CF Server just spikes, how do you see what it's running!

we have 7 webservers in a cluster.  The code is all the same via svn.  Now we have a few websites, a few simple monitors that report the server load (these are all linux servers) and they all hover around .5 -> 2.  Lunch time, early evening for a span of 30-90 minutes, one will start, go from a 1.5 to 13, then 24, then 45 killing the box.  The loadbalancer sees it and takes it out of the loop so it won't continue to get new traffic but the load continues to rise as 'it' processes whatever it is running.
Is there a way to say in plain english, "Cold Fusion, what pages, queries, etc. are you running right now"?   I tried using the CF Monitor, the alerts which send you a huge dump on info none of which really helps.  I have thought about fusionreactor, which we looked at a long time ago, but had problems installing and didn't have time dedicated to really looking at it.
So is there an 'apachetop' type thing command line, or something to help debug.  We get thousands of logs every 10 minutes so using a log parser like splunk seems almost impossible.
Thanks.

You should look at FusionReactor again: http://www.fusion-reactor.com/. We run 10 instances across 2 servers and it's been invaluable in identifying bottleneck issues. I first tried it because we were having memory spike issues and just couldn't track it down. Once I installed it, I was able to identify the issue and even the specific piece of code the first week. Seems it's at least worth the effort in doing the free trial if you really want to track down your problem. Try it, you'll like it:) I personally like the Enterprise Dashboard and the current Running Requests and the ability to drill down into each requests details.
Oh, and it took me about 15 minutes to install it.

  • How do i see what applications are running in the background

    My iMac is running very slow my operating system is OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.2 with a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor. How do I see what applications are running in the background?

    Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    Alternatively, see:

  • How can you see what the actual fonts look like in menu?

    In WORD - when you go to the menu bar to see the fonts, you'll see maybe a hundred of them - but you see them the list in the "actual" font style of each font! So in a few seconds you can actually "see" a hundred font types - makes it easy to quickly select which one you like.
    I can't seem to do this in FCPro 5.04. I must click each font from the menu bar - type a word and THEN I see what it looks like. VERY TIME CONSUMING if you don't know your fonts!
    Isn't there a way in FCPro se see all the fonts in a list in the actual "style" of each font - like WORD does? There's a haxie called "Fontcard" that does exactly this - but not in FCPro!
    Can anybody do this - or I'm dreaming here - just keep checking them out 1 font at a time!!
    Thanks,
    Larry

    Larry,
    If you're not in too big a hurry when using Title 3D, you can scroll through the font list. As you go from one font to another, the characters you have highlighted will show in that font. Other than that, I use FontBook to preview fonts quickly.

  • How can I see what apps are running on a non-startup disk

    I recently changed over to a larger drive from my older startup drive. I want to erase that original drive and clean it up. When I go to Disk Utility and erase it says "erase failed, could not unmount disk". I try to eject it and it says "HD is in use".
    I figure I just need to see what's running on that drive and stop it somehow, or if there is another workaround?

    If you're willing to use a command in Terminal, try this, where "old_disk" is the name of the old disk. (If the name of the old disk contains any spaces, prefix each space with a back-slash.) It will show you each file on the old disk that's open.
    sudo lsof | grep /Volumes/old_disk
    Spaces doubled for readability. The character just before "sof" is a lower-case letter "L". You'll be prompted for your administrative account's password.

  • How can you see what computers are authorized with my account?

    Good afternoon. I installed iTunes on my desktop computer at home because I began creating a music library. My first original install was on my laptop and then I decided to add iTunes to my desktop. When I authorized iTunes on my desktop it said it was the third computer that is authorized to play content purchased with this Apple ID.
    How do I find out where else I have authorized iTunes? Is there a way in which a person can find out? Does my iTouch count as one?
    If I rest the computers authorization will it delete my music library if I did that? I know you can only do it once a year. I am afraid someone else will use my account.
    Thank You

    In order to see which devices are authorized on your account:
    Open iTunes
    Click Store
    Click Account
    Click View Account
    Enter your password
    Look in the second section iTunes in the Cloud
    To the far right you'll see Manage Devices
    Once it's clicked you will see all of the devices currently authorized in iTunes/on your account
    I was going to say, "Hope this helps," but based on the above, I'm pretty sure it did!
    Thanks guys...

  • What does the other mean on my itunes and how do you see what is in your other?

    When i was syncing my ipod its other category rose from around 1gb to 42gb in seconds and i do not know what the files are can anyone suggest something, because i have been on other chat things and they said it would be either album artwork or photos

    Other is the measure of used space on the iPod not taken up by Audio, Video & Photos. This includes the iPod's library and artwork plus any files you may have copied to your iPod in disk mode. The overhead for the library & artwork data is typically 1-2% of the size of the media, e.g. for 1Gb of Audio & Video expect to have around 15mb of Other. This information is needed for the iPod's operation and cannot be removed.
    If you have significantly larger amounts of Other, not related to files you've intentionally placed on the iPod, then these are probably disconnected copies of your media files or iPod libraries left over from failed sync operations. The only way to recover the space is to do a full restore.
    If you have copies of all your media in your iTunes library this isn't a problem, but if you've been manually managing the content then you might need to try to recover the files from it first. See this post by Zevoneer on transferring files from the iPod to your computer. Some of the tools rely on the iPod having a healthy library however the manual method mentioned towards the end of the post should work regardless.
    Note restoring should clear all files from the iPod's drive however sometimes it doesn't actually seem to work. Options include manually deleting all visible & hidden files & folders via Explorer/Finder or formatting the drive.
    When repopulating the drive you may find breaking the process up into smaller stages makes it less likely to fail.
    Break up large transfers
    In iTunes select the menu item File... New Smart Playlist. Change the first drop-down box to Playlist, the next to is and the next to Music or whatever playlist holds the bulk of the content you want on your device. Tick against Limit to, type in say 10, then change the drop-down to GB, and set the last drop-down to artist. When you click OK you can enter a name for the playlist, e.g. Transfer. Now sync this playlist to your iPod rather than your entire library. When the sync is complete modify the rule (File... Edit playlist) to increase the size by your chosen amount, then sync and repeat. You can experiment with different size increments, if it doesn't work just choose something a bit smaller until it works each time. Before long you should have all your music on your iPod. Once that's done you can move on to other media such as podcasts, videos, photos, playlists etc.

  • How do you see what "other" storage is?

    For some reason, "other" is taking up a lot of storage on my ipad.  How do I get rid of?

    How much is a lot?
    You can't get rid of it all, but if the size is larger than what is considered normal, the only way to resolve it is by restoring your iPad with iTunes.

  • How do you know what programs are running?

    Is there any way to tell from the Dock which programs are running? In Tiger there use to be a little black arrow underneath the app. What's changed in Leopard?

    The default Leopard Dock indicators are a bit difficult to see with the light background and 3D glass effect. If you would like to have a different look then go to http://www.leoparddocks.com/ I'm using the "Revamped" design.

    Check out the class java.lang.System and look at the javadoc for its method getProperties().
    Properties sysProps = System.getProperties();
    Enumeration sysPropsKeys = sysProps.propertyNames();
    while (sysPropsKeys.hasMoreElements())
    String key = (String) sysPropsKeys.nextElement();
    System.out.println(key + ": " + (String) sysProps.getProperty(key));
