Cineform raw footage samples - cs3 is ok

hiya....found this interesting stuff...if anyone wants to check it out...
http://www.siliconimaging.com/DigitalCinema/gallery_footage.html
some hd sample footage from si 2k ...
seem to be nice people at this place...mini is about $22,000 but email them and get up to 30 % discount for both mini and cinedeck ( $14,000 ).... those prices dont reflect discount... begin a conversation with them.
this neo player ( see text below....) did install the codecs for me to put the cineform raw files into cs3 and also to "play" the files on my computer using classic media player
I took the cineform applet thing out of my windows "startup" after installation ( and unchecked before removal, the "check for updates thing" )
the si 2k gallery site...with some sample footage ( some compressed for viewing only , some raw from camera with look files )
this excerpt below is in read me file in gallery page ( with raw samples )
If you simply want to
playback the files and import into AE and Premiere Pro, download NEO Player,
which is a decoder-only product. NEO player will never expire unlike the 15-day
demos of Prospect and NEO 2K.
ps...the "throwing paper airplane " thing looks nice on my cs3 after levels adj...

good going.... I have to admit I like that they (cineform) teamed up with that SI 2K thing for the cineform raw format...theres some cool stuff inherent with that ( automatic half res playback on slower systems ? think I read that.... )...the looks from kodak, etc....but that stuff is already years ago....we are on crest of tech wave.
im gonna start new job soon with people who might help me find something 2nd hand that is affordable... or at least put my name out there for general gossip....so when someone wants to upgrade I can get same deal as B&H for "buy" price...  about half of what they sell it for later....
in other words...im still mulling over your info ( camera you got and one you considered ), Jessica's info ( what she has now, etc )...and the full chip 35mm slr stuff available ( d5,d7 etc ).
cant buy pro camera...ever....must rent that if I ever need it.  Just too much to chew on for shooting myself.  need ac to pull focus etc...no way thats ever gonna happen...the cost of lenses and accesories.
gotta get computer too ( with camera ) and Im now leaning to HD ( as you suggested ).  SD sucks.
I kinda like the SI 2k mini and cinedeck combo but its still way up there ( $$) even with 30% discount offered.  ( 22k + 14k ) at 30% off..but they are very cool people...and there are places to rent that ( hd camera in LA for example)....
so ...no...Im still poor person with great aspirations and wanting to shoot and edit and have no camera.....
however, I AM buying a bike tomorrow for the purpose of getting into shape....so maybe I will live long enough to actually DO something besides drink beer when Im not working !!!!!

  • Where to get raw footage for my students?

I am teaching a video editing class and I need to find some raw footage for them to edit. I have some projects that came with the class but they are old and not very good. One project uses footage of a bank robbery that I now learned is for a short film called, "The Heist," but we are missing some of the footage and I cannot seem to find it anywhere online (or hardly any information about it). I do not need the highest quality footage but I do need complete projects, so the students can look at all the different shots and cut them down into finished products (commercials, music videos, corporate videos, short films, TV shows, anything and everything I can find). Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated!

I too would be interested in getting my hands on what you are looking for.  And have tried. And I work on movies, tv shows, commercials as a grip... on crews....so you would think it would be fairly easy for me to find ...  After more than a year of keeping my eyes peeled for stuff I still haven't been able to get material like that.
I'll mention what I've found out as it might help narrow your own search down.
First off you're not looking for "raw" footage... raw is a type of video format and when I read this thread title that's what I thought you were looking for...
There is some raw footage samples at this link ...and a few "shots" that can be edited together ( like same scene , 2 camera angles )...but nothing near as long as you are looking for....
However, the footage is like from a red camera or prosumer cameras...I only used a couple clips from red camera from this link...and didnt check out all the stuff thats there...so you'd have to check it out yourself...
    http://groups.adobe.com/assets/CreativeSuite5/CS5-Demo-Assets/
AECS 5_ Demo Assets_ final zip is the one I used...
within that zip file I used a couple clips of a guy running while explosions happen on either side of him...that you can "edit"... short though.  you might find more stuff to use.
what you're looking for is "scripted" material ( could be MOS ( no sound ) --and probably would be if pro stuff )
pro stuff has sound mixed separately from the camera, and slates ( clappers ) are used in each shot to sync the sound later.
If you do manage to find "dailies" from a tv show or movie, commercial, etc... that would most likely be on DVD and the quality for editing and export would not be the best cause its aleady mpeg 2 - dvd compression for viewing....
If you want the original stuff it would have to be on hard drive or tape.... which isn't going to happen.
DVD dailies given by productions to the director of photography and some others on the crews are given BACK to production in most cases, and everyone signs secrecy clauses and all that stuff, so sharing that stuff with anyone is a clear violation of not only that contract but also the copyright laws.
So getting dailies is not a very promising and likely scenario.....
With maybe one exception... if you are an accredited school and you write to the producers of a TV show you MIGHT be able to get samples of very old show dailies or dailies from a show that has been cancelled a long time ago ( no more likelihood of marketing in a secondary market )  But as you know, DVD's are still sold now for old Hawaii Five-O TV shows...so this route for you is probably going to require you and your students sign some sort of copyright stuff etc just to "play" with the stuff...
You can see how getting material like you would like to have ( and me too ! ) is very hard to come by....good luck and if you find any source please post it here as I would also like to find that sort of stuff...even if it is just DVD stuff.
    good luck

  • Premiere crash when i try to export from cineform raw sequence...

    Hello!
This is my problem...  I'm trying to work with cineform raw files converted from blackmagic CinemaDng footage... but when i put it into a 1080p timeline, premiere pro cs 6 stop working, and if i try to export the 2.5k sequence.
    Someone could help me?
    Sorry my bad english...

Does it happen with different iMovie projects or does it keep doing it with the same one? Might be a corrupt movie file.
Do you have iLife 11 on disc? If so you might try reinstalling iMovie and try it again, first without updating anything, and if that works then try updating and see if the problem comes back. It could also just be that iMovie is corrupt.

  • CIneform NeoHD footage

    Hi,
Anyone out there have a cross-platform workflow using Cineform? I'm having an issue where my quicktime files generated on the PC are coming out dark in FCP. There is a gamma shift occurring that makes my footage darker. If anyone is familiar with this and has a solution let me know. I have played with their gamma correction in the control panel to no avail.
    Thanks,
    Dustin

  • How to give raw footage shot in AVCHD to wedding clients?

I’ve been living in AVCHD **** for the past couple weeks.  I just recently upgraded my old Sony PD-170s to new Panasonic AG-AC90s which record in AVCHD.  I mostly shoot weddings and deliver the raw footage directly to my clients.  When I was shooting DV, I just gave them the tapes and was done.  Now, I’m completely stressed out because I’ve been trying to figure out how to give my clients their footage without worrying if they’ll be able to play it back on their computer without any problems.  I’m particularly worried since I’m on a late 2008 Macbook Pro 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 8GB of RAM and the files won’t play back smoothly for me.  I need to be able to deliver the footage so that it will play back smoothly on both Mac and PC, even if they’re not as powerful as my own computer.
I went to the Apple Store and they recommended I get a new SSD and a new battery for my laptop.  I’m waiting on both and we’ll see if they make any difference.  They told me I could use Compressor to convert the files to a more compatible format, but I tried that and it took nearly half an hour to convert a one-minute clip to 720p.
I’ve thought about just burning all their footage to blue-ray so they can watch it on their HDTV, but that would mean buying a blue-ray burner and having no idea how long that whole process would take on my outdated MBP.  If I had any luck going that route, maybe I could just give them the AVCHD files on an external hard drive and disclose to them that their computer may not be able to handle playback.  At least they could give the drive to a professional editor who would know what to do with it.
I feel like I’m in way over my head.  I don’t have the money to buy a new computer right now, but if I have to take out a loan so as to not wind up with unhappy clients, I will.  I just have no idea how much of an investment I would need to make to be able to do the transcoding in a reasonable amount of time.  The “genius” at the Apple Store didn’t have any great advice other than to tell me to use Compressor.  I really need to figure out how to do this in the most efficient and economical way possible.  I’m broke, I’ve been living with my parents and I’m just trying to get back on my feet after the worst year of my life in 2013.
I’ve spent many hours over the past two weeks researching these issues, reading articles, posting on various message boards and still not feeling like I’m close to any real solution.  Any help would be a tremendous blessing.

If you are giving the clients the raw footage it's best I think to give them the entire media structure from the camera card. Just make a separate folder for each card, call them Joe&Joan1, 2, 3, etc. Drag the complete contents of each card into it's separate folder. Put the folders on an ExFAT formatted jump drive.
That's the down and dirty method, but it depends what the client wants to do with the video, just watch it on the TV or maybe do something with it themselves. If the latter, then the way I described above is probably the safest for giving them the most options on how to deal with it. If they just want to view, most recent systems can play back raw .mts files in H.264, but the client will have to dig it out of the folder structure to find it.

  • Opening Camera Raw file in CS3 Bridge

I have CS3 Bridge and CS3 Dreamweaver instaled as well as Photoshop CS2.
I want to open Camera Raw files in CS3 Bridge. The Bridge Help file says:
"Select 'Edit Camera Raw Settings' in Bridge General Preferences to open Camera Raw dialog box in Bridge" (as opposed to opening in Photoshop.)
But my Bridge General Preferences has no such checkbox option. When I open a CR file in CS3 Bridge, the file opens in Photoshop CS2.
How do I get the file to open in CS3 Bridge.
    Thanks, CMA

I had a problem with this previously and came up with the following:
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF and hold down the shift key, Camera Raw will not be scheduled
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF image, the image will always schedule Camera Raw if the Bridge menu item Edit/Preference/Thumbnails has Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF checked (Bridge JPEG and TIFF Checked).
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF image and Bridge JPEG and TIFF is unchecked and the JPEG or TIFF image has previously been processed by Camera Raw, Camera Raw will be scheduled if Camera Raw Preferences dialog has Always open JPEG files with settings using Camera Raw or Always open TIFF files with settings using Camera Raw checked.
If I am in Bridge and double click a TIFF image and the TIFF file has layers, the TIFF file will not schedule Camera Raw.
In Photoshop Preferences (Edit/Preference/File Handling) there is a check box titled Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG files. I checked the check box and opened a JPEG image in Photoshop Camera Raw was scheduled. I clicked Open Image in ACR and then saved the image in Photoshop (JPEG saved in Photoshop after passing thru ACR). I then Unchecked the check box and opened the JPEG file Camera Raw was not scheduled.
The only action I see for the Photoshop File Handling check box is to either schedule or not to schedule JPEG images. I do not see any related action for TIFF files in Photoshop. My expectation is that TIFF files will open in Photoshop not ACR.

  • Can only open some JPEG files in Camera Raw through Bridge CS3

I'm running Bridge CS3 version 2.0.0.975. I always edit my JPEG files through Camera Raw in Bridge CS3. I only have to Right-Click on the file and select "Open in Camera Raw...". However, I've come into a situation where some jpg files will not open this way; the option is not even there.
I have made sure to tick the box in preferences under Behavior "Double-Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge", and also tick the box under Thumbnails -> Performance and File Handling "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF Files.
These files were originally 16bit Grayscale TIFF files, but I changed them to RGB 8bit JPEG files.
Also, I know the program works because I navigate to an older photo I worked which is a JPEG and the "Open in Camera Raw..." option is there when I Right-Click, but then I navigate back to the image I want to edit, and the option is not there.
Here are links to my screenshots of what I'm talking about. Both images in the last two screenshots are JPEG:
    General Prefs - http://img535.imageshack.us/i/prefgeneral.png/
    Thumbnail Prefs - http://img716.imageshack.us/i/prefthumbnails.png/
    Camera Raw Option - http://img847.imageshack.us/i/option.png/
Camera Raw No Option - http://img852.imageshack.us/i/nooption.png/

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    MapsCollector wrote:
When I open Photoshop CS3, then go File -> Open As and change the Format Type to "Camera Raw", the JPEG files vanish and I can only see the TIF files. When I open them, it doesn't open in Camera Raw, but rather opens like a normal file would.
That's a fundamental problem right there, and a clue in all this.  You should be able to see JPEGs in the Open As Camera Raw dialog.
What happens if you type in the name?
I'm almost convinced you have a file named .jpg but with a different image format inside.  Can you put one of these files online for others to try to open?

  • Best Way to Open Files in Camera Raw Hosted by CS3?

Hello. I can no longer open Camera Raw in Bridge, only in CS3. I have read posts regarding this problem. If I cannot get Camera Raw (4.2) working in bridge soon, what would be the most efficient way to edit 900 DNG files in Camera Raw hosted by CS3. I really need to process these files for a client in 2 days, so I really do not have too much time to install and re-install software. I am afraid I may create a bigger problem. Thanks a lot.
    Francis Valentine

    Francis,
First, make sure you are running Bridge 2.1.0.100. If not, update ASAP.
Go to "About Plug-in" in the Help menu of Photoshop and verify that you are running ACR 4.2 and that only one copy of ACR is present. You cannot have more than one.
Purge the Cache for each offending folder through the Tools menu in Bridge, not in Bridge Preferences.
Those are the only tips I can offer, as I don't do Windows. Hope the Windows users jump in.

  • HELP! - Getting RAW footage into Offline RT jpeg project

I hoping someone can write down a brief explanation of the steps needed to do this final step in the edit process.
I imported all my footage as an Offline RT jpeg format so it wouldn't take up so much space on the HD. Now I'm completely finished editing the project and need to send the raw footage back through so it can replace the Low-res jpeg stuff in the chosen cuts.
This is the first time I'm doing this and I just want to do it write, not wanting to risk hurting the project.
(I'm working with Final Cut Pro 4.5)
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

I don't know what RAW footage is. I thought RAW as a digital photo format without compression.
On the chance you mean recapturing footage in it's original format,
    1. take the footage you have now off-line
    2. Open up Log & Capture
    3. Select all your footage in the Browser and select BATCH CAPTURE
    4. In Log & Capture make sure the settings are for the correct format for the footage you wish to capture
    5. Capture
    6. Make sure the settings of your sequence are changed to match the footage you just captured.
There is probably an easier way using media manager - but I never use MM ....
    good luck.

  • External Hard Drive for Raw footage?

Im sorry, this question has probobly been answered already but I'm just confused.
If I am editing a project in Premiere pro cs6 and I have all of my raw clips on an external drive (usb 3.0) and import them into premiere from the external drive will this slow down the editing process? I have a 120gb SSD and just want to use that for the OS and Applications, while having my raw clips/recompresed clips with the scratch disks all on the external drive? or will this slow premiere pro down? So basically will the external drive with usb 3.0 with my raw footage  and scratch disks slow down premiere or will it just be fine?
(just switched from FCP) Any help would be appreciated!

Im not sure of the rpm, I looked in the manual and does not say anything about the rpm, but the drive is a Seagate 2tb goflex desk (STAC2000106). And no I have not benchmarked it yet but I might test it out soon.

  • How to give client best quality of raw footage

So normally I shoot, edit, and burn sporting events for a certain client. However, this thime the just want to pay for the raw footage. Since I've noveer done this before, I'm a little confused. Usually I would export using Quicktime and then drop th quicktime into iDVD or Roxio and then burn a copy. But since they might want someone else to edit the footage, how do I give them the best quality format. I am sticking with burning something to DVD. But last night I was looking at export using quicktime conversion. There were all kinds of options. What would you recommend for exporting? I would assume if I burn it onto a DVD using iDVD, they would have to rip it to edit it. But doesn't puting something on DVD compress the footage? It is shot in SD, but I want to ensure maximium quality. Any suggestions?

It's a Sony miniDV camera. The footage specs are as follows:
    Sony:
    Frame Size: 720x480
    Vid Rate: 29.97 fps
    Compressor: DV/DVCPRO-NT
    Data Rate : 3.6MB/sec
    Aud Rate 48.0 KHz
    Aud Format: 16 Bit
    Pixel Aspect: NTSC-CCIR601
    Field Dominance: Lower(even)
Or at least that's the information I got from FCE. The footage is 3 seperate camera angels with about 75 minutes for each camera. I'm assuming they mean to have someone else edit it, but what program they would be using, I really don't know. When you state "1) an actual copy of the raw footage", do you mean a tape copy? I do not want to give them the original tapes it was recorded onto.
"QuickTime/DV or QuickTime/AIC" I do not know the difference. I refer to myself as the Cole Trickle (Days of Thunder reference) of video editing. I don't know how or why the car works, I just know how to drive it. With video editing, I do not know all the internal knowledge of aspect ratios or what a codec is, but I know how to tell a story and get that feeling onto a TV screen. Yes, I am limited by my own ignorance, but I am a visual learner. I can read it 100 times, but if someone shows me once I have it down.
Aside from the rant, I want to deliver the footage on DVD. Our original agreement was for myself to edit the footage, but I respect the free market. I want to be as profesional as possible when it comes to business. I fell into this client backasswards, and wasn't meaning to create a full time career, but they liked my work and I liked doing it.

  • I need to share raw footage that is already imported into iMove, how do I do that?

I have raw footage imported into iMovie '11 that I need to beable to give to someone else, is this possible without first turning it into a project and exporting it that way?

Go to ~/movies/imovie/imovie events, then copy the files to a DVD or an external hard drive.

  • Does ARRI RAW footage even work in Premiere Pro CC?

Does ARRI RAW footage even work in Premiere Pro CC? After importing, some footage just says "media pending", and some just appears as a black video. The interface is also extremely sticky. I am working on a current generation Mac Pro, so I don't think it can be performance issues.
The footage seems to work fine on my old PC in Premiere Pro CS6. I was wondering if CC lacks the ability to process ARRI RAW.
    Thank you
    - Tom

OK. Think I've got it now thanks to looking at the short keys and searching for "Full Screen".  The upper left key is "`" which looks like a grave - a slightly angled single quote. But when I look at the "Application" setting for Toggle full screen it is set to "'" - a "normal" single quote.  Sure enough, if I hit the normal single quote key the toggle works.
I have not been anywhere near the hotkeys and can't imagine why anything would change it from a grave key to a single quote - especially as they look almost identical on the screen.  I'm guessing that Adobe changed this (maybe only for international users?)
Anyway I now know how to toggle full screen, although it makes the "Premiere" keyboard with its big purple key for "Toggle full screen" redundant.  Does make me wonder what the shortcut key of "'" or CTRL + "'" gives that I'm presumably missing since it appears to have been remapped.

  • Quality of edited vs. raw footage

    Hello,
I recently edited together a short video out of clips from my GoPro 3 Black, and then imported that sequence to Encore and burned to Bluray along with the raw footage I had taken. The editing was just cuts, and I layered in a song. I noticed when testing the Bluray that the video quality of the edited sequence is not as good as the raw footage, there is quite a bit of artifacting compared to the raw stuff. Any ideas why this would be? I've done quite a lot of basic editing, but don't really know that much about transcoding and codecs and whatnot.
Edit: I'm not sure that this is useful or not, I don't think it is, but anyways, before I imported my sequence to Encore, I thought I had to export the video from premiere for Bluray, so I did that, but then I found I could just import my sequence in Encore, so I don't think that export was used. At leas that is my assumption.

    Stan Jones wrote:
Would the settings you are referencing be the "Default Transcode Settings?" I have Encore set to:
The rest are grayed out and can't be changed, 1440x1080, 29.97, Upper Field First.
The default transcode settings are applied to menus and slideshows. You can specify many other options for assets used in timelines.
The greyed out settings you pick when you create a new project. Then they cannot be changed for that project.
A custom transcode setting can be chosen at any point prior to building a disc. You have access to any preset in AME, and can customize a presets bitrate.

  • Raw footage went in small and exported HUGE

When I imported my footage from my video camera it was a nice, big still, size. It was approximately 6GB. This is large but manageable. But when I edited it only a very small amount and exported it into .avi format it is now 51GB!
What can I do to reduce this size?
    Thanks,
    Jay
