Cinema 23" contrast problem

I have just noticed on my Cinema 23" that any pale tints below 9% are just not there they've completely disappeared. An obvious evidence of it is in photoshop when I go to the Color Picker the top left corner of the color select box has gone pure white for about 5mm.
If I design a drop shadow/tint in Illustrator OR FreeHand on my G4 connected to my old 17" screen using any value below 9% and then open the file on my MacPro connected to my new 23" cinema the shadow/tint is invisible.
I have tried calibrating several times (expert and basic) and adjusted brightness but to no avail.
Has this happened to anyone else - am I missing something completely obvious?

I have this issue too and am quite frustrated.
The accesibilty panel doesnt have anything to do with my problem.
I do pro level motion gfx and multimedia design and it is impossible to verify that alpha masks and soft graduations are showed perfect. The screen is useless for any design work.
I made a website with a few tests for my local Apple tech service center
check it out here:
http://lab.desilence.net/cinemascreen_test/
They said that my screen was perfect according to their internal test tools. But they could easily see the problem when i showed the tests on the web.
The apple service center concluded that all their 23" screens had the same issue. And that it might be a problem with part of or the entire generation of the latest version of the 23"cinema screens
If your cinemascreen is the latest model i will encourage you to check out the tests - and i will be happy to hear about the results.
I will put photos and video of the issue up shortly
Cheers,

  • Personal Cinema 5200 Sound Problem/DVD Question

    Hi,
    I'm running
    P4 3GHz Prescott
    1Gb RAM
Asus P4P800E-Deluxe with onboard realtek 5.1ch sound setup
    MSI 5200 Personal Cinema 128
    Two problems:
Firstly, I can get my normal 4 TV channels for the area I live in, however I only have sound on 3 of these channels. The other one has sound intermittently come on and off, I've tried re-tuning but that doesn't seem to make any difference (it seems strange that it's the channel with the best reception!!!)
Secondly, my motherboard came bundled with WinDVD 5, which unlike the Personal Cinema-bundled dvd player supports 5.1 sound...is there any way of getting the NVDVD/remote to open WinDVD instead of the bundled player?  When I try to change the player that the remote opens, it can only find its bundled player...do I have to re-install the Personal Cinema software everytime I install a new media program so that it can find it?
    Regards,
    Nic

One more thing if the movie is on Full Screen in Cinema Display and the MacBook screen is down and I lift the movie switches to the MacBook as it should d and I get this message:
The selected movie won't play on one of your connected display
This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection).
Try moving the iTunes window to a different display. Make sure the entire window is on the supported display.
The same thing happens if it was palying in an iTunes Window or a Separate window.
Is this normal or another symptom of the problem with the sound and what may be causeing it?
    Thanks,
    David-Paul

  • IPod 3G Contrast problem

    Hi,
I have a Third generation iPod 15GB that I bought a year ago. Just in November, I get contrast problems. Somehow my iPod would change the contrast and would even show the iPod logo when I turn it on after charging it full on the dock. Anyone help me please? I am sick and tired of changing the contrast back to full contrast.

I have to enter another network (do not choose default network, enter the network name and enter the password. It works!

  • Cinema Display 30" problem

    Hi
I have a 30 inch Cinema Display from 2006-ish. I have not used it for a while and when i powered it up again a few days ago it was kind of broken.
There is no image from my Mac, only these vertical lines (check the photos). The lines change a bit if I move a window around and using a different Mac does not help.

The screen itself appears to be intact. Does anyone know of anything I can try to get it fixed? Or replace a part or two?

If you're not yet sorted - I had similar prob with my then 1 year-old iMac - AppleCare swore blind it wasn't a hardware problem and told me to wipe my hard drive and re-install EVERYTHING...!
Fortunately, I didn't believe them, and hunted thru various forums...and identified that, as I thought, it WAS a hardware prob - and the next AppleCare guy acknowledged it and sorted the repair, finally!
The heat sensor was from a bad batch (that it turned out Apple knew about and could have identified immediately by the serial number, so could have saved me days of frustration and wasted time) and it was erroneously turning the Mac off as what it perceived was a safety thing. Hope that helps...

  • Apple LED 24" Cinema Display audio problem under 10.6.8 (with post fix)

    Hi all,
I'm using an Apple LED 24" Cinema Display with a 2010 MBP 15" and had been using 10.6.8 without problem. After installing the post-fix I now get static noice on (clipping?) when music contains lots of base. If I switch the output to my MBP's built-in speakers then the audio is fine.
Is there any way to un-install the 10.6.8 post-fix?
    Thanks,
    Yanik

Solved the issue. This issue coming up after installing the 10.6.8 supplemental update was just a considence. I ended up tracing the issue back to my Atlona AT-MDP21 Mini-DisplayPort KVM switch and after fiddling with cables the issue went away.

  • Brightness/Contrast Problem in CS3 & CS2

When I adjust (using legacy option) the sliders, then hit okay, the adjustments don't apply, and the image reverts to it's original state as if I hadn't adjusted the contrast or brightness at all. It did this in both CS3 & CS2. Has anyone else had this problem before?
My workaround was to make a B/C adjustment layer and then merge visible to a new layer, but it did the exact same thing. The new merged layer didn't have the B/C applied to it. This is very strange.

We should move on but calling someone rude because they misunderstood something and made a poor judgement is uncalled for.
Moving on I think that the advice to use curve instead of B?C would offer better control
As to why the adjustment layer you used did not have an effect as expected there may have been a small selection active when you invoked the layers adjustment everything seem to work but it is is only being applied to what might be a very small selection. Perhaps one you are accidentally creating. Check to see if you have a selection tool active and watch how you are moving the cursor.
I hold the stylus in a funny way and sometimes make a selection and swear i am not touching the tablet with the stylus but on more careful observation or by just hitting escape or command D and then making the adjustment all is well.
This might not be your problem but it is the only one I can think of at the moment.
if this is the problem keep in mind this is not really a photoshop problem or solution and an unlikely scenario, even though it is a possible one.
No one here would be expected to know this and of course it can be quite off base.

  • Apple 30" inch Cinema Display pixelation problems

This is following on from a similar thread which is as yet unresolved the thread was called "30" with edge effects, green pixels?"
My setup is Mac Pro 3GHz Dual Intel (Brand New)
Graphics Geforce 7300 GT with a brand new 30" apple cinema display.
The problems is that pixelation occurs at random times and is only solved by changing the screen resolution down and then back up to its native setting. Is there a away to solve this problem. Someone on the thread mention above thought that it might be a syncing problem between the monitor and the card but the thread was never resolved and it is dated October. By the way I have check whether its plugged into the correct port and it is so any suggestions or bug fixes would be helpful thanks.

I've had my 30" display for 1 year running on an "old" G5 with an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro card (along with an "older" 20" Apple Cinema Display, the one with the plastic bezel). No problems with the 30".
A few weeks ago I got a Mac Pro with the ATI Radeon X1900 XT card. That's when I got the green pixelation problem. I thought it must be the card (since the monitor works just fine on lesser cards...), so I took the entire Mac Pro and X1900 to the Apple Store and hooked it up to one of their 30" monitors: no pixelation problems after over an hour of test running it with Aperture, Safari, etc. ****. I began to think that Apple has made some sort of change in the more recent 30" monitors to avoid the problem; either that, or my monitor is old and tired after only 1 year.
My 30" still runs fine when I put it back on the old 9600 card; it does ok (with only Minor intermittant pixelation lines) on the original (lesser?)card that came as base equipment on my Mac Pro; and it has the MOST pixelation problems with the BEST card (the X1900). Perhaps these 30" monitors can't handle all the data being sent by the more powerful cards? Is that possible?

  • CS5 contrast problem while printing

I've got at problem with my color settings in Photoshop Cs 5.
All pictures look completely normal on screen - this has been tested on different computers and monitors. The contrast and colors are also fine.
But, when printing the picture, that means develloping that picture in our digital minilab (Noritsu QSS 3300) the picture looks completely different. The contrast is way too high - the picture seems to have a rought yellow blur - the color saturation is too high, and hue is a bit changed also. It doesnt look the way it was on screen.
I do not know, what to do now. The only possibility to solve this problem is to open and simply save the picture in photoshop version (CS4) on another pc, without adjustments for color or saturation or whatever. After that the pictures again to the minilab - now they are completly normal! Just like they have been the whole time on screen. How can we solve that problem with CS5.
Is there a wrong color managment setting.
We compared the settings with our CS4 pc and there are no differences at all.
What is the problem - and how can we solve it?
    Kind regards!
    Jananaj

    Hi Mylenium,
our monitors are calibrated using the spider tool. We shoot all pictures using the Adobe RGB color profile. Our MiniLab prints with SRGB color profile. Our Photoshop are also set for the SRGB profile. I don't think that our problem is an improper calibration, but a wrong color profile in Photoshop CS5. This is because the pictures looks the same using Photoshop CS4 or CS5 on all of our monitors. But the pictures saved in CS5 having the mentioned problem, and the same pictures resaved in CS4 without adjustments have them not. Thurthermore, the pictures resaved in CS4 looks in all Viewers on all Computers the same as the original from CS5. Only the printer shows the difference. We think that the SRGB color profile from CS4 has been "optimized" by Adobe in CS5  but in a way that something doesn't work correctly for us. I can upload some pictures were the difference cannot be seen in a viewer but in our printings.

  • TV out low contrast problem with Tiger

I just recently upgraded to Tiger and went straight from 10.3.9 to 10.4.5.
My mini-DVI to TV adapter has always worked perfectly before, but now the display on my TV is very dim, with extremely low contrast and brightness. The TV is recognised correctly and all the settings, color profiles etc. are correct.
I have verified that this is strictly a software issue as booting from 10.3.9 fixes the problem, and the output to TV is bright and beautiful once again.
I've searched, but found no mention of this particular problem anywhere. I would love to find a solution as the TV out from the PowerBook is basically broke, and dragging the external FW drive to the TV to boot from 10.3.9 is not a practical option.
    PowerBook G4 12" 1 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   768 RAM

Thought it wouldn't do any harm to run MacJanitor - but it didn't do any good, either.
This continues through restarts. It is definitely local to this one machine as another Mac does not show it.
EDIT If I go in via http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=160 I get the same thing except the Recent Threads only show solved/question icons, no titles or anything else.

  • Personal Cinema TV5200-VTDF128 problem - no channels

I'm having a problem setting up the TV Tuner on two FX5200 Personal Cinema cards.  System specs are similar:
    System 1:
    =======
    Motherboard: MSI KT6V-LSR
    CPU: Athlon XP2500+
    RAM: Infineon 512MB PC3200 DDR
    HDD: 80GB Maxtor
    CDRW: MSI 52x32x52 CDRW
    FDD: Panasonic
Vid: MSI FX5200 Personal Cinema (TV5200-VTDF128)
    System 2:
    =======
    Motherboard: MSI KT6V-LSR
    CPU: Athlon XP2500+
    RAM: 2x Infineon 512MB PC3200 DDR
    HDD: 120GB Maxtor
    CDRW: MSI 52x32x52 CDRW
    FDD: Panasonic
Vid: MSI FX5200 Personal Cinema (TV5200-VTDF128)
All drivers have been updated to most recent versions from the MSI or NVIDIA sites, as appropriate.  BIOS for motherboards and video cards have been flashed to most recent versions.
    Problem:
    ======
When I start Media Center Deluxe II, I get no video (though I can hear audio).  If I do a channel scan, it slowly cycles through each channel number.  During this process, the screen stays black.  Afterwards, if I try to change channels, it tells me to do a scan first.
When I start MSIPVS, I get video and audio.  When I change channels, it shows the new channel number, but continues to show the original channel.  And when I do an AutoScan, it quickly rips through the whole channel list and leaves all channels marked invalid.  Changing the video input standard (NTSC_M, NTSC_M_J etc) has no effect.  Interestingly enough, the one channel it shows is not always the same.  At first it was showing channel 2, then it was showing 21.
I have tried various versions of the WDM drivers, both from MSI and NVIDIA.  I have tried the unified multimedia drivers from both sites, as well as the individual drivers (separate WDM and VGA).  I am still getting the same problem on both systems.  All Windows Updates have been done.  The one thing I haven't been able to update is MSIPVS itself, as I have not been able to find a download link for it.
If anyone has any ideas (or knows where I can download a newer version of MSIPVS) I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance
    -Cameron

I`m no expert on this but I`ve had similar problems with my FX5200-128 Personal Cinema card which I have managed to solve. These have included TV picture without sound, unreliable TV capture and channel selection problems. It seems that to get good capture you must start off with a strong aerial signal for the card to work best. This is especially true if you experience poor channel lock.
If you have TV picture without sound then IMO this points to some conflict/incompatibility with video and audio on the PC. I started with simple onboard audio and only managed to get TV sound after adding a cheap SoundBlaster PCI card (make sure the onboard audio device is turned off in BIOS afterwards to avoid problems).
I also met a curious problem with TV Standard selection. I live in Greece and the TV Standard used here is PAL-B. The FX5200 setup insisted that this should be SECAM. This caused a lot of grief and the only way I`m able to get good capture is if I use nearby Turkey - which the settings happily accept as PAL-B. This is covered briefly in the User notes somewhere. So, depending where you are, you may have to log to some neighbouring country to achieve optimum capture.
    Hope some of this helps.

  • Contrast Problem?

Am I the only one who have bad contrast on my ipod touch. Dark video looks bad, even the halo around the battery when the ipod is syncing. I already exchange it for another one and the new one have the same probleme even in worse ...
    Thanks

Odd - this was an issue with early shipments of the ipod touch but have since been corrected. When did you make the exchange? I got an ipod touch for Xmas and the contrast is great.

  • My Ipad4 has an obvious problem with overcontrast. This is a factory defect isn't it? This contrast problem bothers me.

My Ipad4 has been having a problem when I close apps. The contrast of the screen has been fluctuating. Any tips?

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • Anyone else noticing mid-contrast problems using Aperture 2.1?

Before I moved up to Aperture 2.1 (never had just 2.0, so I don't know if it's affected or if it's just 2.1), I would use the highlight and shadow mid contrast adjustment for all of my contrast adjusting. I rarely used the actual contrast slider that was in the exposure tab.
I've noticed after I imported my old library that any picture I click on that was edited with Aperture 1.5.6 or before that any high-contrast images (again, adjusted with the highlight and shadows mid contrast slider, not the main contrast slider) that I click on, the parts of the picture that are too dark to contain information turn into this weird negative image of the detail that used to be there.
The thumbnail will look like it did on previous version of the software, then I click on it, the picture will pop up and look like it did, and then when it's finished loading all the lost data will turn into a negative image of what was there. I can't even look at most of my old pictures or they'll be messed up.
At first I thought it was just the software showing me that there was no data there, kind of like the highlight and shadow indicators, but the changes are present in files that are exported.
This is incredibly disappointing seeing as how most of my images feature a slightly high contrast look to the. I also had many presets that could mimic cross processing and mimic HDRs that made portraits look fantastic and I can't use either of them anymore.
I've sent a feedback complaint to Apple, so hopefully it'll be fixed in future upgrades. I love everything else about the new software, but this has put a huge damper on things.
Just wanted to know if anyone else is having this problem, and better yet, if anyone has a fix for it.
    Thanks!

It happened with the latest Aperture update (2.1) which came out late March. It's been bothering me ever since. Yeah, and we've asked the Aperture team to fix the bug a while back (cf http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7281885).
The software update process employed by Apple seems to be quite convoluted for a fix to take this long... else the bug is sitting in the system and can't easily be resolved. I hope that we get a fix with or close to system 10.5.4.
What is really bothersome is that Apple, as ever, is real tight-lipped about their release schedule. Again, I'm sure this is to do with how their software is interconnected (Aperture depends on CoreGraphics depends on the System depends on ...). It really doesn't help productivity since planning ahead becomes difficult (when do I get to process my new portraits)?
    Somewhat annoyed,
    Karl

  • Cinema display sound problem after Mavericks update

Since I updated to Mavericks, sound only comes from my laptop speakers, instead of from my LED Cinema display's speakers. And when I look at Sound in Preferences, there is no longer the option to change the sound source. Anyone come across this and know how to fix it? Thanks.

    Hey there Kravmafan,
It sounds like you are not getting the sound options you are expecting when using a cinema display. I would suggest using these troubleshooting steps from the following article, named:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1573
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling
