Cisco 1142N AP - Upgrade gone really wrong

Hi everyone,
I have run into a major issue with an autonomous Cisco 1142AP. We were in the midst of a firmware upgrade when something went wrong and caused the AP to reboot in an error mode. Basically the unit was flashing Blue, amber, red. We unmounted the unit from the wall, connected to the console, and it would now only flash red over and over.
We pulled out the cisco guides and performed a factory reset on the unit. This still does not work. and the contents of our flash directory is empty. All we get is a ROMMON AP prompt on the unit. If I issue a set command, I can see the default settings for IP, netmask, etc.
I cannot access the unit via the network, even after setting IP info and matching it up to my laptop. Since I have no network connectivity, I can't TFTP a new IOS file to the unit.
I am stumped. Any ideas how to get the config as if it was out of the box, or an alternate way to TFTP to the unit?
Here is a summary of what I get when I factory reset:

Notice the lines in red, I must have typed someting incorrectly. How do I remove this?
PS: Now once the unit boots after being reset, I cannot even type in the CLI. Someting majorly screwed up here.
Can the bootstrap be reinitialized?

Hi,
Unfortunately I had followed that portion of the procedure but I was unsuccessful. Unfortunately I could not connect to the unit at all.
What bothers me now is I cannot type anything in the CLI after I boot up, either normally, by interupting the boot, or by performing a reset.
Edit: I am now able to type in the CLI, but there is also kinds of bizarro information when I run the set command. Is there a way to clean up this set config? Also, is there any other mechanism to transfer the IOS image other than TFTP. Like I said, I can't connect to the unit via network, only console.

  • Cisco 1142N Radio interface gone

    Hi All,
I have around 20 1142Ns registered to 4402 WLC. WLC was saying:
         802.11a/n Radios     20
         802.11b/g/n Radios     19
So I compared and found the AP which had only 802.11a/n Radio. SSH-d to the AP and sh ver:
    1 Gigabit Ethernet interface
    1 802.11 Radio(s)
and if I try to configure the radio interface:
    apname(config)#interface dot11Radio ?
      <0-1>  Dot11Radio interface number
    apname(config)#interface dot11Radio 0?
    .  :  <0-1>
    apname(config)#interface dot11Radio 0 ?
    % Unrecognized command
    apnameconfig)#interface dot11Radio 1 ?
      <cr>
So as you can see dot11Radio 0 is gone. I've tried rebooting the AP with no success. I'm thinking there is a hardware failure with the radio antenna.
Has anyone experienced this kind of problem? What could be the cause?
    Thanks,
    Delgee

    Converted to autonomous, upgraded bootstrap:
ROM: Bootstrap program is C1140 boot loader
BOOTLDR: C1140 Boot Loader (C1140-BOOT-M) Version 12.4(23c)JA1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
Converted back to lightweight and the problem is still same:
    APxxxx.xxxx.xxxx#sh ip int br
Interface                  IP-Address      OK? Method Status                Protocol
Dot11Radio1                unassigned      NO  unset  up                    up
GigabitEthernet0           x.x.x.x       YES DHCP   up                    up
    LWAPP image version 7.0.98.0
    1 Gigabit Ethernet interface
    1 802.11 Radio(s)
Guess the only option left is to get it replaced under its warranty.

  • My Mac has gone really slow since upgrading to Mavericks. Any suggestions as to how to speed things up again?

My Mac has gone really slow since upgrading to Mavericks. Any suggestions as to how to speed things up again?

First, back up all data immediately unless you already have a current backup. If you can't back up, stop here. Do not take any of the steps below.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Removing imlib2-cvs: "something has gone horribly wrong

    Hi there,
I did a pacman -Syu today, and pacman wanted to replace imlib2-cvs with imlib2. So far, so good. I said "yes" to the removal, but pacman complained that ffmpeg and adesklets require imlib2-cvs.
So I deinstalled those two packages.
Now, if I try to upgrade, I get the following error message:
error: something has gone horribly wrong
If I pacman -R imlib2-cvs, it claims that imlib2-cvs is required by adesklets and ffmpeg--even though those two packages have been removed.
So obviously, something has gone wrong with the pacman "database." Question is: how can I fix it? Delete the entries for adesklets and ffmpeg in /var/lib/pacman? Delete the entry for imlib2-cvs? Do something completely different?
Some feedback would be much welcome. I hope my system is not broken for good ...
    Cheers,
    -Sascha.rb

    pacman -Rd imlib2-cvs
    pacman -S imlib2
... let me install the new imlib2 package, after all. No idea whether it fixed the weird dependency issue I had ("something has gone horribly wrong"), but at least it's working ...

  • Pacman: "something has gone horribly wrong"

    Hi all,
So I started The Big Xorg Upgrade on my laptop. First I removed xorg (to get around the bitstream fonts conflict) and started pacman -Syu. During the package downloads I noticed that I still use some old configuration where the downloads come from ftp.nethat.com , which is very far from me, whereas now I have a much closer mirror ftp.estpak.ee . So I killed pacman and wget, corrected pacman.conf, and rerun pacman -Syu. The downloads were finished nicely, but then I got the following message:
    checking package integrity...done
error: something has gone horribly wrong
I have never seen such an error before, and probably I should not have seen it at all. But still I did:) So can anyone tell me what it is about and under which conditions is it shown? Should I file a bug report?
    Jan
Edit: I cleared the package cache, downloaded all the packages from the same source and I still get the same message. So it was not a problem caused by the interrupted upgrade (and in fact I have done interrupted upgrades in the past with no problems). Any ideas and/or explanations are greatly welcome.

    Cerebral wrote:
Hm... try upgrading xorg first, maybe?

Tried that and the message is still the same.

  • Smartband SWR10 vibration has gone really weak

I've been happily using the SWR10 for several months with viration good on my wrist for notifications and waking me up.
Just recently though the vibration has gone really weak. You can barely feel it when holding the unit directly. So it's not enough when on my wrist.
I don't find anywhere to change the vibration intensity, so could it be broken? I haven't done anything crazy with it :-(

  • IOS 8 upgrade gone wrong - how do I get my data back?

I was upgrading my iPhone 5S to iOS 8 today using iTunes. Halfway through iTunes through an "unknown" error and recovered my phone back to the factory settings. I don't have any backups on either iTunes or iCloud (don't ask why).
I did a search for data recovery tools and it seems there are many out there that claim can get data back. Has anyone used any of these data recovery tools. Can they recover data in this situation?
I have lots of contacts, Messages and Notes which are gone forever if I can't recover them.
    Many thanks.

If your phone is back to factory condition, there's nothing to recover.
I won't ask why you didn't make a backup before upgrading as you requested.  Doesn't mean I'm not baffled.

  • Hard Drive and RAM upgrade gone wrong - please help!

I have a 2+ year old Mac Mini Core Solo that I recently decided to upgrade. Originally it had a 80GB hard drive and 512MB of RAM and I installed a 250GB Western Digital drive and upgraded to 2GB of RAM.
Everything went smooth with the reinstall of OSX and the Mini was actually working, Internet was working etc. I was in the process of downloading and installing all of the Mac SW updates and that went on for several minutes, it actually got through most of them and then a screen came up to tell me to restart the computer. I did and then got the same screen. Which was the gray screen with the restart message and a message like this:
panic (cpu 0 caller 0x00398C43); unable to find driver for this platform: "ACPI"
(Then there was a bunch of hexidecimal debugging jibberish and then some kernel version info.)
So I held down on the option key while doing the restart and tried to start from the internal disc and also start from the install disc. I can get to where I've reinstalled the first disc again, but then when I have to restart the computer to load the second disc I get the gray restart screen again with the above info.
During one of the attempts I brought up utilities and did a scan of the internal HD for defects and all the repair steps but it always said that everything was fine. When I bring up the general computer info it shows that I have 2GB of RAM. So it recognizes the two items that I installed.
So what do I do now? I am stuck on this issue and out of ideas, I havent tried to put back in the old hardware to test it, (but I would prefer not to as that doesnt really help me with the new stuff I bought).
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to offer as much detail as possible in case there is something in there that triggers an idea with someone. I dont live in a huge city so theres no apple store within several hours drive from here.
Can anyone help me with this? Thank you!
    crazychile

    Thanks for all the help.
It is a kernel panic and unfortunately it can be caused by a bunch of things. But I think I have it figured out for now.
My first step was to put the old RAM back in with the new HD, no change with the problem.
Then I put the old HD back in with the old RAM (original config) and everything was back to normal.
Then I tried the new RAM with the old HD and everything is also good. (and faster!)
So it would appear that the new HD was flakey and needs to go back to OWC.
Hey, I'm a pro at taking apart and rebuilding a Mini now!
    Thanks again for the help,

  • 10.2 to 10.3 upgrade gone bad, really bad!

Ok, here is the situation. My brother was trying to be kind and upgrade my Aunt's G4 17" flat panel iMac (iLamp) from 10.2.X to 10.3.3 using a machine specific install/restore CD from a 14" laptop. He wasn't aware that you cannot do this. The machine stopped the upgrade at some point as Disk 1 was finishing, errored out, and now won't boot past the grey screen of death.
We have tried it all (I'm 1150 miles away) via phone. Reset PRAM and PMU. Tried booting single user and giving commands that way, have tried booting in Safe Boot mode which results in Kernal panics.
The computer will not obey the c key on boot for any CD except the Hardware test cd, which is passes. We have tried booting holding the Option key, and it does recognize CDs as bootable, but will not actually start up from them. It also shows the Hard Drive but will not boot from it either.
Yesterday, we were able to start up in Target Disk Mode and retrieve all of the family's vital stuff on to the laptop for safe keeping. We tried Disk Utility which found nothing wrong with the HD. It would not let us repair permissions however (I think that is odd) as the button was greyed out.
Now we would just like to start over on this drive, but it won't let us! It will not even recognize the restore CDs the iMac originally came with, taking it back to some version of 10.2.
Any other ideas I haven't persued here? There may be more to this that I have even failed to mention as it has now been a three night adventure.

You said you were able to get into disk utility? And you also said you have everything (info) backed up off the drive? Have you tried using disk utility to erase and reformat the hard drive? Maybe try doing a reformat on the drive and create a different partition scheme. IE if it currently only has one partition, create two, reformat it then go back and reformat to a single partition.
One last ? when you reset pram did you let it chime 3 times? Try doing that then immediately let go and hold the c key.
There also could be something wrong with the cd drive. In that case you ( follow my directions exactly DO NOT DEVIATE from them.
Put the restore disk that came with the Imac into the laptop restart the laptop in target mode. With the Imac OFF now hook the laptop (still in target mode) and the Imac together with a firewire cable. Start the Imac holding the alt/option key, this might take a minute or two but eventually you should be able to see the reinstall disk ( I think you said 10.2) select that and hit the straight arrow. Hopefully it should start into the installer. Just make sure when it asks you where (which hard drive) you want to install it to, to select the Imac HDD (you may be able to see the laptop hdd as they are linked together) Don't disconnect the machines until the installation is complete.

  • HELP ME WITH HDX18 CPU UPGRADE GONE WRONG

I am not a regular member of this forum and logged on today because I really need help
Here is the story. I wanted to upgrade my old HP HDX18 to the Q9100 processor which is the highest one listed in the service manual. I studied the manual intently and made sure this was an ok upgrade.
I disassembled the notebook exactly as it was done in the manual down to the motherboard. I installed the Q9100 and then reassembled exactly as it was in the manual. I found with the hard drive connected, a Crucial M4 SSD-solid state drive, the computer came on for about 10 seconds getting to the windows logo and then shut down. However, with the drive disconnected I found that I could access the bios and the computer would not shut down.
I decided to reinstall the old processor and the exact same thing happened. I ran diagnostic tests while in the bios screen with the drive connected and it appeared all was ok. When the drive was reconnected I got this error screen.
I did use Phobya HeGrease. The Q9100 processor was a used processor off of ebay. I looked on the Intel website and it is unlikely this is an engineering sample.
I searched the internet and found that some others have had this exact same problem and they corrected by reseating the CPU. I looked at the CPU again and found that this seems fairly simple. It seems like its in their securely. Its just a drop in and screw. When its locked, I cant seem to get it out with my hands.
I read some articles about how too much Thermal paste might cause this to happen and I probably had on a bit too much.
So please help me out with any ideas. Right now my HDX18 is in a pile on the floor.
    Thanks for your help!
Here is a video of exactly what is happening and you can see an error code in the diagnostic log which comes up towards the end of the video.

    Hi,
The good thing is that the cpu is probably not the issue. I have noticed that a memory test failed so it could be magnetized during the disassembly/assembly. If you remove the ssd and are able to access the BIOS, it might suggest that the problem is the ssd. Make also sure that the memory is compatible with the cpu as better cpus support faster memory.

  • UPGRADE GONE WRONG...

I have an iPod photo...I had around 7000 songs, a few photos...and some downloads from limewire on it. I upgraded to the latest version...so here is what happened:
    1. Suddenly, my music collection will no longer fit on my ipod...previously, the collection was circa 6k songs 17 megs....it is now 70+megs
    2. All songs in the library are at least dulpicated, some quintupled.
    3. My limewire dls are now showing 1.6mb each (really).
I wish I hadn't bothered, I restored my ipod as it had backed up with everything, twice, treble, etc...
I spent a few hours, manually deleting the EXTRA repeats in iTOONS library but, still no result worth mentioning.
Can I have my old itunes and disk space back, I had photos and all sorts on there too and it's all messed up
    Solution??
Any help would be most welcome.

  • Another iphoto 6 "upgrade" gone wrong

I am not sure what happened. I am using a PowerBook G4 and was running iPhoto 5.0.4. Somewhere along the line, somehow, I upgraded to iPhoto 6. I would have never paid for it...maybe a trail version got thown into the automatic updates??
I now have both library.iphoto and library6.iphoto files in my iphoto file.
When I go to open iPhoto i get an error that reads.
You can't open your current iphoto library using this version of iphoto.
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.
I am not sure how to fix this. Please help

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Virtually every major release of iPhoto has involved changes to the library structure. When you upgrade there is a message saying that iPhoto needs to upgrade your library and that it will not be readable by earlier versions of the app.
The only fix for your issue is to upgrade to the same version as your parents.
Alternatively, you can access the DVD via the Finder and drag the pics from the Originals folder to your iPhoto. You'll get the pics but none of the albums, slideshows, metadata etc.

  • I have upgraded to the lastest version but I still get the popup every few days to upgrade, is something wrong or do you really have that many new upgrades?

I downloaded the new upgrade and did what the box told me to do and after the upgrade I still get the popup box telling me to upgrade to the same Firefox version 3.6.10.

You are currently two versions behind in updates, '''3.6.12''' is the latest version.
Updates usually happen on the average of like once a month, but occasionally an update can occur within a week of a previous update - especially when a major security fix is needed, like what happened with 3.6.12 and 3.5.15 this week.

  • HD Upgrade gone WRONG!!! OS dvd wont boot after HD format

I just upgraded my original 160 GB Hard Drive to the Seagate Momentus 500GB HD 7200 RPM. Loaded in the install dvd for Leopard 10.5 that I was sent from Apple Care. Went into Disk Utilities and formated the HD into one partition, GUID and Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)(Source: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2131586&tstart=45).
Then I went to actually install the OS, using "first time install" and an error message popped up. I ejected the dvd to try again, now my Macbook wont boot from the installation dvd. I am holding down "C" as the computer turns on and the "apple", a folder with question mark" and a "circle with line through it" keeps flashing. When I hold down the "Option" button I see the icon for the dvd but when clicked nothing happens.

Is your old hard drive functional? One option that avoids the install disc problem altogether is to clone your old drive.
Replace the old drive in the MacBook. Then purchase a USB SATA enclosure--these can be had cheap most anywhere these days--and put the new drive in that.
Plug the new drive into your MacBook, and use SuperDuper! to create a bootable clone:

Install the new drive into your MacBook, and you're good to go.
