Change backend system of portal

Hi,
We want our EP7 portal to point to a different backend system. We want no references to the old backend system.
I know the following steps:
1) create new system
2) Change the Webdynrpo Jco connections
Please let me know the other steps that needs to be taken care off while changing the backend system?
Thanks,
Antar

No other steps needed. It is fine.
Once you delete the old system then you can test it by creating a SAP Transaction iview
during the creation it will give you a drop down of all system aliases in the portal.

  • Could not connect to backend system through portal via Web Dispatcher

    Web dispatcher redirecting problem
    Dear Experts,
    I have implemented a scenario which comprised of customizing that is developed in Portal EP7. What customizing does is getting report from backend system (ERP 6.0)
    According to the needs for reaching the portal from internet I configured the SAP Web Dispatcher in the environment as you may see its contents below.
    The problem is when I run the customizing in portal system then it requires connecting to backend system (ECC 6.0) to get the data (report). But from this point on web browser comes to a blank page, could not view the data that is from backend system via portal. Because in the time when it tries to retrieve data in backend system, on the left bottom of the explorer the indicator shows internet address that system uses connecting to the backend system as local network address of the backend system which is not known in internet therefore I get blank page.
    The question is how to configure the web dispatcher in a way that both portal and backend systems could be reachable from internet?
    Contents of profile file of Web Dispatcher as;
    SAPSYSTEMNAME = WDP
    SAPGLOBALHOST = portald
    SAPSYSTEM = 02
    INSTANCE_NAME = W02
    DIR_CT_RUN = $(DIR_EXE_ROOT)\$(OS_UNICODE)\NTAMD64
    DIR_EXECUTABLE = $(DIR_CT_RUN)

    Hi,
    To resovle this you must have registered FQDN for your backend system as well. When you call the report from Portal using internet it should call that FQDN of your backend system then DNS will resolve this & you will get the expected page. This way only you can resolve this issue.

  • Reaching backend systems through portal is a problem via dispatcher--

    Hi Experts,
    I am having problem when I try to reach backend systems through the portal from internet. I have configured WebDispacher according to information taken from help.sap.com, but unfortunately the result is not satisfactory. Reaching Portal EP7.0 from internet is successful, but when I changed to iviews that are referring to backend systems then browser comes to a blank page with error. If any of you having an idea on the subject that will much be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ali Taner

    Hi Hari,
    I am sorry that it has been a bit sharp response from my side, but I am confused with what you mentioned. Is the Alias that you mentioned reside on R3 side or Portal side that I should look for, and secondly the Alias should address to local URL or External URL? In my understanding if Alias referring to local URL address than it gets error when somebody tries to reach from internet because local address is not known on the internet. I really appreciate your kind help

    Hi,
    Are you using any webdispatcher or some proxy? Is there any URL filter configured in between?
    If yes then I think you have to allow these pages.

  • Changing Backend system

    Hi,
    SRM 4.0 , Classic scenario , BE system - R/3 4.7 E.
    Because of business scenario, I want to change my back-end system.I want to know the implications of changing BE system on existing master data & transactional data.
    Also let me know whether it is advisable to do this or not? if yes what care I have to take.
    Pravin

    Hello Pravin,
    when the product masters are created in SRM from the downloaded business objects 'material' , SRM passes a GUID to backend.
    With every product masters the logical system is assigned the backend from which you downloaed the business objects.
    Also in all integration settings also the SID of yr original backend would be mentioned.
    That definitely you will have to change.
    There should not be any problem if you are doing all your integration settings carefully and download the customizing and business objects again from new backend.
    Then SRM will start talking to new backend.
    Remember you will have to take care for references in Org structure also.
    There is a provision in SRM to work with seperate backend depending on product categories.(just thought you can think in that way also.)

  • Failure to connect to backend system in Portal

    Hi Experts,
    I was hoping someone could help, quickly!!
    We are having an issue with transporting our VC model.  We are on VC 7.0 SP17
    I created a model in our development environment using a variable input form and adding the value help feature.  After we deploy in our dev environment the model looks perfect!!!
    We transported the VC model as an iview through the portal and we get a Failure to connect to back end system error.  We ruled out that it is not a transport problem using the portal.
    Can someone help!!
    Thanks so much, Anna

    Hi Again,
    Thanks for both of your response, however, there is nothing in the log files andt we still have the Application error message, failure to connect to backend system.
    We were able to bypass the error and the model starts to "semi-function" - but we cannot access the characteristic through value help, we just get empty drop downs.   We all have the proper authorization in BI....
    Do you think there is a permission problem in the back end portal?
    Hopefully you can help.
    Thanks so much, Anna

  • Can't connect to a SAP backend system via portal/web dynpro/JCo destination

    Scenario:
         Can't successfully set the JCo destination.. Always got a Java exception..
    Solution:
         Use the router string "/H/sapserv3/S/3296/H/", instead of
    "/H/sapserv3.wdf.sap.corp/S/3296/H/".
         This looks like a bug in portal NW2004s SP9.

    Sorry for the delay, but I was not able to get access to this system until this afternoon.  I ran the ARP command you suggested on the server, and it did return the correct IP and MAC address values for the problem workstation.
    I then ran IPCONFIG/displaydns on the server.  There was a record there for the problem workstation.  The "record name" matched the machine name correctly.  However, the "A <Host> Record" value was for the wrong IP address (192.168.1.4
    rather than the actual workstation IP of 192.168.1.7).  This could certainly explain why I am not able to RWA/RDP to the machine by name, although I can make an internal RDP connection via IP address.
    Could you please tell me what I need to do to repair this problem?  Should I run IPCONFIG/flushdns on the server?
    Thanks again for your assistance.

  • Impact on shopping cart due to change in backend system

    Hi All,
    Our client is changing the backend ECC5 system to ECC6 on new server (new logical sys) with FI restructring in ECC6.
    We have SRM4.0 system ( with CCM on same client) with Extended classic scenario.
    What will be impact on Shopping carts which are awaiting for approval or in Held status( used by client as template) .There is only product category and vendor and no material number in Shopping cart  from catalog.
    As the product categories and vendors are same in ECC6 also , during cutover can the shopping cart with held/open status  be posted after changing backend system, Or we need to upload it.
    Any thoughts on this please.
    Best regards,
    Avinash

    Hi Laurent,
    In ECC6 ,consolidation of many company codes  to single company code will happen, whereas in SRM as there is only one backend purchasing org we need to map this with new backend purchasing org of ECC6.0(which is unique for SRM)
    As per my understanding, as backend system change we need to replicate same product categories from ECC6 to SRM4.0 as SRM creates GUIDs for backend product categories and passes a sych GUID in ECC also.
    Will the existing shopping carts in Held/open condition get processed which had been already created with old Product categories and vendor details (which are replicated from ECC5) when backend system changed to ECC6
    Is this applicable for open purchase orders also as company code consolidates in ECC6. Do we need to close open PO or upload open with change data?
    Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Avinash

  • How to create 'system' in Portal for backend

    Hi Basis Gurus,
    Please let me know how to create a 'system' for a backend system in Portal 'system administration'       --> 'system configuration' --> 'system landscape'.

  • Impact on Portal if changing IP address of backend systems ?

    Hi,
    Slightly different scenario to the usual "change of ip" address questions.
    We have an EP6 Portal used for SSO access to backend R/3, CRM, BW systems.
    Does anyone know the impact on the Portal side if the IP address is changed for the backend systems only ?
    The Portal system IP address will not change.
    The changes requires on the backend systems is already known about,
    as they are addressed in notes: 88346, 403708, 757692.
    From browsing the forums, I am expecting the Portal will need a restart because
    the JVM caches IP addresses.
    Refer: Controlling DNS caching in the Java Virtual Machine (i.e. J2EE WAS)
    Is there likely to be an impact on SSO, or anything else on the Portal side ?
    Many thanks,
    Andres

    Hi Andres,
    No problem with the SSO and other details.
    But you have to change the hosts file and map the servername with the new IP address.
    The path for the host file in windows environment is /drivers/etc/hosts.
    Here you have to map the new IP with the corresponding server name.
    Other than this everything will work properly.
    If you are unable to change the hosts file then in the system object of the portal in the connector property set the server name to the new IP address. Everything will work properly. We had this problem and solved this.
    Regards
    Arun

  • Creating a system in portal with multiple instances of backend sys

    Hi all,
             I am creating a system in the portal to my backend system(ECC6.0 with integrated ITS).I had a multiple instance backend system.The 2 instances are on two different boxes .The 2 instances have different ip addresses and hostnames.At a time only one instance will be active.We have a virtual ip and hostname for the Central instance.
    In this case how to create the system so that the portal can switch from one instance to other while it is changed at the backend.
    The major issue is how to fill the ITS properties while creating the system.Which hostname I have to give.
    First instance hostname : eccprd1.XXXXXX.com
    Second instance hostname :eccprd2.XXXXXX.com
    Vitual hostname of central instance : eccsap.XXXXX.com
    Any suggestions please.
    Thanx and Regards,

    Hi,
    You can use the Dynamic Link Library SAPSSOEXT
    Check out this link.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/12/9f244183bb8639e10000000a1550b0/content.htm
    This should be applicable to any intended scenario.
    Summary of Steps
    1. Download file
    2. create application as shown in sample file.
    3. Import verify.der and install it in your local server , in the place specified in your application(.NET)
    4. Run the planned scenario. The page(.NET Page) that will be initially accessed from SAP Portal should run your program or have that code , so that it can authenticate it without requesting userid and password.

  • Web Dispatcher - Portal & Backend systems load balancing

    Good Day,
    I am currently in the process of setting up a web dispatcher for the Backend systems via the Portal.
    I have already installed a web dispatcher to handle the Portal load balancing and this works perfect.
    The SAP system landscape will be created using load balancing, currently it is set to Dedicated.
    Question:
    Do i change the ITS and WAS settings to point to the web dispatcher or leave them currently pointing to the backend systems?
    ITS = hostname :8000
    WAS = hostname : 8000
    Many thanks,
    Morgan Moodley

    Hi Morgan,
    You point them at the web dispatcher.
