Centering my page in the browser

Hi,
I am designing a website using css, is there a way of centering a page vertically?  I have set my left and right margins to auto so the page sits in the middle of the browser window horizontally, but is there a way of doing this vertically too?
Thanks in advance,
Andy

I have never seen a need to do that so I havn't tried it myself but maybe this will help get you in the right direction:

  • Centering a Page within the browser

    My page is centered with in the brower however depending on how long vertically the page is the center move. So when you change to certian pages some are positioned in one spot the others are positioned slightly to the left and its pretty noticable when navigating through the site. How can i correct it that the page stays in the same spot centered in the browser.

  • How do I view my web pages in the browser again?

    I was able to work on my web pages in Dreamweaver MX2004 and view them in a browser until 3 days ago.  I have also been able to make changes on my web pages which showed up in my website until around 3 days ago.  i am very frustrated. I can no longer view them in a browser or make changes that show up on my website.   Any suggestions?

    I didn't install anything new.  I am using Windows 7 on a new computer and had successfully gotten my Dreamweaver installed and running.  I was able to view my pages in the browser just fine.  I made changes to my site just fine.  Now when i go to F12 to preview in the browser, all I get is a blank page showing my connection number to my web host and in little letters at the top, it says "pageok".  I have always seen the page and could correct any mistakes, but now I can't see the page.  It's also unbelievable the changes I have tried to make on some pages show up in my local and remote pages on my computer but do not show up when I go to the website.

  • Centering my site in the browser

    Hello there.
    I've just finished building a website with a fluid layout. When I tried it in the browser, it's not centered. I tried adding <center> </center> tags to the body of the HTML page but this didn't work... so how can I fix it?

  • I click on a link or start typing text in a box on a webpage, any page, and the browser window either randomly changes size, reduces & goes to the toolbar, or some other strange random thing occurs. Why is this?

    Whenever I am using Firefox, when I am on a webpage (any webpage) & I either click on a link in that page, start typing in a box, click on a button, or click on a tab, the browser window either reduces to the toolbar, or just changes size, usually from full-screen to 2/3 of its size. I reinstalled Firefox (downloaded from the web) after wiping my hard drive because I was having so many problems from my browser constantly crashing, to the computer itself crashing often, to the computer running exceptionally slow. At first everything seemed fine. But then after having opened my computer a few times, a few different windows began to freeze, then that stopped, then this thing with the browser started a few times later after opening it. Now it does it every time I open it. Also, whenever I try to click on a button on other windows on my computer, I get the 'warning' sound, nothing happens, then after a couple more tries, the button works. All of this is just weird. I had antivirus protection on my computer, but it apparently did not catch whatever virus infected my computer, or the damage was already done when it did get it. I thought once the hard drive was wiped, that everything would be ok, but then these weird things began to start up, and now I am wondering.... Of course, it could also be something wrong with the browser, too. I've also had some trouble getting my printer to working again, but I've managed to solve that problem.

    I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
    When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
    At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
    I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • Printing a web  page from the browser using JSP

    Hi sir,
    I want to know how to print a webpage that contains some
    report data where the web page contains a button as well when i click the button only the webpage contents(report data) should be send to the printer and should be printed.Here i should not use any javascript.By using pure java code in Jsp i need to do this.Pls.provide the code for this so that i will be grateful to u.Where it is very Urgent.I will be waiting for ur reply.
    Thanx,
    m.ananthu

    If you are reasonable sure that the user will be using a newer browser you could use the <LINK> tag to set an alternative print page. When the user clicks on the print button it calls a javascript funtion that does a window.print function call. The browser will then request the alternative print page and print this page instead of what is in teh browser.
    This will require two JSP pages but with proper use of includes you can reuse the code.
    Sorry I don't have any examples handy so you'll have to search the web but I know it works because I've done it for an intranet site.

  • [SOLVED]change the font that displays pages in the browser Uzbl

    hi all
    there is some form in the browser Uzbl change the type of font displayed on web pages?
    thanks

    You would need to apply a style sheet that loads for all pages that you visit (fonts that you view on the web are determined by a) the designers who specify either specific fonts, or families (like serif) and b) the fonts that you have installed on your system).

  • Wrong JSP page in the Browser text field

    Hi,
    I'm using Glassfish as JSF Container and have some strange problem with JSF navigation.
    The navigation itself works but according to the JSF spec the browser address field should stay the same for all pages/outcomes if 'redirect' is not specified. In my case it's somehow populated by previosly loaded page name.
    For example: if browser initially showed the http://server/faces/page1.jsp and as a result of "dopage2" outcome Glassfish generated and sent the page2.jsp - everything is fine - it is properly rendered and address field contains the same http://server/faces/page1.jsp, but after the outcome "dopage1" was sumbited and processed from page2.jsp - the page1.jsp is rendered properly but address field contains http://server/faces/page2.jsp, so it changing and changing not correctly (for another outcome lets say "dopage3" sumbited from page1.jsp there will be http://server/faces/page1.jsp - always late by one submit).
    If anybody have some idea why is it changing the address bar, - it will help a lot.
    Thanks,
    Dmitry.

    Actually there is nothing in the spec about the browser address field...
    I believed it should be there because it is outlined in the Core JSF book. There is whole chapter about 'redirect' saying the browser address field should stay the same during the JSF session if no redirect was specified.
    So, If it is the expected behavior, is not confusing for the user to see the http://server/page1.jsp in the addressfield when page2.jsp is actually displayed?

  • When I test my update page in the browser, all I get is a blank screen

    I'm feeling like I live here.  I just finished everything on the data entry part of my site.  Everything worked.  I made an addition to a table, went back to my update page, changed a menu/list from a list to menu, and now I just get in the browser is a blank screen.  I know that it's something in the PHP, but I haven't been able to figure it out.  Help (once again)!

    As i poured over the code for the nth time, I discovered that when I rebuilt the page i inadvertently forgot to delete the first many lines of code that won't go away by just deleting items from the document window.  Anyway, the caution is to remember that the code that precedes the DOCTYPE must be deleting in the code window.  And IHOP, thanks.

    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • When i preview the page in the browser why is there grey padding and how do i get rid of it?

    Why doesnt the image go from edge to edge? Sorry if stupid question i am new to muse.
    Thank you.

    laity -  If you want the image to fill the space around the page content, set the Browser Fill to an image and set Fitting to Stretch to Fill. If you just want an image to span the width, create a 100% width rectangle and set its fill to an image in the same way. You can also set an image frame to be 100%.
    100% Width icon.

  • Blank page in the browser after deployment

    Hi, i'm working with an ADF application development . Testing the application with the Jdev built in server. It was running for all these days and suddenly starting last evening the deployments gives blank page in the brower. No errors were given in the server logs. I undid all the changes that i made and still same blank page and no errors.
    Can some one help me to trouble shoot this. Thanks .

    i tried to copy the working code from history . But that didn't solve the problem .
    Right click on the file name from Application Navigator , and under Versioning , there is an option called "Undo Changes" solved the issue.
    I still didn't get the reason, because i did the same by coping the code from history. But that didn't work.

  • Centering a page in a browser window.

    A friend called me up over the weekend wondering how to get a page to center in a browser window. I was caught off guard and told him I would have to call him back (Not working with Dreamweaver or HTML on a daily basis can cause the simplest things to become foggy or lost.) The best I could tell from one of my Dreamweaver books is that you need to set all of the margins to zero in the property inspector. This should make sure all of the areas around the page are equal.
    I want to make sure so I come here seeking the final answer. Was I correct with the margins to zero answer?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    This gets asked a lot.  You really only need 3 things to center a page.
    1) a valid document type declaration on the top of your page.  DW does this for you when you open a new HTML document.
    2) A declared container width in pixels, ems or percentages.
    3) Margin-left and margin-right set to auto.
    CSS Code:
    #container {
    width: 900px;
    margin: 0 auto; /**this centers container in modern browsers**/
    text-align: center; /**this centers container in old browsers**/
    HTML Code:
    <body>
    <div id="container">
    your page content goes here
    </div>
    </body>
