Characteristics VS Attributes in Planning Area

Hi All:
We have a situation where we need to have, say ABC KEY as an attribute in our planning area. Since ABC KEY is PLANT/MATERIAL dependent and not just MATERIAL dependent, we will have to add 0MAT_PLANT InfoObject to the PA which will complicate the PA. I am not sure how this will play with InfoObjects 0MATERIAL and 0PLANT infoObjects in the same PA.
Question is, how do you handle attributes that is part of InfoOBjects with multiple key if you want them to be included in the Planning ARea.

Rephrased question will be:
The situation is we need to add 0ABC to the MPOS. But we do not want to add it as a characteristics to the MPOS. We would like to add it as an attribute. What are the issues with it?
I talked to a few friends and they gave me some insight which I have briefed below:
0ABC is an attribute of 0MAT_PLANT. That is, 0ABC is an attribute of a composite characteristic. That characteristic is material AND plant dependent. So, if you add 0MAT_PLANT to the MPOS so that you have 0ABC then you will need to specify a plant or a material to drill-down further in your planning book. That is a pain. So the following are the options I have.
1. Include 0MAT_PLANT as a characteristics in the MPOS and have 0ABC as a characterisitcs and live with the constraint of needing to supply either the plant value or material value to drill-down.
2. Make 0ABC an attribute of 0MATERIAL instead of an attribute of 0MAT_PLANT. In some cases it may not work if the same material has different 0ABC value in different plants.
3. Make 0ABC a characterisic in MPOS and make sure that in the transformation rule to include a routine to populate some constant value if it does not have any value.

DP Planning Area Load using Attributes

We have an APO DP Planning area that is comprised of two characteristics ("Material"; "Mill"). All the data are attributes of one of these characteristics. We chose this for the flexibility of attributes as compared to characteristics and was under the impression this was "the best practice".
I have two questions regarding this:
1) We now have a requirement to populate a new key figure in DP from our sales forecast that is done in BI-IP Planning. The sales forecast is done at the "Brand" level which is above the "Material". It appears I am unable to load my planning area with a cube that does not have matching characteristics. Does anyone have an idea of how to load a planning area above the characteristic level? I think this can be done using SDP94 and the "Save Locally" and "Upload file" options but would like to find a smoother way to do this so I can automate the load via a process chain...
The error I get when I try to load via TSCUBE is:
Planning area and InfoCube must have common characteristic
Message no. /SAPAPO/TSM272
Diagnosis
You are trying to load data from an InfoCube into a planning area. The planning area and InfoCube should be similar. This means that they should have at least one common characteristic. If they do not, it is impossible to map the data.
Procedure
Check the planning area and InfoCube. Make the necessary changes

2) Is using attributes to this level a bad thing from a performance and/or enhancement perspective? I like the fact that things adjust automatically as attributes change but now I am worried we may have over used them... We do notice some speed issues when accessing data at times...

In TSCUBE transaction use the Characteristic Assignment option to map Brand characteristic of infocube to Brand characteristic in Planning Area.

Multiple keyfigure from different planning area based on the attribute value of Cost element charac.
I need to obtain the value of the attribute in a fox function. Let me explain it further.
Background :
Planning area -
Charac----
KF
area1 -
Payscale group--- Amount
Cost element------AmountVR
area2--Payscalegroup----KF1
KF2
KF3
Cost Element has an attribute "Type"
Value for attribute "Type" = 1,2,3
Based on the value of the attribute, the corresponding KF needs to be multiplied.
Logic :
If type = 1.
AmountVR = Amount * KF1.
elseif type = 2.
AmountVR = Amount * KF2.
elseif type = 3.
AmountVR = Amount * KF3.
endif.
The problem I'm facing is that I'm not able to read the data of attribute "Type". None of the below statement retrieve the value of the "Type".
TYPE = ATRV(Attribute,COSTELEMENT,CO_AREA)
or
TYPE = ATRV(Attribute,COSTELEMENT)
Could you please help me in reading from a time dependent compounding InfoObject?

Error /SAPAPO/TSM 041 when loading from InfoCube to SNP planning area

I am using APO V5.1.
I have a 'backup' InfoCube with characteristics 9ARNAME and 9AVERSION which I'm loading to an SNP planning area via trans /SAPAPO/TSCUBE. The InfoCube is itself populated from the 9ARE aggregate of the SNP planning area.
But I get error /SAPAPO/TSM 041when I run the load, suggesting absence of a required characteristic or navigation attribute in the Cube. Do I need 9ALOCNO for instance?
Can anyone advise me here?...

I am not very sure about the 9ARE aggregate (haven't used it in backups), but RTSCUBE is used to copy time Series (TS) KF data from cube to planning area (SNP or DP).
Are you trying to restore some time series data from your backup cube to the planning area? If yes, then do a mapping of characteristic from cube to planning area in RTSCUBE, and also map the TS KF between cube and planning area.
If your KF is not a time series KF, then you can't copy it from cube to planning area. You could get data to cube for some reporting, otherwise I am not sure what use the backup is for you. For SNP, most of the data would be received from R/3, so there's not much point in having a backup.

APO DP - loading InfoCube data into a planning area

I am using APO DP V5.
In my planning object structure I have planning characteristics, some of which have 'navigation attribute' characteristics. For example, my planning characteristic 'product' has navigation attribute 'product group'.
In the standard transaction to load data from an InfoCube to a planning area, can the characteristics used in this transaction be 'navigation attribute' characteristics? (or do they have to be plannng characteristics?)
So, for example, could I load data at 'product group' level?

am not sure if you can load data from cube to a navigation attribute (product group)
you might need to maintain it in the Admin workbench and also assign values there. Am not sure if you will get the attribute characterisitics in yout TSCUBE loading screen

SNP planning Area Backup

Hi All,
     Currently i am working on 5.0 SCM.I have one query.
For Reporting perpose we required to take backup of SNP planning Area,so that i can save SNP planning Area data in Info cube.I would like to see data in Infocube according to Product,Location & Resource wise only. So that i can use this data for reporting perpose.
     Can we create whole data flow process for SNP Planning Area?
     We have lot of Product & resources in APO,so is it feasible to take backup of SNP planning Area?
     I want to take backup of SNP planning area only for reporting perpose,so that i can publish report according to my Product,Location & Resources.
    So kindly suggest proper solution to achive above requirement.

           Only the characteristic/characteristic combinations contained in these aggregates may be used in the InfoSource, transfer structure and transfer rules.The simplest way of doing this is by always generating Export-DataSources for SNP planning areas to one of the aggregates and not to the Basis planning object structure '9ASNPBAS'.A typical result of using the Basis planning object structure '9ASNPBAS' without correcting the transfer structure is that, while data is transferred to a RemoteCube, it cannot be extracted in a BasisCube.
As of APO 3.0 Support Package 17 (or note 443613), only export DataSources for aggregates can be generated in SNP planning areas they are no longer generated for the Basis planning object structure.
Furthermore, note that the navigation attributes 9ATTYPE, 9ALOCTO, and 9ALOCFROM up to APO 3.0 Support Package 17 (or note 441653) must be deleted from the transfer structure for the SNP aggregates '9AMALA' (9AMATNR/9ATRNAME) and '9AMALARE' (9AMATNR/9ATRNAME/9ARNAME). These navigation attributes can be used from the specified correction.
Due to technical restrictions the characteristics '9ATRNAME' and '9ATTYPE' can only be restricted with single values in the selection for the data extraction.The use of intervals and formatting characters (+/*) is not allowed for these characteristics.
      2. For an SNP aggregate, only the key figures assigned to it can be extracted. You can see which key figures are assigned to an aggregate in transaction /SAPAPO/MSDP_ADMIN on the Key figure assignment tab of the relevant planning area. As of APO 3.0 Support Package 17 (or note 439366), only the key figures assigned to this aggregate are taken into account when an export DataSource is being generated for aggregates.
      3. During the definition of queries, the following restrictions apply:
           In the case of queries for the aggregate '9AMALA', certain key figures can only ever be extracted with another key figure.The key figure combinations that can only be extracted together are:
          o (9AFSHIP, 9ADMDDF, 9ADMDDFVMI)
          o (9AFSHIPLP, 9ADMDDFLP)
          o (9AFSHIPVMI, 9ADMDDFVMI)

Getting an error while activating a planning area "Enter values for planning horizon From and planning horizon To for the storage time profile level"

Dear S&OP community,
I am getting following error while creating a planning ares in a newly installed sandbox. "Enter values for planning horizon From and planning horizon To for the storage time profile level".
This what I did...
1) Created new attributes and master data objects and activated them successfully.
2) Time profile created and activated successfully
3) Trying to create planing area by assigning time profile in step 2 and assigned master data from step1..Unable to save the data and system returns
this error - "Enter values for planning horizon From and planning horizon To for the storage time profile level"
My understanding is time profile needs to be active but doesn't have to have values...
Any help is appreciated.

Hi Babu,
The file format should be same as you want to upload. The sequence of File format should be same communication structure.
Like,
Initial columns with Characteristics (ex: plant,location,customer,product)
date column (check for data format) (ex: calander)
Last columsn with Key figures (history qty)

Urgent - 'Distribute' Function is reffering to wrong planning area

Dear Consultants
I have problem with 'Distribute with Key' function.
I am using Actuals cube and Planning cube in my multiplanning area. I like to distribute planned quantity from material level to sales office level. No selections for planning area, year and verion at planning level or package.
In the Distribute function, I am using Sales Office characteristics as field to be changed and Planning Area,Year, Version characteristics as Fileds for condition. I am restricting the planning area to my planning data and year and version to planning year and version in the function.
While executing this function, it selects data records from the Actuals Cube, ignoring the values set in the function for planning area, year and version.
Please guide.

Hello,
In case you don't want to work with your actuals cube for this function, I think you should select the area (and year, depending if you distribute on the same year or not...)in the planning level.
I think that (please somebody correct me if I'm wrong) the data that is taken into account by your function is what is selected in the level, then, the function runs for its own (sub)-selection.

How to copy data from one planning area to other planning area

Hi ,
I need to copy data from one planning area to other planning area, the MPOS for two planning areas are differant and here my scenario is one planning area having extra key figures.
First i need to release forecast data to CIP planning area and then, i load the data from infocube to MPS planning area and copy the data from CIP planning area. here both MPS and CIP planning areas having different MPOS .
Please help me in this. Please give me the stepls i need to follow.

Hi,
You can use the transaction /sapapo/tscopy.
In this you can configure your source plng area and destination plng area. You also have an option to map your KF. There is no problem if the MPOS are different as long as you are able to map the characteristics between the 2 MPOS.
Alternatively, you can create an Infocube which shares common ground between the 2 planning areas and extract data from CIP plng area into the infocube and then copy teh data from infocube to MPS plng area using the the transaction /sapapo/tscube.

Problem in developping Multi Planning area

Hi, experts,
I have a question regarding as the multi planning area ->
I have created a mullti planning area which include two basis area:
A for plan data (transactional cube)---> Charateristic: Material, 0CALYEAR/ KF: Price
B for actual data (non-trans cube)---> Charateristic: Material, Fiscal year/period/ KF: Quantity
My requirement is:
I would like to display the the quantity for a certain material for Fiscal year/period= [001.2009,012.2009] from Cube B, at the same line, i should be able to input the Price for 0CALYEAR 2010 into Cube A.
My question is:
how should I define the value of these two characteristics which restrict these two KF respectively ?

As per my experience,you get this error message "Characteristic combinations cannot be assigned to any basic area",only when you have any characteristic present in one cube and not in another and then you try to post some values for it in the cube where it doesn't exist.With your example I guess there could be an issue with 0CALYEAR and Fiscal year/period.
Secondly you cann't post data to non transactional cubes which I guess you are trying to do so ,when you say post in same line mean the granularity of the record which you want to write can be like:-
FrmCubeA/BFrmCubeBFrmCubeAFrmCubeBFrmCubeA
Material1Fiscal year/period0CALYEARQuantityPrice
The above scenario where u are trying to get the data from both the cubes and post value to Cube A for price is not possible,as cube is non-transactional cube.
You can Include the Fiscal year/period and quantity in your real time cube CubeA ,copy the data using multiprovider into CubeA from CubeB for material and then u can plan price.

Material number are same but attribute of materials are different.

What if we have two system connected with APO with similar material numbers but in fact different material in description.
I mean, numbers are same but attribute of materials are different.
How to address it in APO.....?

An SCM system (APO) can be integrated with multiple ECC systems (logical
systems). It may therefore be the case that the number assignment for certain
master data objects, for example, material masters, is not the same in all these
logical systems. In the example above, material number A in logical systems 1
and 2 signifies the same cube, whereas the same material number in logical system
3 (perhaps a subsequently purchased plant) is a cylinder.
If logical systems 1, 2 and 3 are planned with the same SCM System, the problem
arises that the system cannot simply transfer the ECC material numbers into APO,
as they may be ambiguous.
To guarantee that the naming of master data in distributed system landscapes is
unique, business system groups are defined in APO as areas of the same naming
convention. A Business System Group (BSG) groups different physical systems to
form a higher-level logical unit.
If, for example, two logical systems (LS1 and LS3) exist in a system landscape in
which you want to integrate APO and contain different materials with the same
name (Material A is a cube in LS1, but a cylinder in LS2), this conflict must
be resolved for integration in APO. First of all, both logical systems are to be
assigned to different business system groups (BSG1 and BSG2).

Variable in planning area

Hi,
How to give a variable for eg: target currency in the multiple planning area. This variable should be filled by fixed value USD. Based on this calculations are done and the output should be amount in usd.
As variables types are characteristic values, hiererchy, numetic values and attributes. how to get this. I don't have any characteristic to be assigned to the variable in the infocube. The variable should be like static with fixed value USD.
How to achieve this?

There are no values for 0currency in my cube. So i can't use this infoobject. My requirement is to convert the amount into currency USD.
If there is no variable for this not a problem. But i have to use fox or exit function to read data for the user enter variables version, cycle and get the amount converted into USD.
Any help will be appreciated.

STS Limitation for Multi Planning Areas

Is there a problem when using multi planning area based applications in the STS?

in SAP-libary under Customizing the Status and Tracking System /Prerequisites you have the following text:
The planning area of the characteristics and key figures that you access in the Status and Tracking System must be a basic planning area. You cannot use multi-planning areas in the Status and Tracking System.

Problem in creating time series objects for a planning area

Hi Friends,
I am working on SCM 4.0 APO. I am trying to create the time series objects for a 'Z'planning area which i have created. This Planning area is linked to a planning object structure which contains only three characteristics 9amatnr,9alocno & zplnpart. But the creation of time series objects is taking a long time. the screen just remains the same.
Can anybody encountered such a problem any time?
request you all to put some light as what could be wrong or causing the delay in creating them???

I am asking because these aspects might affect the running time of the time series creation. Have you also tried creating the time series in the background? How long did it take there?
