Cisco 1310 Roam Settings

I am trying to optimize my roam settings on a Cisco 1310 operating in WGB mode.  The WGB will roam around and connect to various 1310s configured in LAP mode.
There are some optional settings that can be set including changing the beacon retries, data retries and also the RSSI level to force the WGB to roam if the RSSI reaches a certain level.
Does anyone know of any issues with these settings? For instance, I run my network at 9Mbps and want to force a roam when the RSSI reaches -77dB or worse.
Is it better to force this parameter or to just use default Cisco settings?
Thanks for any help you can provide.  Cisco does detail the changes you can make but they don't go into much detail about the reasons for making changes to these options.
James

It depends a lot on the moving speed of the device. We've seen 10km/h WGBs and 80km/h WGBs mounted on trains.
It also depends on the coverage density. I never saw 2 situations where the same settings would work. It's more like a "try and see if it gives good results".

  • Cisco 1310 Roam Reason (Debug Output Possible?)

I have some 1310s. One is in WGB mode.  It roams between the other Access Points that are in LAP mode.
What I need to know is if there is a way to debug WHY the WGB roams.  Is there a debug that I can apply that will output the reason for the roam?  Usually it would be due to signal level change but there are other reasons as well.
Hopefully this is an easy one. I keep alternating between associated access points and I can't figure out why.
I have figured out that I can put the bridge in Install Mode to get an output of the RSSI level of the associated AP, but this does not tell my WHY the roam took place.
    Thanks!
    James

    Hi James,
Here is the show command which will tel us about the roam history.. But not a debugging output though..
    show client roam-history
    >> As such there is no debug that give us just the Roam details.. Debug client will provide very good info..
    >>  I think we can manually set the channel on that LWAPP to something so  that the WGB will associate to that.. or if the TX power iscausing the  issue, then playing around with the TX power on the LWAPP may help us.

  • Firmware crash on cisco 1310 Bridge while upgrade to higher version

    Dear experts,
My cisco 1310 Bridge old firmware C1310-K9W7-tar.123-8.jea3 is crash while i try to upgarade to the higher version C1310.K9W7-tar.124.10b.jda2 via HTTP service upgrade, any advise to get back the firmware.
    rgds,
    woo.

It appears that you are assigning IP address properly. For some reason we are not getting a response from TFTP server. This is typically one of 2 things:
    1. Firewall on the TFTP server workstation
    2. Connectivity issue between AP and TFTP server
I would check firewall settings on the TFTP workstation. Are you connecting the AP to the workstation directly or through a switch? If it is through a switch, you could plugin a different workstation to the AP switchport to make sure it could reach the server as well.

  • Cisco 1310 point to point encryption?

    Howdy.
We have two Cisco 1310 devices working currently in point to point mode. I have a couple of questions regards this..
    1. What is the best method to encrypt the point to point links between the two? We would like to use local passwords for this.
    2. We have two point to point links on each device. Would we be able to configure one link for encryption without dropping our connection to that device and then configure the second one?
    3. Is there any sample guide for point to point encryption?
    Many thanks..
    Taff.

    1. What is the best method to encrypt the point to point links  between the two? We would like to use local passwords for this.
ANS - We can use Ciphers TKIP as the encryption and WPA-PSK as the authentication.
    2.  We have two point to point links on each device. Would we be able to  configure one link for encryption without dropping our connection to  that device and then configure the second one?
ANS - I request you to brief me out on "we have 2 P2P on each device" does this mean we have 2 SSID configured??
    3. Is there any  sample guide for point to point encryption?

  • Cisco 1310 Access Point Rommon Mode

    Hello,
So I have a Cisco 1310 Access Point that is in Rommon mode. I have the image on the Access point but I did not use the archive download command to extract it. When I use the
    tar -xtract flash://c1310-k9w7-tar[1].124-25d.JA2.tar flash:
command It gets close to the end but doesnt finish saying there isnt enough space. When I try to delete the file using delete flash://
c1310-k9w7-tar[1].124-25d.JA2 it wont allow me saying I do not have permission. I tried the rmdir command as well but had no luck. It wont allow me to use the tags /f /r for forceful and recursive, it doesnt recognize them. Anyone know how to delete a directory in rommon mode on an the 1310 access point?
    Thanks

The delete /recursive /force flash:/ is what I use.  You might try to delete these files also:
    ap:delete flash:private-configap:delete flash:private-multiple-fs

    Hi,
Following are the answers for your questions.
How often does this happen ?
This is happnenig two or three times in a day and mostly at eavening when the data traffic is high.
What is the distance between the bridges and RSSI ?
Distance is near to 600 mtr and RSSI is continously keep on changing between -51 dBM to -75dBM
Did this ever work without this issue or is this a new install ?
This installed one year before as a back up to my fiber link. This problem started recently only.
    Thanks,

  • Cisco 1310

    Greetings...
I am trying to setup two Cisco 1310 bridges (AIR-BR1310G-A-K9-R) for connectivity between two buildings.  No external antennas have been setup yet and I am just setting the basic configuration.
One is running c1310-k9w7-mx.123-8.JEA3, the other c1310-k9w7-mx.123-7.JA1…
I have one setup as a root-bridge, the other as a non-root bridge.
However, even after disabling authentication and encryption, both units are still not talking to each other.  Arghhh....
Maybe a second set of eyes can see an issue?  Thanks in advance.

    Joe:
The no response in the logs mean that the non-root bridge did not reply to the root at all.
Try to remove "distance 1" command as well. this 1 means 1 Km. it should not have big effect anyway but remove it if you are not using the bridges with 1+ Km distance.
try to use Dot11radio1 (802.11a) to test bridging if it works or not.
Also, you can try exchange the roles (root, non root) between two devices and check further.
successful assocaition should be seen by the command:
    show dot11 associations.
I hope that after you get both bridges on same version they will sucessfully assocaited.
    Good luck.

  • Cisco 1310 used as Bridge: Option for integration to WLC or WCS

What is the best management option for the Cisco 1310 being used as an Autonomous Bridge (pairs: Root and Non-Root). We want to manage and have some reporting back into the WCS.

    WCS 6.0 configuration guide says that only AP1130, 1200, 1240, 1310
    Bridge are supported.
The autonomous to lightweight migration support feature provides a
    common application (WCS) from
which you can perform basic monitoring of autonomous access points along
    with current lightweight
access points. The following autonomous access points are supported:
    * Cisco Aironet 1130 Access Point
    * Cisco Aironet 1200 Access Point
    * Cisco Aironet 1240 Access Point
    * Cisco Aironet 1310 Bridge

  • Cisco 1310 problem

First, i want to apologize for my English.
I have a wireless network, which connects areas isolated by the sea.
One of the repeaters have connection problems.
There is a picture that illustrates my problem.
The repeater in red, was installed recently. Because of the distances are added to each output TNC an amplifier of 1 watt.
The problem arises when the bridge that connects to the repeater, it begins to traffic on the network.
The repeater is disconnected, leaving the bridge and repeater offline.
We believe that the problem is caused by the fact that this link is at 12 meters above sea level. And we think that we could solve that problem by adding two amplifiers to the Master AP.
    Any suggestion.

You did not include the config files for the 1310's, did you set the distsnce prameter for the radio on the root bridge. for longer distances the AP needs to adjust the time out values.

  • Cisco ACS Group Settings per NDG

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to make certain settings that fall under a group configuration such as:
    Usage Quotas,
    Time of Day Access,
    Max Sessions
to apply differently depending on which network device group the user is coming from.
So for example if Jsmith belongs to group Staff and is coming from the VPN he will have one time of day access rules configured, where if he 802.1x's on a device in another NDG he gets another time of day access rule?
I know you can apply ACL's based on the NDG the user is coming from, but it seems like the other options I mentioned above should be able to be controlled by NDG as well.
We are running v3.3 of ACS.
    Any suggestions?

I dont think so that is possible. You have option of NAP where in you can define what database to be used for specific user. Or if users comes from wireless use AD and if users comes for VPN use RSA DB.
    Please see this link,
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_server_for_windows/4.1/user/NAPs.html

  • Cisco Unity - Greeting settings

    Hello,
I have the following situation, a manager will forward his phone to his assistent. His assistent has her phone "Forward All" to Voicemail. But when they do this they hear the standard unity greeting and not the personal greeting.
I've checked in the greetings settings and activated the internal one , but that doesn't seem to work.
The only way we can get this to work is to put the full e.164 number in the forward, it seems to trick the unity to act as a external caller.
    Kr,
    Yannick

    Hi,
the "Forwarded Route" was no good, that seems to edit the option for everyone
    So we have 2 phones:
    Phone 1: Manager number 1234
    Phone 2: Assistent number 1235
Phone 1 is forwarded to Phone 2 in a "Call Forward All" to "1235, at this time Phone 2 has a call forward all to the voicemail checkbox
From the moment someone calls Phone 1 he is directly transferred towards Phone 2, Phone 2 is also forwarded to voicemail, so the original caller will reach the voicemail of Phone 2, but the original caller doesn't hear the personal greeting, he hears the standard cisco unity message of: "Hello , Welcome to cisco unity, from a touch dialpad ......, and we want it to just play the self recorded greeting of the user of Phone 2

Can anyone advise the best settings for roaming on the Lumia 800, I need to keep the emails coming in and incoming phone calls only, so cannot put it into flight mode, but want to stop anything else from updating/checking and using my roaming data allowance? For example, do I need to shut down apps that are running, or shut off bluetooth and locations? Just trying to avoid massive data costs like you hear some iphone users are getting becuae their phones are updating and checking stuff all the time. Thanks for any advice.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Go to email+accounts and check services like Google and Live - in there select only mail to be synced.
Bad thing is that if you have Facebook account there's no way to disable it. Either delete it (if you have no linked contacts, since they will be lost) or make sure to not touch What's new in People or Me tiles.

  • Can't change roaming settings

I live on the Canada border and am constantly roaming with my Samsung gs4, I just got the phone Friday and cannot get it to stop roaming, I went to the local Verizon and she did something and told me it would work but it didn't.

You can turn off data roaming by going here: Settings > More > More Networks >Mobile Networks > Global data Roaming Access > Check Deny data roaming access.
I don't think there is any settings to turn off call roaming, unless you put the phone in airplane mode

  • Help! Cisco WAP321 Roaming problem

I've setup 3 Cisco WAP321's with Single Point Setup turned on.  SPS works great - everything propagates and I can see that all 3 WAPs have the same configuration.
However, I have a problem.  With my laptop, I connect to the wireless network downstairs on WAP1. Then I walk to a remote part of the building where the only WAP within range is WAP3.  My laptop disconnects from the network.  When I look at the list of networks that my laptop can see, it can see my SSID with 4 bars - this is WAP3 (it's pretty far from the rest of the network, and it's separated from the other WAPs by a cinderblock wall).  When I try to connect, my laptop says "cannot connect to (SSID)".
I've tried this with my Windows laptop and my iPad.
When I go back downstairs (I left my laptop up near WAP3 - definitely not in range of WAP1) and login to one of the WAPs and go to Single Point Setup > Sessions, it tells me that the MAC address of my laptop is connected to WAP1.
It seems that the WAPs are not passing my session from WAP to WAP.  I cannot turn on WDS because it says that WDS doesn't work when clustering is turned on.
Am I totally wrong about the way this stuff is supposed to work?  Shouldn't I be able to roam around the building and still be connected?
    Any ideas?

  • Cisco Wireless Roaming - Redundancy

    Hi,
I'm looking for 2 types of solution:
    1. Wireless Roaming without a controller
    2. Access Point redundancy - Two Access Point with the same coverage but in a Active/Standby scheme. Is this posible?
    Thanks.
    Ivan

Roaming is going to work so long as your configuration matches on the AP. i.e the PSK and SSID are the same.
If you are doing 802.1X then you would want to configure one of the AP as a WDS master so that you aren't having to authenticate all the way back to AAA on a roam.
    WDS Configuration:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/aironet-1100-series/44720-WDS.html
You can also configure Hot Standby on an AP: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/access/wireless/software/guide/RolesHotStandby.html#wp1037487
