frame Rate: 29.97
Key Frame: Automatic
Resync Markers
Yes, I also tried one using the H264 option at the larger 1920 x 1080 HD format which should be the native QT format according to the movie inspector properties and likewise it does not correctly in size and in fact is blurry.
How does one take a .mov file and convert it so that it can be
centered correctly, burned onto a DVD and play like a commercial DVD does.
I have also tried Womble.com MPEG Video Wizard DVD 5.0 which does make a DVD which will play on a PC with the same incorrect video display image settings. It will not play on a DVD player.

I discovered that the begining graphics of my video which were set at 1280 x 720 pixels were causing the entire video to be reduced in size. I recreated the opening graphics at 1920 x 1080 pixels added in about 90 frames of each graphic ( 3 seconds each ) and the video now converts to mpeg4 at 1280 x720 pixels filling the video screen.
Later on I will test it at the full 1920 HD conversion and report back what I find. -
How much does it cost for iPhone5 screen replacement in India for a phone purchased in India.
I purchased this phone in Nov, 2013. Unfortunately I dropped it in water day before. After drying and stuff, the screen remains blank but the phone seems to be working fine. It rings when called and shows up in iTunes. Assuming that the screen may have died and needs replacement I would like to know how much should it cost. Also, do the service centers in India do screen replacement?

Retina MacBook Pro screen(Samsung) compared to 2010 MBP screen
I was doing some comparison between my Samsung retina MBP and a Mid 2010 glossy 15" MBP in a room lit with daylight. The quality in the screen is amazingly better and I am not referring to the resolution improvement.
Both are using the standard color display profile, 10.8.2, and Safari 6. (rMBP = retina version below)

rMBP: only 254 is not disinguishable from nearly every angle.
MBP: you can only distinguish up to 248 with 0 degree viewing angle. Only when you start looking 60+ degrees off center can you distinguish up to 251 but then you have severe color distortion.

rMBP: Easily pick out down to 8. If I look hard enough I can distinguish down to 5. In dark room can barely make out down to 3.
MBP: Easily down to 7 and down to 5 if you change viewing angle.

rMPB: see equal steps in brightness across entire range
MBP: past 24 the bars look fairly uniform and not easy to distinguish steps, last 2 bars are saturated

ITunes window centers itself when you click on anything in the left sidebar
Has anyone else noticed that if you click on anything in the left sidebar (i.e. "Music", "Movies", etc.) that the itunes window centers itself on your screen both vertically and horizontally? interesting feature. I just noticed it so I hope it doesn't become annoying. I don't want iTunes thinking it needs to be the center of attention. It's not that important.... oh wait....
Same thing going on here. Tremendously irritating.
I recently installed a companion piece of software called TuneUp. Only noticed that it started doing this after the latest update to TuneUp. Thought I'd mention it here in case anyone else has the same symptoms. Have not yet tried disabling anything as mentioned elsewhere in this thread. If I do that and it solves the problem, I'll follow up. (Right now iTunes is in the middle of syncing thousands of updated tracks to my iPod and I don't want to interrupt it.) -
Centering Applications, spawning windows and other GUI stuff
Hi, possibly a silly question, but leave me alone I'm new :o)
How do I get my application to center on the screen ? At the moment it opens upin the top left hand corner of the screen.
Also whilst I'm on the topic my app with goes from screen to screen, that is when you click a button it makes turns that window "off" and opens the new destination window with setVisible(true/false), however when ever I move to the new window it always opens in the default location, is there a way in whivh the opened window appears in the location of the old one, for example, invoke the app, move the window around the screen, clikc a refresh button which will close and then re-open the same window and for the new scren to be in the new location, at the moment it will re-open in the top left hand corner of the screen as per usualHi,
