Change the process name in Windows

Hello,
I wondered if there are any JVM commands which changes the process name of a java-application running in Windows?
I am running several java processes and I would like to identify them in the taskmanager list or tasklist.exe

Check out the jps utility in JDK5.0 (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/tooldocs/share/jps.html). jps -l is probably what you want. It will list applications that are running with 1.4.2 too.

  • Can I change the COMPUTER NAME of Windows Server ?

    Hi all,
    Is it possible to change the Computer Name of the Windows Server 2008, if Yes, what's the effect on all terminal profile on each station?
    ** We have many station that accessing some files thru pipe name ex: \\MyServer\Data\ hard coded on program public folders on server, but the newly installed server was named "MyServer2" can just rename it back to "MyServer" without problems
    on client station? " ***
    Thanks ^_^y

    Yes. You can change the name.
    You need to update all reference to new server name. You can try creating an Alias in DNS as a co-existence option.

  • How to change the package name of View or Window

    Hi all,
    i have created the Webdynpro Application.i have some Views and Windows in the WebDynpro Peoject.i want to change the package Names of Views.is it possible???
    thanks in advance
    regards
    Naidu

    Hi Naidu
        Though you rename the package name, the view in that package refers to the old package and hence that view can be used in other views by including the old package name only. Renaming doesn't have significance that you expect. You can create a new package and views in it and copy the implementation of views from the old package to the views in the new package.

  • How to Change the iPod "name"

    Well friends,
    I posted a msg and got an answer that my wife claims doesn't work. Short story - I am new to iPod. Never touched one before. Bought one for wife in Iraq. Loaded music and shipped it in 24 hours. Well, somewhere in the process I "changed the iPod name" to her Name and Rank - go figure, she's in the Army. Well, I am the devil and she can't figure out the name change (to her first name only). I received the following steps that she claims to have followed. Can some one please look at their pod and help me?
    To change the name of the iPod, you must connect it to a computer with iTunes installed. If you have Windows, follow these instructions: Once connected, start iTunes and follow these instructions:
    1. Once the iPod appears in the Playlist tree to the left, Single-click on the name of the iPod.
    2. In a second or two, a text box will appear around the name.
    3. Enter the new name.
    4. Click anywhere else in the iTunes window.
    5. The iPod will be renamed. (this may take a few seconds)
    Sincerely,
    Suffering Husband
    aka The Devil for Naming her iPod
    60 GB iPod   Windows XP

    You could also try selecting the iPod in iTunes (in the source pane on the left) and then click F2 on the keyboard. You should be able to rename it there.
    Also, if the iPod is updating new songs an all (and blinking red in iTunes) it might now work right away. You can try again later in the updating process.

  • How to change the computer name

    I need to change the computer name but after this I cannot access to the historical data (printing alarms).
    I have already changed the settings in Options->System and restarted the system.
    With MAX 3.0 I can see that all the alarm records are stored with the old computer name \\computer name\process\....
    How can I do to read the old alarms with the new computer name?
    Thank you
    Michael

    Hi,
    When you change the computer name in Options>>System, you are not changing the name of the computer. Rather, you are telling Lookout to log to either a remote or local system. Here are the specifics:
    1. Computer Name: Name you want the traces to appear with (\\computer_name\process\...)
    2. Default Computer: Computer you want to log to. If the name listed here is different than your computer's name (as seen by Windows), then it will attempt to log directly to that remote machine.
    3. Default Path: Directory on either your local or remote machine that you want to log to.
    To change the name of your local computer, you will need to do that in Windows. If you have WinXP, you can do this by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Computer Name.
    Go
    od Luck

  • Can I change the network name?

    Can I change the network name on a newly set up Airport wireless network? I have just set up a new 3Gb Time Capsule and got so involved with trying to make it work that I just accepted the suggested name.

    I have a 2Tb in process.
    If this means that you are currently backing up data to the Time Capsule, let that process complete before you make any other changes.
    I think I can see how to change the network password in 'Keychain'. Is that ok?
    No, you change the wireless network password the same way that you would change the wireless network name....using the same window in AirPort Utility that is pictured above.
    Simply Edit / backspace out the current password and enter the new password that you want to use. Do the same to Verify and then click Update to save the changes.

    Dear Ashutosh,
    Thanks for guiding us to correct location.
    What we identified is we connected portal to the LDAP
    of EP 5.0 while migrating the content.After migration we
    have formatted the 5.0 system.
    Now that portal is connected to that LDAP which is
    not existing the problem is coming.
    Is there any way through CONFIGURATION tool I can remove
    that connectivity to LDAP?
    I am trying to configure LDAP again on the same server
    but before to that if some one can hint me how to
    remove the LDAP configuration from the Portal I would
    be very much thankful..

  • How can I change the administrator name?

    I'm getting ready to sell my old I-mac. How do I change the administrator name or delete it?

    Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
    Step One - Back up your data:
           A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
           B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
              1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
              2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
              3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
                  side.
              4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
                  sure to opt for that.
                   Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
                   startup drive.
    Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
              1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
              2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
              3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
              4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
              5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See.What to do with iCloud before selling your computer
    Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
         A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
              1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
              2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
              3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
                  Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              4. Install OS X.
              5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
              6. Shutdown the computer.
         B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
             Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
                       it is three times faster than wireless.
              1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
                  Utilities window appears.
              2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
              3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
                  on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
              4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
                  and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
              6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
              7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
              8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
    *If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. If this is not possible then simply erase the drive. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.

  • Xmonad actions.windowbringer; x11 process name in window name

    I have been struggling with a small problem that concerns XMonad.Actions.WindowBringer. This module uses dmenu in order to bring some window into focus. Dmenu is called with a list of current names of all windows and  users can either select one window using arrows or search by a string in window names.
    The problem is that some applications set window name in such a way that there is no mention about the name of application itself. For instance, my browser simply set the opened url in focused tab, but does not mention the name of the browser.
    What I want to achieve is simply put the process name together with the window name, so that it can simplify the window search.
    I believe there are two ways of achieving it:
    -- the first one is to change the format of the window name in Xorg. Thus, to append to window name, also the name of the process (when I say the name of the process, I mean something like the output of this command: ps -q $(xdotool getwindowfocus getwindowpid) -o command). If there is such a way that one can configure the window name title in Xorg, I would appreciate if one can indicate it. And this would be then a global solution that does not concern xmonad or haskell programming.
    -- Another approach I tried is  to find a way to get "getwindowpid" property from inside the haskell in order to modify Action.WindowBringer module for my taste. But I have not found any modules that can achieve that, i.e. getting pid of the windows or getting the process names of the windows. So, if you are aware of any, please reply.
    Thank you!

    This is exactly where I have started.
    Inside the windowbringer module they use the getname function from util.namedwindow, which simply equivalent to "xdotool getwindowname". All other functions in windowbringer module are related to what can be done with the selected window: dragged to the current workspace, jump to the workspace where the window is and focus on it, etc.
    Unfortunately, in util.namedwindow there is only one available function which simply get the window name. And I have not find the xmonad module which provide with the same functionality as xdotool program.

  • How to change the default name of new adjustment layers? (and other Q's)

    How do I change the default name of new adjustment layers?
    How can I make it so that adjustment layers don't come with a mask when I create them (unless I have a selection active)?
    Why isn't the Shadows/Highlights functionality an adjustment layer? It's accessable under "adjustments" but you can't use it non-destructive
    Where can I find documentation on Photoshop's API? (I want o make tools for it - javascript)

    Forgive me for not looking into your Maya-specific links, but one can automate Photoshop using JavaScript indeed (on Windows also VB, on Mac also AppleScript).
    Not everything can be automated naturally, but a lot – and it can really speed up many tasks; and with the »small« repetitive ones like saving copies off of files etc. combining Scripts with Configurator Panels can be especially convenient.
    There is a Scripting Forum over at
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop/photoshop_scripting
    As for plugins: it's something I would like to learn some day (I guess you would have to go with Flash and AS3 for making actual plugins)
    I think you might also have to learn C++ or C.
    There is Forum the contributors to which might be able to give you pointers if you get to that.

  • How to change the file name of pdf file in html page?

    Hi,
    Actually my requirement is to upload 50 PDF files containing javascript in each file into flex page with the help of one html page.
    i did the the javascript part by using batch processing.
    now i want to call those pdf files one after another without changing the file name in html page
    the code written in html page is
    <html>
        <body>
            <object id="PDFObj"
                    data="http:\\localhost\pdf\20090807 - Batch 630.pdf"
                    type="application/pdf"
                    width="100%"
                    height="100%">
            </object>
            </body>
    </html>
    So every time i have to change that file name to acess another file.
    Is there is any other way to sort this problem????
    Plz anyone help me to sort out this problem with some code or some example.

    I once had a similar task for creating a webpage that I only use on my computer--a webpage that accesses PDF's and SWF's font previews from a list of fonts as "a href's".  What you must do is utilize the power of the command line, whether on a Mac on a PC or on Linux, Linux being the most powerful (although Mac IS Unix).  You must utilize variables, variable replacement, and then a command to print out the results of a "for" or "while" loop to a text file which will be your HTML file with each individual link automatically built into the HTML code.  You will have a list of 50 links.  If you are simply looking for a GOOGLE type functionality where you click on "Next" and "Previous" you will have to dig deeper into variable replacement--this I don't know how to do yet but there are books for command-line shell interpreters.  One shell interpreter is called "bash" (born-again shell) and there is a book on the market which gives a detailed example of how to replace variables in a shell script.  Again, I don't know how it works.  I will try to learn this at a later time when I am more seasoned with the basics of shell scripting.

  • Finder changes the file name in Save/Save As dialogue box

    Whenever I save or save as a file, the dialogue box opens, but when I make the file list active when using a mouse, the file name I click to changes the file name I am saving. I simply want to activate the file list window so I can find the right folder. For example if I am looking for a folder called "Receipts" I want to be able to click on the file list window to activate it and then type the first 2 letters of the folder-- "re" and then save the file in that folder. The finder keeps changing the name of the current file whenever I click on one of the "greyed-out" file names? This doesn't make sense unless of course I want to replace that file.
    Is there a shortcut that makes the file list window in the dialogue box active while in the SAVE/SAVE AS dialogue box??

    Yes, this example of horrible UI design has been a problem since "Panther". It illustrates what happens when you try to copy UI behaviour from another OS, do it poorly, and end up with a mess. In 10.3 and 10.4, the combination of the renaming behaviour with the default "replace" selection in the resulting save can result in data loss.
    Compared to the old Mac OS where a tab would flip the focus between the text field for the file name and the file browser, the current behaviour either doesn't allow enough keyboard access to controls, or with "full access" enabled, too many to cycle through easily. The inability to switch focus to the file browser using the mouse (depending on the view) is a horrible productivity loss. Having to recheck the filename before saving is a horrible productivity loss. Since there is no "undo" for the renaming in most files, having to retype the name is again, a horrible productivity loss.
    If they had done it right (a simple change, like requiring a modifier to rename), users would probably welcome the "rename" feature as a useful addition. Instead, it has the feel of something a junior Windows-trained programmer slipped in past their supervisor.
    In short, I am not aware of any workaround or hack to avoid this "renaming" behaviour. I doubt it will do any good since people have been doing so since "Panther", but you could try submitting feedback:

  • How to change the SID name in the server

    hi all,
    i installed oracle 10g R1 on windows 2003 server. i gave an sid and created a database. the database is new and there is no data in the db. now i want to change the SID name of the database. pls help me in doing this.
    regards,
    nagarjuna

    Hi,
    Just a notice: SID and DBNAME are two different things. But the usual practice is to have SID = DBNAME, so let me assume you want to change both SID and DBNAME.
    Either you can do it manually by recreating the controlfile as orawiss suggests. You may discover some challenges around the way (for instance, for the command CREATE CONTROLFILE SET "new_dbname" to work, you have do delete or rename the old controlfiles first).
    Or, you can change it easier by using nid utility. The detailed howto and all implications can be found on:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/server.101/b10825/dbnewid.htm
    Basically:
    SQL> create pfile from spfile;
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    nid TARGET=sys/password@oldname DBNAME=newname
    copy the initoldname.ora to initnewname.ora and edit the DB_NAME parameter to reflect the new name
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    SQL> create spfile from pfile;
    SQL>startup mount;
    SQL> alter database open resetlogs;
    Then don't forget to generate new password file for the new dbname (using orapw) and make changes in tnsnames.ora and listener.ora if needed.
    Just make sure, the database has been properly shut down before changing the db_name either manualy by recreating controlfile or by the newid utility, as the renamed database has to be opened with resetlogs - making any crash recover of improperly shut down database impossible.
    Kind regards,
    Martin
