Changing sessions start/load/run priority

1) I have fresh installed arch
2) installed compiz, ran fusion-icon and compiz worked smoothly
3) tried to introduce compiz as my default window manager, followed wiki
    in gconf editor : changed the /desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager to compiz
    and followed the rest of instructions but did not help. Finally changed the parameter to fusion-icon which caused gnome
    to startup with compiz as it default WM (and compiz icon on notification area).
4) Installed the gnome-do, activated autostart (which means an item in 'Sessions'), chose the 'Glass Interface'
From now on every time gnome starts 'gnome-do' falls back to its default interface and that's because it starts before compiz.
when I restart the 'gnome-do' (after compiz starts), the 'Glass Interface' appears again to prove this theory.
This same exact scenario also happens for 'Yakuake' and its transparent bash window.
Now I think I need to manually define the priority of starting/running programs in 'Sessions' and Ido not know how!!!
Truely appreciate your reply

I had the same problem, dont know if you found a fix or not, what i did was made a super simple bash script to delay gnome-do from starting.
#!/bin/bash
sleep 15s;
gnome-do;
then change the sessions to start this insted, works fine for me.
just make sure to make it executable
as a side note i had similar problems with tomboy starting and i did the same thing for it, and its fixed it.

  • HT1751 i bought a new, larger external hard drive. copied my itunes library from the old drive to the new one, changed the libarary location in Edit/Preferences/Advanced to the new drive. iTunes will not start or run unless old hard drive plugged in.??

    I bought a new, larger external hard drive. I have my iTunes library on the external drive instead of C: drive, Using Windows 7.
    I copied my itunes library from the old drive to the new one, changed the libarary location in Edit/Preferences/Advanced to the new drive.
    iTunes will not start or run unless the old hard drive is plugged in.
    If I disconnect the old drive iTunes shuts down.
    Any ideas. ??

    Hello kskip,
    Thank you for providing so much information about what is going on.  It sounds like you have setup iTunes to save new content to your new external hard drive in iTunes>Preferences, but it sounds like iTunes is not opening iTunes Library.itl file on the new external drive.  You have one last step to take to have iTunes point to your new external hard drive rather than your old one:
    Steps to create or choose a different iTunes Library file
    If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.
    If you are using Windows, hold down the Shift key and from the Start menu and choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes.
    You should see the following screen:
    Additional information
    If you do not see the screen above, then you did not hold the correct key at the correct time. You may want to try again. Note that if you pinned iTunes to the Start menu programs, and open it that way, it may not work.
    Once you select "Choose Library," you will need to navigate to the iTunes Library.itl file on your new external drive.
    You can find the full article here:

  • Firefox doesn't load/run/start at all.

    Firefox doesn't load/run at all. Never had any problems with Firefox before until today.
    My spyware warned me about a potential risk of a website asking for permission when browsing on Firefox...I clicked decline. Since then Firefox closed and won't start at all (a load icon begins to appear then nothing else happens. ''' Nothing'''). I don't know if it crashed or not as I didn't receive a crash report (not that I'd be able to access it anyhow I think). It just randomly shut down and since then won't start.
    I have restarted my computer, scanned my computer, turned off the firewall, reinstalled Firefox, attempted to run in safemode - none of these options correct the problem. It literally just does not start! It's not running as a hidden process/application either as I've look through my control pannel. Any help would be most appreciated.

  • Adobe Scout issue: not starting a new session for loaded SWFs

    We have an issue with Adobe Scout. It does not listen (doesn't start a new session like it sould) for a SWF loaded by another (main) SWF. The SWFs have advanced telemetry enabled and the setup is correct as described inhttp://www.adobe.com/devnet/scout/articles/adobe-scout-getting-started .html. Please help
    Thank you
    I am using Win 7 64-bit, the latest versions of Adobe Scout and Flash Player, Chrome 32 / IE 11.
    Also I have made sure that the Scout server is listening, as descibed in the article linked above: Verify that the Scout server listening. Open Scout, and then type localhost:7934 into your web browser. It should respond quickly with "server dropped connection", "no data received", or something similar (since Scout is not an HTTP server). Scout should show the error message "can't start a session because the telemetry data isn't valid". If the browser stalls for a long time, and then comes back with "server not found" or something similar, then the socket isn't working.

    The correct answer is here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21827477/adobe-scout-is-not-starting-a-new-session-for- loaded-swfs

  • [S]Systemd can't start Load Kernel Modules after upgrade to Linux 4.0

    After upgrading from linux 3.19.3-3 to 4.0.1-1 I've been having a bit of an issue. At that same time I upgraded readline (6.3.006-1 → 6.3.008-1), linux-firmware (20150206.17657c3-1 → 20150410.ec89525-1), nvidia (349.16-1 → 349.16-2) , wpa_suplican (2.4-1 → 1:2.3-1), and  arpack (3.1.5-1 → 3.2.0-1). There may be some typos there since I'm copying by hand. Normally this wouldn't be much of a problem because I have been, priory to a few weeks ago, really good about back ups and would just roll my OS back 15 minutes. But things like that tend to fly out the window when the semester gets heavy. My last snapshot was on May 22nd, which I could still use, but would rather not. Also, it seems like a good idea to try to actual fix things for a change.
    [edit] I should mention that this upgrade was run April 30th.[/edit]
    When I finished booting the system after the upgrade, I got an error message during boot “systemd[1]: Failed to start Load Kernel Modules.” When it finished booting I run “dmesg -l err” to confirm that I'm not having a bad day dream or something. I'm also still seeing the errors that I described in this thread. Don't know if the two are related. I also noticed, when I was logging in, that it said that my stystem was still using the old kernel. Indeed, according to “uname -r” I'm still using 3.19.3-3-ARCH.
    The closest thing to experience I have with this is when I forget to mount /boot before upgrading linux, so I made sure /boot was mounted and rand “sudo pacman -S linux” to reinstall, but this didn't help. Just to check I ran “ls /lib/modules” and see the directorys “4.0.1-1-ARCH” and “extramodules-4.0-ARCH” as I would expect after a succesful upgrade of the kernel.
    Running “systemctl –failed, shows that in addition to systemd-modules-load.service, lm_sensors.service has also failed. I somehow expect lm_sensors depends on systemd-modules-load. I tried “systemctl restart systemd-modules-load”, but was rewarded with a message telling me that it failed. The “journalctl -xe” log has the lines
    systemd[1]: system-modules-load[1799]: Failed to look up alias 'sg': Function not implemented
    systemd[1]: system-modules-load[1799]: Failed to look up alias 'nfs': Function not implemented
    Looking at the Wiki for Systemd under troubleshooting it actually has an example of trying to work through this exact issue. Following that I tried
    journalctl _PID=1799
    systemd[1]: system-modules-load[1799]: Failed to look up alias 'sg': Function not implemented
    systemd[1]: system-modules-load[1799]: Failed to look up alias 'nfs': Function not implemented
    which I already mentioned. At this point that bit of the Wiki stopped being useful.
    Looking up on Google Failed to look up alias 'nfs': Function not implemented returned this thread from two years ago. Running “lsmod |grep sg” or $lsmod |grep nfs” returns nothing, but it also returns nothing on this laptop I'm using as well, so I don't imagine that is useful. Also, “# grep nfs /lib/modules/4.0.1-1-ARCH/modules.alias” returns a “Nosuch file or directory” error.
    Searching for something on 'sg' turned up https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=165361, which was also not useful.
    As a sort of last resort I tried https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Do … the_kernel
    I reboot and boot into my fallback installation, running 3.19.3-3, mount the partition with my main Arch on it, and arch-chroot into it.
    I downgraded linux, and nvidia, exited chroot, and rebooted hoping to the Great Bacon that I didn't do anything too damaging. After all, my back ups are more than a week out of date.
    This worked. I'm still getting those annyoing (they are only annoying right?) error messages I mentioned earlier. My system seems fine, if somewhat out of date.
    Still, the question remains, “why did that happen, and how do I actually fix it?”
    [edit2=solution]
    There were two problems. First, my grub.cfg entry was pointing to the wrong UUID. I fixed this by regenerating it. Then I noticed the UUID in the grub menu itself (during the boot prosses) did not match what was in grub.cfg. To fix this I reinstalled grub.
    Last edited by nstgc (2015-05-05 12:07:30)

    Well, I took snapshots, not back ups but they work well enough for this, and rsynced /boot/ to where it use to be, moved/renamed the subvolume boot, and commented out the appropriate line in fstab. I also deleted that other /boot from before. I unmount /boot, and regenerate my grub.cfg. If my machine still boots, I'll try for an upgrade.
    grub.cfg now looks like
    # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE
    # It is automatically generated by grub-mkconfig using templates

    [edit5] My /etc/modules-load.d directory is empty by the way, and "sudo /usr/lib/systemd/systemd-modules-load" returns nothing. Note, this is all while running Linux 3.19, but I believe it should demonstrate that I don't have any special modules running. Or so I believe.

  • [Solved] Gnome 3.14 crashes on session start

    Hello,
    I'm currently experimenting issues on my PC after making an update to gnome 3.14.
    After the update, I'm no longer able to launch any gnome session.
    GDM seems to work fine, but after the login the session launch always crash as I get the famous but not very informative "Oops! Something went wrong..." message.
    ( I also work with 2 others machine under Arch, and this is only time I've encountered such problem with this same update )
    I have little clue on the origin of my problem, but here is the
    journalctl output:

    It is not Xorg.  It looks like Gnome gave up the ghost and exited.  After that, Xorg did what it is supposed to do and exited normally.
    Try deleting or renaming ~/.config/gnome-session and ~/.config/gconf and try again.  (BTW, they are both directories)
    Hello! Thanks for your help.
    Yes, I suspect also the problem isn't within Xorg, since gdm show up fine (it the session launch itself that crashes (with every user though)), and since
    echo "xterm & sleep 10" > ~/.xinitrc ; startx also works fine.
    Unfortunately, I already tried something like that earlier (and tried again after reading your answer), but the session launch crash remains

  • Is there a way to force a new session so my "on new session" code will run?

    I'm using apex.oracle.com and I find values of application (global) and page items persisting across logins.
    I didn't expect that? I thought they would go away when I logged out of APEX. But I can change the values, logout, and log back in to the same values. And when I login and start an application, it's not running my "shared components > application processes" initialization code which is set "on new session".
    I thought each login would be a distinct new session with it's distinct set of items. (see definition below)
    So when I run an application, is there a way to force a new session so my "on new session" code will run?
    >
    What Is a Session?
    A session is a logical construct that establishes persistence (or stateful behavior) across page views. Each session is assigned a unique identifier. The Application Express engine uses this identifier (or session ID) to store and retrieve an application's working set of data (or session state) before and after each page view.
    Because sessions are entirely independent of one another, any number of sessions can exist in the database at the same time. Also, because sessions persist in the database until purged by an administrator, a user can return to an old session and continue running an application long after first launching it. A user can also run multiple instances of an application simultaneously in different browser sessions.
    Sessions are logically and physically distinct from Oracle database sessions used to service page requests. A user runs an application in a single Oracle Application Express session from log in to log out with a typical duration measured in minutes or hours. Each page requested during that session results in the Application Express engine creating or reusing an Oracle database session to access database resources. Often these database sessions last just a fraction of a second.

    I cleaned up the copy of the Select List code in APEX 4.1.xxx which was not operating correctly before. Now it matches what I have in APEX 4.2.yyyy. And, drum roll please, the select list seemingly works fine there (4.1) as well. But now, the initialization code--which was working fine(!)--FAILS in 4.1!

    Okay. Maybe this will help. 1) I logged in. Ran the login page but did not login. Opened the "session" window and wrote down the session ID. Logged out and back in. 2) Ran the login page but did not login. Opened the "session" window and .... it has the same session ID? 3) <b>So the session is persisting across logins!! How is that possible?</b>
    (More) When I log into 3 different applications, I get a different session ID for each but repeated logins always give the same session ID for any given session. </font>

  • Maverick starting to run slow

    I've got a iMac with 8gb installed, a core 3.1GHz i7 processor.
    There are 2 areas where the system is running ridiculously slow, when I start any app. The computer doesn't respond at all for 30 seconds+.
    I've just timed the startup of Lexar's Image Rescue 4 program. From clicking it's icon in the dock it took 50 seconds before the icon started bouncing, 56 seconds for the app's flash window to appear and 1 minute for the main window to appear.
    The other speed issue I have is open and save dialogs. Click Documents, for example, the gear wheel spins for nearly a minute before the folder's contents is displayed.
    Once the programs have started they run fine, no problem. Once Documents contents have been displayed everything runs smoothly (unless you click to a lower level folder in which case that will be slow).
    I can't guarantee it, but I think this all started with the last system upgrade, to 10.9.1 which I installed on 17 December.
    Anyone else getting this problem?

    If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. This procedure is a diagnostic  test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem. The backup is necessary on principle, not because of anything suggested in this comment. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as some other aspects of the configuration that may be pertinent.
    Don’t be alarmed by the seeming complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out. Here's a brief summary: You copy a line of text from this web page into a window in another application. You wait about a minute. Then you paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is copy; paste; paste again. That's all there is to it. Details follow.
    You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken while booted in “normal” mode. If the system is now running in safe mode and is bootable in normal mode, reboot as usual. If it only boots in safe mode, proceed anyway.
    Below are instructions to enter a UNIX shell command. It does nothing but produce human-readable output. However, you need to think carefully before running any program at the behest of a stranger on a public message board. If you question the safety of the procedure suggested here — which you should — search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them.
    The command will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but it's really a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it.
    If you have more than one user, and the affected user is not an administrator, then please run the command twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The administrator is the user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time. If you can't log in as an administrator, just run the command as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    clear; PB=/usr/libexec/PlistBuddy; PR () { [[ "$o" ]] && o=$(sed 's/^/   /' <<< "$o") && printf '\n%s:\n\n%s\n' "$1" "$o"; }; PC () { o=$(grep [^[:blank:]] "$2"); PR "$1"; }; PF () { o=$($PB -c Print "$2" | awk -F'= ' \/$3'/{print $2}'); PR "$1"; }; PN () { [[ $o -eq 0 ]] || printf "\n%s: %s\n" "$1" $o; }; a=$(id | grep -w '80(admin)'); [[ "$a" ]] && sudo true && r=1 || r=; { [[ "$a" ]] || echo $'No admin access\n'; [[ "$a" && !     Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting. The line you pasted will disappear.
    If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter your password, the command will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important.
    The command may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear.
    You can then quit Terminal. The output of the command will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. All you have to do is paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V again.
    Please note:
    ☞ This procedure is all copy-and-paste — type only your login password when prompted. When typing it, you won't see what you're typing. Make sure caps lock is off.
    ☞ Remember to post the output. It's already in the Clipboard when you see "[Process completed]" in the Terminal window.
    ☞ If any personal information, such as your name or email address, appears in the output, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.

  • MacBook Pro starting to run slower

    Hi there,
    I purchased a MacBook Pro beginning of summer last year (2013).
    When I first got it I could easily run and bounce between PS, InDesign and Illustrator at the same time. Now it takes 5-10 minutes to just open one of those and trying to run more than one at a time results in huge delays when switching between programs. (which makes doing work horribly frustrating)
    What can I do to check to make sure everything is okay? Or help fix this issue?
    Thanks
    13" MacBook Pro (Mid 2012)
    2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    4GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
    OSX 10.9.5
    500GB HDD (109GB free)

    OK, first things first: if you come from Windows, you're probably used to leaving a lot of stuff on your Desktop for accessibility's sake, but in OS X, that's a recipe for longer and longer boots.
    In OS X, the Desktop is a folder before it's a backdrop with icons on it. Every time you boot or reboot your Mac, this folder has to be indexed by the OS, to make sure everything's there, all folders are accounted for, at the right place, with the right permissions (more on that later), the right content, etc... Since the advent of Spotlight (OS X's indexing tool), indexing is more or less constant on a Mac, as shown in your screenshot by the amount of memory used by the "mds" processes (parent and child).
    Bottom line is, the cleaner your Desktop, the better. I were you, I'd move all this stuff to, say, your Documents folder, which is accessible from the Dock anyway. You should notice a real change in boot speed just by doing that.
    This said, your RAM usage is really high, and if your Kernel_task process occasionally gets high, on machines as recent as yours, it usually indicates that your CPU is throttling up (to accomodate the need of your running applications in terms of CPU cycles) and down (to prevent overheating).
    This constant rise and fall in the CPU activity is also usually linked to bad ventilation inside your Mac; check if your fans are working, and if the air does come out of the vents. If not, try and do some light cleaning, it can't hurt, provided you do it gently...
    You can try something that won't exactly make your Mac faster, but will let you see if there isn't something wrong with your virtual memory.
    Open Terminal (it's in the Applications / Utilities folder), and copy-paste the following line inside its window:
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.dynamic_pager.plist
    Enter your admin password (it won't show at all, so don't be surprised if the caret doesn't move), press Enter, and reboot your Mac.
    After restart, you'll notice that your applications usually start and run faster, which is normal, because you just have told your Mac to just make do with the physical memory available, and not page on your hard drive at all; RAM is faster than a hard drive (even an SSD), so everything seems faster.
    The more apps you'll run, though, the slower your Mac will get.
    Use your Mac for an hour or two like this, then open Terminal again, and type:
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.dynamic_pager.plist
    Enter your admin password again, press Enter, and reboot your Mac.
    Tell us how it goes from there.
    Now, about permissions: in OS X, every file and folder is attributed permissions, depending on who owns it (root, admin, user). Leaving the system files alone is always best, unless you really know what you're doing. Some files are owned by the administrator (you, I suppose), and can be deleted, moved, edited, etc... by you, but not by another user.
    Some files can't be deleted or modified by regular users, simply because they don't own them. By own, we usually mean those files have been created by one user, and they belong to that user until he/it (in the case of the system) allows another user to run/edit/rewrite them.
    If permissions on a file or folder have been corrupted for one reason or another, when the system checks that file or folder, it finds a discrepancy between what's inside the index of files and the real characteristics of the file or folder. A bit like opening a cardboard box after moving into a new home, expecting it to contain kitchen utensils, and finding your wife's underwear in it instead. Pardon the metaphor, but you'd be surprised if that happened to you; the OS is surprised too when it discovers that a file that's supposed to be rewritable or movable actually can't be, because of a wrong set of permissions.
    One good way to correct those errors is to run Disk Utility (in Applications / Utilities, if it's not already in your Dock), select your MacintoshHD volume, and click on the "Repair permissions" button.
    Depending on how many files and folders you have on your hard drive, this can take a while, but it's usually worth it.

  • ITunes just started to run very slowly on windows XP

    As of today, iTunes has started to run very slowly, on starting, on selecting a song, on any kind of moving around the interface. I can select a new song, it will play, but it takes about 10 seconds for the rest of the graphics to catch up (i.e. for song info to change, or the speaker icon to move to the next song etc). I cannot control what my virus software is doing (corporate computer locked down) but I can tell you it's been fine until today Wednesday 16 August. Running XP, on a Core Duo new Dell Latitude.
    It also takes ages to load now. I tried removing the library, re-installing, updating etc. No avail.
    I note that today I just had a big Windows update done.
    Dell latitude 620   Windows XP Pro   Core Duo

    Any recent changes to your anti-virus/firewall, anti-spyware, anti-adware or other protection software? (Updates, new versions, etc.)
    It sounds like some sort of scanning is going on before these things open.
    I started having overall slower computer problems when I downloaded and installed the instant search feature that's part of Office 2007. Once I uninstalled this add-on things started moving along a little faster.
    But, if you have a large iTunes library it does take a while to load and open the program--especially if it's not part of your startup routine. The iTunes store page loads are a bit more of a mystery--unless you have a firewall scanning issue causing some interference.

  • New session started with an advertizing page and all my tabs are lost

    New session started with an advertizing page and all my tabs are lost. Restore the previous session is not active. How can I restore my tabs?

    This advice might come too late, but, don't exit Firefox! Or if you already did, don't start it back up again!
    ''If Firefox is running:'' Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
    In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listed various files and folders. For best results, change the view to "Details".
    (''If Firefox not running, get to this folder by pasting the following in the Run box on the start menu and pressing Enter: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and then double-click into the most recently updated semi-randomly-named folder you find there.'')
    In the window that launches, scroll down and double-click into the '''sessionstore-backups''' folder. Save all files here to a safe location, such as your Documents folder, so Firefox doesn't overwrite them. We may be able to use them to recover your lost tabs.
    Also, if you return to the main level of the profile folder, you may find some sessionstore files. Copy those to the safe location as well.
    Could you report back on what you found?
    Note: If Windows hides the .js file extension from you, you can change a setting so that you can see all file extensions (this helps when renaming files). This support article has the steps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/865219 or http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions
    The kinds of files you may find among your sessionstore-backup files are:
    * recovery.js: the windows and tabs in your currently live Firefox session (or, if Firefox is closed, your last session)
    * recovery.bak: a backup copy of recovery.js
    * previous.js: the windows and tabs in your last Firefox session
    * upgrade.js-''build_id'': the windows and tabs in the Firefox session that was live at the time of your last update

  • AppleScript - Show/Hide dock when ScreenSharing Session starts/ends

    Hello,
    I'd love to have an Apple Script that shows me my Dock when a screen sharing Session starts, and hides it again when the session ends. And it should do this automatically
    Is there a way to achieve that????
    Thanks a lot

    you can do it as follows.
    download and install DoSomethingWhen
    http://www.azarhi.com/Projects/DSW/
    then paste the following into AppleScript Editor
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #ADD8E6;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    tell application "System Events"
    tell dock preferences
    set autohide to false
    end tell
    end tell</pre>
    save it as an application. then make a rule using DoSomethingWhen to run the above application whenever ScreenSharing launches. ScreenSharing.app is located in /System/Library/Coreservices
    then make another rule for when screen sharing quits (change false to true in the above script for that one).

    it started off running really slow and freezing during programs, and then i started getting error messages every time ibooted the computer, and now 9 out of 10 times i try to bootup orrestartthe computer will freeze and just shows a black screen. only
    computer is a HP pavilion tx2000 (notebook)
    i have used a forum website called spyware ware warrior to try and resolve the issues, which they help check for malware but were unable to resolve what is wrong...
    i would apreciate any help you can give.
    cheers

    Hi Steve,
    I think the most likely answer to solve this problem would be to reinstall the operating system using your Recovery Discs ( not the Recovery Partition on the Hard Drive ) as there are probably corrupt Windows files caused by the malware infection that the system file check cannot detect or repair.
    I realise reinstalling the OS can be a pain, so you may want to try the following first.
    Start the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Hold down the Windows key and press R.  In to the Run box type msconfig and hit enter.  In the following window, click the Start up tab, remove the tick next to each start up item and then click Apply to make the change.  Reboot the notebook and see if it now starts and runs normally.  If it does, re-enable one start up item at a time, click Apply and reboot to check if it still runs ok.  Keep doing this until you encounter the problem again and you will know the last program you set to start is causing the issue.
    If the above process doesn't help, the best option left would be to reinstall the OS - Make sure to backup all your personal files etc first.  If you don't have your Recovery Discs, you can order a replacement set of using the link below - these are around $30 in the US.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00810334&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en
    If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.
    If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
    If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
