Changing VNC Port

Hello. I use VNC from my iPad to connect to my computers. I have two Macs (mac mini, and imac) and two PCs (one desktop and one laptop).
In order to be able to connect to them from outside my network I need to change the VNC port in the screen sharing settings, which I can't, because there is no way to do that in the mac os.
How can I do that?
I use wired networking on both macs.
Thanks in advanced!
Wilfredo Nanita.

Yeah, this one is tricky. I don''t think the built-in Screen Sharing TCP port can be changed. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) You could try another VNC server, something that you can easily change the listening port. I used to use OSXVNC until Screen Sharing became available on Leopard. I don't know if it's still compatible with Snow Leopard, so do some homework before installing.
Some routers have the ability to do a "port translation". I think it was my D-Link router that allowed me to specify the "outside" TCP port and the "inside" TCP port. So "outside" was 5901, and "inside was 5900, which matched what Screen Sharing was expecting, thus no need to reconfig Screen Sharing.
Now, I use a VPN connection to my home. Once the VPN is established, then port forwarding or port translation is not needed and I connect to the machine just like I was on the LAN. (i.e.: 192.168.1.5:5900 for one machine and 192.168.1.6:5900 for the other machine.)
Alternatively, you could forgo VNC altogether and use something like LogMeIn. I have that installed to one of my machines just in case I f-up something on Screen Sharing or the router port forwarding while I'm away. LogMeIn works very well, and is free for use on a Mac or PC, both the host and remote. However from an iPad or iPhone, you need to install their App, LogMeIn Ignition, which is $30.

    Thanks for help in advance.
    Regards
    James

Ya , Manish you are right IWS 4.1 is really old.
But My application has been developed in past that is using IWS4.1 .
Right now , we are not having budget to migrate it from IWS4.1 to IWS6.1.
And the pointer for changing the port from magnus.conf is also correct but
I need to make it default port.
That means If would not specify any port number out of two port request goes to default one.
Right now default port is 443
But I want it to be 445

  • My ISP tells me I need to I need to change the port to send/receive e-mails, but I can't remember my Mail password to add an account. How can I proceed without the password?

My ISP tells me I need to change the port to send/receive mail, as the current port is going to be disabled for security reasons. But I can't remember my Mail password to add an account. How can I add an account when I don't remember my password? It's been several years.

your email password is with your ISP so they can help. but if it is saved in the email app you can just change the ports in the preferneces without a password.

  • My provider changed to pop3 port 995 incoming and port 465 outgoing. Now it no longer works. I went into the Thunderbird 28 beta and changed the ports

I have Thunderbird 28 beta. After changing the ports, I no longer receive mail and this is the error message going out:
    Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server mail.3dcartstores.com timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator.
Passwords have not been changed and I have to login on the web

  • Can't change printer port on Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2

    1. Install "Lexmark X646e Class Driver" using a in-box print driver (i.e. one comes with the Windows installation base) .
    2. Go to "Printer properties" -> "Port"
    3. Select a custom monitor port, and the following error occurs in Event Viewer.
An error occurred while configuring print queue 'Lexmark X646e Class Driver'. Printer driver 'Lexmark X646e Class Driver' may not be used in conjunction with a non-inbox port monitor.
Same steps applied on Windows 8 and Server 2012, and not issues found. The restriction/limitation is newly added in Window 8.1 and Server 2012 R2.
Changing to a custom monitor port after printer driver installation is very important for us.
How can we solve or workaround the above issue, so it can behave like Windows 8 and Server 2012?

What Port Monitor just so I can bubble this information to some others?
    Alan Morris Windows Printing Team
    Hi Alan:
We developed a custom printing system, which involved the following configurations:
    1. Create a custom port monitor on server 2012 r2.
    2. Change an existing print queue to use this custom port monitor, and share this print queue.
    3. All workstations will print to this shared print queue on the server.
The goal is to manage/monitor the print information in StartDocPort for all printing for instance.  This is what we've been doing for a long time.
Now we upgraded our system from server 2012 to server 2012 R2, but we can't change the port monitor to our ones anymore.
I've tried the Type3 printer driver, such as Brother Color Type3 Class Driver, unfortunately it didn't work if the installation is using "Add a printer", and select the driver from the list.
The only way to make it work is to install the printer driver using the one downloaded from the vendor's website, this will bypass Windows "Add a printer".
Is there any chance we can make this to behave like server 2012 or earlier? Modify registry keys?
    Cheers
    Steven

  • How do I change a port in Mac OS X Mountain lion

Apparently Logmein  makes use of port 2002 in mac OS X  Mountain Lion. I need to use that for some new accounting software. How  do I change the part in Mountain Lion and how would I do an install of  Logmein on the computer to use another port or how, with Logmein  currently installed do I change from port 2002 to some other port. The major question is how do you change port assignments in OS x Mountain Lion?
    Thanks for you help.
    Tom in Dallas

There isn't a generic way to do what you want.  Not on Microsoft Windows.  Not on OS X.
The ICANN registry of port numbers exists so that these messes don't happen, or don't happen very often.  So that there are no port conflicts among various applications, and there are ways to request ephemeral (temporary) ports, and (for some applications) to find out which port(s) the application happens to have allocated and is using.  In this case, it appears that folks at LogMeIn and with the accounting software didn't avail themselves of the ICANN port database.  They're using the preferences mechanism as a work-around for that.
Have a look at ipfw and pfctl tools here (see man ipfw and man pfctl at the Terminal.app prompt), and see if you can figure out how you're going to map just one local application that's opening 2002 to some other port, without disturbing the other application that's mapping to that same port (and colliding).  This is the remapping mechanism and akin to what can happen at some firewalls, and not the requested control over the selected port.  It's not set up to remap local application conflicts.
The selected port is either a configuration option within the specific tool, or it's hard-coded within the tool.  There's no generic registry of applications and ports.  That's what the ICANN port registry is for.
The worst-bad-ugly approach is to dump out the executable code, reverse engineer it, and patch the preferred port right into the code; to change the code without using the original source code.  Or some tool-specific configuration file or preferences setting, as and if available.

  • How to change the port in the URL of a BSP Iview

    Hello,
we have several appraisal templates released in our R/3 system and we can access them by the portal.
We are changing our systems and we are implementing a load balanced in order to improve the connections with the portal. So we need to know how can we change the port of the server that appears in the URL when we go to MSS ->teamviewer and select one appraisal to see the information of the template.
We need to change it and indicate the port of the load balanced http://emsapl404pre.endesa.es:8000/sap/bc/bsp/sap/hap_document...) not the port of one of the WAS server as we have now http://emsapl404pre.endesa.es:8302/sap/bc/bsp/sap/hap_document...)
    Thanks in advanced.
    Best regards.

    Hi,
Just view any BSP Application in SE80 and the click on Utilities(M)->Settings.
This will fgive you option to change URL and port number of the URL..
It will be under the Business server Pages tab in the settings window.
    Hope this helps.

  • I am trying to set up my outlook 2007 account on i pad and the process sticks on verifying.  It would appear to be a problem with outgoing server and I have changed the port number but with no success.

I have just purchased an i pad 2 and am having trouble with the e-mail set up.  Set up with wi-fi, i-cloud etc has worked fine but the i pad is recognising my outlook 2007 account details but is not verifying it.  The trouble appears to be with the outgoing server and I have tried changing the port number, but to no avail!  Also reset the account settings for holding messages on the server...help!  As you can tell I'm not very techy and I'm desperate to get the bloody thing working as I'm going away on Tuesday! Any suggestions?

I had a similar issue and it was password case sensitive issue

  • Can't change the port

A while ago, while in a library and trying to iChat/text with my wife and getting errors I attempted changing the port to 443 to solve the issue. It helped and I was able to chat.
Now I'm having problems Vchatting and thought I'd change the port back to 5190. But I can't. When I open preferences and go to server settings and click on the port settings it's like clicking on a frozen window, nothing happens.
I realize changing the ports may or may not solve my problem, but why on earth can I no longer change the port settings?
    Thanks

    Hi Daniel,
You first have to log out of your AIM account.
(you can log out by selecting iChat's pull down menu and select "log out of AIM)
Then you will be able to change the port.

  • Can't change my Port under preferences

    For some reason.
I have chosen my server for outgoing mail, but when I go to advanced to type in the appropriate Port #, the number that is there is shaded and I can't type there. I click the SSL checkbox on and off and the port number changes but incorrectly both times.
Is there a way I can control what port I wanna send my mail through?
    Thanks

You do not have to set up your mail again.
If you scroll down far enough in the screenshots it tells how to access
    the smtp server settings.
NOT on the advanced tab, but under the 'account information' tab.
On the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) pop-up menu (close to bottom )select Edit Server List.
Result: The SMTP Server Options window opens. This window should let you change
    the port smtp uses.
You are not trying to change the smtp port in the correct location if you are seeing the port number 143 was my point.

  • Why does the port settings on my iPad change every time I sync with my computer. After syncing I have to go in and change the port settings so I can send and receive emails on my iPad.

Every time iSync my iPad 2 with my computer it changes the port settings. Has anyone else had this issue?

When you sync the iPad, do you have mail settings configured to sync to the iPad? You could have different settings on your computer that might be affecting the email set up on the iPad when you sync.

  • Is it possible to change the port number of an already installed ITS?

    Hello,
I've done an install of the latest ITS stand-alone application (win2k server , IIS). It was installed on port 81.
Is there an easy way to change the port number of this ITS installation without doing a new install? I know there are port references in the itsregistrywgate.xml file but was not sure if these were maintained during install or by reading the global.srvc file entries.
I've taken the simplistic steps of changing the port number in IIS and the global.srvc file but that does not work. I get a 403.2 read access forbidden error.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Graham

    Hello Graham,
yes, it is possible but depends on what you want.
For IIS, WGate is depending on the following items:
ISAPI wgate (the filter API that triggers on /scripts/wgate) which is normally a general isapi for all webserver instances.
the virtual directory "SAP-WGate-Scripts" which exists for the according "virtual" webserver instance.
the (web)servername in wgate registry, which points to your virtual webserver
the "Port" in the URL section in wgate registry.
So, if you want to change the port (e.g. from 81 to 82) for both your virtual webserver and the wgate then go ahead.
But if you want an extra virtual host (e.g. on 82) then:
create the virtual host on 82
create a "SAP-WGate-Scripts" directory on this 82 host exactly as the one on the 81 host.
change the "Port" in the wgate URL section.
if you also have an own docroot directory you have to copy the SAP mimes from the 81 docroot to the new one.
The only thing that will be wrong afterwards is the webservername, this will have no effect on the runtime behavior but at the next patch install you will get an extra dialog to identify your webserver again.
If you wanted to go for the latter scenario then it might be less work to add a new instance by install e.g. a dual host wgate on the new virtual host or a single host install (with a dummy agate).
Afterwards you can play around with the WGate configuration to change it to your needs.

  • Changing the port number in 10g Discoverer- Middle Tier & Infrasctructural

Earlier I had insalled 10g discoverer which incudes both Middle Tier & Infrastructural Tier with default port numbers.
Now i would like to change the default port numbers to other port numbers. This is because , i am got to do another discoverer installation with default port numers.
In this case i have one question. Is it required to change all the port numbers that exist in the file "portlist.ini" of both Middle Tier & Infrastructural Tier.
What change still i need to do in Oracle 11i application front.
    Thanks
    Naveen

I did troubleshooting to verify the group, but this just changed the port number back to the default in the listener.ora & tnsnames.ora.
So I did all the steps again to change the port number from the default to another - via lsnrctl status, i see that the new port number is being used, I can also log in to the database via Toad using the new port number, in v$parameter i see that the local_listener is registered on the new port number....only under the Fail Safe manager, the port number (under listener parameter) has not changed....it still shows the default port number. Anyone know how to change this???
