Choosing a record from a DB to populate a form

This will be my first LiveCycle application. I have an Access 2007 database that contains contact data (first name, last name, etc.). This data will be editable in a PDF of a scanned paper form with databound fields that I've overlaid (that part is already done). I'd like to implement a "Find Contact" dialog that allows for search and selection of a single record from the database, which then gets its details populated into the PDF form. Any suggestions on how to do this?

Okay....now I have a form bound to an Access database with one table called "Contacts". This is just a simple contact database. On my form I have buttons that control navigation (first, last, next, prev, new, save). This works just fine so far.
What I would like to add is a dropdown list or text box where i can pick or search for a contact by last name. This would move the cursor on the recordset to the ID of the first contact found with that last name (i.e. Select TOP 1 ID from Contacts where LastName = ?), or create a new record if one is not found.

    I created a PDF form where I have open, next, previous buttons, and I'm able to connect to the access database, and it's working fine.     U may have to format this a bit. The idea is to use a count variable to put "selected" in only the first OPTION. After that, we don't have to.

    Anyways which version of SAP are you using ? As of SAPNW 7.0 Release 2 you can specify dynamic tokens with LOOP ... WHERE statement.

  • How to populate form fields by choosing a parameter from a list of values?

    I have a unique field (say claim #)that is displayed at the top right of the page. Whenever I choose a value from the list of values and query the DB, all the subsequent forms(representation of one or more tables, linked by claim#) present below the search field should be populated with apt values.
    The issue here is, the forms displayed in the bottom of the page represent different master tables linked by the universal identifier(claim#) for my system.
    Please guide me if anyone knows a solution for this issue.

    You might want to look at the Acrobat Forms Data Format (FDF) Toolkit to create an FDF file that has the webbased PDF form refereced as the form source for the FDF data. You could also look at PDFTK and PDF Hacks.
    This is more of a developers issue than a simple Acrobat JavaScript issue.
    If may salary were to be doubled, I would still receive the same amount.

  • Choosing the records to save in a database based block

    Hi everybody,
    I'm working with oracle 10g forms builder, I have a database based block.. in which I'll populate a number of records retrieved from a cursor. In that block, I have a non database item which a checkbox.
    The user can select the records he wants to save by setting the checkbox to check.
    Only the selected records should be checked.
    Can anyone please help me implementing that.

    Commit processing in Forms is an all or nothing process. You cannot pick and choose which records will be commited during a Commit_Form or Commit call. Based on your description, I don't see why you would need to use the checkbox to keep track of which records are new since you state that you add the records through a cursor and then to save them. Forms already keeps track of which records were queried into a block and which records are new so a simple call to Commit_Form will accomplish what you want without the need to manually keep track of which records are new.

    Diagnosis
    Failed to store data records persistently. Possible causes are:

  • Need assistance searching records from multiple tables - Please Help!

    Hi, I've been trying to solve this problem for several weeks now, and I have exhausted all of my knowledge and experience.  I need help, and I hope someone here can give me some direction.
    I am using VB 2008, and the CR that comes bundled with VS 2008 Pro.  My database is a SQL Server 2005 CE v3.5 (a *.sdf file).  I am connecting to the database through a dataset, and I am displaying the report in a CrystalReportViewer.
    My dataset consistes of two tables:
    1) tblCustomers which has a primary key "CustID", and contains only customer contact and personal information. 
    2) tblDateVisited which has a primary key of "VisitID", but it also has a column titled "CustID". Basically, every time a customer visits the business, details of that visit are recorded in tblDateVisited, and that record is associated with the customer by their CustID.
    Here's what I'm trying to accomplish:  I want to be able to display only Customer records when the customer has visited and that visit matches certain criteria.  Right now, I am trying to match visits from the "tblVisitDate.PlayerType" column.  If the customer has ever had a visit where they matched a particular player type, I want to see those customer records.
    I don't know what I'm doing wrong, though.  I can search a dataset if I am only querying one table and pulling records from that table.  However, whenever I try to add a second table and perform queries on that table to get records from the first table, I can't return any records. 
    If it helps, I am trying to use one CrystalReportViewer to display multiple reports (user choice) and here's how I'm loading the report into the viewer:

    Me.tblDateVisitedTableAdapter.Fill(Me.dsPlayerTypeReports.tblDateVisited)

    Whatever the case, I'm at the end of my rope with this one.  I'm not prone to giving up, but I'm at a dead end currently. 
    Any attempt to assist me with this will be greatly appreciated, successful or not.

    No, I am connected via ADO.NET.  I don't think SQL CE can connect through ODBC (or if it can, I haven't been able to figure out how, yet).  So this isn't a stored procedure.
    When I examine the link, I can only choose an Inner Join or a Left Outer Join.  Right Outer and Full Outer are not available.  Could this be a problem with the dataset I'm using?
    Could you explain what you mean by display all of the records and then choose the selection criteria?

  • Recording from a turnta

    I would like to record from a turntable. What hardware and software do I need?

    I record from tape and turntable regularily but have not used the input of my SoundBlaster since I got my JB and then replaced it with JB3. Using the JB3 is simple and very convenient! with options to record to mp3 at various CBR bit rates or to wav at various sampling frequencies. I choose 44.kHz wav and usually add +dB of gain in the JB3. Once the wavs are completed, I move them to my PC which is fast via firewire, then use Audacity http://audacity.soungforge.net to split up the individual tracks. I name each Artist - Album - # - track, 2, 3 etc encode to mp3, and then use the SuperTagging feature of Music Match Juke Box to fill in the tags, providing track titles, year of release and the cddb genre, which I edit later.
    I am one of the lucky ones with most of my LP's still in pristine condition so do not worry too much about pops and ticks (from that pizza in 973) etc.

    The first obvious sugession would be to use the proper indexes. I had a similar Issue with COVP which is a join of COEP and COBK. I got substanstial performance improvement by adding "where LEDNR EQ '00'" in the where clause.
    Here is my select:

  • Creating multiple records from 1 record in the source file for Import DM

    Today I am working on an interface/import where I want to get the following result:
    Source file contains a records like:
    Account, Entity, DriverX
    Sales,EntityA,ZZ
    The BPC appset contains the 2 dimensions Account and Entity next to CostCenter dimension. The DriverX field in the source file is just additional information in the source file. However based on this DriverX we need to determine what CostCenter to choose but we also need to have the same record assigned to a second record in BPC.
    Following my example, based on DriverX value I need to create 2 records:
    Account, Entity, CostCenter,
    Sales,EntityA,CC1
    Sales,EntityA,CC2
    I don't have a problem assigning the record to 1 CostCenter based on DriverX value but I have a problem creating my second record. Does any of you have had the same "challenge" and if so would you like to share the solution for this?

    Many thanks for your answer. And yes this would be a solution. However I just simplified my case as the decision to create an second record and where to post is depending on more than 1 field in the source.
    But I will keep it in mind, because I also can opt for a solution to store data differently in BPC fac-tabels which will help me to use script logic.
    If it is not possible to create multiple records from a single records in the standard functionality in the Transformation and/or Conversion file, I have to create a custom DTSX or change my way of storing data.
    Anyone else who is having an alternative idea like Greg came up with?

  • Af:query : Delete duplicate records from results manually

    I have an ADF page with af:quey on a view object.  I have created a viewcriteria to choose few attributes from the view object.
    The view object is created manually using a sql query, where the query has joins to various other tables (it has outer joins too).
    On submit, due to one to many relationship in the joins, i am getting duplicate rows in the results.
    I am currently using 11.1.1.7.0 jDeveloper (We can't upgrade to upper versions due to other constraints of the project).  I thought the property 'Selected in Query = false' on the view object attribute would fix this problem (to eliminate duplicate rows).  But, i guess, 11.1.1.7.0 don't seem to be supporting this option.
    Hence, i was thinking of manually deleting the duplicates from the results of the af:query before displaying it to the user.
    Please let me know, if there is a better way to solve the problem, if not, how can i manually remove duplicates from the resultset before displaying the results.
    I created a new QueryLIstener method to delete the duplicates, by executing the view object, but it retruns all the records without applying the criteria.  May be i am doing something wrong.
    Please suggest the best way.

    Hi Frank,
    I do have a distinct in my sql but due to 1->M joins i get duplicate rows.  I can avoid it only if i can unselect the attributes in the select.
    I like to display the attributes to the user to choose the criteria (which adds as a predicate to the sql).  But I would like to unselect the 1-M attributes from the results, so i get distinct rows as i have mentioned distinct in the sql.
    Is there a way to restrict duplicate rows ?
