Change Oracle's start of week to Sunday

Hi,
I am using Oracle 10g R10.2.0.3.0.
I would like to change the beginning of week in Oracle from Monday to Sunday. Given below is my NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS:
NLS_LANGUAGE------------------------AMERICAN
NLS_TERRITORY-----------------------AMERICA
NLS_CURRENCY------------------------$
NLS_ISO_CURRENCY--------------------AMERICA
NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTE----------------.,
NLS_CHARACTERSET--------------------UTF8
NLS_CALENDAR------------------------GREGORIAN
NLS_DATE_FORMAT---------------------DD-MON-RR
NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE-------------------AMERICAN
NLS_SORT----------------------------BINARY
NLS_TIME_FORMAT---------------------HH.MI.SSXFF AM
NLS_TIMESTAMP_FORMAT----------------DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM
NLS_TIME_TZ_FORMAT------------------HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
NLS_TIMESTAMP_TZ_FORMAT-------------DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
NLS_DUAL_CURRENCY-------------------$
NLS_COMP----------------------------BINARY
NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS----------------BYTE
NLS_NCHAR_CONV_EXCP-----------------FALSE
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET--------------UTF8
NLS_RDBMS_VERSION-------------------10.2.0.3.0
Example of the issue I am trying to resolve:
desc my_table:
EVENT_TIME     TIMESTAMP(6)
query:
SELECT EVENT_TIME, to_char(EVENT_TIME, 'iw') WEEK_NUM
FROM MY_TABLE
returns:
EVENT_TIME               WEEK_NUM
11-NOV-09 09.52.43.000000000 AM     46
10-NOV-09 07.58.32.000000000 AM     46
09-NOV-09 08.49.49.000000000 AM     46
08-NOV-09 10.20.18.000000000 PM     45
07-NOV-09 12.20.38.000000000 AM     45
06-NOV-09 11.55.53.000000000 PM     45
Since 08-NOV-09 10.20.18.000000000 PM, is a Sunday, I would like to see a new WEEK_NUM associated to it. Start of the week should be Sunday 12:00 AM and end of week, Saturday 11:59 PM.
Thank you in advance.
Best,
Anil.

Hi, Anil,
ISO weeks always begin on Monday, regardless of NLS settings. You can't change that.
You can equate Sundays with the following ISO week by adding 1 to all dates
SELECT EVENT_TIME, to_char(EVENT_TIME + 1, 'iw') WEEK_NUMwhich may be good enough for your purposes.
What are your purposes? What do you need to do?
If you need to group Sunday-through-Saturday weeks, then
TRUNC (event_time, 'd')will use the week depending on NLS_TERRITORY. For America, that means weeks start on Sunday, and the expression above will always be midnight on some Sunday.
Regardless of NLS settings,
TRUNC (event_time + 1, 'iw') - 1is the last Sunday on or before event_time.

who says British calendars start on Monday? Someone isolated in Cupertino?
Nope, nothing to do with Cupertino.
The International Organization for Standardization, in ISO 8601, defines the week as being Monday to Sunday. The British Standards Institution agrees, as do European Standards.
So, Apple are just following international, European and British agreed standards.

Dear Apple - as the day that the week starts on can depend on country and religion - how about making it an option that the user can change????

I believe the week view on the iPhone is handled by the Region settings in the phone. I am not aware of any other manner to change it, as you can with Outlook.

  • Change Starting Day of the Week to Sunday

    Hi,
DBMS_SCHEDULER is assuming that Monday is the starting day of the week.
Can this behavior be changed ? I need Sunday to the be starting day of the week.
    Regards,
    Salim

So to start at 8am on sunday :
    start_date => next_day(trunc(sysdate),'Sunday') + 8/24OR
    begin
    dbms_scheduler.create_schedule
    (schedule_name => 'INTERVAL_DAILY_800',
    start_date => next_day(trunc(sysdate),'Sunday') + 8/24,
    repeat_interval=> 'FREQ=DAILY; BYDAY= SUN,MON,TUE,WED,THU,FRI,SAT; BYHOUR=08;',

  • How do I get my Calendar to start the week fr Monday instead of Sunday?

On my Macbook Pro, I am able to set my Calendar to start on Monday which appears farthest left.  However, on my iPhone (and iPad), the Calendar starts on the default Sunday and I don't see any settings to change that.  Can anyone help?

Thanks for the tip, Mactagg.  Yes, it's infuriating.
My settings are for Singapore and we follow the British system, yet the Calendar still starts from Sunday which makes me wonder why Apple decided that the UK Calendar should start from Monday...
True, although there are plenty of good stuff about Apple, it seems that perhaps some middle manager somewhere has screwed certain features up such as Bluetooth which is horrible but that's for another story and thread...
I will still stick to Singapore settings as it affects my phone number settings.

  • How do you change the day of the week on your calender starts on

How do you change the day of the week your calender starts on??

You would have to change the region settings to a country whose formatting starts the week on the day you like:

  • How can I create a new calendar that starts the week on monday?

Excel can do it, but I really like the template for calendars in numbers. That calendar is for printing it, so i don't need any special functionalities, only the template, with blank cells i can hand-write in.
    Thanks!

    Hi And95es,
The Calendar template is very clever. Changing it to start on Monday would be a huge task. Here is an idea for a non-automatic calendar. Start with a table for month and year. Hide the table name if you like.
A1 is a pop-up menu to choose a month. Type the year in B1.  I am trying to come up with a formula to show the day of the week for that month and year in B2. This is because you will have to type a 1 into the correct day in the calendar table to generate dates for the whole month.
Create an  outline calendar like this:
    A2 contains the number 1
    B2=A2+1 and fill right
    A4=G2+1
    B4=A4+1 and Fill Right.
Now select Row 4 and copy.
Paste into every second row below.
Format the table to make cells big enough to write in. Save as Template because you are about to make a calendar and you will need the template for next month.
Type a 1 into the cell that is the first of that month. Now clear contents of cells you don't need.
It would be handy to have a formula to show weekday for the first of the month. Not essential!

    Ian.

  • Rollover 18 weeks starting from week number of current month

    Hi,
I have a requirement as described below.
    Table Name Time:
Columns: Fiscal Year, Fiscal Month and Fiscal Week
above table has join with sales table and it contain sales data on week basis. so least granularity of data at week level.
we have a report with columns fiscal year, actual sales and forcast sales. our requirement is to filter the data with following criteria.
    Current Month Filter
Jan fiscal week between 1-18 of current year
Feb fiscal week between 5-23 of current year
March fiscal week between 9-27 of current year
November fiscal week between week 44 of current year and week 10 of next year
    December
so with above requirement we need to filter data with rollover 18 weeks starting from week number of current month
I tried with timestampadd(sql_tsi_week, interval, week) but it's not working as I expacting. Please provide the code/logic to get it done.
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks
    Jay.

It's very hard to answer specific questions without the required information. To answer a question like this we need a minimum of:
    1. Oracle version
    2. Sample data (CREATE TABLE / INSERT statements)
    3. Expected output
    4. Explanation of business rules.

  • My phone battery can only last an hour. Problem started a week ago while I was in Argentina. I am back in the country now, this morning I left the house with a full battery and when I got to work the phone had shut down. Phone is 7 months old. Why?

    Dear Apple Family,
I have been using an iPhone since I lost interest with Nokia phones. I fell in love with Apple's innovation, design and technology.  However, I am beginning to lose interest wth the product as well.
I have an iPhone 5, my phone's battery can only last an hour and the phone is 7 month old.  The problem started last week while I was in Argentina. I had a bad holiday due to this, as I could not make use of the technology because my phone was off most of the time and I had nowehere to charge except to go back to the hotel.  I could not even share pictures on Instagram.  Has anyone ever experienced such a problem?  If so, why and how was the problem fixed?  I am starting to engage in a debate that I have been trying to avoid with my friends.  They say that Samsung is striving and I now tend to agree, and if the problem persists I will gladly join the Samsung family. They seem to make reliable phones.  Sadly, I never experienced this problem with iPhone 3GS & iPhone 4S.
    With Gratitude,
    Thapelo

    Hello,
If you're in a country where there's an apple shop (unfortunately not mine), go check it and ask the employee about it: he's gonna check your Iphone on a "device"
I've got an iphone 5 and it's working very well with me but I have to admit that its battery lasts (slower) than my Ipad 2.
Still i can help with some tips that may improve your iohone's battery by an hour in addition (hopefully):
    - close all apps by multitasking....
    - do NOT keep the brightness to the max
Believe me you're gonna regret changing your phone to a samsung
Hope i've helped and sorry for my bad english (has english as 3rd language)

    # are discussed, and example settings given.
    # Some parameter settings are generic to any size installation.
    # For parameters that require different values in different size
    # installations, three scenarios have been provided: SMALL, MEDIUM
    # and LARGE. Any parameter that needs to be tuned according to
    # installation size will have three settings, each one commented
    # according to installation size.

    # -------Installation/Database Size------

    # To set up a database that multiple instances will be using, place
    # all instance-specific parameters in one file, and then have all
    # of these files point to a master file using the IFILE command.

    # necessary, since all instances must run with the same value for many
    # parameters. For example, if you choose to use private rollback segments,
    # these must be specified in different files, but since all gc_*

We don't need the database to be open for this, just have the control file mounted:
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    Database closed.
    Database dismounted.
    ORACLE instance shut down.
    SQL> exit

    thanks Denise

This just happened here twice to. Was working in Photoshop CC on my Cintiq HD24 Touch when the cursor turned into a static beach ball. First time i ended up rebooting (really annoiying). Second time i opened Chrome to google this bug. Somewhere in the process of searching information my cursor changed back to an arrow???
Using Mavericks on a rMBP mid 2012, Photoshop CC and a Wacom Cintiq HD24 Touch. Did not experience this before working on the Cintiq.
    Just letting you know.

Make your instance service in the windows services as auto start. However, if it show starting not started, just stop and start again. Otherwsie, shutdown your windows and start it again.

  • Calendar days to start from Monday to Sunday

    Guys,
On the Calendar functionality, when viewing the appointments by week then is it possible to have the day to start from Monday to Sunday?
Currently, it starts at Sunday to Saturday.

At this time the calendar is set for Sunday to Saturday. I would recommend submitting a enhancement request to On Demand customer care.
