Cinima hd monitor A1082  dvi cable broken

the dvi connector from the monitor has 2 broken wires. i need either the dvi connector wiring diagram or where to get a new or second hand cable. apple tell me this cable is not available through themselves and a google search finds no results. please can someone help as i do not want to throw this away because of 2 broken wires

Hey there - I have the same problem - mine was cut off and when I took it to apple to resolve they basically told me to throw it away. Searching today I found this link which should hopefully solve my issue.
Hope it helps

  • View Sonic Monitor and DVI Cable

My cousin recently gave me a 2009 Mac Pro system and a View Sonic monitor, both of which were no longer being used at his workplace. The Mac Pro is working just fine and I have my old 23" Cinema Display from my Dual 2.7 G5 now hooked up to the Mac Pro.
I picked up a Gigaware 6-foot DVI-D Dual Link cable from Radio Shack and showed the guy there a picture of the DVI connector from the video card on my G5. He said that cable would work just fine. This morning, when I hooked the cable up to the View Sonic monitor and my G5, there's no picture. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting, rebooting, but nothing is working. The monitor does go from displaying an amber light before the computer is switched on to displaying a green light after it's been turned on, but yet there's no picture.
I also tried hooking the monitor up to my Mac Pro, but it doesn't display a picture there either. Of course, I was in the midst of copying some items between drives and couldn't reboot at that moment to see if that would change things.
It'd probably be more helpful if I posted exactly what kind of monitor it is, which I'll do once I get home.
One thing I have noticed is that the male DVI connector coming off the back of my 23" Cinema Display has less connector pins than the DVI cable I bought at Radio Shack.
Here's a link to what I bought from Radio Shack. Aside from it being overpriced, is it the right cable?

that cable would work just fine
Correct. You have bought the high-end Dual-Link cable when a Single-Link would do. It will work fine anyway.
The Mac requires that a new display respond to its query. It must reply with both its Name and its Capabilities. The query will be sent:
    a) When the Mac Starts up
    b) when a cable is attached at the Mac End
    c) when the (Detect Displays) button is clicked in System Preferences > Displays
The absolute simplest thing your Mac can do is Startup Manager, aka Alt/Option Boot. Hold down the alt/Option key as your Mac starts up, and it should draw a gray or blue screen, then slowly add an Icon as each potentially-bootable Volume is found (this may take several minutes).

  • Dvi cable not compatable with elite 8000

Hello! First post. I just bought a refurb HP Elite 8000,windows 7 and new HP 20xi monitor. DVI cable is not compatable with port on computer. Adaptor available? Can I use just the VGA cable?
    Thanks.

    Hi:
If you want to have digital video, then you need a display port to dvi cable.
In addition to the analog VGA port, that is the other video out port that the 8000 Elite has.

  • External monitor loses signal to macbook pro through DVI cable and Mini DisplayPort Adapter

    Hello,
So I had my external monitor connected to my MBP with a DVI cable and a Mini DisplayPort Adapter, for a while already. But sometimes, the monitor would lose signal from the laptop and gives me a white noise screen. Now, the monitor can't receive signal at all, even after I got a new Mini Displayport Adapter. When the monitor and the MBP is connected by the cable and the adapter, the monitor would say "no signal" and the MBP screen would flicker (I think it's trying to connect to the monitor, but can't). The new Mini Display Port Adapter also makes the screen flicker, so I'm not sure if it's the problem is at the adapter or the DVI cable. I'm pretty sure it's not the monitor.
What do you think? Have you ever have a screen flickering problem when your MBP is connected to an external monitor?

I have had the same problem.  By following your suggestions I got to arrangements.  I could not send them off to the side.  When I hit the mirro disply key everyting worked.  I got it solved by clicking in arrangements and setting displays to mirror display.
I am still have a problem of no sound coming through my tv.

  • VGA/DVI cable - wanting to use two monitors.

I got a VGA/DVI cable to connect the VGA port on my LCD TV to the DVI port on my desktop computer. I'm trying to use 2 monitors on my computer which has both a VGA and DVI port. My regular monitor was already on, and the computer detected the TV as a monitor but the TV wouldn't detect a signal. I had the TV on the VGA/PC setting. The cable was a return item so it might be defective. I was wondering if there's anything else I could try to get it to work?

My computer's DVI port doesn't allow for the contacts above and below the flat blade like the DVI-I and DVI-A connectors in the picture. The cable that I got does have those contacts.
Ooooooh.  So your computer may be one of the rare animals that doesn't have a DVI-I output, only DVI-D.
Since your TV has HDMI inputs, this is the way to go.  Get a DVI-to-HDMI cable.  It will provide higher quality than VGA and is USUALLY easier to use, I've never had video timing/resolution support issues with HDMI.  (However, every computer I own has an Nvidia graphics card - the story may be different for ATI or Intel graphics!)

  • Can I attach my HP monitor to Mac air with a DVI cable?

Can I attach my HP monitor w1907 to Mac air with a DVI cable?

You need to use a DVI to Mini DisplayPort adapter; for a 30-inch display, the adapter needs to be dual-link.

    Hi,
I bought the Samsung 931BF and was told it came with DVI cables but they are not the right ones so for now (even thought the monitor does have DVI input)I just have it hooked up via the DVI/VGA adapter.
The screen is actually quite crisp but I was wondering - am I going to see a significantly better image by using the DVI input ?
If so, what adapter or cable should I be looking for ?
Thank you so much for your reply !!

  • Mac mini display is flicking via HDMI to DVI adapter and DVI cable

i have received mac mini server (mid 2011) recently. mac mini is connecting the display via HDMI port using DVI cable with a HDMI to DVI adapter.
the display shows constant flicking. white dots/lines show randomly. it is like those signal noise when watching analog TV.
the same display works fine and well with macbook pro (early 2008) via DVI port.
    please help. please advise.

So you know the display is working.
It seems to me you have a few possible problems.
    1 HDMI-DVI cable is bad
    2 DVI-cable is bad
3 Connections between cables or computer or monitor are bad.
4 HDMI port on the computer is bad.
I assume you've tried #3, and re-connected cables and wiggled inputs.  So then try replacing 1 and then replacing 2 which are cheaper fixes than replacing/fixing 4.........
FYI, I'm connect my mac mini using the same setup you describe, with no issues....also inspect the cable ends carefully to look for any problems.

  • Going from DVI to DVI cable from VGA  to DVI cable problem

Got a mini with the VGA adapter to DVI working with no problem. When I decided to hook up a DVI to DVI cable, I got no picture. I had to reach behind the mini, press the power button to put it to sleep, then press the power button again to wake up the mini again to get a picture. The monitor is a 20.1 inch AOC monitor. The picture is sharp in both cases. The DVI to DVI setup is slightly smoother.

After I reboot I still get no picture. I have to reach behind the mini, press the power button to put it to sleep, then press the power button again to wake up the mini again to get a picture.

  • MBP does not detect external monitor on DVI connection...

(2007) MBP C2D 2.33 15", OSX LION 3gb.  Worked fine till about 3 days ago (right after installing the last round of updates).
My external monitor now fails to connect on DVI cable. Since it also has VGA, I was able to test this way with a DVI to VGA adapter and that worked perfectly, but the vga gives a lower resolution. Having estalished that the graphics adapter and the monitor were okay, I looked for other issues.
Starting the MBP in clamshell mode, it found the monitor on DVI. Then restarting normally, it all worked fine, UNTILL the MBP went to sleep. when it awoke, no external. Plugged, unplugged, trashed display prefs, nothing, though it does still work via DVI-VGA.
I don't think having to clamshell everytime is a workable solution, but I NEED MY DESK SPACE!
    Any thoughts?

Yesterday, having had the problem become far worse, I too tried PRAM/NVRAM clearing (SMC reset so many times I can't count them). Then, in desperation I purchased TechtoolPro 6 and ran it. Everything s working well now, and in fact the video issue cleared up while techtool loaded, it didn't even wait for me to run the thing!
More: About 3 weeks ago, I made a HardDrive image from an older white macbook so I could repair its hard drive. After doing that job, I (thought I) deleted the image from my MBP, but the disk still showed 80Gb used that wasn't before. So while I thought I had 130GB free, I was only showing 50. After running the directory rebuild, I now have 175gb Free! So the directory was keeping track of 95GB that WASN'T there! I suspect this had something to do with my problems.  Then running the Defrag and Optimization routines, my 2007 MBP is running like a brand new machine. Other things that had been buggy (like the right click on my magic mouse) are now working like they should.

  • Macbook can't detect external display via DVI cable

I just bought Samsung PX2370 monitor and attempt to connect it with my Macbook Aluminum (late 2008). I have mini display port to DVI adapter and DVI cable. When I hook up my Mac, nothing comes up. The screen on macbook goes blue briefly and then back to normal, but nothing has been detected. I've manually set the source of signal to DVI, and tried to use Detect Display but nothing happens. Even I try to detect the monitor by using Windows 7 (via bootcamp), the display remains idle.
I had tested the monitor using DSLR although by HDMI, it work.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey hparekh and welcome to the forum -
It looks like you have the correct hardware. You should check your connections... make sure your using the Mini DisplayPort and not the Ethernet port (common mistake) and all of the connections are plugged completely. Make all of your connections with your MacBook on and then turn your Dell on. You might need to go through your Dell's setup to make sure that it's recognizing a DVI input rather then HDMI.
Might be a bad DVI cable or a defective monitor or maybe a bad Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. Are they all new products?

  • No signal using DVI cable from mac mini

I have the dell 2007wfp monitor and I can't use the DVI cable I get the message No signal coming from your computer. then the display goes to sleep.
It works OK with the DVI to VGA but everything is stretched and peoples faces look weird.
I have a mac mini 1.66 dual core with 2 gigs ram and 667 mhz DDR2 SDRAM.
The monitors max res is 1680x1050.
    Any thoughts?

+Could it be that some monitors are harder on the video card/cpu?+
Yes, in a manner of speaking. In fact, Apple says as much. Some displays are "coherent" and some are "non-coherent" and they get treated differently by the mini. It says so on this Apple spec page for the mini in the second column under "Graphics and video support".
    http://www.apple.com/macmini/specs.html
Of course the problem is how do you know which you have, a coherent display or a non-coherent display? Answer: you don't until you get your new mini or new display home and discover the two don't play together.

  • HP 2310ei Monitor (DP/DVI-D) to VGA/HDMI laptop

So, I recently bought the HP 2310ei Monitor. It has DisplayPort and DVI-D connections.
Originally I had planned to just use a VGA/DVI adapter, but I didn't realise that there's a difference between DVI-I and DVI-D. Now I'm wondering, whats my best option?
Buy a Vga to DVI-D adapter? Or a Vga to DisplayPort?
Or maybe go with HDMI to DisplayPort?
On the official DisplayPort website I read that there is no efficient way to connect a VGA Laptop to a DisplayPort monitor because of Analog/Digital, whatever that means, but in a different topic on this bord I also read that someone who bought a HDMI to DisplayPort cable couldnt get it working, so I'm kinda at a loss.
    What are my best options?
    This question was solved.

There isn't a VGA to DVI-D adapter nor a VGA to DisplayPort adapter on the market, however there may be some expensive active convertors. Depending on your exact computer and its video output ports, you may have a few options. Being that you also ask about going from HDMI to DisplayPort, one can assume your computer has an HDMI out. If this is the case... the easiest, cheapest, and way to connect an HDMI output to the HP 2310ei is with an HDMI-to-DVI cable.

  • Switch 2nd monitor  between dvi monitor and hdtv

I have an Intel iMac and I use the mini-dvi output to have a second monitor for working on the computer and also to watch online videos on my hdtv. Both work great. The problem is I have to reach around the back of the iMac to unplug the dvi monitor and plug in the tv and then do it again when I want to get back to work. I am pretty sure that the mini-dvi socket is not built to be used twice a day or more, so I am eager to find a better solution (preferably cheap).

I am using the apple mini-dvi to dvi adapter with a dvi-hdmi cable to connect to the visio 42" hdtv and the same apple mini-dvi adapter with a regular dvi cable to connect to the Sceptre 22" monitor. The TV is in the next room, so it is not really practical to use as a second monitor, besides sometimes my wife wants to watch TV while I am working.
I think what i am going to do is get a small dvi extension cable and leave that connected to mini-dvi adapter which I will leave plugged into the iMac. That way I will just be plugging and unplugging into the dvi extension cable (which is more robust than the mini plug) which will be much easier than reaching blindly behind the iMac. If the extension wears out I can just get a new one rather than having to get the iMac repaired.

  • Dvi cable with hp w2007 display

I recently purchased an hp w2007 monitor to use with the mac mini. The VGA cable works fine using the dvi to vga adapter on the mini. However, when I connect the dvi-d cable that came with the monitor I get a black screen and a "no input signal" message. I contacted hp and we tried several things, but no change. I did a safe start-up and still no success. HP sent me a new dvi-cable but stillno success. Any other suggestions?

cathypt and amandamac, please notice the below link with some specific information that might help with your HP w2007. The solution linked to involves using a third-party program to build a custom timing that the HP will run from. cathypt, I notice you say you get a blank screen even when starting in Safe mode. That's going to be a problem because you need to get some kind of screen going over DVI for the solution to work.
