Checking the size of Oracle XE Database
Hi,
I installed oracle 10g express edition on a Linux machine couple of weeks ago.
Installation was successful oracle is running fine. Now I am concious about the limitation of 4 GB data size in XE.
DBConsole is not running, i am working on it. But want to know the existing DB size from sql.
Kindly let me know the query that can give me the exact size of database.
I will be very thankful.
Regards, Imran
Hi,
select sum(bytes)/1024/1024 from dba_data_files;
select sum(bytes)/1024/1024 from dba_SegmentsThe first query would give you total space allocated to your database.
The second query would give you total space used by database objects.

How to check the datfiles from oracle SQL Developer(enterprise Manager)
hi,
Iam using Oracle SQL Developer as enterprise manager in my local pc.I want to check the size of datafiles using this enterprise manager.could u pls help me out..
Thanks in advance ,
R.RatheeshWhat?
Sql developer is not enterprise manager.
Size of datafiles? Read the documention, and read the concepts and administration manuals for your release.
I am not going to provide links, because you have not given your database version number and secondly if you found this forum you can find the docs.
But I will give you a clue....DBA_DATA_FILES...

Checking the size of the object
Hi all , i need to check the size of the Oracle internal table for the text index created .
dr $r --table
option 1:
SELECT S.bytes Bytes, SYSDATE FROM DBA_SEGMENTS S, DBA_LOBS L WHERE l.TABLE_NAME='DR$TEXT_SEARCH$R' AND l.SEGMENT_NAME=S.SEGMENT_NAME;Option 2:
select bytes from dba_segments where segment_name='DR$TEXT_SEARCH$R'for 1 i got 7670000000
for 2 i got 655366
Which i correct to identify the size of this tableHello,
In fact you have one Segment for the TABLE and another one Segment for the LOB related to this Table.
Your two queries don't return the same value because they don't deal with the same Segment.
If you execute the query below, you may see the name of the LOB Segment related to the Table:
SELECT S.bytes Bytes, S.segment_name FROM DBA_SEGMENTS S, DBA_LOBS L
WHERE L.TABLE_NAME='DR$TEXT_SEARCH$R' AND L.SEGMENT_NAME=S.SEGMENT_NAME;Hope this help.
Best regards,
Jean-Valentin

HELP !!! How to check the size of an object in Photoshop ?
Hello,
I'm using Photoshop CS 3 to design a website. I used several shapes such as rectangle, line or ellipse of different size. Probably it is a stupid question but I don't know how to check the size of an existing rectangle. I tried free transform tool that selects my rectangle but doesn't show its size. Then I made a selection with rectangular marquee tool but I see nowhere the size of the selected area.
If you know the name of such a tool please help me !
Have a nice day !Web images are all pixels. View at 100% at pixel view. that is your exact size

Checking the size of the infocube
Hi,
How can we check the size of the infocube with large volume of data? From the SAP standard practice what is the optimal size that an infocube can consist of data with out an impact on the query performance?Hi
When estimating the size of an InfoCube one must consider the size of the fact table and dimension tables. However, the size of the fact table is the most important, since in most cases it will be 80-90% of the total storage requirement for the InfoCube.
The following shows how to calculate the size of an InfoCube, including the dimension tables and the fact tables.
Size of a dimension table
To calculate the size of a dimension table:
u2022 The size of one record of the dimension table can be calculated by summing the number of characteristics in the dimension table at 4 bytes each. Also, add four bytes for the key of the dimension table.
u2022 Calculate the number of records in the dimension table
u2022 Multiply the size of 1 record by the number of records
Assume that the dimension table indexes will take up as much space as the dimension table itself.
Size of a Fact Table
To calculate the size of a fact table:
u2022 Count the number of key figures the table will contain, assuming a quantity key figure requires 9 bytes, a currency key figure requires 9 bytes, and other numeric fields require 4 bytes (or more).
u2022 Every dimension table requires a foreign key in the fact table, so add 4 bytes for each key. Donu2018t forget the three standard dimensions.
u2022 Add these figures together to get the size of 1 record
u2022 Calculate the number of records in the fact table
u2022 Multiply the size of 1 record by the number of records
Assume that the fact table indexes will take up as much space as the fact table itself. This is more index space than is usually required in most OLTP systems. In the fact table, many of the columns will be foreign keys with pointers to dimension tables. Each of them will have an index.
Add an additional 150% for temporary table space and aggregate tables. An aggregate contains both new dimension and data tables. A rule of thumb is that all the aggregates will be the size of the fact table.
Hope this Helps

I see in the above log that saying ASM instance is down and failed to open +DATA .
But the asm instance up and running
SQL> select instance_name,status from v$instance;
INSTANCE_NAME STATUS
+ASM1 STARTED
And we havent created any disk named DATA before the installation. We have created only below two disks
SQL> select name,header_status from v$asm_disk;
NAME HEADER_STATUS
ASM_DATA MEMBER
FLASH_RECOVERY MEMBER
But I am seeing a diskgroup in the v$asm_diskgroup which we havent created.
SQL> select name,state from v$asm_diskgroup;
NAME STATE
DATA MOUNTED
Ya this is a second time installtion. In the first installtion we created the asmdisk as DATA. But later everything (RAW device ) was formatted and this new disks has been created and installtion again started
[root@SFV9699 bin]# oracleasm listdisks
ASM_DATA
FLASH_RECOVERY
Seems like its trying to read the old disk DATA.
we have done asmscanning too with oracleasm scan disks. but no use.
Where I can remove the old entry of DATA disk.
It would be a great if a quick response get.
Thanks
SHIYAS MThe permission looks fine. If it was permission issue then y it is trying to read the DATA disk which I havent created this time at all ( But created in the first installation).

Counting the size of tablespaces and database
hi,
can any one help me with this..
to write a shell script that counts the size of the tablespaces (excluding the oracle tablespaces like system, sysaux) and come up with the individual database size of evrey databse and mail to team on every month of 2nd for each database.
thanks in advance..to write a shell script that counts the size of the tablespaces (excluding the oracle tablespaces like system, sysaux)To do so requires one to know which shell you use.
Since you declined to share that with us, You're On Your Own YOYO)!
How does script know/decide which DBs exist on any system?

How to set the environment for Oracle XE-database.
Hi,
I have a:- lsnrctl command not found,
And when I echo oracle host & path I got:-
[oracle@ddcdevws02 etc]$ echo $ORACLE_HOST
[oracle@ddcdevws02 etc]$ echo $PATH
/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/u02/oracle/bin
Now I know that my environment is not set, but could anyone please assist me how I can set the environmernt ??? I mean commands or detailed instruction step as to what needs to be set where & how, I mean the SID, port, Path ???, I am new to Linux as well as database .
When I see the listener process using this:- ps -ef | grep tnslsnr, this is the output:-
[oracle@ddcdevws02 ~]$ ps -ef | grep tnslsnr
oracle 14727 1 0 14:25 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER -inherit
oracle 22618 21569 0 15:59 pts/2 00:00:00 grep tnslsnr
So does this mean that my Oracle home is "/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/" ???
Also In the host file under /etc/ directory I have these settings
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
10.201.60.21 ddcdevws02.hddev.healthdialog.com ddcdevws02
I don't know if this is correct or not ? But I doubt I could make any change in the host file, please suggest me.
Thanks

I am sorry Ed I reliazed that that was Phirir's suggestion to me, & Yes this is XE-Oracle database .... so the sid name would be "XE" ...?? I am sorry for my stupid questions as I am very new to ths .
I've never worked with XE, but from everything I've seen, that would also be your SID. check the contents of /etc/oratab
And then what other details required after I run this command ". oraenv", can I run this from any directory or some specific location ?
Just like any command, you can run it from anywhere as long as the directory is in your PATH.
But actually, you should be setting this in your profile, so that you just inherit it when you log on to the server. Depending on your OS, that would be either $HOME/.profile or $HOME/.bash_profile. Here are the commands you should have in that file:
export ORACLE_HOME=pathtoyouroraclehomedirectory
export ORACLE_SID=nameofyouroraclesid
export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH>
well I have this infor. with me
HTTP port ---> 8080
Port fopr Database ----> 1521
Anythin else required ? -

any help wpould be appreciate

rommyHi,
If your requirement is to insert in one table and if the record exists insert into other table the merge statement doesn't work
Example (please check the column name and parameter names). I don't put commit or rollback because I don't know if you control the transaction inside this procedure or outside it.

Hallo on the photo you can see numbers written like 10E+5 etc. Like I have done the 10^5 shall be written in front of the unit and not after the numbers. The channel is created with Diadem Analysis Thank You
