Cisco 7609-S/ME3600X port shaping

Hello everyone
I am using the folloing configuration on Cisco ME36000X for port shaping
policy-map TEST_OUT_10MB
class class-default
shape average 10000000
policy-map TEST_IN_10MB
class class-default
police 10000000
interface GigabitEthernet0/2
switchport trunk allowed vlan none
switchport mode trunk
load-interval 30
service instance 101 ethernet
encapsulation untagged
service-policy input TEST_IN_10MB
service-policy output TEST_OUT_10MB
bridge-domain 101
interface Vlan101
bandwidth 10000
ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 255.255.255.252
I have applyed also the same port shaping on an Cisco 7609-S with an 7600-ES+20G3CXL
policy-map TEST_10MB
class class-default
  police 10000000
   shape average 10000000
interface GigabitEthernet1/11
bandwidth 10000
ip address  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 255.255.255.252
load-interval 30
service-policy input TEST_10MB
service-policy output TEST_10MB
When i am downloading a file and capturing the traffic with wireshark there is significant difference on Cisco 7609-S graph with that one on Cisco ME3600X. Both have the same internet connection.
Is there any way to fine tune Cisco ME3600X to have the same behavior like Cisco 7609-S?
Regards
Antonis.

I have not that graph so I am just guessing that you are noticing the difference between policing and shaping. It seems to me you are applying these techniques on each platform on a different way. Try to shape/police in the same order or only to shape.
Hope to help

  • Cisco 7609 router received higher traffic than upstream provider router is sending

    Hi all,
I have a Cisco 7609 router that connects to our upstream provider router using 3rd party DWDM Fiber backhaul provider.
The upstream provider router is a Juniper router that had capped our port speed to 1.1Gbps, the backhaul provider didn't capped our port speed and the maximum speed is 2Gbps since it's a 2x1Gbps port channel interface.
I have noticed that our 7609 router able to receive traffic that exceeds 1.1Gbps, and the highest traffic able to received is 1.3Gbps and more.
I have crossed checked the MRTG graph provided by our upstream provider as well as our PRTG graph and indeed we are receiving higher bandwidth than our upstream provider is sending.
I'd like to know if anyone know how it is possible to receive traffic that is higher than what the neighbor router is sending?

    Hi at all,
We found a solution for this Problem !!
We always and always got this error:
%PQUICC-1-LOSTCARR: Unit 0, lost carrier. Transceiver problem?
The problem was the cable! The following pin-out is required:
                                            1 ----- 1
                                            2 ----- 2
                                            3 ----- 6
                                            4 ----- 5
                                            5 ----- 4
                                            6 ----- 3
                                            7 ----- 7
                                            8 ----- 8
We used this and the fault has disappeared!!
The only problem that still exists:
After the first connection the router must be rebooted because otherwise no more additional session is established.
    Thanks for all answers.

  • Ethernet cfm: question on RDI allarm cisco 7609

    Hi all,
I have ethernet cfm configured on two Cisco 7609s and two UP MEPs configured under xconnect PW MPLS on the same domain, level and service MA so they became CFM peers.
I notice that after removing and re-configuring olny one UP MEP under xconnect PW, the Cisco 7609 send a SYSLOG message indicating a RDI defect alarm and the show ethernet cfm errors showed RDI defect too.
Aftert 18 seconds this alarm is cleared and the show ethernet cfm errors is empty.
I don't undestand this behaviour..why the Cisco send the RDI alarm in this situation?

Have you opened a TAC case for it ?
    Can you share output of:

  • Best way to connect 2 Cisco 3750 PoE 24-port Switches

Hello. I have 2 Cisco 3750 PoE 24-port switches in a small office environment. Right now I have a trunk configured off my ASA 5505 to switch 1, and then just an access port configured on a port (switch 1) and an access port configured on a port (switch 2) to connect them together. These switches also have 2 GB SFP ports but they are not being used in this configuration.
I was curious to know if anyone had any better recommend configurations for connecting these 2 switches together? I'm not sure if this particular model can be stacked?

What are the exact model numbers (should be written on a sticker)?
You will know if they can be stacked as you will see the 2x stack ports on the back of each switch :)
If they can then that is probably the way to go unless you want to keep them as separate switches for some reason.
If you want them separate, I would connect them via a Trunk link at least so you can have the same Vlans on both.
    Thanks

  • No cisco phone with voice port?

    Hi
could any one advice me about "switchport voice vlan"?
    I have a configuration like:
    interface GigabitEthernet 1/-/1
    description test phone
    switch port access vlan 100
    switchport mode access
    switchport voice vlan 200
when I plug a no-cisco phone into this port, the phone try to get dhcp from vlan100, not vlan 200.
do I have any chance to force it go to vlan 200? o
    Any comments will be appreciate
    Thanks in advance
    julxu

    Hi
Most IP phones have some mechanism for setting the VLAN - Cisco phones use CDP, but other phones do not. Check with the manufacturer, or post up the type of phone you have.
For example, some phones require you to set custom DHCP options to set the VLAN.

  • ME-3400, drop with port shaping

    Hello.
We have a ME-3400 with IOS Metro IP.
The giga0/1 and gi0/3 ports are configured all the same with qos policing (input policy-map) and port shaping+Class Based Priority queueing (output policy-map).
We have no drop on gi0/1 output.
On gi0/3 output the drop is about 1-2% although the traffic (for example 10Mbps) is much less than the port shaped bandwidth (for example 200Mbps).
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you.

    Hello, sure we can.
    1. Check the output policy map using "show policy-map interface gi 0/3 output" command. This should say exactly where packets are dropped.
    2. Check the parameters. In the output the first line should say the following:
    Service-policy output: XYZ
    Class-map: class-default (match-any)
    8645541 packets
    Match: any
    Traffic Shaping
    Average Rate Traffic Shaping
    CIR 11111120 (bps)
    Output Queue:
    Max queue-limit default threshold: 48
    Tail Packets Drop: 0
    Service-policy : ABC
    Class-map: core-queue1 (match-any)
    3321747 packets
    Match: cos 5
    Priority
    police cir 1000000 bc 31250
    conform-action transmit
    exceed-action drop
conform: 0 (packets) exceed: 0 (packets)
    Output Queue:
    Max queue-limit default threshold: 48
    Tail Packets Drop: 0
The bold values are critical - low buffers means high drop probability.
Remember - interface never sends data at any other rate than it's physical rate, meaning "LOAD" is just an average of how many bytes transferred over what time.
So if 1000 packets will arrive in one milisecond, and then you have no traffic for 10 seconds, average will be low load, but 1000 packets will not fit in 48 buffers and 952 packets will be dropped.
Increase buffers! use the following guideline: calculate how many packets can be sent in 10ms window, and increase the buffers accordingly. E.G for 100Mbps 1 Mb can be sent in 10ms, which is 1Mbps/8 = 125000 BYTES. With "packet" size of 250 (buffers are per packet but their size is limited) that's 500 buffer places, or 500 packets buffer.
    3. Always pay attention to BC and TC values
Bursts will definitely be your problem

  • Cisco 7609 - optical gigabit interface

    Hi all,
I have a strange problem with the optical gigabit interface of a Cisco
switch 7609. This is the problem:
I have two 7609 cisco switch (A and B) cross connect with a optical
    fiber.
All port of both switches are configured as followed:
    switchport
    switchport mode acces
    shutdown
    no cdp enable
    no ip address
    end
With the same optical fiber cable i have connect two ports of the switches and I brough up the interface.
I got the following result if i run 'show ip interface brief' on the switches:
    SW A - SW B
port 1 - port 1 --> link down protocol down
port 2 - port 1 --> link up protocol up
port 1 - port 2 --> link up protocol up
port 2 - port 2 --> link up protocol up
Why if i connect port 1 on both switches the link don't brought up?
Have anyone some idea for the possible cause of the problem?
    Thank you

  • Cisco 3548 xl and ports broken

Hello could you please help me.
we have several ports broken in cat 3548 xl ( fast 35,37,38,39) when we are trying to connect new workstations to them, ports do not work.

Hello all and thank you for the replies !
i can now open the referred cisco-page. I will check the page
Here are anwers to all questions. we will boot the switch as soon as possible and see what happens.
do you know a good debug command what to use to see if port is acting wrong ?
i know it is not a duplex problem, since we have had a lot of duplex problems ( and this is a different case). All the other ports seem to work fine ( except for 35,37,38, 38)
laptop had only 10/100 nic and it works fine with another 3548 ( next to the 'faulty switch).
both the printer and laptop had same kind of problem.
    Here are the tests
    1) first the switch port and printer had auto config ( auto speed/auto duplex) in ports/ nic.
    --> only 20 % of pings succeeded.
sometimes ping succeeded 10 times and then there was 30 fialed ping-packets.
    2) then printers configuration was changed to 100/FD. the link started to work ( ping succeeded 100%) the switch had still auto speed and duplex, and therefore switch had only 100/HD.
when i changed switch port to 100/full, printer lost its network connection and did not answer at all to pings.
3 ) when i changed the switch port back to auto ( autospeed/auto duplex) the printer did not start to work again.
when swicth and laptop/printer were configure to auto, switch saw the port as 100/FD, negotiation was ok. as soon as data was going to the port, connection stopped working.
here is the show int . it is down, since we cant use the port at the moment. but as you can see there are no errors
BTW the printer and laptop work fine in the same switch in port 41.
    best regards TIA ! Susanna

  • Cisco 4900M integrated X2 ports, CVR-X2-SFP10G and SFP-10G-SR

    Hi,
We are going to order two(2) cisco 4900M switches for core and twelve (12) 2960S switches for access (4 stacks with 3 switches each), connected to the core with 10G MM optical paths (up to 300M each).  In addition I have one gigabit half-card but it is not related to my questions here. Please see my attached diagram.
    So my questions are:
    1. Point 1.Can we use integrated eight X2 ports of every of the both 4900M switches as plugging into four of them four convertors CVR-X2-SFP10G and to plug on every of the convertors sfp tranceivers SFP-10G-SR - as it is described on the diagram, or I need for something more in addition to described? I found only some minimum soft releases to use as requirement to use these convertors and sfp tranceivers, but is there something additional I need?
Note:I'm asking that because Dynamic Conf Tool doesn't give me to do such configuration, actually these convertors and SFPs are missing there at all, but it sometimes happens with some products...  In documentation it is described this should work (if I didn't pass something which is my main consern and why I'm asking here).
2.Point 3.If this shouldn't work, the other alternative (not described in my diagram) is to use X2-10GB-SR modules without any SFPs - just ot use SC connectors for the optical cables instead of LC. So my question in that case is will 10G links work between X2-10GB-SR at one side and SFP-10G-SR at the other side where I have 2960S switches and this is the only option? Is is expected to have some problems in that scenario?
Note:Actually if Point 1 is workable I prefer to use it instead of Point 2 because of minor price optimization when using SFPs with convertors in comparisson to X2-10GB-SR.
    3. If the both variants are possible, which one is preffered and why, what advantages does it have (for example low latency of something else)?
    Thank You in Advance
    Asen

Just for your information, a fiber link does not care if one end of the fiber has an GBIC (SC-type connector) and the other end has a SFP (LC-type of connector); or any other transceiver footprint (X2, CFP, etc.)..  The thing that is important is that each module is the same specification, and matches the fiber type and link length of the network (10GBASE-SX in this example).
    Good luck.
