Choosing "sent from" address

Hello, in the Mail program on my computer I used to have a drop-down box that appeared in messages I composed, below the subject line, that allowed me to select either of the two .Mac e-mail addresses I have in my .Mac account.
Recently that drop-down box has disappeared and I cannot choose to send e-mails from my secondary e-mail address.
In order to send any e-mails from that secondary address, I have to use the web-mail program, not the Mail program resident on my computer.
Can somebody help me get that drop-down box back in Mail? When I press "Reply" to some messages sent to the secondary address I can see the drop-down appear very briefly as Mail is loading the message data, but it disappears after the data is loaded.
Thanks.
PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The accounts pull down is generated for the list of accounts in Mail --> Preferences --> Accounts. Are both of your .Mac accounts set up there? Next, make sure under the Advanced tabs that Enable This Account is checked.

  • Gmail: choosing alternate "from" address

When I use Gmail on the Web, I added another email address, so that when I send mail I can choose a "from" address other than [email protected] Is there any way to do this using Gmail on the iPhone?

In the long, long history of mankind, I got it work last week. It is quite easy to do, as long as you don't follow the setup for Gmail but rather for IMAP.
There is one quirk: if you use another address than your Gmail one for outgoing, it can take up to 24-36 hours for copies of mail you send to wind up in your own "sent mail" folder. Originally, I thought they had just disappeared, especially since if you use your Gmail address for the outgoing, they show up immediately. Then they started showing up and the delay has persisted. But if you can live with this, it works just fine. Time marches on.

  • Sent-From Address Changing in Mail?

    Hello,
My father got an iPad and is using it for business. He has two email addresses: a business address and a Gmail address.
In Gmail, there is an option to have your sent-from address be a different email address, so when he writes an email from Gmail, he has it set so that it appears that the email was set from his business address, NOT the Gmail address. So, even though he's officially sending it from his Gmail account, the recipient will see [email protected], not [email protected],
This is great, but in Mail, when he writes an email from his Gmail address to a business contact, it shows it as being from the Gmail address, not the business address as he has it set. He is having to go to Gmail from his browser to send the email to have it have the proper From address, rather than being able to do it directly from Mail.
Is there any way to rectify this?

Gmail is primarily webmail and, of course, I know that that option is available when you're logged into and using Gmail.com. Your father would be able to domthe same thing, I.e., use Safari or the Google app to operate directly at Gmail instead of remotely through a client like Mail.
The only other option I can think of would be to add his business account into Mail on the iPad, following the setup instructions in the User Guide. There is moding in Mail which allows you to assign any installed email address and outgoing email server to any message — Tapping the From: address shown in the message being composed pops a menu showing other options for the From field.

I want to be able to send mail corectly.

In Mail Preferences/Accounts/each GMail account, set up the SMTP Outgoing Server for each account separately, going into SMTP name/edit/Advanced and specify the Username of each account.  The Outgoing servers must be two different servers, authenticated by the Username and Password of each.
Otherwise, the GMail SMTP server will change the from address to that of the account where the SMTP server was setup.

Reply address: is it possible to use another reply address other than the pop address used in my account. I have a special work account and would like to send emails with that address as my reply address...or sent from address

i found out how to do this finally!
    1) set up google gmail account to forward your emails to (from the [email protected])
    2) go to your gmail account
    3) go to settings (cog in right hand corner)
    4) go to 'accounts and import'
    5) go to 'send mail as'
    6) click 'Add another email address you own' - add your [email protected] address
    7) google will send a verification email with code to that email address.
    8) enter code
    9) go back to gmail account  >'send mail as' and select 'make default'
    10) close mac 'mail' program and reopen it.
as long as you have gmail account selected as the primary account in MAIL - mail will now come throught as being sent from that  [email protected] address!!

  • IPhone4 - Gmail - Sent From Address???

    Hey Guys/Gals,
I setup a POP email account through the Exchange option using a Gmail account on my iPhone 4. My question is this: When I send emails from my iPhone it uses my gmail account email address *****@gmail.com. I need it to show its coming from my business email address instead.
Is there any way to set this up on the iPhone?
I already logged into my Gmail account and selected that all emails sent should look like they are coming from my POP business address. But I can't find an option on the iPhone to change the outgoing email address.
    Let me know.... thanks!

Ahhh....I am have the same issue and it is so annoying. There is no way I am going to send emails to my work colleagues from a personal email address!!
I have googled this topic for quite some time, and I have not found a solution yet. I am still trying to work it out because i need to be able to send from multiple accounts. I did run accross an article talking about using the 'magic comma' to separate multiple email accounts when setting up your gmail on iphone ( http://modernerd.com/post/535350679/solved-gmail-ipad-iphone-and-multiple-from )
This 1/2 worked for me. I was able to choose which email address to send from, but they were all the same address. Give it a try, maybe it'll work for you.

  • Change "Sent From" Address on Sent Mail

Is there a way to change the "Sent From" Signature on outgoing mail. I use Yahoo for push email but want my outgoing mail address to read as my corporate email address. I don't want to send email to my clients showing a yahoo address. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am having the same problem. I noticed no one commented on your post and wondered if you ever fixed the problem.

  • How/can I change the "from" address in Mail?

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion, and have come across a problem.
I use iCloud for my mail account, but I want to change the "from" address - so the return address on my messages is NOT icloud.
I could do this in Lion.
In the mail account settings, there's an option that says "alias" and it lists (me)@mac.com, (me)@me.com and (me)@icloud.com, and then "custom" is an option.
    Great!
So I choose Custom, and then I can type in the "from" address that I want.
However, when I go to save those changes, it tells me the SMTP server can't be left blank.
    What?
It's not blank! I didn't touch it. The icloud server is still there!
Furthermore, it's greyed out, so even if it WERE blank, it's not like I can edit it!
Once this happens, the only fix is to delete the whole account from mail, and to disable mail in the icloud control panel, then re-add it.
Has anyone figured out to work around this?

Apple's outgoing mail server - just like 99.9% of all other SMTP servers, does not allow "relaying", meaning you use a domain in the 'sent from' address that is different from a domain hosted by the server. The simple reason is to make it harder for any spammer - not assuming you are one - to abuse the server. While bandwidth, server capacity and server load are some issues, the main fear for ISPs is to get blacklisted, and consequently mails from such server being refused by all others.
It's a general rule, and while exceptions might be technically possible, it would be a manual act which at a certain rate would become unmanageable.
If you want, read about the antonym, open mail relay servers, here.
You see, it's actually good behavior and absolutely in your interest to prevent you from using a "non-in-house" 'sent from' address.

  • How do I set which account email is sent from?

    Christopher Graham wrote:

No you can't.  If you're in one account, and you create a new message, it defaults to the account you're in.  If you create an email outside of the mail app, you can set a default account to send from.  Andygoodyear has the correct instructions for that.

  • Unity Connection 9.1 - SMTP Send from Address

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to change the SMTP sent from address and alias when receiving a VM in Outlook?
For example I receive VM's from an account alias of "Cisco Unity Connection Messaging System" and I would like to change this. It looks like it is linked to a local account configured on the Connection box with an alias of UnityConnection. The fields are greyed out and i'm not able to edit them directly, the only field that I wish to edit is the display name.
I am reluctant to delete the account and re-create one of my own using the same alias in case emails stop being sent. Has anyone any ideas or experience with this issue?
    Thanks,
    Phil

Yes it can be different than the OS domain. Secretly CXN is a Postfix mail server so this is essentially configuring the domain of the subscribers' mailboxes. As it will warn you though there are several service-impacting daemons that MUST be restarted after making the change.
As you mentioned, the networking guide does require unique SMTP domains per-cluster. This is because most of the inter-cluster traffic occures over SMTP, including message delivery. I typically recommend a semi-human friendly nomenclature such as:
    na.voicemail.domain.com
    emea.voicemail.domain.com
    apac.voicemail.domain.com

  • Replies to my e mails come to a different e mail address from the one they were sent from

Replies to my e mail address don't come to the address they were sent from.  This is annoying because I miss some replies unless I check all my mail boxes.

There is a preference in Mail on which account to choose, if possible.
You can set it to use account of selected mailbox.
However, if you have rules that move messages out of the Inbox, Mail just uses the default account.
While the title says Send "new" messages…, it affects replies.

  • Why aren't my iphone emails being sent from my default email address. Is anyone else having this problem?

I have my iphone email default setting to my primary email address however when I send or respond to emails they are sent from my secondary email address even if I de-activate the secondary email address. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to correct this?

Are you sending from All Inboxes, or the inbox for the account the message was received in? I cannot duplicate your problem with either approach; my mail is always sent with the FROM address of the account that a Reply came to, or, for a new message, the inbox that was open at the time. It doesn't matter which SMTP server I use.
When composing a new message or a reply tap once on the BCC/FROM field; you can then tap on the From address and choose any of your email addresses for the FROM field. Does this let you change it?

The new but not-ready-for-prime-time autocomplete method searches for matches that contain the entered text, not just ones that begin with the string. Your options are:
    1) type in longer strings that narrow the search
    2) use an add-on to search just the beginnings:

  • How do I ensure mail is sent from the correct email account?  I have two set up on my iPad, and it seems to choose which one to use somewhat randomly.  This has happened both when using Mail and when emailing form another app.

I have two email accounts set up on my iPad -- one I use & one I monitor for a disabled person.  On several occasions, mail I have composed and sent from my email account was sent showing the other account as the sender.  This has happened both from within Mail and when emailing from other apps, such as Safari, Photos, etc.  Any idea what is going on and how to prevent this from happening?

Are you confirming your POP account is selected as the sending email account before the message is sent?
And regardless if the email is a new email or is replying to or forwarding an email received by the POP account and cofirming the POP acconut is selected as the sending email account, the message is sent by the Gmail account?
All message sent by the POP account are sent by the Gmail account?
If so, delete the Gmail account from your iPad and test if a message sent with your POP account which will be the only email account available with the iPad's Mail app is recieved from your POP account/address.
If not, something else is wrong or on play that has nothing to do with the iPad.
