Chunking + dimension operator+ owb 11g very slow
Anbody using chunking for loading SCD type 2 dimesnions in Oracle 11g.
Can it be used with dimension operator.
Also what is Max Chunk iterator count - can't see in the documentation?
Thinking about dicthing domension operator for one of our SCD type 2 as so slow.
Also doing simple thing like deploying mapping very slow - anybody seen this - other previous version used also slow but not as slow.
Other programming development tools thing on PC leads me to think problem with OWB.
Do we need to purge repository auidting tables?
If so is there a script to do this in Oracle 11g.
Any ideas/thought on above much appreciated.
Many Thanks
Hi,
Thanks for the excellent suggestion.
Have run other mapings which maintain SCD type 2 using dimesnion operator behave similary to 10g. - have raised issue with this particular mapping with Oracle - awaiting response.
One question - when look at the mappings which maintain SCD Type 2s looks to join on dimension key and the surrogate ids.
What is best practice regarding indexing of such a dimension, e.g is it recommended to index dimension key and the surrogate ids along with the natural/nbusiness keys?
Thanks

I recently downloaded and installed OS X Mavericks 10.9 on my MacbookAir3,2 and now seem to have slower operating speed, especially very slow upload of e-mail attachments. Anyone got a fix, or advice on self-diagnosing the underlying problem?

I saw an update was available and trusted without exploring what was involved. Now all applications are running

ADF 11g - Very slow page rendering
Hi,
In our application we have a page with many panel boxes which are by default visible='false'. On the selection of a row in the table the particular panel box would be rendered and shown on the page.
The problem we are facing is with a very simple transaction, the user selects a particular type and there is a simple button which submits the records selected to data base and shows a popup. This process is taking very long. While debugging we have observed that the submission is happening fast but the displaying of the pop up and the page is time taking.
When we removed all the code from the page and just left the code for the above transaction and did the testing there was no delay. The complete flow went very fast.
We are using Fire fox 3 as our default browser.
Can any one please help us in improving the performance of the page?
Thanks,
Manasa.Hi,
We have solved the performance issue by tuning all the VOs being used in the Page. One more factor which increased the performance was clearing the multiple iterators that got created in the pageDef during the course of development.
Hope this helps you.
Thanks,
Manasa. -
Monday all of our OS X Lion Macs can access SMB file shares on our file server and we come in Tuesday morning and now they take at least 1 minute to pull up the file share and sometimes longer. Windows PC's are immediate when connecting to the same shares. I've seen where others with different versions of OS Xhave this issue but what gets me is it happend all at once to machines that were working perfectly the day before.
I've also looked into changes on our servers and as far as I can tell there have been none.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks....This solution worked for me!
I had a MobileMe account with iDisk configured on my MBP even though I never actually used it. The night they officially shutdown MobileMe the next morning I could no longer connect to my work's SMB file shares (Windows server shares). I found a work around based on some other support threads. If in the "Connect to Server" address field in Finder I specified my crendentials (i.e. smb://username:password@server/) then it worked perfectly fine. This told me it was a crendential issue. Simply deleting the saved server crendentials in KeyChain Access did not resolve the issue. No matter what I would did it would not prompt for login crendentials. Since my Mac login is different than my work domain login I was dead in the water without manually specifiying (not a permenant solution).
After finding this thread I did the following steps and it resolved the issue 100%.
1. Open Terminal
2. cd ~/Library/Preferences
3. ls .GlobalPreferences.plist to verify file exists in that directory
4. rm .GlobalPreferences.plist to delete file
5. ls .GlobalPreferences.plist to verify file no longer exists
4. Go to Force quit to relaunch Finder
5. Lauch "Connect to Server" within Finder and all was good, server connects perfectly
Thank you very much DavidRSewell!!!! -
11g (11.2.0.1) - dimension operator very slow on incremental load
Dimension operator very slow in porcessing incremental loads on 11.2.0.1 Have applied cumulative patch - still same issue.
Statistics also gathered.
Initial load into empty dimension performs fine (thousands of records in < 1 min) - incremental load been running over 10 mins and still not loaded 165 records from staging table.
Any ideas?
Seen in 10.2.0.4 and applied patch which cured this issue.Hi,

Oracle 11G - Update is very slow on View
I have big trouble with some Update query on Oracle 11G.
I have a set of tables (5) of identical structures and a view that consists in an UNION ALL of the 5 tables.
None of this table contains more than 20 000 rows.
Let's call the view V_INTE_NE. Each of the basic table has a PRIMARY KEY defined on 3 NUMBERS(10,0) -> INTE_REF / NE_REF / INSTANCE.
Now, I get 6 rows in another table and I want to update my view from the data of this small table (let's call it SMALL). This table has the 3 columns INTE_REF / NE_REF / INSTANCE.
When I try to join the two tables :
SELECT * FROM T_INTE_NE T2
WHERE EXISTS ( SELECT 1 FROM SMALL T1 WHERE T2.INTE_REF = T1.INTEREF AND T2.NE_REF = T1.NEREF AND T2.INTE_INST = T1.INSTANCE )
I get the 6 lines in 0.037 seconds
When I try to update the view (I have an INSTEAD OF trigger that does nothing (just return for testing even without modifying anything), I execute the following query :
UPDATE T_INTE_NE T2
SET INTE_STATE = -11 WHERE
EXISTS ( SELECT 1 FROM SMALL T1 WHERE T2.INTE_REF = T1.INTEREF AND T2.NE_REF = T1.NEREF AND T2.INTE_INST = T1.INSTANCE )
The 6 rows are updated (at least TRIGGER is called) in 20 seconds.
However, in the execution plan, I can't see where Oracle takes time to achieve the query :
Plan hash value: 907176690

What could explain the difference ?
I get exactly the same execution plan (when autotrace is ON).
Furthermore, if I try to do the same update on each of the basic tables, I get the rows updated instantaneously.
Is there any reason for avoiding this kind of query ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)
Regards,
PatrickSorry for this, I lost myself in conjonctures and I didn't think I would have to explain the whole case.
So, I wrote a small piece of PL/SQL that reproduces the same issue.
It seems that my issue is not due to the UPDATE but to the use of the IN predicate.
As you can see at the end of the script, I try to join the 2 tables using different technics.
The first query is very fast, the second is very slow.
I need the second one if I want to do any update.

Very slow MV fast refresh after "Merge" on dimension
Hi,
We have a sales cube with 300Mio records and product dimension with 20.000 records.
We have a materialized view something like:
SELECT COUNT(*) AS cnt,
COUNT(cube.amount) AS cnt_amt,
sum(cube.AMOUNT) as amount,
p.product_name
FROM sales_cube cube
JOIN product_dimension p on cube.product_dimension = p.product_dimension
group by day, product_dimension
There is tho mv_log on cube and on product_dimension defined.
After import process for sales_cube
In the night we run an product dimension update script implemented wit MERGE.
If something changes in product dimension then next fast refresh from materialized view takes 4 hours. If we have no changes in product_dimension then fast refresh takes 8 seconds.
My question is, why takes it sooo long and who can we prevent it.I'm not authorized to publish EXECUTION PLAN or schema details.
But I found the problem.
ETL Prozess is generated by Warehouse Builder.
ETL Prozess is modeled as Mapping from product table to product dimension in Warehouse as "UPDATE/INSERT" by PK (product number).
Warehouse Builder generates an MERGE statement for such "UPDATE/INSERT" mappings.
But this mapping updates every record in Dimension Table, as result Materialized View Log for this dimension is confused. Fast refresh (join between fact table and dimension) is very slow (slower than compleate refresh).
Now, i simple must find out how i can change this OWB mapping not to update records in dimension if corresponding records are not modified in source table.
There is an "match by constraint" option in mapping, looks useful, i'll try it tomorow. -
Things that are very slow in 11g
I am finding 11g forms much slower than I remember v10 forms and of course much much slower than
6i client server forms. Thus far I found one thing in particular that takes an excessive amount of time IMHO:
find_item
I have a loop that goes through every item on a block that has a lot of items and if you do a find_item in there
that is very very slow.
I'd appreciate it if other peole shared things they found that were excessively slow. I know this is not the only one.Since most of the tables and indexes are either partitioned or subpartitioned, the above SQL quickly gives us a sense that there are many segments in the system.
If you are interested, here is the breakdown. Anyway, the problem is that we have a lot of tables which has many partitions/subpartitions, with only 1 index or even no index on it. The truncate table or drop table operation is very very slow :-(
select segment_type, count(*) segment_count, sum(extents) extent_count
from dba_segments
group by segment_type
order by 2 desc;

TABLE SUBPARTITION 1506441 34429790 this is a lot, isn't it?

The problem is with the new operating system and sending photo via email when used in my iPad.
From photo I selected 3 photos to send via email. I choose the upload key and choose to send by email. Typing text on the email is very slow. This is solved by saving the email as a draft and opening the email again from mail.
Can you amend he system to allow emails to be sent from photo as previously.Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). Ignore the "Slide to power off" -
Apex 3.2 on 11g with EPG on Localhost - IE 8 browser running very slow.
I've just upgraded my development DB to 11gV2 but can't cut over to APEX4.0 yet as the production environment still needs to be upgraded(backward compatibility issues).
New SETUP

11g setup on localhost
EPG
IE8 runs very very slow
Firefox runs fine with acceptable speed
Old Setup
APEX 3.2
10g on localhost
HTTP server
IE7 run fine
Firefox ran fine
Any suggestions on how to speed up IE8 as it is our prefered browser?
I've tried to set TOOLS...INTERNET OPTIONS...ADVANCED...http1.1 settings on and off as suggested by someone on the forum but the results are unpredicitble.
Paul PHello Paul,
I think we are now in a similiar situation as you had a year ago, and I was wondering if you could provide me with some insight.
We are currently running on 10g with Apex 3.2.1 and are working on upgrading to 11g, and not upgrading Apex (staying at 3.2).
Did you run into any issues when upgrading to 11g? Did anything need to be done on the Apex side to support it? Or are they totally independent?
Thanks!

Query can run in Oracle 10g but very slow in 11g
Hi,
We've just migrated to Oracle 11g and we noticed that some of our view are very slow (it takes seconds in 10g and takes 30 minutes in 11g), and the tables are using the local table.
Do any of you face the same issue?
This is our query:
SELECT
A.wellbore
,a.depth center
,d.MD maxbc
,d.XDELT xbc
,d.YDELT ybc
,e.MD minac
,e.XDELT xac
,e.YDELT yac
from
table_A d,table_A e, table_B a
where a.wellbore = d.WELLBORE (+)
and a.wellbore = e.WELLBORE(+)
and d.MD = (select max(MD) from table_A b where b.MD < a.depth and
d.wellBORE = b.wellBORE)
and e.md = (select min(md) from table_A c where c.MD > a.depth and
e.wellBORE = c.wellBORE);Thanks I will move to the correct one..
Rafi,
Build the Indexes and it is still slow. I am querying from a view from another database, which is in 10g instances.
Moved: Query can run in Oracle 10g but very slow in 11g

Jdev 11g application is running very slow.
Hi,
I have deployed the application on Solaris OS, Weblogic 10.3.2 and JDev 11g.
Application is running very slow, means each page is taking time to launch.
Server setup is as follows:
8 cpu's
6gb of memory
8gb swap
15gb /apps
20gb /logs
Please let me know if I need to set any parameters at server level to improve the application performance.
Thanks.Oh, yes, of course, your /logs partition should be 22.25 GB instead of 20 ;) (that was a joke before you run off and ask for more space)
To amplify what Timo said, you've provided actually no information whatsoever that would help anyone even begin to know what is causing the performance problem. Have you looked at the EM screens? Have you turned on logging to see if it's the database perhaps? You need to do much more diagnosis.

Oracle-11g connection is very slow
Hi Team,
Installed oracle11g with database yesterday. but the connection to database using tnsnames is very slow even from host server, where as sys / as sysdba is normal in hostserver.
And checked other databases(10g) connections in the same host server, normal. Here with I spooled alert log file and parameter list. pls do the needful help.

(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=192.168.247.27)(PORT=1522)))Why use port 1522?
It is always a good idea to use the standard ports for a network application. There is no logic in obfuscating ports for security purposes. It also makes network management and dealing with quality of service issues for example, much more complex if you do not stick to the registered application ports.
Also note that if you provide a dotted IP address, only that address will be used for binding the tcp port as a listening end point. This means no connections will be accepted on localhost and other IP addresses of that server. Make sure that this is what is technically required.
ifconfig
bond6 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:26:55:D3:02:B6
Why are you using bonding? How many bonded interfaces are there and now many physical NICs? Bond6 alludes that it is the 7th bonded interface - and at 2 NICs per bonded interface it implies that your server has 14 physical Ethernet interfaces. Which I doubt is true.
RX packets:1309675596 errors:5 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:3Not good to see any errors. What does ethtool stats show? Also check that the physical interfaces are enabled for full duplex. Some Cisco switches do not negotiate it properly and the NIC could be running half duplex.
Also - using bonding... does not seem right. The 1st and default bonded interface should be +/dev/bond0+ - and not bond6.
Check the server's network configuration (the +ifcfg-*+ files in +/etc/sysconfig/networking-scripts+ directory). Suggest that you get a network engineer (or the like) to assist with reviewing the network setup of that server.
