Change XML Tags Parse Date

I need to change tags or elements in XML that is exported from Access to to put data into a calendar.
This:
<Courses>
<Date>3/04/2009</Date>

Ocean Star Museum FENG 1001

Galveston Offshore Rig Museum

</Courses>
To this:
<events>
<event>
<month>3</month>
<day>4</day>
<year>2009</year>
<text>Ocean Star Museum FENG 1001</text>
<popuplink/>

<tooltip/>

</event>
I know I need to use XSLT, but can I parse the date? SHould I put Day Month and Year separate in the database? Can it be parsed?

I still dont know how to get the query to output what I want. Should I create all the columns necessary for the calendar?
I need these XML elements:
Month
Day
Year
Text
Popuplink
Style
Tooltip
Script
Filter
These are the items in the sample xml that goes with the calendar. Should I make a table in Access that has these columns? I currently have the database working, but with a different configuration. I assume I may need to add a few columns such as "Popuplink" and others. How can I get the Month Day and Year field in a Query if I don't have a column for these. It seems the query relates to a column in the database.
I'm currently trying to use the DatePart function in the Query Builder. I'm new to backend stuff.

• How to change XML Tag sequence in XML Publisher Reports

Hi Experts,
I am working on XML Publisher reports, EBS 11I and Database 9i. I have standard report 'PO Printed Purchase Order Report (XML)', it's output type is XML. I want to change the sequence of groups in XML file.
I am getting XML tags like below at present:
LIST_G_HEADERS \ G_HEADERS \ LIST_G_HEADER_NOTES
I want to change the sequence of groups like below.
LIST_G_HEADERS \ G_HEADERS \ LIST_G_LINES \
Could somebody help me how to change the sequence of XML Groups.
Thanks in advance.

Paul,
This works. Thanks!
I am still working through the implications of having a data connection defined. I notice that every time I submit, it creates two records in my database, one with all the fields blank, and one with the data and attachment.
I will have to do some more digging into the double submission, but at least it is uploading the file.
Thanks again,
Ed

• Change xml tags?

Hi Guys!
I'm supposed to send a message to a web service as an XML.
The problem is that when I send the message, the tags are changed to <ns0:BuyerNumber>. Is it possible to change the tag to <BuyerNumber>???
Another problem that I have is that the XML file is going to be linked to a XLS file. Is there a way to add to the outgoing message?

I want to take this...

<ns0:Mottaxxxxx2 xmlns:ns0="http://www.example.com/XMLSchema">
<ns0:Interchange>
and change it to

<Mottaxxxxx2 xmlns:ns0="http://www.example.com/XMLSchema">
<Interchange>
As you can see, the ns0: is removed and
there is a stylesheet added to the xml.
Since I am quite new with this, can you please give a detailed solution. Not step by step guide, but close

• Changing XML Before Parsing

My problem in brief: I want to change some data from an XML file before parsing it.
I'm using xerces to parse an XML file. Occasionally the XML file contains an ampersand character rendering it invalid, so xerces throws an error when parsing.
To get around this problem i'm using a FileInputStream and BufferedReader to read the file into a String (line by line), changing the ampersand character, then using an InputStream and DocumentBuilderFactory to parse the String. This works to an extent but takes a while, making it extremely inefficient.
Essentially, is there are more efficient way of changing the XML before it is parsed by Xerces?

Using JDOM its bit easy.
It provides various methods for example
Element.getChild("child_Node_Name").NodeName() --to get Node name
and
Element.getChildText("child_Node_Name") -- to get contents of the child node
and then using StringBuffer you can you can play it as you want.
Hope this will help.

• Question about changing xml tags in your RSS feed

If I were to change the "author" of my podcast (namewise) - would that mess up the feed for anyone subscribed? I'm not sure what end users see or experience.
<itunes:name>element
So I I switch this to a different name - does that mess up existing subscribers in any way?
Thanks!

No: subscribers identify the feed by its URL and any changes you make to tags will simply appear for them. Changes will appear in the iTunes Store after a delay of a couple of days or so, but immediately for subscribers.

• XMLDocument and blank XML tag parse issue

var xmlDoc:XMLDocument = new XMLDocument();
xmlDoc.ignoreWhite = false;
xmlDoc.parseXML("<Test> </Test>");
var decoder:SimpleXMLDecoder = new SimpleXMLDecoder(true);
var processObj:Object = decoder.decodeXML(xmlDoc);
trace( processObj.Test );
Result is comming as 0 instead of a blank space between the tags(<Test> </Test>).

Hi,
Here are two possible solutions :
xmlelement("EXCEPTIONS",
xmlforest(
xmlforest(
v1.exception_code as "EXCEPTION_CODE"
, v1.exception_long_desc as "EXCEPTION_LONG_DESC"
) as "EXCEPTION"
)or,
xmlelement("EXCEPTIONS",
case when v1.exception_code is not null
or v1.exception_long_desc is not null
then xmlelement("EXCEPTION",
xmlforest(
v1.exception_code as "EXCEPTION_CODE"
, v1.exception_long_desc as "EXCEPTION_LONG_DESC"
end
)

• Embedding inline HTML data in XML using the mx:XML tag with < and >

What is best practice for embedding HTML within the
<mx:XML> tag? Programmatically, I can implement this
successfully:
[Bindable]
public var xmlDP:XML = <component data="<" />;
However, I get the following error if I try to store the same
data inline in an mx:XML tag, as such:
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data="<" />
</mx:XML>
Error #1095: XML parser failure: Unterminated attribute.
If I change the MXML tag as follows, it works fine:
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data="&lt;" />
</mx:XML>
Unfortunately, I also can not source the mx:XML tag to an XML
file which uses < or > codes, as it yields the same
results. This leads me to believe that the <mx:XML> tag does
not support the special character codes for < and >, but why?
Incidentally, this code also gives a 1095 error:
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data="<" />
</mx:XML>
This is causing an issue with my source data as it is not
hand typed into Flex, and standard XML supports the < and
> codes. I have tried a full HTML string, as shown below,
but this also generates the error:
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data="<b>Test</b>"
/>
</mx:XML>
Many thanks for any input you may have!

I’m generating the XML source file with
Microsoft’s XML Notepad 2007. It will encode invalid special
characters automatically. My understanding is that this is the
proper way to handle the less than symbol in a XML string, that is
to say using the < code.
With respect to the escape and un-escape methods, I am able
to successfully implement these in AS, but not in MXML. This makes
sense considering they are AS methods, but I was hoping to be able
to do something like:
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data="escape('<');" />
</mx:XML>
This gives the following compilation error:
The value of attribute "data" must not contain the '<'
character.
As does using the escape character as such:
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data="\<" />
</mx:XML>
Below is an example of what the escape character may be used
for in AS:
var myString:String = "\"";
trace(myString);
// result: "
Likewise, I can escape the < character as such:
var myString:String = escape("<");
trace(myString);
// result: %3C
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data="%3C" />
</mx:XML>
trace(un-escape(xmlDP.@data));
// result: <
As you can see, using %3C and unescaping in AS will yield the
correct result; however, this is not a practical method of
representing the data in MXML as I would have to write an AS method
to un-escape the XML string anyway, so I might as well just store
the data in AS to begin with. I was hoping for a way to source an
mx:XML object, without having to load it into ActionScript
manually. Here’s an example of the functionality I would
expect:
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data=">" />
</mx:XML>
trace(xmlDP.@data);
// result: >
Only this does not work for the less than symbol. I’m
assuming at this point that this is a bug in the Flex compiler.
Thanks again for your help troubleshooting this one!

• Change error tag names of the Response xml of a vanilla Inbound Webservice

Hi,
I am invoking a vanilla inbound webservice "Service Request" through Soap UI. Whenever any error occurs, in the response xml, some tags like "siebelf:error" is generated in the xml. However these tags are not present in the IO.My question is, can we change these tag names? If yes, then how?

Hi,
You should be able to edit the generated wsdl as you suggested, changing the
"return" to something else. Then save the wsdl to a file, say
"filename.wsdl", and then at the top of your jws add the following:
* @jws:wsdl file="filename.wsdl"
This will force the jws to use the wsdl you specify and you won't have to
edit any maps. Of course, as your jws changes, you will need to regenerate
the wsdl and change the "return" to something else.

Now I want to create clients with different software-products. Because Igot some
errors with one of these products, I looked into the WSDL and noticed thatthe
name of the response-datatype is 'return' (by default).
You can see this here:
- <s:element name="addUserResponse">
- <s:complexType>
- <s:sequence>
<s:element minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1" name="return" nillable="true"type="s:string"
/>
This 'return' is interpreted as a keyword in the client-generation tool.If I
change this manually to another word then it works.
When I try to change the 'Return XML' in the 'Edit Maps and Interface'Dialog,
than the WSDL looks like this:
- <s:element name="addUserResponse">
- <s:complexType mixed="true">
- <s:sequence>
<s:any minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="unbounded" />
Now the name- and type-definitions are completely missing.
The question is now: how to change the name of the response-datatype from'return'
to another (not-keyword-) name?
I think this is important because I don't know what software a customeruses to
generate a client and I can not expect that he manually edits myWSDL-file.

• Getting characters in a particular xml tag type during Sax parsing.

How do I get the text within a certain XML tag using the parser. I can use the parser which will get me all the text in all the tags, but how do I get the ones I need only.
For example:

<display-name lang="en">BBC1</display-name>
<display-name>1</display-name>

<programme start="20040217233500" stop="20040218000500 +0000" channel="south-east.bbc1.bbc.co.uk">

Film 2004 with Jonathan Ross

</programme>how do I get the text 'Film 2004 with Jonathan Ross' without getting the others?

Well, the SAX parser just gives you the start/end tag
information to a handler, right? So if you just use
the SAX parser to get one item, then you could do it
by running thru the entire XML file to get that item
then get another item. Clearly this isn't the best
way to do it.... The handler should put the data for
the whole document into some data structure, or use
DocumentBuilder to get a Document object. I see. Yes, that is not the way to use SAX. It's kind of an inside out way of doing things. If you using SAX you should know everything that you want before parsing and grab all of them in one fell swoop.
If you want to get an in memory representation, the JDOM package is a whole lot eaiser to use than DOM.

• How do I create individual xml files from the parsed data output of a xml file?

I have written a program (DOM Parser) that parses data from a XMl File. I would like to create an individual file with the corresponding name for each set of data parsed from the xml document. If the parsed output is Single, Double, Triple, I would like to create an individual xml file (Single.xml, Double.xml, Triple.xml)with those corresponding names. How do I create the xml files and give each file the name of my parsed data output? Thanks in advance for your help.

• JS to change object XML tag

Hi
any one knows how to change a tagged object's XML tag from say Aold to Bnew without affecting it's content and position in the XML structure?
Thank you

Hello. I'm new here but it seems to be the only place where I can post this question to.
I'm working in a C# application that uses InDesign CS3 scripting. I'm trying to create an index automatically from a tabbed list of words in a text file.
As C# is a strongly typed language, I have to cast all objects to the right type. I'm having problems when I try to add the page numbers to the created index entries using the following code (I've used the CreateIndexEntry.jsx scrip as a starting point).
//Find all occurrences of the word or set of words (the topic name)
((InDesign.FindTextPreference) app.FindTextPreferences).FindWhat = topic.Name;
InDesign.Objects foundTexts = doc.FindText(System.Reflection.Missing.Value);
It's supposed to be an Array of Text objects (InDesign.Text) but when I try to cast each object using this
//Code is forced because I've tried everything here
//Loop through each finding and add page numbers to topic
IEnumerator textEnum = foundTexts.GetEnumerator();
while (textEnum.MoveNext())
object text = textEnum.Current;
topic.PageReferences.Add((InDesign.Text)text, InDesign.idPageReferenceType.idCurrentPage, System.Reflection.Missing.Value, System.Reflection.Missing.Value);
I got the following exception (translated).
text is not an InDesign.Text object (Interfaces doesn't match)
So the question is what object type should I use to cast each object resulting by calling the Document's FindText method.
Every suggestion will ve very welcome.
Thank You very much.
