Choosing a CASE tool

I'm looking for a CASE tool for JDeveloper.
Any suggestions, comments, solutions, dislikes, ... about it?
Thanks. Miquel.

Miquel,
There are several choices that you may
want to consider.
Try a JDeveloper Partner addin which integrates Oracle JDeveloper and Rational Rose. This can be found by visiting: http://www.ensemble-systems.com
Another choice is to wait a bit and Oracle JDeveloper will include an integrated repository and UML modeler in the next year.
You may also be able to use other third party solutions but you will not have any direct integration.

  • RE: CASE Tools

We use Paradigm Plus & it seems to do a pretty good job. There are a few
problems with their round trip engineering piece(Forte to Paradigm &
Paradigm to Forte), but for the most part it works well. We are
scheduled to get the latest release(4.0 I think) in a week or so &
hopefully that will be fixed. It does have some quirks, but we've found
work arounds for most everything. I don't think you will find a CASE
tool or any software for that matter, that does everything you want &
    doesn't have any quirks.

    Subject: CASE Tools
We are about to embark on a major conversion and remodelling of our
existing one and a half million line Cobol system, into a Forte
    system.
We would like to use a CASE tool to help us design things, but we need
    one
that is reasonably closely linked with Forte so that changes in TOOL
    can
be easily integrated back into the design.
Are we dreaming here, or has anyone found a decent CASE tool that
    achieves
this? Do people use CASE tools at all? Are they used purely as a way
    of
creating the class attributes and method stubs? Or do people use them
post-development to document what they've done?
We have looked at SELECT, which seems pretty good, but it's still a
    bit of
fiddling to control the flow of information between it and Forte.
I'd be interested in any comments.

The previous company I was with we started out using SELECT because at

Actually, is not accurate. Even during my Forte beta days (1993) we were using a
forte generator from the Pardigm Plus folks (we, felt like we were helping debug the
    product back then).
    When Ration
Rose came out with a version that included Forte code generation, about
    6 months
later, we looked at it and eventually switched to Rose, mostly due to
    performance
    issues with SELECT.
Both products required some tinkering to get Forte code generated, but
Rose has more options. Reverse engineering existing code into the CASE
tools is also about the same for both products. Neither one has a
complete round trip feature that we could ever get to work without
blowing away code that had been written.

Can anyone tell me the site address.Right now Oracle has 3 official 'case' tools.
Oracle Designer is part of the Developer Suite (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/designer/index.html) is extremely comprehensive, but few bother to learn it properly and many seem to think it is "not best neither ...".
Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/datamodeler/index.html) is the new one, an offshoot of SQL Developer.
Oracle JDeveloper has a built-in UML tool as well as other visualization and documentations tools (especially related to SOA and BPEL), and given that JDeveloper is free that makes this variant the least cost of the three.
There are a lot of other CASE tools on the market, and which one is 'best' depends a lot on what you are trying to accomplish.
For Oracle tools, Oracle Designer is very good if your development platform is ORacle Forms. The built-ins in JDeveloper are excellent if you concentrate on Java, JEE and JDeveloper.
If yo want more discussion around the Oracle tools, go to the appropriate forum.

There is one more tool by name Enterprise Architect which supports UML2.0. A 30days eval copy is available. You can try hands on it.

  • Any CASE tools for Java, JSP, and JavaBeans?

For Java, JSP, and JavaBeans can we find something that can help us automate certain tasks?
For example, CASE tools is an acronym for Computer Aided Software Engineering tools. I have a colleague use software to generate robust code for the database layer and with a few clicks of a button after the database is designed he can generate code that would otherwise take an hour or even hours to write and debug and test.
Thanks for your time and help in advance!

The ones I know are MVCase (from Brazil) and Jude (from Japan). Both are free and I haven't fully tested them yet. It may help you.

  • CASE tools for reverse engineering

Hi there, I need a CASE tool for do reverse engineering to java code. Can somebody recommend me someone?

Do you mean a decompiler? There's jode, which I think is at sourceforge.
Do reverse engineering tools really come under the CASE rubric?

  • How outlook choose a CAS server

    Hi all,
I would like to ask how outlook choose a CAS server? For example, if I have 2 sites to deploy exchange server, 1 in hk 1 in russia. How would outlook choose to connect to which CAS server for exchange 2010. For exchange 2013, should it be connected
to the active mailbox database copy? Thanks
    Best Regards,
    Elroy

    Hi,
Client Access Server for Outlook provides the Autodiscover service, Web services (Autodiscover, availability and OAB) and RPC over HTTPS.
Outlook 2007 first searches for the SCP in AD which contains the URL to the Autodiscover service, if more than one SCP object is found in Active Directory which means there are mulitiple CAS servers in the Exchange organization. It will sort the list of
available SCPs by Site Affinity that match the site the Outlook's mailbox is located in. One of two lists is created, an in-site list or an out-of-site list. The list is not sorted in any particular order which is approximately in the order of oldest SCP records
(based on creation date) first. This is not related to the proximity. However, when retrieving the Web service (availability and OAB), It will decide which entry to return based on proximity and current availability. That means to contact Autodiscover maybe
use CAS which integrated with mailbox, and must use the CAS when retrieving other services.
Network Load Balancing is a supported method of doing this.
If there are mulitple CAS servers, for Outlook Anywhere (not logged into the domain), to even out the work load across multiple CAS servers which could offer Autodiscover services
    Thanks & Regards
    John Chris

  • Anyone used free CASE tools?

    hi guys,
I was just wondering which CASE tools someone here has used and was good to use, basically I must be able to save the diagram as a picture so that I can copy and paste it to Word document, if someone has done something similar, please let me know what too you used, and only free ones please, I know a lotof you probably used advanced case tools that probably cost a lot of money but I dont work for a company and just need a free one only, thanks.

  • Choosing a JSP tool

Hello. Your response would be greatly appreciated.
We are in the process of choosing a JSP Development tool.
It must be very robust and capable of handling a copmlex database application.
It must be intuitive and easy to use.
I has to be very visual and user-friandly.
It should have capability to be used by a team of developers on one project, in other words it has to have check in/out capabilities.
It needs to have capapility for debugging.
It also needs to have ability to allow for quick testing of developed stuff.
If anybody knows a tool/tools that can handle requirements listed above, please let your opinion be expressed. This would be VERY helpful for me as well as thousands of other developers out there.
I am looking forward to the replies.
    Sincerely,
    Alexander.

I use Homesite 4.5 from allaire for JSP/HTML development. It is very user friendly and has a variety of expansion features as well as deployment options. I just got JBuilder foundation edition with a book I bought. You can search the Apache/Jakarta web site for CVS to get check in/ check out capabilities. I have also downloaded both Tomcat and orion-server for development. Of all of the aforementioned items, only Homesite and potentially JBuilder come with a price-tag (also orion-server for deployment). This is what I would consider an economical yet very robust solution.

  • Choosing a case...

Seems like there are two ways to go when choosing an iPad case. One is an iPhone-like shell that (hopefully) protects it from drops. The other is a transportation case that when moving from location to location (usually has a handle). You have to remove the iPad from the transportation case to use.
The iPad is so heavy and there's so much glass. I'm guessing any drop will be fatal?
Do any shells offer any realy protection?

I bought The Apple Case. Heard alot of good reviews about it, and considering it being sold out in every Apple Store in NYC ... its a very good sign. Dont get The Incase one. Saw a few Youtube Reviews, where it doesnt properly stand, and worse yet... it could drop out of the case frame - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUqlmydbTPY .
So I have The Apple Case... and soon will be getting The Incipio Case - http://www.myincipio.com/c=NVawvnFUbN2U5fZsQHpOJm13b/s=myincipio.com/product/IPA DCASEIPAD-106/SILICRYLIC-Acrylic-Shell-Case-with-Silicone-Core-for-Apple-iPad---White Gray.html - Its a SILICRYLIC, and the reason Im getting it is because it worked INCREDIBLE on my iPhone. It has a HARD Shell protecting all the corners and back. Then it has a rubber under shell protecting the whole phone. It worked very good. If I ever use The iPad outside I will add The Incipio Case, along with The Apple Case. Yes I know its over kill, BUT I prefer to be safe than sorry. Cause it only takes 1 drop to damage a component like the glass, which will cost you hundreds in repairs.

  • Help me choose a case!

have 5 criteria for an iphone case.
    1. MOST IMPORTANT: cosmetic protection- especially drop protection
    - this means I want a case that won't damage the iphone, that would defeat the purpose of the case
    2. Something that doesn't add a lot of bulk
    3. I want access to all ports, buttons, and touch screen. (I want minimal case coverage of the home button or area around home button & ear piece)
    4. Reliable- I obviously don't want something that I will have to replace every month or so.
    5. It needs to be able to go in and out of my pocket (at least moderately) easily.
This is what I've narrowed it down to:
    1. Seidio Innocase- (http://www.seidioonline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=936)
    2. Agent 18 iPhone Shield- (http://www.agent18.com/scripts/prodview2.asp?idproductpages=21)
    3. SwitchEasy Capusle-(http://www.switcheasy.com/iPhone.htm)
    4. Incase Slider- (http://www.goincase.com/products/detail/slider-case-cl59044)
So lets hear your opinion; which case would satisfy my needs?
    Message was edited by: dkthepk

Im not sure what you mean, the case stays on the phone all the time. You can access all buttons and jacks with the case on. It even comes with a universal dock adapter so you can leave the case on and charge it. The membrane covers the whole screen included the home button to keep all dirty and stuff out. Let me know if i answered your question
The only reason it comes with the headphone adapter is to fit the headphones that already dont fit in the iphone. the stereo headset still fits fine, and you do not need to remove anything to use the phone
oh yeah, unlike the agent 18 that just pushes together and then get loose after about a month or 30 removals. This case locks together, and wont loosen or come apart like some cases....

  • Patterns-oriented CASE tool

I've come across an interesting web site for Blueprint Technologies.
(Actually, I saw it mentioned on the corba-patterns list, which I am
    also on.)
They offer a couple of interesting design tools. One is an add-on to
Rational Rose that offers a searchable design patterns catalog, and can
automatically insert appropriate classes into your model when a pattern
is selected. The other is called Object Miner. It parses a requirements
document in Microsoft Word or Rational's Requisite Pro and produces a
list of candidate objects for you.
I thought these tools sounded intriguing, and I'm curious if anyone on
this list has had any experience with these tools and could offer any
feedback on how useful they found them to be. If so, let me know.
You can see the description of them at
    http://www.blueprint-technologies.com/new/order.html.
    Thanks.

  • Choosing the right tools...

I'm involved in training and creating training materials.  I'm also trying to document our business processes.
Tell me if you think this is a good idea or not. I want to use PowerPoint so I can demo the steps involved in doing a process. With PowerPoint I can animate a flow chart and then along the way insert swf (flash) files when I want to show how to do something. I’ve embedded some Wink swf files in some slides and was unhappy with the screen resolution. I tried embedding the Microsoft browser and it works much better with better resolution but I’m not sure that is the way to go.  It seems like Captivate is what I want but in an Adobe chat session I was encouraged to instead consider Acrobat Pro 9 Extended.
If it were you and you wanted:
    1. To show a visio like model of a business process (accounts payable procedures for example or flow chart) and demonstrate the steps involved in performing the task/process/activity
    2. Create high quality flash files that demonstrate who it is performed (how the software is used)
    3. To show video clips (avi, mov, mpeg, or flash) with good resolution (usually this will be a demo of step by step actions using software)
    4. To avoid the user having to jump through hoops to see the training
    5. Get feedback from the users of the training
    What would you do?

    Hello,
The main purpose (in my opinion) of Captviate is to provide an application for those that have no background in working with animations or programming. For the most part, it accomplishes that purpose.
For what you are looking to do:
    1. To show a visio like model of a business process (accounts payable procedures for example or flow chart) and demonstrate the steps involved in performing the task/process/activity
You could use Captivate for this - fade the images in, talk about them, click continue to move on for example...
    2. Create high quality flash files that demonstrate who it is performed (how the software is used)
Show how the software is used? Captivate all the way.
    3. To show video clips (avi, mov, mpeg, or flash) with good resolution (usually this will be a demo of step by step actions using software)
Not sure about all the file formats, but FLV (Flash) is easily doable.
    4. To avoid the user having to jump through hoops to see the training
You can use branching in Captivate.
    5. Get feedback from the users of the training
This could be a little challenging depending on the work environment, but you could create a survey in Captivate and use the email functionality to get the results.
I think Captivate could accomplish all of the above.
Someone may have something different to say, but that's my .02

So, I open a new document, choose the Text Tool, it hiighlights the tool in the left tool palette.  The I place the Text Tool icon on the page and start to type.  The highlighted box back in the tool panel wildly jumps from tool to tool.  This is the ed version, part of the CS# Master Suite, I just it just a few times, it worked fine for a business card just six months ago. The other programs in the suite work find.  I have followed the procedure to clear out any preference files.  What gives????  I tried downloading updates, it won't let me do that.  Has Adobe installed Hal onmy machine?

Before you can enter text you need a text frame. With the text tool, click and drag a frame the shize you want, then the toool will allow you to type inside the frame.
