Changing preferences to inches, reverts to cm?
Anyone having a problem with changing preferences to Inches from CM and then when I go to page set up it is back in CM??
Now I know I have blonde moments but this one has me thinking that apple missed something or my update is not working properly?
I have tried updating my computer 1st, updating pages 09, etc....
Thanks if you have any info?
kWelcome to Apple Discussions
What do you have set for measurements system-wide in System Preferences > International > Formats > Measurement Units (the very bottom of the preference pane)? My guess is it is set to US rather than metric. -
Hi! I want to know how i can change preferences from the VB scripts? If there is a command from the ituneslib library for do this? or how i can change value into iTunesPrefs.xml file?
thanks for the helpThe iTunes SDK does not provide any functions to change preferences. You could try doing it using SendKey() to send keypresses, or using something like AutoIT to do keystrokes and mouse clicks... but that requires you to run iTunes in each account that needs its preferences changed.
I have done some direct updates to preferences by editing the preferences XML, but it isn't fun because it isn't documented anywhere that I can find. Once you find the right byte/bit to update in the preferences, it isn't a big deal, but find the right one is a pain.
Also, when Apple updates iTunes you have to reevaluate your script to see if it is still changing the right thing in the preferences file.
If you want to see an example of updating the prefernces file directly, you can download my script package:
http://home.comcast.net/~teridon73/itunesscripts/index.html
The perl source code is included. Look at itunespreferencesfix.pl. Or here's a direct link to a version that works by itself (without the rest of my package):
http://home.comcast.net/~teridon73/itunesscripts/itunespreferencesfix.txt

Is anybody else having trouble with icloud notes syncing on the mac air to other devices? The preferences are all ticked to sync although an error message to change preferences in Icloud keeps on appearing when I open notes. I have attached a picture of the message I receive
After 2.5 hours on the phone with Apple last night, I have the solution, and it's incredibly simple: Change your iCloud password. Really...that will fix it. The tech said the password request could be all it needs.
You'll need to go here: https://appleid.apple.com to reset password.
Then you should back-up all you contacts, notes, calendars and documents locally. Then log out and back in to your iCloud account. Restart you computer and you should be back in business.
Sounds simple and stupid, but it fixed the problem for me.
Hope this helps! -
I bought a game from Game House that wil not allow me to install because Apple does not know writer. They say to change preferences. How do I do that? I have an Imac.
Thanks,

Changing preferences after deployment
Does anybody have experience with changing preferences after deployment using InstallShield Tuner? I am trying to change the Comments Repository on a large number of deployments that were deployed using an MST created with InstallShield Tuner.
In Office I'd use the Maintenance Wizard, but InstallShield Tuner does not appear to have that functionality.I know the registry key resolution, but I think that is such an ungraceful thing.
It would be nice if Adobe would come out with some management products even if this does involve creating an msp file. It would fit nicely into the 'suite' thing.
Oh well..... -

How to change preferences for all users in a Citrix enviroment
Hello.
I need change some preference settings for all users in my Citrix enviroment.
I know change the preference settings for a user, of course, but a have 160 users and a need to change some settings configuration one time on the server for all users.
The preferents I need change are: 'disable javascript' and 'don't show pdf in IE'
Thanks.Hi Arti,
In cProjects the authorizations can be managed either by authorization profile administration by system administrator for General authorizations or by Project specific authorizations for individual cProjects elements by Project owner.
Try the first one and I hope you will get the solution.

Nishit Jani

Unable to change preferences after Security Update 2006-007 10.3.9 ppc
Problem: System Preferences are locked and cannot be unlocked. And Software Update, and Disk Utility would launch but not work following installation of the S.U. 2006-007 .
Solution Steps: 1) Turn off airport card, 2) Connect using ethernet, 3) restart, 4) download S.U. 2006-007 and reinstall. 4) restart 5) disconnect ethernet and turn airport card on.
I believe these steps will work. I did alot of other stuff before trying this and it seems to be working. If you really want to know all of what I tried then read on. Otherwise I would just try the above.
The key seems to be that the airport card is turned off and you are connected to the internet via ethernet so you can download and install the file.
THE LONG STORY:
After using software update to install S.U. 2006-007
I was restarting and it to me to a black BSD login screen. I was not sure of the user name and password it was asking for so I ended up restarting by holding in the power button.
I reset the PRam and was able to get it to load but it listed the user at the top of the screen as UNKNOWN and would not let me see my alternate logins. I restarted again an this time it came up with my name.
Fearing problems I went to the disk utilities to check the permissions. It opened the disk utilities and as it was gathering information it suddenly quit disk utilities without any warnings.
I restarted in single user mode and used /sbin/fsck -fy twice and it found no problems and I restarted. It would still not let me do the disk utilities with the same results as above.
I went into my system preferences and my user settings were marked as locked and would not unlock even though I was logged in as the admin user.
I restarted and reset the power managment. Again I could not change the acounts preferences because it would not let me unlock them. My time was also messed up now and it would not let me unlock them.
I tried changing the passwords using the install disk and that did not work.
I also tried using disk utilities from the install disk. It checked the disk fine and found no problems but gave an error while trying to check the permissions.
I restarted and tried to software update the latest itunes and it would not let me install.
I am not sure why but I tried turning off my airport card and restarting. I was now able to change my preferences and do a disk utilities permissions repair {no problems found}.
I turned my airport card back on and once again my preferences were locked and so I turned the card off and the preferences stayed locked. I restarted several times playing with this and it appears that every time the airport card is turned on it locks the preferences and must be restarted with it off to allow access.
I tried logging in as a new user and had the same results.
I finally turned off the card and connected via ethernet and it had no problems unless the airport card was turned on. I redownloaded the S.U. 2006-007 and reinstalled it and it appears to work fine.
I was never connected wih the airport card and ethernet at the same time.
Ibook G4-800 Mac OS X (10.3.9)In the "never fails" category . . . went back onto the machine and signed on under a different account. Immediately got the the familiar Keychain dialog asking for permission for AirPort, responded yes, and the base station was suddenly visible to this account. Logged off, back in under the original account, got the same Keychain request (which had NEVER appeared before in 5 or 6 different logins) and was off and running again.

I want to view individual jpg files uploaded to my mobileme account. The URL ends in .jpg. I can view the files as webpages in Safari, but with Firefox, my only choice is to download the file. I tried to change the preferences>applications>jpeg picture>to "use other" but the drop down menu goes right back to always ask. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, and restarted my computer. I have two other macs running 10.5.8, and this happens on both. When I type the same URL into my mac running 10.6.3, a dialog box appears that gives me the option of choosing which application to open the file with (in this case Firefox, so that I can view the file in a web page) rather than just downloading the file. The dialog box in the 10.5.8 doesn't give me the option of choosing an app, only "Save File" or "Cancel". I'm sorry if this is long-winded.

Installation Restrictions
Do not install the product if you use any applications, which extend standard Finder
functionality (such as Path Finder, SNAX, etc.) If you already have some of these applications,
disable them first, and then install SPSS 13 for Mac OS X. Installation may not be completed
successfully if the name of any folder in the installation path exceeds 31 characters. This is due
to a limitation of Installer VISE.
Updating or Modifying Your Installation
To add a component, start the installation program from your CD-ROM. Select any new
components that you want to include. Make sure that every option you want to include is
selected including any previously installed components.
To add an SPSS option (Categories, Conjoint, Tables, and so on), start the SPSS 13 License
Renewal utility. If your license for SPSS Base or an SPSS option has expired you should run
this utility and enter the new license(s).
An installation log file is created in the ~/Library/Logs folder of the destination volume. You
may use the information in the log file to remove the installed copy of SPSS 13 for Mac OS X. -

Unable to change preferences for Adobe Reader 9.4.2 on Ubuntu 11.04
I installed Adobe Reader 9 via the Ubuntu Software Center. The installed files are located at /opt/Adobe/Reader9/
The reader runs ok except when I want to change some preferences, I've found that I can only view Preferences, but I cannot change it. All options are protected including the Cancel and OK buttons. I can only close the Preferences window.
Is it just a simple permission (chmod on some files) issue?
Many thanks. If you have the latest updates, then Acrobat Reader 9.4.2 does (at least) partially work in Ubuntu 11.10 + Unity.
There are a number of minor glitches - due to changes in Ubuntu's undelying GUI, kernal, etc. in the upgrde to Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric).
- floating scroll bars (only appearing when you hover mouse-cursor)
DOES NOT WORK: Does not scroll page ..
You may need to disable this feature. (in CCSM)
- Edit >> Preferences
This tries to work, but loses focus. I can see the Cancel and Ok buttons, but they don't do anyhting.
This is a GTK+ library issue, and an update to 9.4.2+ is needed.
Summary: There are a number of minor GUI issues that haev existed in 9.4.x for Linux. The update to Gnome 3 and Unity (for Ubuntu 11.10) has definitely made this much worse. -
How to open links in the same window, without changing preferences?
What I want to know is if there's a way to force a click on a link to open in the current window just one time, if the page was using target=_blank or other methods to open a new tab/window.
The context menu doesn't have an option for that, was hoping for a modifier key option or something, or perhaps a plugin that would add such an option.
I know there's an advanced pref to change the behaviour of clicking on links to control new tabs, windows, etc. I don't want to change the default, I just for certain links want to prevent the new tab on a one-up basis.
(currently on Firefox 30 for Mac)Firefox actually doesn't have any built-in preference for overriding the target attribute. If you are on a site where you know the link is coded to open in a new tab, currently, the best workarounds are:
* drag and drop the link on the address bar
* right-click > Copy Link Location and then paste in the address bar
Neither is convenient...
You might be able to find an add-on for this. For example, Tab Mix Plus, Tab Utilities, and other multi-functional tab-related extensions might have an option to force links into the same tab. In a brief search, I saw one called TargetKiller that is more focused on this but recent reviews mention conflicts with other extensions. If this is a frequent pain point, you could search further on the add-ons site.
* https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/
* https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/tab-utilities/
* https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/targetkiller/
Let us know the progress of your search.
Another possibility is to solicit someone to write a userscript. A userscript is a JavaScript add-on that can modify web pages, but not the user interface (for example, it cannot add a right-click context menu item). You need the Greasemonkey extension to run userscripts, and you need to evaluate them carefully because they are not formally reviewed by anyone.
You can contact userscript authors through these sites, and if someone is interested, they'll usually write the script for free and post it for everyone's benefit:

Changing preferences in Mail triggers preferences error + certificates
I have recently (within the month) switched to a newer Mac Pro. I didn't use Migration Assistant, but do sync via MobileMe.
Anyway, this suddenly started happening today - As I modify my settings in Mail (Mail>Preferences) and switch panes the following error message pops up:
Writing your preferences to disk has failed. Your preferences may not have been saved. The permissions on ~/Library/Preferences may be wrong or your disk may be full.
I've been using Mail for weeks without any issues (other than the certificate one mentioned below) and I've run repair permissions (without any reported issues) & restarted but I still get the error. My disk has plenty of free space, although I should note that I have a Vista partition because this computer will be added as a render node for a 3D Studio Max machine on our network (my computer is primarily FCP editing/photo retouching).
Also, I'm persistently getting 'Expired Certificate' errors when fetching mail - what's up with that?
Thanks in advance....These permissions bugs in Lion are pretty prevalent and I've had to reset a lot of application defaults since migrating between machines. Do the following and let me know if it works:
Copy your Mail and Mail Downloads folders in ~/Library/ ( where "~" is referring to your User). Paste these folders your copied into something on your desktop as a back up.
Then navigate to ~/Library/Preferences and find the two .plist files named, "com.apple.mail.plist" and "com.apple.mail.plist.lockedfile" and delete them.
Relaunch Mail.
Relaunching should cause a new .plist file to generate that reads as defualt and using the contents of your ~/Library/Mail folder your OS X Mail shoudl look like it did.
I have issues changing prefs in mail and seem to have a bigger bug at work since I continually have to trash my mail.plist once a week or else I can't connect to my SMTP server. But this always works and I get rid of the, "...writing preferences to your disk has failed..." message.

Flash size changes to be too small after published
Hi there, I have been using captivate for a while and this is my first time to have this problem. After I publish and upload it to Sumtotal, the window looks good but the flash player is very small. I set the project as 750x520 which I usually did. I
