Firewire Problem When Using External Burner

Before I go into detail about my problem let me say that I contacted the manufacturers CS and they were unable to help (sent a new burner and I still had the same problem).
I finally got an external DVD burner, the lacie d2 with Lightscribe, and I plugged it in the firewire port, updated it with all the latest drivers and tried burning some cd's from an iTunes (7.1) playlist. It checked the media, started to burn the first song and and immediately went to finishing the disc burning without going through the other songs. But then it just hung there (the player started running, I could hear it, but when it froze after the 1st song he player just quieted down). I left it alone for awhile figuring it would eject the disc but nothing happened. I was unable to stop the process, quit iTunes or even eject the disc. Eventually I had to force quit and restart the computer.
I tried it using Toast but I got an error the first time and the second time I tried it froze on the burn screen. The funny thing is I'm able to burn when using the usb connection (it's really slow though, 1.0) and I'm able to rip cd's when connected via friewire but burning causes all types of problems.
The burner shows up on the system profile (vendor supported after updating with drivers), I've switched firewire cables, and used both ports on the iMac and the dvd burner, and after contacting Lacie they sent me a second burner but the problem persisted. I use a lacie external hard drive and never had a problem with it so I was wondering if anyone had an explanation or a similar problem. If not I was thinking of sending this second one back and trying the new Sony firewire dvd burners.
And one last thing, I got this because my superdrive gave up on me, although it's still recognized in the system profiler, it just doesn't start up if I put in a cd or dvd.
Please help as I'm at the end of my rope with this burner.

I'm curious if the internal superdrive's inaccessibility to the system and
the firewire port issues are related; or share a common thread in how
they may require one action to try and make them work.
Aside from that speculation, have you tried seeing what the Apple
Hardware Test (boot the computer from it) says in regard to this
matter and the details of any error codes it may generate? And
if you can run Disk Utility from the installer OSX disc#1 from the
external FireWire disc drive, to see if any maintenance can help
the system, that would be nice.
There also are third-party freeware disc burn utilities; and a few share-
ware ones that are quite good. They usually will work in problematic
situations where the hardware is OK and the basic OS X is, too; but
for some reason the external FW or internal replacement Superdrive
won't burn a disc or does it partially; or improperly. I've used my disc
burners so rarely I am not a great one to improvise here; but I did get
Burn 1.7u (v12) http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net and it does work well.
Can you boot the computer from any of the DVD - Firewire external
recorder/players you have or had? You should be able to boot the OSX
from the installer disc#1 from a good external; but some may not do it.
Was there any issue in the procedures you described before upgrading
the system to 10.4.9? How about Quicktime 7.1.5 or iTunes 7.1.1?

Firewire problems when using externalsound card

Hello I seem to be experiencing problems with the firewire port when connecting an external sound card, Makie onyx 1220.
All was fine on my old Hp computer but having just spent a small fortune on T410 specifically for use as a performance machine i find that lenovo have made the Ricoh firewire Host controller share the same irq/PCI as one of the usb ports and the intel turbo boost feature, rendering it completely useless for audio work as it interrupts every couple of minuets leaving a high pitched whine.
Why? I'm not sure, apparently this was a problem with computers bought before 1995, it is now 2011 and lenovo, "the professionals choice" seems to think this is still the way to do things, i wish i had done my research before i bought this machine, or did i say peice of junk.
Basically i can disable both the usb Enhanced Host Controller - 3B34, and the Intel Turbo Boost technology driver, but why should i have to?
Maybe there is a way in the bios to fix this to have the Ricoh firewire Host controller set to a new IRQ/PCI, it's own perhaps, as an idea, but given my limited knowledge i fear this may be a hardware problem in the construction of the machine. Well looks like i will be asking for a full refund soon and will certainly post on the audio forums that lenovo is not the choice for someone looking to do Audio work of any kind, professional or amateur.

When i switch off the, turbo boost and usb post set to the same IRQ yes i can use it fine, no cut out.
When it cuts out basically there is just left a high pitched noise with no audio at all except this noise.
I could by an express card, maybe there is a problem with this as well by the sounds of it but really lenovo should make sure their top end machines are working rather then me having to disable parts of the machine and spend more cash on external hardware.
I bought from lenovo and will phone up tomorrow asking for a refund as it is a problem with the construction of the machine and not just because i don't like it, really a waste of time for audio, not stable not suitable and definitely not professional.
I know they do sell it as an audio machine but neither do Mac, I guess the reputation comes from the days when think pads were IBM and the hardware and drivers were better integrated and designed, alas does not seem to still be the case.
Hope to get a full refund and then buy a better more stable machine, possibly a mac.
I know people working with audio are t not there main client base and therefore there will be no interest in this thread from Lenovo but a machine at this price end should be stable enough to handle this sort of work with out additional hardware.
Hope you read this before purchase if you are thinking of one of these machines for audio, DON'T, not worth the time or money.

Apple TV sync problems when using external drive in iTunes

I have my iTunes library on an external drive in order to save HD space. Unfortunately the external driver some times get disconnected and I need to mount it again.
Since iTunes can not find the songs when the drive get disconnected, all songs are marked with an exclamation mark . So far no problem as the song will play immediatelly when i click on it.
The problem is now with the Apple TV. It seems that as soon as a song get an exclamation mark it get removed (!!!) from the Apple TV playlists. I would expect that the song is still available in Apple TV although in iTunes is marked with an exclamation mark, as this is only a temporary non availability.
The consequence is that one song in Apple TV may or may not be available for playing in dependency of the availability of the original song and its external drive in iTunes.

I believe you created this problem at the very beginning by not letting iTune to manage your iTune folder. When this occurs iTune can only play songs when your external HD is connected.
You mentioned you want to save HD space. The better solution will be to put the most played songs in your HD and let iTune manage the folder and backup all the other songs to your external HD. Best way to find out is to check out the most played from your list and backup the least played to your external HD. Better yet, backup all songs.

Volume Problem when using external midi instruments

Hi everyone, I'm having a problem recording the audio from my external midi instruments into Logic 8.
I have all my external midi instruments set up in my environment and they are all going through a motu micro lite interface, with the audio going through a focusrite saffire pro 40.
The way I record Midi into Logic is to load up a new software instrument-select external instrument-find the relevant synth & input-record the midi that I want & adjust as needed-bounce down to an audio channel.
The problem Im having at the moment and have had for a little while is that when I record this way, the audio that accompanies the midi, although I can hear it loudly through my monitors, the input levels in Logic are really small and when I come to bouncing down and listen back to it, it is a lot quieter than I'd originally heard.
With the Pro 40 comes the Mix Control surface, upon checking this the volume on the master output channels is much more representative of the volume I'm hearing through my monitors, and it isn't the same within Logic. I've checked that I haven't got an output coming through channels on this at the same time as its coming through Logic which would result in the sound being doubled and obviously louder, this definitely doesn't appear to be the case.
Its really puzzling and quite annoying me, If anyone could shed any light on why this may be happening that would be fantastic, I've used this forum a few times and I've always found people to be very kind & helpful.

It was the first thing I was thinking about. Stop the "Software Monitoring" in the Logic Prefs and try again if you do not have any duplicated hardware routings.

Lightroom 5 - audio problems when using external output

I have installed Lightroom 5 on my Mac. I have linked my Mac to external output (so that it I can hear it through my hi fi). When I use any of my other programmes - eg iTunes - the sound goes through the external output. However, when I try to add audio on slide shows in Lightroom, there is silence, unless I disconnect the external output. Presumably, I need to make an adjustment somewhere so that the sound is sourced through the external output when I use Lightroom. Does anyone have any ideas as to this issue can be fixed, please?

I solved my own issue. I saw an article @ http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?19694-Spot-removal-tool-doesn-t-work-with-Wa com-Intuos-5-in-LR-5 that solved my issue.

After that, my spot edit tool stopped freezing in LR 5.2 while i was using my intuos 5 pen.

So it's possible that both need to be done in order for the freezing to stop. I hope this can help others.

Display problem when using external monitor

Got any ideas about this? My friend has extended his imac (intel) display to another monitor using the mini dvi to vga. He can't see a thing on the imac but the system is up. He see a faint outline of the windows on the imac but its really dark. The extended monitor is showing fine. He plugged it out, shut it down and all of that but the screen just does not display.

Same problem. I have always extended my monitor though. Today I went to lunch... came back... no display... I am using it right now though, I finally was able to figure out how to get the external monitor to act as a clone. The support guy said there wasn't a way to do this, but if you hit option F7 it will switch to clone, then you can go to the display settings and set the external monitor to have the white bar.
So its all functioning, but the laptop lcd is blank. Actually its just a white screen, which apparently is 'blank' though to me blank is black. It flickers and weird outlines show here and there.
The support guy was insistant it was a boot issue. But it can't be, everythign else works. Everywhere I look, there are people asking, and nobody from apple answering. He is sending me a box to send to support. 7-10 day turnaround... 7-10 days that I am going to be out of the water.
The support guy's computer crashed twice while I was on the phone with him.

Desktop acting weird when using External Monitor.

Hey guys,
Just wondering if people have been having this weird "problem" when using an external monitor on OS X Mavericks. Though not really an issue that makes the OS/Mac usable, it's more of a quality of life thing (and it's really annoying for someone who likes things to be where I put them).
Anyways, the problem is that when I use my external monitor when at home, I have it set as the main display while the monitor on my MacBook Pro 15" acts as the extended/secondary monitor. No problems in functionality, BUT, the icons on my desktop always move while my external monitor is in use.
I usually do my work while using my external monitor and I use my desktop as my initial location to save my work files before moving them to an appropriate folder. However, revert back to not using the external monitor, everything just gets muddled up on top of eachother, stuff (sometimes) get missplaced and it just becomes a hassle to rearrange my desktop to how it was before.
tl:dr: desktop icons move when I use my external monitor as my main display.
So does anyone know if this is a problem that can be fixed, or is it an issue my monitor being a 3rd party model and old?

Performance problem when using CAPS LOCK piano input

Dear reader,
I'm very new to Logic and am running into a performance problem when using the CAPS LOCK-piano-keyboard for input of an instrument: when I'm not recording everything is fine and the program instantly responds on my keystrokes, but as soon as I go into record-mode there is sometimes a delay in the response-time (so I press a key and it takes up to half a second longer before the note is actually played).
Is there anything to do about this to improve performance (for example turning of certain features of the application), or should I never use the CAPS LOCK keyboard anyway and go straight for an external MIDI-keyboard?

Does your project have Audio tracks and just how heavy it is, how many tracks? Also, what kind of Software Instrument do you use?

When using external speakers, they won't unmute

I am using a U530 Touch with Realtek HD Audio driver version 6.0.1.7535 and Windows 10 build 10240. When using external speakers, everything works fine, except when I mute speakers they will not unmute without unplugging the 3.5 mm speaker jack and plugging it back in to the unit. Using the laptop's internal speakers does not produce the same proplem (mute/unmute works fine). I have looked at every setting and find nothing, nor have I seen this problem reported in the forums. HELP!!!

By default the automatic fetch has a ‘Process Error Message’ of ‘Unable to fetch row.’

Button GET_EMP to submit
Branch Modified the conditional branch created during button creation to set P2099_EMPNO with &P2099_FIND_EMPNO.
If I then run the page, enter an existing employee number into P2099_EMPNO and press the GET_EMP button the form is populated correctly. But if I enter an employee that does not exist then I get the oracle error ORA-01403: no data found and no form displayed but a message at the top of the page ‘Action Processed’.I was expecting a blank form to be displayed with the message ‘Unable to fetch row.’
I can work around this by making the automated fetch conditional so that it checks the row exists first. Modify the Fetch row from EMP automated fetch so that it is conditional

But this means that when the employee exists I must be fetching from the DB twice, once for the condition and then again for the actual row fetch.

The reason I haven’t at the moment is I’m trying to stick with the automatic wizard generation as much as I can.

Coercion problem when using Shared Variable

I have a curious coercion problem when using Shared Variables. I want to share the state of a State Machine, which is an enum saved as a control (typedef) called TYPE State (see attached). I create a shared variable called State and define it as a Custom Control, using the just-mentioned typedef. So far, so good. I've attached three simple VIs -- the first one, Init State, simply wires a constant to the input of the Shared Variable to initialize it -- the wired constant is, of course, defined by the typedef. However, the Get State and Set State, meant to wire an indicator (for reading the state) or control (for setting it), develop coercion dots when wired into the Shared Variable. Why? How do I get rid of the dot? [I suppose I could abandon my typedef and custom control, but the beauty of typedefs and custom controls is that it "enforces" rules, lets you use enums for clarity, keeps the code "honest", etc. -- I'd hate to give that up just to get rid of a dot!].
On a related note, the code seems to work. This is much too simplistic to do anything, but if you open Set State and Get State, set the state to anything, run it (it immediately stops, of course), then run Get State, you'll see the chosen state appear in the indicator. So it does appear to work. The "error" (coercion dot) may, I suppose, be a "bug" in Labview because it can't figure out the mapping of the (very simple!) Custom Control, but if so, I hope it gets fixed quickly!

I am also seeing this behavior, I will escalate this question to our LabVIEW developers and post again here no later than next Tuesday, November 27th as National Instruments will be closed for the remainder of this week.
If this issue does turn into a product suggestion, I would suspect the workaround would to live with the coersion dot for the time being.

NLS support problems when using AL32UTF8 in dads.conf

Following a post by Joel Kallman, in one of the forum threads, about the mandatory use of AL32UTF8 in dads.conf, when running HTML DB v2.0, I changed my PlsqlNLSLanguage parameter accordingly.
Prior to the change, I experienced some problems when using non-English characters some application items appeared as gibberish when contained non-English characters, and the LIKE operator didn't perform as expected. After the change, it all seems to work OK, but now I have a different problem.
All the non-English characters in my HTML page source code appears as gibberish. On screen, at run time, everything display correctly, but the source code seems to be corrupted. It is very difficult, and very annoying to debug the pages that way. Is there a way to enjoy both worlds Using AL32UTF8 in the dads.conf, as required, and still getting a coherent HTML source code, containing non-English characters?

Using AL32UTF8 resulted in the same problem as described ( and fixed ) here: Re: Strange - HTML not written correctly
So, what is the proper configuration of the DAD, perhaps there are different ones for Unicode instances and non-Unicode instances.
