CF8 install to work with Flex 3

...well Flex 3 or other flash remoting...
I've been doing CF coding for a while now. A year or so ago I
tried to do some flash remoting but could never get the flash to
talk to CF. I could get the CF to provide XML to the flash
component but I could never talk to the CFC's directly. I ended up
scrapping the flash and finished the coding in CFML.
Now, I've got a little spare time and I thought I'd learn
Flex 3. Things in my dev environment have changed a small amount; I
went from CF7 to CF8. Thinking that CF8 had better support for
flex/flash I started trying to connect to the CF CFC again and have
run into the same issues all over again.
I've dug over the past two weeks looking for anything that
could be causing the issue (the component has public access and I
can now see connection errors). I'm pretty sure that it's
coldfusion at this point. In the administrator I've got the flash
remoting and RDS enabled.
I've tried coldfusion on linux and win2k3 with the same
results. I actually has less luck with flex builder with coldfusion
running on linux.
What am I missing to allow connection to CF from a flash/flex
component?

Hi,
From your Flex application, you want to use the RemoteObject
MXML tag (<mx:RemoteObject />). As long as Flash Remoting is
available in the CFAdmin, which you indicated it is, it should
work. I've done/do this running CF8 on Mac OS X, Linux, and Win
2003.
Here's a sample of MXML code for this.
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="absolute" creationComplete="init()">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.rpc.events.FaultEvent;
import mx.collections.ArrayCollection;
import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
import mx.controls.Alert;
[Bindable]
private var myAC:ArrayCollection;
//runs on creationComplete event of mx:Application tag
private function init():void{
this.ro.getAll();// call the method on your CFC when app
inits
private function gotEm(event:ResultEvent):void{
myAC = new ArrayCollection();
myAC.source = event.result as Array;
private function oops(event:FaultEvent):void{
Alert.show(event.fault.toString());
]]>
</mx:Script>
// the remote object, which connects to CF via FlashRemoting
<mx:RemoteObject id="ro" destination="ColdFusion"
source="webroot.appfolder.cfcfolder.cfcname">
<mx:method name="getAll" fault="oops(event)"
result="getEm(event)" />
</mx:RemoteObject>
// DataGrid to hold results..naturally you would make this
nicer :)
<mx:DataGrid id="dg" dataProvider="{myAC}"/>
</mx:Application>
Have you tried similar code? It's often helpful to see some
code you're having trouble with, if that's possible.
Hope this helps!

• Working with Flex and Central

Hi,
I am new in Flex and Central and interested in working with
Flex and Central and I'm currently trying to run one of the samples
from the "Central Flex SDK", the HelloFlexCentral. I have an error
when trying to run the application. The "import.mx.central" line is
not recognized.
I don't understand how to connect Flex and Central. My
questions are :
- Do I have to install a JRun environment to run/develop this
kind of application or can I develop the application without a JRun
Environment ?
- Can I deploy my application on a IIS server for example
(and then all the users will install it in central by accessing
this webserver) ?
- Where do I have to put all the "CentralIntrinsics" stuff to
avoid this error I encounter ?
Thank you for your answers.
Olivier

If you want three distinct notes, I suggest you cut it into three samples, then using flex pitch drag the notes to the pitches you desire. Keep in mind that the farther away a note is from it's actual sampled pitch, the worse it's quality will be.

• Microsoft Silverlight does not install on Firefox 5. It is installed and works with Internet Explorer 9. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it but it still says it's missing when I try to play a video online. I am running Windows 7, 64bit on a Sony laptop

unable to play video on www.iranibash.com, it says that MS Silverlight is not installed. But it is installed and works with IE9. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin but it still says it's not installed in Firefox 5. When I try to install it, it says installation failed.

Forgot to mention that it won't play Netflix either.

Modified Paths:
osmf/branches/flex4/build/build.xml

No, you don't need Flash Builder to use the Flex SDK. If you download the SDK and unzip it, you'll find a 'bin' directory that has the mxmlc compiler in it. You can compile Actionscript or MXML files using that.
./mxmlc MyFlexApp.mxml
If you are building an AIR application, you will use amxmlc
./amxmlc MyAIRFlexApp.mxml
Then, launch your AIR application using adl
./adl.exe MyAIRFlexApp-app.xml

• Mac Mini 10.4 install disk work with a macbook?

Hello All,
Will my Mac Mini 10.4 install disk work with a Macbook? I believe the model is either a MB061LL/A or MB062LL/A.
Thank You in advance!

Yes, and possibly the system that disc can install is not Intel compatible. It would have to be a late 2006 model, which was the start of the Intel series of Minis.

• Tools required to install to work with Oracle Data warehouse

Could anyone please guide me...as I am quite new to Oracle...
till now I was working on Data warehousing using Microsoft tools i.e. (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, SQL Server)
So Please tell me which are the tools required to install to work with Oracle Data warehouse
I came to know about OWB and OBIEE, but not sure what exactly these are ?

In order to create and develop a webcenter portal application, you only need to install JDeveloper and download the WeBCenter extensions. That's true.
But this install does not include the WebCenter services like dicussions, document services, analytics,... If you want to use these and integrate them in your portal, then you would need to install the suite as described on my blog.

• Does CF8 Report Builder work with CF7?

Title says it all. I have CF7 and I recently uninstalled CF7
Report Builder. I saw CF8 Report Builder on the adobe downloads
page and wondered if it works with CF7 (minus the new features of
CF8).

Hi Tarun,
The runtime distribution packages are for licensed users who have developed an application. As long as your app is for internal use only then there are no extra fee's. However if you are selling or installing your application outside of your company then please contact our Sales team to purchase a one time deployment license package.
As for making CR 2008 runtime work on and in 64 bit OS's, it won't happen. CR 2008 is 32 bit only. Next version of CR has both 32 and 64 bit runtime but it's currently beta only and should not be installed in a live production system.
Your other options are to use VS .NET 2008 and CR 10.5 runtime which does have a 64 bit runtime package but is limited as to which database types you can connect to and export types you can export the report to.
Thank you

• Best CMS that works with flex.

Hey what are good CMS (php,cf,etc.) that work well with Flex? I'd like to use something like Joomla, then just extract the data and use my flex front end to display it.
Is there a CMS that creates nice XML feeds that work well with flex?
or would I be better just accessing the database with php and writing my own XML output file?
thanks!!

That method is not supported by Apple and is prone to producing corrupted backups out of the blue after working OK for awhile.

• Does the Apple Snow Leopard install USB work with any macbook air?

Hi guys and girls,
Im changing the hard drive in my MBA 2008 A1237 from the 80GB HDD to the 64GB SSD. Ive seen a Snow Leopard install usb on ebay for £15 so ive brought it.... but I was wondering if it would actuly work with my particular Air?
As my perivouse exspriance tells me that some install DVDs are tied to cirent products such as my iMac install dvd wont work on my Macbook..
Thanks
Firky

The OS X Lion Thumb Drive isn't being sold by Apple, so you need Snow Leopard. Buy Snow Leopard from Apple and use the USB SuperDrive to do it. Then, open Apple menu > Software Update and install the most recent version. If you don't want to spend more money, stay in Snow Leopard, but if you want Lion, call Apple to purchase Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

• Will a Mountain Lion install USB work with putting Mac OS on a brand new hard drive?

My MacBook Pro's hard drive has crapped out and I'm planning on purchasing a new hard drive for it. However, this new hard drive will be completely clean and no remnants of Mac OS will be on it when I receive it. But before my hard drains crapped out, I made a Mountain Lion install USB like the one made here: http://osxdaily.com/2012/02/17/make-bootable-os-x-10-8-mountain-lion-usb-install -drive/ . If I install this new hard drive into my MacBook Pro, turn the computer on, and hold down the Option key, will I then be able to install Mac OS with this USB drive? If not, please explain the steps that I need to take in order to successfully install Mac OS onto a brand new hard drive.
P.S. I do not have the install disc from when I bought my computer.

You can use the USB drive you created previously to install OS X in your new hard disk. Also, you can use Internet Recovery, if you want to > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
After installing the hard disk and starting from the USB drive, follow the steps to reinstall OS X. If there isn't any partition on the hard disk, close the installer and open Disk Utility.
Then, choose the hard disk at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk. After erasing the disk, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X

• AS3.0 socket script doesn't work with flex coldfusion local server

I am having a real problem using my script in flex coldfusion

I created a class that goes and connect through a socket

• Flex Component Kit publish SWC not working with Flex 4

I started this thread in the Flex forum and they are telling me that the SWC's I'm creating with Flash Professional CS5 and Flex Component Kit 2.0.0 are not linked with FCC for Flex 4.
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/777789?tstart=0
That means the problem is with my Flash Professional CS5 setup instead of my Flash Builder 4 setup. Can someone here help me fix my Flash setup? As I described in that thread I can't find anything wrong with my setup but apparenty I'm generating SWC's for the wrong version of Flex.
Thanks,
Ryan

I unzipped my SWC and verified what Flex harUI in the Flex forum told me. My SWC seems to be linked with FCC 1 not FCC 2. I don't understand how this is possible. I am using Flash Professional CS5 and only FCC 2.0.0 is installed, FCC 1 is not even installed. Here are the contents of catalog.xml in my SWC file. How do I get Flash CS5 to generate an SWC for Flex 4?

• Datagrid and tooltip don't work with Flex 3 framework RSL

I have an application previously written in Flex 2.0.1. I've
recompiled it under Flex 3, and fixed any breaking changes, but I
now want to extract the framework as an RSL. I've tried 3.0.477 and
3.3 to no avail.
Problem is: when I compile the app with the framework "Merged
into Code", it works perfectly, looks beautiful.
When I compile it with the framework as an RSL, numerous
things go wrong:
- all Tooltips stop working, appearing as little empty
circles.
- Datagrids start behaving crazily - the headers won't appear
even with showHeaders=true and the headerText set for each column.
The columns all appear empty despite having valid data in the
dataprovider. I did manage to get one datagrid working by
specifying a custom ItemRenderer for each column, but a second
datagrid didn't work even with the itemrenderers.
I'm really at my wit's end with this. Anyone know why these
problems might be occurring?

This sounds like the same as http://forums.adobe.com/thread/922450

This is the error because the runtime does not find any way to call Java script that usally is called through External interface. So my guess is you are using a AIR project. U just need to download the latest swc http://code.google.com/p/facebook-actionscript-api/downloads/list for destop in your case and don't forget to but FBJSBridge.js to put in your source that will b used to help AS call Facebook API from AIR runtime
Hope it make some sense
