  • Changing login picture

I want to use a photo from my iphoto library for my login picture. When ever I go through system preferences I can't choose from there. Please help!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
To use a photo stored on iPhoto as your login picture, follow these steps:
    1. Open System Preferences > Users & Groups and select your user in the sidebar.
    2. Open iPhoto and select the photo you want to use as your login picture.
    3. Drag this photo from iPhoto to your login picture box on System Preferences, so a popup will appear to adjust the photo and use it as your login picture

  • Change login picture to match desktop picture

    In Leopard
I want to create a script that will set the login screen background to be the same image as my desktop picture. It will be easy to SET the new login background because all you have to do to change the login screen background picture is change the file
    /System/Library/CoreServices/DefaultDesktop.jpg
What I need to find out is how to GET the current desktop picture.
Does anybody have any idea how to do this part of it?
    Thanks.

Run the following from the Script Editor, which is in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder:
    tell application "Finder"
    desktop picture
    end tell
If you want to add the code to a shell script, use:
osascript -e 'tell application "Finder"' -e 'set the_pic to get desktop picture as alias' -e 'end tell' -e 'POSIX path of the_pic'

  • Is It Possible To Change The Background Login Picture ?

At the moment my background login picture is "Aurora" which appears in HD>Library>Desktop Pictures.
I gave another picture that name (and altered the original's) but whenever I access the login screen the original picture is still there.
Is it possible to change it ?
NOTE: I am referring to the Login Window which is accessed via my name at the end of the menu bar next to Spotlight.

Sorry ....... I discovered how to do it here:-

  • Change background picture @ login

Is there some way I can change that background picture at the Login Screen? ie. i want to change the purplish login picture to some other picture. Does anyone know how to do that?

I suggest you use this method
    http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/macosxhints/2007/11/loginbkgnd2/index.php
it does not involve changing any system files.

  • Login picture changed

On the start up screen my login picture changed, all on it's own!!! I've had a lot of the spinning wheel of
death, could this be part of the problem.  I tried to do a safe mode start up but you have to hold down the
Shift Key when you hear the start up tone...I have no tone  : (
Any thoughts ideas, my Apple Care expired less than 30 days ago (of course) and they won't let me
    purchase it again...grrrr.

Restart the computer and hold down the Command and R keys. Forget the tone. When you get to the Recovery partition, run Disk Utility and  choose Repair Disk. See if that runs successfully or comes back with problems.

  • How do you change the picture when logging in

I want to change the picture / Icon when I log in.  How do I do that?

    Changing your user account icon
Your user account icon appears in the Login window when you log in (if your Mac isn't set to automatically log you in), and is used as your contact portrait unless you change it. When you first set up your user account, you have the opportunity to select a picture to use as your icon. You can also change the icon whenever you want, as described below.
You can use one of the included icons, drag in a custom image, or take a snapshot with your Mac's camera
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
Click Users & Groups (click Accounts in Mac OS X v10.6).
To the left of the "Change Password" button is a pop-up menu that shows your current account icon. Click it to choose a different icon, or to use your Mac's camera to take a snapshot to use as an icon. You can also simply drag a picture to the menu
If desired, crop and reposition the new icon.
When satisfied, click Done to make the change.

  • Trouble changing account picture

I'm having some trouble with the "Picture" tab in the "Accounts" system preference.
Problem #1: It allows me to make changes whether the lock is open or closed.
Problem #2: If I change the picture using the "Edit..." button, whether the lock is open or closed, the change doesn't stick. When I change to another tab and change back, the old picture is there. The only way to make a change that sticks is to select a picture from the Apple Pictures provided.
Is this a bug in the software, something screwy on my system, or something I'm doing incorrectly?

It looks like the problem was a permissions problem. I had this problem when I did a User Migration to a new computer.
Here's how to fix the problem:
    1. Create a new account (I created one called "Temp")
    2. Make sure "Allow user to administer this computer" is checked for this new Temp user.
    3. Login using the new Temp user.
    4. Go into System Preferences > Accounts and select the account that is giving you problems. (You may have to click the unlock icon first)
    5. Choose the Picture tab for the problem account and click on the "Edit..." button.
    6. If you have an iSight camera, click "Take a Video Snapshot" or choose a photo if you do not have an iSight. DO NOT choose a picture from the Recent Pictures drop down.
    7. Click on the Set button. This temporary picture should save correctly.
    8. Logout of your Temp account and log back into your real account.
    9. You should now be able to save your picture changes. Select a picture and see if it works.
    10. Remove your Temp account by selecting the Temp account in the list and click on the negative button.

  • TA24960 I did this but it didn't change my picture on my new MBPro-Retina.  What do I need to do to get this to stick?

Follow the usual instructions to change the login picture but it's still stuck on the one I took when I first logged into this machine.
    Any other ideas?

Might try editing it in Address Book, if you haven't.
Did you reboot or log out/in after the change?

  • Workgroup Manager and Login Picture

I would like to manage the login screen picture from Workgroup Manager (the 'DefaultDesktop.jpg'). I know where to change the picture in CoreServices. I am looking for a solution where I do not have to touch all computers in the building in order to change this setting.

I suggest you ask in the Leopard Server forum.

  • Custom account login picture?

How do you go about changing your account login picture on OS X Mountain Lion to a different image other than the ones supplied?

Select your account in the Users and Grouops pane of System Preferences. Click on your current account photo on the right side of the screen. In the dropdown that shows up, you can use the sidebar to choose faces and recents from iPhoto, or take a picture using the built in FaceTime camera. Another alternitive is to drag the new photo on top of the old one, and it will replace it.

  • Login picture not sticking

I've changed from a 1st gen MBP to a latest gen one. Transferred all from the old to the new via firewire during the initial setup.
    All is working OK.
BUT: when I want to change the login picture of my account (admin and only one) I can change it but it doesn't stick, i.e. it does not change the picture on the left list where the users are.
This should be a nobrainer but I can't get it working.
    What is happening here????
    Please advise

That's because your login picture isn't actually saved in your own user's home directory. It's in a rather odd place -- not sure why Apple did it this way, but here's the solution:
    You'll find it lives here:
    Macintosh HD -> Library -> Caches -> com.apple.user501picture.Cache.tiff
Note that '501' is the Unix userID number of the first user account created on the box. If you have more than one user, then you'll find more than one file (e.g. a 'com.apple.user502picture.Cache.tiff', etc.). Since you used the account migration utility when you first set it up then your accounts will have identical Unix user ID numbers on each machine (you wont need to worry about renaming them).
Just copy the file from the old machine to that same location on the new machine. You may have to reboot after the copy before the picture shows up.
What I find really odd about this is that it lives in a folder named 'Caches'. A 'Cache' is, by definition, not authoritative (e.g. it implies that the real data lives somewhere else), but I ran into this same issue and have scoured my hard drive in search of another location and this is the only one. Also... the folks at the local Apple Genius Bar report the same thing (this is the only place it's stored).
Some these kids... "Bad Apple Software Engineer! NO BISCUIT!" =)

  • Login Picture

I just got the macbook, I transfered almost all my data from my mini to the laptop. But for some reason I can't seem to change my login picture to any picture on my laptop. It only lets me select the "apple pictures." I can't seem to figure out why. Not a big deal but I just wanted to see if anyone had an idea why this is happening.

Worst case you can place your 48 x 48 user picture into…
    /Library/User Pictures/
… and it will appear in the list like the other Apple supplied pictures. I would create a folder like "My Pictures" or something in there to keep yours together but as you like, as long as it's in there somewhere.

  • My Macbook Pro is frozen on the login page with a white screen and only my login picture. How do I fix this? I can't turn it off and I closed it and let it charge but it's still not working.

My Macbook Pro is frozen on the login page with a white screen and only my login picture. How do I fix this? I can't turn it off and I closed it and let it charge but it's still not working. It's only 3 months old and was working perfectly fine 30min before this happened.

    Hello Kierasully,
I would start your troubleshooting with the article below for issues of not being able to log in to your Mac. Start with booting up in to Safe Boot as well as resetting PRAM on your Mac. If that does not work, then verify the hard drive with booting to the Recover HD and go to Disk Utility to verify it.
