Cgi statistics gathering under 6.1 and Solaris 9

Hello all,
is it possible to log for cgi requests the value for handling each of the time spent on the request?
I see a lot of editable parameters in the 'Performance, Tuning and Scaling Guide' but can't figure out how to do that.
Once in a thread I read "...enable statistics gathering, then add %duration% to your access log format line".
I can't find the terminus %duration% in the guide, which parameter is taken?
Regards Nick

Hello elvin,
thanks for your reply. Now I think I managed to let the webserver log the duration of a cgi request, but I'm unsure how to interpret the value eg. in the access log I get
..."GET /cgi/beenden.cgi ... Gecko/20040113 MultiZilla/1.6.3.1d" 431710"
..."GET /pic.gif ... Gecko/20040113 MultiZilla/1.6.3.1d" 670"
so the last value corresponds to my %duration% in the magnus.conf.
431710 ... in msec? - makes no sense
670 ... in msec?
The complete string in magnus.conf reads as follows:
Init fn="flex-init" access="$accesslog" format.access="%Ses->client.ip% - %Req->vars.auth-user% [%SYSDATE%] \"%Req->reqpb.clf
-request%\" %Req->srvhdrs.clf-status% %Req->srvhdrs.content-length% \"%Req->headers.user-agent%\" \%duration%\""Regards Nick

  • Missing data in server monitor under linux and solaris

    Some metrics are not displayed in our environments, specifically under the statistics tab, request statistics, active coldfusion thread, we always have a zero line.  Also under memory usage, "cf threads by memory usage" is always empty.  I have all three buttons at the top checked so they are monitoring.  Is there something else I'm doing wrong?
    Environment 1 : dell2850->centos5->vmware->centos5->32bitJDK5->tomcat6->coldfusion8
    Environment 2 : sun5120->solaris10->64bitJDK5->tomcat6->coldfusion8
    I'm specifically wanting thread info to check if I should increase the defaults in CFIDE configuration.  Most everything on the server is being delivered faster now that we are using a 64bit JVM and have moved to solaris in production (from windows).  But there are some sections of our cfm logic that are taking much longer now (2000% longer)
    Thanks

    Hi all,
    does anyone can write some info why java Threads are
    recorded in the list of process (ps -ef) when you run
    on a Linux box, but not the same when you run on
    Solaris ? Which Thread support is more
    performant/stable that on Linux or that on Solaris?
    Thanks
    FrancescoLinux treats kernell threads as light weight processes and displays them as if they are actual processes - they of course are not, so the results of 'ps' can be misleading. Solaris fully differentiates between its three concepts of threads, lightweight processes and processes and 'ps' only shows actual processes.
    Both implementations in Linux and Solaris perform well.
    By the way, Solaris 8 has an optional, slightly different thread model than earlier versions of Solaris (in fact it is more like NT's) and that can be more efficient for JVM's or other multithreaded systems running on SMP systems. It can also be worse - your mileage may vary.

  • Dual Booting Windows and Solaris

    Hi
    how do i dual boot windows and solaris
    Do i install windows first and then solaris or do it the other way around..?
    how do i make sure that Windows and Solaris appear in my boot options..?
    Is their a guide on doing this...?
    Thanks
    Liam

    Hey I did a quick google search for you. So I havent tried this method myself but it sounds reasonable.
    The text below is from the following link:
    http://www.hccfl.edu/pollock/AUnix1/DualBoot.htm
    "Solaris boot loader
    Partition the drive to leave at least 2GB of space available for Solaris;
    more drive space is desirable.
    As with Linux, install Windows first then Solaris.
    Do not use the Installation CD but boot and install
    from Software CD 1.
    If you accept the default partitioning scheme which
    the installer provides you will soon run out of space in
    your / and /usr partitions since only enough space is
    allocated to install the system.
    All extra space is allocated to /export/home.
    A typical installation on a 4.5GB partition might look
    something like this:
    Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/dsk/c0d0s0 900M 536M 310M 64% /
    /dev/dsk/c0d0s1 334M 109M 192M 36% /var
    swap 671M 8.0k 671M 1% /var/run
    swap 671M 8.0k 671M 1% /tmp
    /dev/dsk/c0d0s5 845M 222M 565M 29% /opt
    # (FAT32 partition):
    /dev/dsk/c0d0p0:1 5.0G 3.3G 1.6G 66% /c
    /dev/dsk/c0d0s7 1.1G 92M 954M 9% /export/home
    /dev/dsk/c0d0s4 752M 225M 474M 33% /usr/local
    The Solaris boot selector enables you to choose either
    Solaris or Windows with Solaris as the default.
    (I prefer grub or lilo!)
    To mount FAT under Solaris:
    # mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c0d0p0:c /dos (or :1?)
    And the vfstab file:
    /dev/dsk/c0d0p0:c - /dos pcfs - yes -
    To create a GRUB boot floppy, follow these steps:
    $ mkfs -t ext2 /dev/fd0
    $ mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/fd0
    $ mkdir /mnt/fd0/boot /mnt/fd0/boot/grub
    $ cp /boot/grub/stage[12] /boot/grub/grub.conf \
    > /mnt/fd0/boot/grub
    $ /sbin/grub --batch <
    Hope this helps!

    I need to start services running in windows and solaris platforms with java code. I have a fair idea how to do in C++ . So wondering if same can be done with java. .. Please help me out!
    Thanx

    you may also like to look at the wrapper project on source forge. It lets you set up services under any O/S with full control of the JVM that is running.
    Btw my previous answer only helps you under MS, didn't notice that you wished to know how to do it under unix. If its a non-java service, you will need to determine what platform your on and then perform the appropriate action.

  • Statistics gathering

    Hello ,
    Every one I'm little confuse about "Statistics gathering" in ebs so I have some question in my mind which are following.
    kindly any one clear my concept about it.I really appreciate you.
    1.What is Statistics gathering ?
    2. What is the benefit of it?
    3.Can after this our ERP performance is better?
    one question is out this subject is that can If any one wanna APPS DBA then who must be DBA(oracle 10g,9i etc) or who only have a concept of oracle dba like backup,recovery,cloning etc.
    Regards,
    Shahbaz khan

    1.What is Statistics gathering ?
    Statistics gathering is a process by which Oracle scans some or all of your database objects (such as tables, indexes etc.) and stores the information in objects such as dbal_tables, dba_histograms. Oracle uses this information to determine the best execution path for statements it has to execute (such as select, update etc.)
    2. What is the benefit of it?
    It does help the queries become more efficient.
    3.Can after this our ERP performance is better?
    Typically, if you are experiencing performance issues, this is one of the first remedies.
    one question is out this subject is that can If any one wanna APPS DBA then who must be DBA(oracle 10g,9i etc) or who only have a concept of oracle dba like backup,recovery,cloning etc.I will let Hussein or Helios answer that question. They can offer a lot of helpful advice. You can also refer to Hussein's recent thread on a similar topic.

  • Setting of Optimizer Statistics Gathering

    I'm checking in my db setting and database is analysing each day. But as I notice there are a lot of tables that information shows last analysis in about month ago... Do I have to change some parameters?

    lesak wrote:
    I don't have any data that show you that my idea is good. I'd like to confirm on this forum that my idea is good or not. I've planned to make some changes to have better performance of query that read from top use tables. If this is bad solutions it's also important information for me.One point of view is that your idea is bad. That point of view would be to figure out what the best access for your query is and set that as a baseline, or figure out what statistics get you the correct plans on a single query that has multiple plans that are best with different values sent in through bind variables, and lock the statistics.
    Another point of view would be to gather current plans for currently used queries, then do nothing at all unless the optimizer suddenly decides to switch away from one, then figure out why.
    Also note the default statistics gathering is done in a window, if you have a lot of tables changing it could happen that you can't get stats in a timely fashion within the window.
    Whether the statistics gathering is appropriate may depend on how far off histograms are from describing the actual data distribution you see. What my be appropriate worry for one app may be obsessive tuning disorder for another. 200K rows out of millions may make no difference at all, or may make a huge difference if the newly added data is way off from what the statistics make the opitmizer think it is.
    One thing you are probably doing right is to recognize that tuning particular queries may be much more useful than obsessing over statistics.
    Note how much I've used the word "may" here.

  • Differences between Soalris and Solaris Express /Developer Edition

    Hi
    Thank you for readingn my post
    What is different between Solaris Express (Developer Edition) and solaris OS?
    Are they the same and with same capabilities?
    Can I install S1 Grid suite in a Express edition?
    Thanks

    Solaris 10 (with several updates) is the current release version of the Solaris operating system.
    Since the release in '05, Sun has been developing the "next" version of Solaris. Using the OpenSolaris code as a base, this version is codenamed "Nevada". Periodic builds of this version are available as Solaris Express. So you get more up-to-date drivers, features, and bugs from it. Because it's under development, there are no patches. Instead you'd need to upgrade to the next release (or create your own patch).
    I haven't looked specifically at S1 Grid, so it very likely will install. However installations on Solaris Express may not be a supported configuration if you need that.

    Okay so when I try to download apps on my phone a totally different Apple ID that I've never used before popped up. I've already tried settings under apps/iTunes and signed into my own apple account. But even doing so my apple Id won't show up

    Try this:
    Open the iTunes app, select the Music tab, then scroll all the way down to the bottom.  Here you can sign out of any current Apple ID and sign into a new one.  Good luck!
    And just in case there is another Apple ID linked to your account you can check at http://appleid.apple.com.

  • What does the open file dialog do 'under the hood' and is there a way to simulate it

    What does the open file dialog do 'under the hood' and is there a way to simulate it?
    I have a bug in my code (that I've posted about before, here) which I can't fix at the moment, but I do have a workaround.
    Briefly, the bug:
    I call a dll from a function node, to initialise and run a spectrometer. If I start up the PC, LabVIEW and run my vi the code runs without complaint, the first call to the dll to initialise the spectrometer doesn;t return an error but the spectrometer is not detected either.
    I've tried various solutions, see the link above, and none work
    The workaround:
    If, at any time before running the code containing the function node I open an 'open file' dialog window, select the dll and click ok/hit enter then everything is fine. When I run the main code the spectrometer is detected.
    I use an express vi to open the file dialog, I specify the start path and file name as constant inputs and just click ok/hit return when the dialog pops up. I don't do anything with the dialog outputs. In fact the vi that contains the open file dialog can be run before the project containing the bug is even open.
    I have to do this everytime I turn the PC on.
    So, either
    1) Can somewone suggest a fix for the original bug?
    2) What is the easiest way to simulate the enter keypress when the open file dialog pops up
    or
    3) Can someone tell me what the open file dialog does under the hood that somehow causes the dll to work and can it be simulated in straight LabVIEW
    I suspect that the dll itself is dodgy ( I have in the past talked to the supplier but not got very far, and I will try again but I would like a quick, temporary solution too). I'm guessing that the file dialog is making some kind of check on the file, and possibly registering its presence with the OS (winXP). I tried using the file/folder exists vi to see if checking the file like that worked but no luck.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Dave

    Hi David
    I am very conscious about thread hijacking but this sounded like my issue so I hope you dont mind me asking about your issue. I am hoping that you have a spectrometer from the same vendor as me and its not just me seeing an Error 1097 issue. My spectrometer is from a company called Stellarnet.
    So far I have unable to get it to work with other VIs. There is one condition where I can get it to work but its no good for me.
    Case 1
    I open the VI in a fresh labview environment with no other VIs in memory. The code runs with no issue.
    Case 2
    Labview is not opened. I double click the spectrometer VI in windows explorer.  The VI opens but it fails to run resulting in Error 1097. Personally, I dont see the difference between this and Case 1 above and yet it fails.
    Case 3
    If I already have other VI's in memory and try to load the spectrometer VI and run it fails with Error 1097. This case is the one that most important to me. I have a test executive that will load test VIs dynamically and I can't get this to work. Same problem Error 1097.
    I wanted to share what I have seen with you and to let you know that maybe somebody else has the same issue. I am convinced its the DLL but the vendor dis-agreed saying it was LabVIEW. I couldn't convince him otherwise.
    Thanks in advance
    David

    I had a MobileMe account before... after upgrading to iOS 5, should I keep my account info under iCloud (settings) AND under mail, contacts and calendars (in Settings as well) or only keep the info under the new iCloud setting section?

    That's not the correct port. It should be 993 for incoming.
    If you signed into iCloud from the System Preferences, it should automatically create the iCloud account for you in Mail. Sounds like it is an account you already had set up for MMe in Mail.
    Open Mail preferences, open the Accounts tab, disable that account in the advanced pane.
    Open Sys Prefs, open the iCloud tab, and sign out of iCloud. Then sign back in and see if a new iCloud account is automatically created.

  • Vista and Solaris 10, are they compatible?

    I have attempted to follow dual boot guides found everywhere, but none tailor specifically to (or eve mention) Vista. This is a problem, because Vista does not use the same method of boot as previous versions of NT.
    So far, in my many failed attempts at creating a Vista dual boot, I have experienced this:
    When I install Solaris 10 on any partition (Solaris installs correctly and works great), and then attempt to install Windows Vista, Vista says all of my partitions do not meet its requirements for installation (that the drive is NTFS and at least 12 GB is all it tells me). Even after formatting, deleting, recreating, and reformatting a drive, the drive is still unusable. Only after deleting ALL drives, including Solaris 10, and recreating and brand new first partition does Vista allow me to install. If I create a partition that Vista allows me to use, and also a partition to use with Solaris, and THEN install Solaris, the partition that Vista liked can no longer be used!
    When I install Windows Vista first (and it works fine) (which is what I tried first and reasoned is what I should be doing), and then install Solaris 10 on a partition (it installs correctlt and works great), I load up my computer and go into the GRUB bootloader. I can select Windows. However, when attempting to load windows, I get an error (in the Vista font by the way) that says my operating system cannot be loaded. When I load my Vista install disc, it cannot find any installations of windows, and it cannot repair the master boot record, saying something like the filesystem is corrupt. However, just as an experiment, I loaded Vista onto the former Solaris drive, and looked at my first partition. Every file was there, intact.
    I have attempted this with Windows Home Premium 32 bit, Windows Business 32 bit, and Vista Ultimate x64. I don't want to believe that it's impossible to load Vista and Solaris simultaneously, I've seen as much stating its impossibility as I've seen documents telling me how to do it (<- cold irony).
    As long as I can get AN INSTALLATION of Solaris 10 on my machine at the same time I have Vista able to boot, I'm fine, but I seem to have lost on all fronts.
    Edited by: ZetaZeta on Sep 19, 2007 12:30 AM

    In Solaris Express, this is not an issue, according to this weblog:
    http://blogs.sun.com/moinakg/entry/solaris_vista_dual_boot_conclusion
    For versions of Solaris Express prior to buid 70, this method was described for creating a dual-boot with the oh-too-picky Windows Vista:
    http://linux.wordpress.com/2007/02/17/vista-and-solaris-express-dual-boot/
    I am going to assume that setting up a dual-boot with Solaris 10 is similar to, if not the same as, Solaris Express, since the only steps specific to Solaris are the files I copy from Solaris.
    I hope this helps anyone else with a problem similar to mine.

    Install Windows first, then Solaris {not the other way round}. When Solaris installer detects Windows installation and prompts you whether to preserve Windows partition, make sure to select 'preserve' option. I believe Solaris installer creates appropriate GRUB entries for Windows and Solaris. Even if it doesn't, you can always edit the GRUB menu after the installation is complete.
    Check the following web site if you need detailed instructions:
