I have a new computer and the old one is no longer avail. When I plug in my phone to sync I am told I have to plug it into the old computer to do this. How do I change the computer on my phone so that I can sync it?

If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. The transfer of purchased content to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7, look under under File>"Transfer Purchases from iPod". A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting to your new computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

I bought a second hand mac mini. My system says there is an update available but when i want to download it uses the apple account of the previous owner. It not possible to type another e-mauiladrees in this field. How can i change this?

The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. Changes made by Apple over the years have made this seemingly straightforward task very complex.
How you go about it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
It's unsafe, and may be unlawful, to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
1. If you don't own another Mac
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received those media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Some models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you may not be able to reinstall 10.6 even from the original discs, and Internet Recovery may not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
2. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
3. Partition and install OS X
a. If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
b. Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
c. An unusual problem may arise if all the following conditions apply:
OS X 10.7 or later was installed by the previous owner
The startup volume was encrypted with FileVault
You're booted in Recovery mode (that is, not from a 10.6 installation disc)
In that case, you won't be able to unlock the volume or partition the drive without the FileVault password. Ask for guidance or see this discussion.
d. After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
e. Run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.
4. Other issues
a. If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
b. If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
c. When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an iCloud account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. The setup limit doesn't apply to Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as the iTunes and Mac App Stores, or iMessage. You can create as many of those accounts as you like.

What OS is on your Mini? What year/model is the Mini? The seller should have reinstalled the OS that came with the Mini instead of just selling it to you as is.
Once you determine the OS, you can erase your Mini's Macintosh HD and reinstall the OS which will allow you to setup your own account during the Setup process.

ID change fails for updates

I recently changed my apple id. On my iphone, I signed out and logged in with the new id. This works fine till I try to update my apps. The update is still listing my old id. Why? How can I correct this?

When you reset your password at https://iforgot.apple.com it should send you a verification email to the email address associated with that Apple ID. If this isn't working for you try contacting iTunes store support at

Changing computers for iPhone & iPad

Hey everybody - I need some help with computer swapping!! I will be moving out of my house soon and the computer that my iPhone is synced to is a family desktop that I can't take with me. My brothers phones are also synced to this computer. I just got an iPad and decided to set it up through my laptop. Is there any easy way to sync my phone to my laptop so I don't lose any information? Or do I need to set it up as a new phone and totally re-download all my apps? I also have an iPod that I sync with the family desktop that needs to be synced with the laptop. Any help anyone could give me would be great! Thanks!

If you have a icloud scinc that before you do ANYTHING!!! I learned that the hard way, the you need to download iunes one your new computure and then sign in and plug in your Ipod. It will sinc automattical so you wil not have to do much. If this does not work one of two things will happen. 1) nothng will sinc or be changed 2) everything will delete. If the first happenes then get a profestional Apple tech to contact you through phone and they will walk you though the steps for free here https://expresslane.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action. If the sencond happens Follow these steps Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings-> Continue. This will reset it to when you first got the Ipod. When you continue with your starting prosses it will ask you for you iCloud information, this is what will get you all your apps, songs, videos, ext. back onto your itouch. After get help by the Apple tech. Hope this helps!!

Want to change computers for my iphone

I have my iphone syncing up with my pismo computer the moment. I saw the new version of iTunes 9 and I want to move my iphone over to my mac book pro notebook.
I obviously don't want to lose anything on either itunes or my iphone. Therefore, could someone point me to an article on how to move my iphone from my pismo G3 to my mac book pro. thanks.

You have to move everything from one computer to the other, then sync.
Migration assistant can do this, you can use your back up for this.

I have problem i need change ID for updates and I can't use old ID my IPat givin by company and previous ID one off the ex workers so you can see that I can't use old ID for updates because I don't know password any India how to change to mine ID as p3jreilly I change every where else but updates still giving old ID.

Items obtained from the iTunes Store are PERMANENTLY associated with the Apple ID originally used to obtain them. Updates REQUIRE that you enter the password for that ID. From the words in your post, it appears that you do not own those apps. Your only choice is to delete the apps and purchase them using your own ID.

The simplest method is to run a defaults command on the client Macs (easily pushed via Apple Remote Desktop):
defaults write com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL 'HTTP_URL_FOR_CATALOG'
for a user. If you run it via sudo it will set it for whenever you use softwareupdate as root.
The HTTP_URL_FOR_CATALOG has been changed with Mac OS X 10.6. If you use MCX it will automatically pick the new catalog – however if doing it manually the following URLs need to be used for whichever client version is in question:
Mac OS X 10.4: http://mysus.example.com:8088/index.sucatalog
Mac OS X 10.5: http://mysus.example.com:8088/index-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog.sucatalog
Mac OS X 10.6: http://mysus.example.com:8088/index-leopard-snowleopard.merged-1.sucatalog
Mac OS X 10.7: http://mysus.example.com:8088/index-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog
Mac OS X 10.8: index-mountainlion-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog
To double check this applied you can run the following command:
/usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c Print /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
and /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c Print ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
to see what settings are for the computer and user appropriately.
If this is working correctly when running Software Update (GUI) you should see the server address appear in parenthesis in the title of the window.

Another alternative is to use Workgroup Manager to manage the preferences via MCX from your server. This can be done for users, or for computers if they are bound to your Open Directory.
If you are using 10.5 Server or newer: you can simply use the Software Update section under Preferences.
Manually:
Choose the accounts, computers, or groups to have the preference applied to.
Click on Preferences, and then the Details tab
Press the Add… button and navigate to /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
Press Edit…
Under Often, add a New Key and enter the name CatalogURL
Make sure the type is string and then enter your SUS URL (eg. http://mysus.example.com:8088/index.sucatalog or if using 10.6: http://mysus.examle.com:8088/ – see above from the defaults section)
Press Apply Now, then Done. Once users/computers have refreshed their MCX settings (usually the next login or restart) the new settings will take over.
If this is working correctly when running Software Update (GUI) you should see the server address appear in parenthesis in the title of the window.
In order to have a system-wide configuration one has to run the following:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL "http://your.updates-server.lan:8088/index.sucatalog"
In order to correctly work both on Leopard and Snow Leopard the right command to issue is:
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL "http://your.updates-server.lan:8088/index-leopard-snowleopard.merged-1.sucatalog"
Happily used and tested on my network
The DNS trick that Chealion points out is fantastic. I use it at our office, and every computer on our LAN will automatically pull the updates from the local repository at high speed without any configuration.
Create the swscan.apple.com DNS zone on your internal DNS server, and have it resolve via an A record to your Mac

I have a Nano, where I changed computers and moved my library. Now my nano doesn't recognize the location or the song on the nano. How do I update my library so the nano will recognize.

I have an IPOD Nano. I had it originally set up on another computer where I would down load my songs that I purchased from ITunes. My Nano would sync up with my PC when I would plug it in. I had to change computers, so I moved all my songs / library to my new PC. I downloaded the ITunes process to my new PC and then purchased a song. I saw the song in my download area of my PC under ITunes Media / downloads. However, my nano would not sync as it is still referencing the prior location, which was on my old PC. I moved the song directly to the Nano when it was plugged in. I see the song on the Nano directory when I have it plugged in to the PC via the USB cable. I even click on the song and I hear it play from the Nano on the PC. However, when I go to look for the song directly from my song listing from the Nano music screen, it doesn't list he song or the artist as being on the Nano.
I have tried to follow the online instructions for erase and sync the old library to the new, but that doesn't happen. Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong in moving from one PC to another. Seems to me this should be a much simplier process. But I find working with Apple products they are all harder to deal with. I would appreciate your help.

I am not doing it in ITunes, but i did down load the song from ITunes. I loaded the song on to my Nano, but in my menu selections it doesn't show the song or the artist in any search format. However, when i plug in my nano to my PC I see the Nano library on my PC drive listings and that song and artist are there. I can click on the song and it will play in Windows media on my work PC. I did notice that the format for most all the songs in my library on my Nano are MPEG - 4 audio Files.

Similar problem just happened to me with the Creative Cloud Update 1.7.1.418—slightly different so I thought I'd share. I have multiple Adobe Creative Cloud programs installed on my computer, all working just fine. I updated the Cloud App to the latest version and then it shows me that I have only one program installed! All my previously installed programs (Photoshop and the like) still work but show as "install" instead of "Up to date". Initially I thought I'd have to re-install the Cloud app or recreate the OPM data base but then I noticed that some of the Cloud app preferences (Apps > Settings > App Language) were different to what I had set previously. I use English (International) language, the update had reverted the app back to English (North American). I flicked back to my previous language and bam, all my apps now show as being installed correctly.

Of course You can also add your iPhone telephone # as a trusted device.
This way when you insert your SIM card into any phone, Apple will automatically recognize your cell phone # as a
trusted device (may be handy if iphone breaks but you insert SIM card into another phone).
HOWEVER:
Having also your iPhone as a trusted device, is convenient if you travel and use a different SIM card
at destination. This way you can still use the iphone for verification, even though you are using a different
phone #.
