Changing DB character set for only one schema

We are interested in changing the characterset of only one user from Western European to AL32UTF8.
Could you please verify if the following steps will be correct to do the same.
1. Run CSScan on the one user
2. Fix any issues
3. Export that one user (with NLS_LANG set to <your old database character set>)
4. Create a new database in the AL32UTF8 character set
5. Import that one user into the new database (with NLS_LANG set to <your old database character set>)

Actually your title is a little incorrect. You are not changing CS for only one schema in existing DB which is not possible. You are trying to migrate a schema to new CS DB. Which is totally doable and your approach is mostly correct.
Database Character Set Scanner provide user scan mode
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14225/ch12scanner.htm#i1006013
Mostly the issue could be data truncation, especially if you have column defined using char or varchar2 vs nchar and nvarchar2
because char/varchar is defined in bytes, AL32UTF8 is multi-bytes char set, some character of your old data could saved more than 1 bytes in new DB and can't fit into the column size.

  • ChaRM scenario for only one productive system

    Hi CHaRM-experts!
I would like to know whether or not is it possible to use the Change Request Management scenarion for only one productive system?
It means we have systems and cases where we should apply the emergency correction only in productive system, without any transport from DEV or QAS system.
    Does ChaRM support such case?
    Thank you very much!
    regards
    Thom

    Hi Don,
thank you very much for your answer.
No, I do not plan any transport in the productive system.
I would just make any adminstrative changes without transport.
    Does ChaRM support such scenarios?
    Thank you!
    regards

  • Cannot convert character sets for one or more characters

    Hello,
    Issue:
    Source File:   Test.csv
Source file dropped on application server as csv file via FTP
Total records in csv file 102396
I can able to load only 38,000 records after that I am getting error message  " convert character sets for one or more characters"  while loading into PSA .
If i load same csv file from local workstation I am not getting any error message I can able to load total 102396 records.
I am guessing while FTP the file into Application server some invalid codes adding?
But I am FTP 7 files,  out of 7 I am unable to load only 1 file.
Anybody have faced this kind of problem please share with me I will assign full points
    Thanks

I checked lower case option for all IO
When i checked the PSA failed log no of records processed is "0 of 0" my question is with out processing single record system is througing this error message.
When i use same file loading from local workstation no error message
I am thinking when  I FTP the file from AS/400 to BI Application Server(Linex) some invalid characters are adding but how can we track that invalid char?
Gurus please share your thoughts on this I will assign full points.
    Thanks,

  • How to set or change character set for Oracle 10 XE

    Installing via RPM on Linux.
I need to have my database set to use UTF8 and WE8ISO8859P15 as the character set and national character set. (Think those are in the right order. If not, it's the opposite.)
If I do a standard "yum localinstall rpm-file-name," it installs Oracle. I then run the "/etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure" command to set my ports.
Every time I do this, I end up with AL32/AL16 character sets.
I finally hardcoded ISO-8859-15 as the Linux 'locale' character set and set this in the various bash profile config files. Now, I end up with WE8MSWIN1252 as the character set and AL16UTF16 as the national character set.
I've tried editing the createdb.sh script to hard code the character set types and then copied that file over the original while the RPM is still installing. I've tried editing the nls_lang.sh script to hard code the settings there and copied over the original shell script while the RPM is still installing.
    Doesn't matter.
HOW can I do this? If I wait until after the RPM is installed and try running the createdb.sh file, then it ends up creating a database but not doing everything properly. I end up missing pfiles or spfiles. Various errors crop up.
If I try to change them from the sql command line, I am told that the new character set must be a superset of the old one. It fails.
I'm new to Oracle, so I'm treading water that's uncharted. In short, I need community help. It's important to the app I'm running and attempting to migrate from to maintain these character sets.
    Thanks.

I don't think you can change Oracle XE character set. When downloading Oracle XE you must choose to download:
    - either the Universal Edition using AL32UTF8
    - or the Western Euopean Edition using WE8MSWIN1252.
    See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/install.102/b25144/toc.htm#BABJACJJ
If you really need UTF8 instead of AL32UTF8 you need to use Oracle Standard Edition or Oracle Entreprise Edition:
these editions allow to select database character set at database creation time which is not really possible with Oracle XE
Note that changing environment variable NLS_LANG has nothing to do with changing database character set:

I have pdf files in European languages and want to be able to enter non-English characters in the "find" function. How does one install other character sets for use with Acrobat Pro XI?

Have you tried applying the update by going to Help>Updates within Photoshop Lightroom?  The update should be using the same licensing?  Did you perhaps customize the installation location?  Finally which operating system are you using?

  • Flat File Load Issue - Cannot convert character sets for one or more charac

We have recently upgraded our production BW system to SPS 17 (BW SP19)
and we have issues loading flat files (contain Chinese, Japanese and
Korean characters) which worked fine before the upgrade. The Asian
languages appear as invalid characters (garbled) as we can see in PSA. The Character Set
Settings was previously set as Default Setting and it worked fine until
the upgrade abd we referred to note 1130965 and with the code page 1100
the load went through (without the Cannot convert character sets for one or more characters error) however the Asian language characters will appear
as invalid characters. We tried all the code pages suggested in the note e.g.
4102, 4103 etc on the info packages but it did not work. Note that the
flat files are encoded in UTF-8.

I checked lower case option for all IO

  • Cannot convert character sets for one or more characters Error message

    Hello,
I am getting this error message "Cannot convert character sets for one or more characters" when i try to transfer the data from Application server file as CSV to PSA.
    Using T-code AL11
Under SAP Directory I open my file I  can able to see all contents of my file right?
But i can't able to see all my data because of this I am getting ths error message?
I am loading Master data attribute
Is there any limitation on record length?
    Please share your thought..
    Thansk

Which length should not exceed 60.
When i load the same file from local workstation I can able to load no error message
Why I am getting if i load same file from application server?

  • How to change the character set encoding not being a superset one

HI, i have a fresh installed database, but i realize the character set support in my client is not good enough, since its a not production database i want to change the character set encoding to anothor one not being a superset of the old one.
I have tried the "ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET WE8MSWIN1252" but it fails claiming i need a superset one.
I guess its just a single steps to do it, i have all the privileges, just not the time to reinstall and setup everything.

Do you know what that does to the existing data, though? My hunch would be that any characters which have a different binary representation in the source & target character sets would be corrupted.

  • How to set a keyframe with setValueAtTime for only one axis?

    Hi,
I´d like to set a keyframe for the layer´s scale, anchor point values but separately. Let´s say I want to add the following keyframes to a layer:
    time: 0, value: 100, axis: X
    time: 0.3, value: 10, axis: Y
    time: 1, value: 110, axis: X
If I use setValueAtTime(time ,[x, y]) it always places a keyframe for both axis.
How can I set a keyframe with setValueAtTime for only one axis?
    Regards,
    Thomas

Dan, thanks for your fast reply. But the problem is a bit difficult to describe for a german like me
I´m try to convert given keyframes from another application. Let me visually show how it handles keyframes that are set on different axis at different times:
    X: O---O---O
    Y: ---O--O-O
You see when the user sets a keyframe and both axis were modified, both have a keyframe (see the last key). But if only one axis is transformed and the other not, there is only one keyframe. The problem that I try to solve is that AE is only able to set a keyframe for both axis at a given time. So if I set the 3 keyframes of the X axis first, the AE script will set keys on the Y axis simultaneously. That´s bad because it adds keyframe to the other axis where there is no value "cache". So if I would set all keyframes it would look like this:
    X: O--•O-•-O
    Y: •--O•-O-O
The small dots indicate those "forced" in-between keys.
So is there a "native" scripting way to separate the dimensions (like the position prop) for other props and add independent keyframes?

  • How do I change my Apple ID on only one device?

How do I change my Apple ID on only one device? I inherited my husband's iPhone 5. He cleared it but I set it up with same Apple ID so we could share same iTunes account. However, I realised that there are inconveniences such as not being able to Facetime each other. In addition, his iTunes account is UK-based and we'd like to also have a New Zealand iTunes account for various reasons.

Go to settings/icloud and sign out. Then sign in by creating a new Apple ID. Do the same in Settings for Messages, FaceTime and iTunes & App Store. Next, link your Apple IDs using Family Sharing so you can still share music and apps. Family Sharing - Apple Support

  • Changing database character set from US7ASCII to AL32UTF8

Our database is running on Oracle database 10.1.0.4.0 (AIX) The following are its parameters:
    SQL> select value from NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS where parameter='NLS_CHARACTERSET';
    VALUE
    US7ASCII
We would like to change the database character set to AL32UTF8. After following Metalink notes: 260192.1 (which helped us resolve "Lossy" and "Truncated" data, the final output of the CSSCAN utility is:
    [Scan Summary]
All character type data in the data dictionary are convertible to the new character set
All character type application data are convertible to the new character set
    [Data Dictionary Conversion Summary]
The data dictionary can be safely migrated using the CSALTER script
We have no (0) Truncation and Lossy entries on the .txt file. We only have Changeless and Convertible. Now accdg to the documentation, we can do a FULL EXP and FULL IMP. But it did not detail how to do the conversion on the same database. The discussion on the document tells how to do it from one database to another database. But how about on the same database?
We cannot use CSALTER as stated on the document.
    (Step 6
    Step 12
12.c) When using Csalter/Alter database to go to AL32UTF8 and there was NO "Truncation" data, only "Convertible" and "Changeless" in the csscan done in point 4:)
After performing a FULL export of the database, how can we change its character set? What do we need to do the the existing database to change its character set to AL32UTF8 before we import back our dump file into the same database?
    Please help.

There you are! Thanks! Seems like I am right in my understanding about the Oracle Official Documentation. Thanks!
    Hmmmmm...when you say:
*"you can do selective export of only convertible tables, truncate the tables, use CSALTER, and re-import."*
    This means that:
    1. After running csscan on database PROD, i will take note of the convertible tables in the .txt output file.
    2. Perform selective EXPORT on PROD (EXP the convertible tables)
    3. Truncate the convertible tables on PROD database
    4. Use CSALTER on PROD database
    5. Re-import the tables into PROD database
    6. Housekeeping.
Will you tell me if these steps are the correct one? Based on our scenario: This is what i have understood referring to the Official Doc.
    Am i correct?
I really appreciate your help Sergiusz.

  • Website not displaying correctly. Firefox is changing the character set to Western (ISO-8859-1) automatically.

Normally I have set Firefox (or it's set by default) to Character Set Unicode (UTF-8) and everything displays perfectly. I've never had a problem before.
Now however, whenever I upload my own website, for some bizarre reason on that particular tab (and only that tab) the Character Set is changed over to Western (ISO-8859-1) and then there's a few characters within my site that do not display correctly, namely apostrophes and hypens.
It definitely isn't my software (Serif WebPlus X4) because the page displays correctly in every other browser. Plus it displays correctly in Firefox if I change the Character set back to Unicode.
PS The site is a work in progress

That happens because the server sends a content-type (<b>text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1</b>) via the HTTP response headers and in that case that content type prevails. The page code is saved with an UTF-8 byte order mark () that you see in this case.
