Checkbox GONE! No opt-out for McAfee now! WHAT???

I can't belive this! I just updated my Flash Player to v. 11.7.700.169 I've been using FP for over ten years, and have long despised the perpetual attempt to install McAfee Security Crap as some bundled "feature". BUT having the ability to uncheck the option, I learned to keep my focus on my work and not let it throw me any more. NOW, the update process did not EVEN GIVE ME THE OPT-OUT. As soon as I clicked on the installer EXE, a progress window poppeed up with two lines: one for FP and one underneath that for CrapAfee. The progress lines started filling in from 0% to 100%. Because I have a very fast internet connection, BOTH DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED BEFORE I COULD STOP IT!!! ARRRRRRGHHHHHHH!!! I FEEL LIKE MY COMPUTER HAS BEEN RAPED! WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO DO THIS??? I AM FURIOUS! Has Adobe lost its mind? Seriously, this is the stuff of CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS. I know McAfee has a lot of experience in those!

No opt-out for cloud? I am incensed.

I bought a Cicsco/Linksys EA4500 router a few weeks ago based on good reviews on Amazon. I see now that the package probably said something about the cloud but if I saw it I'm sure I assumed it was some feature for which I would not sign up.
At no time was I advised that the cloud would be mandatory with no opt-out once it rolled out. This morning I see that I am being prompted to either sign a new EULA or roll back to firmware that Cisco will probably not support. This is completely unacceptable. The Cisco cloud may be really cool and awesome but the fact remains that the product I bought has been disabled by Cisco and it appears I have no way to make it functional without agreeing to new terms.
I would not be upset at all if the cloud sign up page had a "Not now" checkbox so that I could sign up at my leisure. I have no interest in sharing data with Cisco and even less interest in making my routers accessible from anywhere outside of my local LAN.
If I still have the packaging for it I'm returning it today.

jawhitti, before you return your router, read what has happened since Cisco forced the cloud firmware (Cloud) on all of us unexpectedly. We share the same feelings as you and have been trying since Wednesday to get the original firmware, we call it the Classic firmware, posted. Finally on Friday Cisco publically posted the Classic firmware. Many of us have upgraded from the Cloud firmware to the Classic firmware and now our routers behave as we bargained for when we made the purchase.
However there remains one last piece to make everybody whole and that is an update to our Classic firmware that contains the fixes that were in the Cloud firmware. I personally think Cisco didn't foresee the firestorm of protest from its Cloud program. Again, if you read the posts you will see how many angry users and companies' IT people are responding. I am hopeful Cisco will make the right decision at the beginning of next week and provide the Classic firmware with the fixes. I feel Cisco knows that their Cloud strategy may have not been fully thought through and will proceed in a far more user-friendly way.

Opt IN vs Opt OUT for McAffee Virus Scanner

Each time I update the Flash player Adobe attempts to get me to install a virus scanner. I don't want it. Sometimes I don't notice the box is already checked and the virus scanner install starts.
Why can't Adobe be user friendly and make it an opt IN rather than opt OUT.
It makes Adobe look like one of the bogus download sites that try to install crapware.

Amen. Now it doesn't give you a choice it just automatically downloads. In the past there was a check to toggle on and off. Now it just assumes. Atleast have it check for an anti-virus program that is already on the system. This is wrong on many accounts, and am leaning more towards the HTML 5 player now because of this invasive bull crap!

No Option To Opt Out Of McAfee Plus Installation!

If you read these forums you will see this issue quite a lot. The response from Adobe is that there will always be an option during installation to opt out of the installation of McAfee Plus. Adobe even provided screen shots to prove this fact. Well today I was finally given the option to update my Flash Plug In when I booted my computer. Since I was aware of this issue I decided to see for my self if I was given this opt out option during the installation of the latest Flash. So was I given the choice to opt out?
NO! And here is the screen shoots to prove that there was no option nor anything mentioned about McAfee anywere!
The only thing I see is the offer to try out Adobe PhotoShop Lightroom 5 for free, nothing mentioned nor checked about McAfee anywere. Next screen once I click the update button is this:
Still no option, what happens here is that the installation of the .exe file starts and the save dialog pops up to save the installer.
Once I downloaded the installer this page is showing:
There I am only given instructions to locate and click the .exe file. Nothing mentioned about any McAfee.
I have no screeners for the actual install. But what happened when I clicked the .exe file was that a installation window opened where I saw 2 progress bars one for the installation of Flash and one for the installation of McAfee. I had no option to terminate the McAfee installation.
(The screeners above are in Swedish since I have a Swedish system but I hope you can still see there is nothing about McAfee in there).
So Adobe why are you claiming that we have an option to opt out when there is no such option? At least there was none for me!
I have since un installed the McAfee Plus from my machine!
I do not think this is acceptable behaviour for an installer coming form a supposedly serious and established company such as Adobe!

I am aware of those links. That is the method I normally use to install Flash Player on my Windows 7 machine. But since I saw posts here were users reported that when using the regular updater they were not given the option to opt out but Adobe claims that you should be given the option to opt out and also provided a screen shot to prove it. So I wanted to see for my self if I used the regular updater that comes up with a prompt on your desktop when you boot your computer, if I would be given the choice to opt out. It turned out that no I were not given any information to opt out of the McAfee Plus download. So I wanted to show other users as well as Adobe that what Adobe claims about the opt out option is not accurate. At least it was not for me and I presume many others who have been complaining about this.
The regular updater is what the vast majority of users are going to use to update their Flash players. So most users would never look for any offline installers. So when expert users here in the user forums recommend the offline installers instead that is kind of irrelevant for most users because most users are not going to visit these forums and the most of them will be using the Adobe updater option.
This was just an experiment from my side to find out if I would experience the same as many others have reported. And it turned out that I would!
I do not think it is ok for a software company especially not a supposedly big and serious one such as Adobe to include adware in their installations with no option for the user to be informed nor given the choice to opt out of it. Is that even a legal thing to do in the US? Adobe have claimed with the help of screenshots that users are given the option to be informed about and have the ability to opt out of the McAfee Plus installation. But that does not seem to be the case atleast not for me (and many others) when it installed on my machine running 64 bit Windows 7 and Google Chrome as the browser. So Adobe are not being honest about this situation.

Adobe Acrobat updates - opt ins or opt outs for Google Chrome?

Hi - anybody else fed up that when accepting one of the many Adobe Acrobat updates that the flag is set for also installing Google products? These should be set as opt ins, not as opt outs, and I find this intrusive. It's time wasting having to uninstall these products, and also fill in a lengthy questionnaire why you are uninstalling the product you never wanted to install in the first place!

Opting out for mortgage

What are the benefits of opting out before applying for mortgage?
I've read it helps prevent new things from appearing then I read it does nothing, CAs can still see your mortgage application....

I have read that it is a good practice and I will be doing it for my next mortgage / refi. It's been awhile since I was in the mortage app scenario but I did have 2 old small jdb situations pop up, and yes, I did settle them in full as quickly as possible. Both were old and well past the SOL and not on my CRs, but became critical once the lender pulled the CR and then went back in later and saw it. Both became 'conditions of approval' so I paid it quickly. And I did not recognize the debts or the CAs and did not see them on my CRs in the months before the mortgage app, but since they were both under 100, they got paid without further question, and the mortgage was approved. I will be doing the 'opt out' a couple weeks before my next app, kind of like why I get a flu shot every year, just for prevention. hth

I filled out the form - now what?

Ok my 2 weeks in and 'speed of light' Infinity 2 is now crawling along at 8Mbps, I've filled out the 'contact us' form and its been 24hours and I've heard nothing.

How long are you normally expected to wait for even a confirmation that someone is doing something about it?

If it was the contact form for the forum mod team then it is normally about 3 working days as all mails are dealt with strictly in turn also if it was that form you would have had a confirmation immediately you sent the contact form as it opens a new web page with a reference number on it and also you will be personally contacted by phone or email

IOs 7 refusing to install ?? Need my phone for business now whats up apple?

Today I updated my iTunes to 11.1 and it refused to do so also but eventually I got it up and going then I went and downloaded iOs 7 through iTunes which worked fine untill it came time to install it , it got like 5% of the way then crashed and gave me an error i didn't look closely bur im guessing it is 9006 now my phone is locked on the black update screen with the the apple. This is beyond frustarating I needed my phone about an hour ago I run my own **** business and bought an iPhone for the fact that they claim to make everything user friendly and simple for everyone first iTunes takes an Arm and a Leg to download and now iOs refuses to go on good thing I backed up my phone. I really need some help here urgently and am open to anything. Also will I still mainain my contacts when the update is done because im not even sure I want to use my backup if it works just for fear of something screwing up and my phone being unusable. I really need help urgently.

there is a massive amount of traffic trying to go through apple's servers right now. this is causing issues for a lot of users, and is probably contributing to your issue. this will be cleared up once there are less people attempting to update and activate ios7. until then, the only option is to wait. sorry for your frustration, but unfortunately it seems there are a lot of users that are experiencing the same issue as you.

Swapped out hard drive now what ...

Hey everyone I took my 20gb out of my PB G3 Lombard and put it into my iBook 500 and it worked for a while then got VERY hot , way hotter than the old drive in it which was the original 10 GB . It then started to lock up after about a couple of weeks of use . It got worst and I tried to reinstall the OS and it got to almost the end and stopped , you could tap the left palmrest ( were the hard drive is ) and it would go for a sec or two and then stop , tap again then then would stop again until finally it wouldn't budge . I took the original and put it back in and put the 20GB and put it back in my Lombard, tapped it and it started and finished the install and has been running cool and fine ever since . Please, I want to replace the hard drive but not have this happen again . The 20 was a PATA Travelstar . Any guess as to what went wrong ?

I should add that I really like people keeping older hardware performing useful tasks. Heck I still boot up my 1986 MacPlus every so often and use a mid 90's mac as an email server much of the time. But I don't think this drive is worth spending time on. Too small and showing very serious signs of wear and tear. It is simply not worth the trouble or the risk. I can pretty much guarantee it will let you down within the next few months if you use it in any important role.

Firefox has been crashing nonstop for days now - what is the problem? I downloaded 4 and it's even worse now!

It is not just one site I am in - it just keeps crashing - asks me if I want to start over or go back but never goes back so have to completely get back into mail or whatever. It's becoming very annoying and will have to go to another internet site because this is just not right.

Using ATV as media player exclusively for years, now what?

My G5 crashed more than a year ago. I was using my ATV and imac together flawlessly. Since the crash, I was unable to afford a new one, so I was using the ATV as my only link to the internet and purchased quite a bit of media from itunes. I finally have a computer again, albeit a PC but would like to get the purchases back to a itunes library on the computer. I am aware I cannot get the pictures and non-itunes music back, but can I get the music and videos I bought back on to a PC before the 1st gen ATV crashes too?
Im aware that I can search the itunes store for every song/album I've bought and act like Im purchasing it again, and it sometimes says, " youve already purchased this song, would you like to download it again?" and sometimes it says, " youve already purchased this song, would you like to purchase it again?"
Any ideas? I've spent too much $$$ on this media to purchase it again or walk away from it.

Some people have reported that setting up a new Computer to sync will not delete items that are purchased but have not transferred back to iTunes.
I have not been in this situation so cannot confirm, but one would hope that this is the case - clearly other material such as photos/non Tunes music will delete in preparation for a new sync library, as perhaps will any previously purchased content you had already transferred to he iMac.
You may want to contact iTunes Store support and ask them if it's safe to do this - if they say yes non-transferred material will not be deleted, then at least you have some bargaining power if things don't go as planned to potentially re-enable downloads from iTunes on the new computer (their discretion entirely though).
There are unsupported free and commercial hacks for AppleTV that may allow you to directly access the AppleTv hard drive content but they are not necessarily straightforward without some technical knowledge but might let you recover all content. If the other content such as photos is of value to you, you may want to consider this course, but no guarantees of success and we can't go into detail here.

I just mention this as when you set up a new sync connection it will erase stuff transferred from iTunes.

PS CS6 Filters greyed out for Timeline clips - what's wrong?

I've just watched an Adobe TV video by Julianne Kost about video features in PS CS6.
At one point she converts a video clip into a Smart Object in order to apply a PS filter, but when I do this, the entire Filters menu is greyed out.
The mp4 clip plays normally in the Timeline otherwise.
Is there something I have to do to make this work?

Icloud control panel not an option for me now what????

We are running and exchange server XP Pro and Outlook 2003 is all I have at work. I don't have access to Vista or Windows 7 nor outlook 2007 or 2010. All want to do is transfer my yahoo calendars to icloud calendars. From the searches I did I found I had to download the icloud control panel which I can't do becuase of hte software I am forced to run for work.
Can anyone tell me if there is a way (besides opening each yahoo event and switching it on the iphone to an icloud calendar) to transfer my yahoo calendar to an icloud calendar??

There is not, Vista or Lion are the minimum requirements, use Yahoo's sync services instead.

Animatics Smartmotor, Out of Box, Now What.

I installed the SMI (smart motor interface) software that comes with the motor. That works well enough, as soon as I start the software and plug in motor I can type in the SMI's ASCII command:

I want to use LabView to command the motor. My assumption was to make a VI that did serial communication and send the same ASCII syntax commands via serial write, etc. See attached VI.
I get no reponse, I have no idea what is going on, OR what I am really doing for that matter...
Is this possible and the right direction? Can I not use SMI and instead just use LabView serial write/read commands to communicate with it? Or is the SMI software doing other tricks behind the scene I am unaware of?
I'm a novice.

The first thing that we should check would be to make sure that you have the VISA driver downloaded.
Depending on your version of LabVIEW, you can get the driver here.
The LabVIEW compatibility sheet for the VISA driver can be found here.
If you do indeed have that downloaded, then the next thing to check would be to make sure you are using the correct termination characters for your device. You will be able to find this in the manual for your Smartmotor. The SMI software most likely knows that termination characters to use.
Also, there is an example already created in LabVIEW that will do serial reads and writes. You can find it by going to Help >> Find Examples... >> Hardware Input and Output >> Serial >> Basic Serial Write and Read.VI.
