Cisco ASDM 6.1(5) Windows server 2008 r2?
Hi!
Have anyone tried to run ASDM 6.1(5) and ASDM-IDM Launcher 1.5(50) on a windows server 2008 r2?
Currently the computer is running windows XP and I want to upgrade to a server..
/Lajja
That's an old ASDM (ca. 2008) and I haven't had the opportunity to try that specific combination.
In general, modern ASDM versions (6.4 or higher) are documented in their release notes as being compatible with Windows Server 2008.
As long as your ASA is 8.0 or later, there's no reason not to load and use the latest ASDM (7.1(5) is current as of right now). That's actually recommended by Cisco.

This error means that your DC does not support the encryption method the ACS wants to use.
Usually this happens when you run 2008 Server with 2003 functionality...
You will need to run ktpass.exe according to the DC you are running:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/nac/appliance/configuration_guide/48/cas/s_adsso.html#wp1277452.
For Windows 2008 Server at 2003 Server functional level:
ktpass -princ newadsso/[adserver.][email protected] -mapuser newadsso -pass
PasswordText -out c:\newadsso.keytab -ptype KRB5_NT_PRINCIPAL

Cisco LMS 4.1 Installation on Windows Server 2008 R2, Databases not created
Hi There,
As always, I am trying to install LMS 4.1 on windows server 2008 R2 and after the installation and login to the LMS I find the following:
DCRServer is down or may not be completely up. Check if the DCRServer process is running.
And after some troubleshooting I found that the LMS is not creating the CMF database and the other databases. Attached is the installation log file, if someone could help me with it would be appreciated. Please note the following:
1. I have downloaded the installation file from Cisco website twice, so I do not think it is the file that is corrupted, also it is only evaluation license.
2. I have met all the prerequisites and requirement as in the documentation guides, but maybe there is something still wrong.
Thanks,Also Here is more info output:

Hello,
I run a small business network with five physical servers: three Dell servers running Windows Server 2008 R2, one custom build running 2008, and another custom build running 2012 with Domain Controller Role (same hardware for both custom builds).
The Dell servers are all running the Hyper-V role and each has a number of 2008 VMs. I also have a 2012 VM with the Domain Controller Role on one of the Hyper-V servers and another VM with a completely base install of 2012.
All servers are plugged into a Cisco SG300-52 switch which is uplinked to a Cisco 881 router which is connected to a cable TWC provided Ubee cable modem. I have no VLANs setup. I do have the Firewall on the router configured
to inspect most traffic.
Here is my problem: I cannot connect to most of the internet on ANY 2012 server (and all exhibit the exact same behavior), but I have NO problems connecting to the internet from 2008 servers. Here is what I already know:
1.) I can ping the outside world just fine so ICMP is passing to any external host.
2.) Two of the 2012 servers are DCs running DNS services and they can connect to the internet just fine for DNS requests because they are doing a perfectly good job of providing DNS services to my network.
3.) Here's where it gets really weird: I can browse in internet explorer to Bing.com and it works. I can also go to a couple other Microsoft websites (though they are very slow). If I click on any link in Bing, however, it doesn't
work and gives me a page not available error. If I connect to a non-MS website like Google or my company website, I get page not available.
4.) I have tried to telnet to port 80 at Bing and it works. I have tried to telnet to port 80 at google.com and it won't connect. The 2008 servers have no issue telneting to either bing or google on port 80 and none of my client
PCs on the network do either.
5.) Windows Update will not connect and neither will any other update service such as AVG (I have AVG Antivirus installed WITHOUT firewall on two of the three servers. The base 2012 VM has no software installed and no roles...I built it
just to see if it could connect after a fresh install and it still cannot.)
6.) The network connection does not indicate limited connectivity (probably because ICMP appears to be passing successfully)
7.) If I connect the server directly to the modem it has full internet access.
8.) All internal LAN connectivity is perfectly fine and runs at full speed.
9.) I have scoured the internet trying to find other examples of this particular kind of connectivity issue on 2012 and I have found two TechNet articles that are similar, but they both had the same resolution: changing the router
worked, but no one knows why. (I would have included the links, but apparently I cannot do that yet)
My question is this: What is different about Windows Server 2012 networking that would render it unable to communicate through a router that Windows Server 2008 has no problems with? I ask because, unlike in these two articles where they were
running personal networking equipment they could easily upgrade, I'm running a Cisco 881 with what should be virtually limitless configuration options and I have no desire to replace it. I have to assume the issue is somehow related to the firewall configuration,
which I could fix easily, but I don't know what to change. If anyone knows what changed in 2012 and why I would be able to browse to bing and other MS sites but no where else, please pass them along. Thanks. This is the IP Config for the 2012 DC:

the internet connectivity issue that this whole post was about in the first place.
NOTE2: When I logged on to COMPANYDC02 this morning, it told me that I had new Windows Updates that needed to be downloaded. Confused, I checked the most recent time WU had checked for updates at it had successfully checked for updates last night
at 10pm. Of course, it failed when trying to download them, but it appears that once in a while, a connection gets through successfully... -
Ethernet controller driver not installing after Windows Server 2008 installation on Cisco UCS blade
I am using MDT 2010 to deploy Windows Server 2008 to a Cisco UCS B200 blade. The OS and hotfixes install with no problem. The system reboots and attempts to connect to the deployment share to continue with the task sequence and I receive an error stating
"A connection to the deployment share could not be made. The following networking device did not have a driver installed. PCI\VEN_1137&DEV_0043&SUBSYS_00481137&REV_A2"
The driver in question is the driver for the Ethernet controller for the UCS blade. More specifically, it is the network driver for the Palo card in the UCS Chassis. When I Ignore or Abort the install, I am able to manually install the driver and restart the
task sequence. The build then completes successfully with no further issue. I just cannot seem to automate the driver install. Has anyone dealt with this type of issue?Vik and stealthfield - thank you for your responses.
I was preparing a script to manually move the driver into the c:\windows\inf location when I had to stop to create a new task sequence for a different build. It was while building this task sequence that I found the soulution to the problem.
In the Post Install -> Inject Drivers step of the Task Sequence, I noticed that it was executing a command of type "Inject Drivers" with a selection profile of "All Drivers" and "Install only matching drivers
from the selection profile" selected.
I changed this to run a command of type "Run Command Line" and specified that it execute "%Scriptroot%\ZTIdrivers.wsf". I noticed that this was selected in one of my other builds that was working properly, so I thought I'd
give it a try. - IT WORKED.
So to sum up, the solution was to change the type of command being executed in the "Post Install -> Inject Drivers" step of the task sequence. After this change, the machine came up and continued the task sequence with no further issues.
Thanks again for the responses - They were helpful and I do appreciate it. -
Cisco NAC 4.8.3 supports Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard?
I´m looking at this document: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/nac/appliance/configuration_guide/48/cas/s_adsso.html#wp1301231 and I´m not clear if Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1 is supported. The documentation refers to Windows 2008 Server SP2 and Windows 2008 Server R2, but I see no specific mention to Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1.
Hi,
Do you remember making any changes to the computer prior to this issue? Please unplug
all external devices connected to the system and try booting in Normal mode.

Cisco Wireless AP with windows server 2008 r2
I am using Cisco Aironet 2600 ap's (cisco ios 15.2) with Microsoft windows server 2008 r2 NPS. The authentication works perfectly for the client (android phone) and I am able to access the network (ie. I can open the switch admin page or the AP
access page from the client.) however I am unable to connect to the internet from the client connected through the AP. The internet is working fine on the server and all other wired clients. Not sure if there is a setting or I need to put a policy
into the windows firewall to allow access or I should set up a VPN connection through the AP to allow internet only access on the network so to not expose my network to the internet.
ThanksIf you are not able to access internet, you might need to check your routes and if there is any router or firewall that is dropping the traffic.

Hello CSM Gurus,
Would there be any performance issues in CSM client software design if multiple instances of CSM client by multiple users ran concurrently on a Windows Server 2008 R2(64 bits) while CSM users accessing the server via Remote Desktop Services ?
In my environment, we have a CSM server at our major data center while security administrators from all over the world need to use this CSM server.
In order to overcome the latency of the CSM client due to the WAN network, the plan is to use a Windows Server 2008 R2(64bits) as a terminal server and all security administrators would need to access this terminal server via RDP and would launch CSM client on their desktop. The terminal server locates on the same LAN as the CSM server itself in order to minimize network latency in communications between the CSM clients running on the terminal server and the CSM server. there would be multiple instances of CSM clients running concurrently on the Windows Server 2008 R2, the terminal server.Hi;

ACS any Version with Domain Controller on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit
Hi All
Is there currently any ACS version working with Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controllers?
Our server stuff has recently upgraded the Domain Controllers to 2008r2 and turned off the 2003 servers. This didn't make our ACS 4.1.4 really happy.
I've read now serveral posts regarding issues with ACS and Server 2008r2 and hope to find a solution (besides switching to LDAP, yukk).
Thanks

Advice needed on installing CA on Windows Server 2008 for CUPS Calendar Integration
Hi,
I am trying to configure CUPS 8.0 to connect to Exchange 2008 to retrieve calendar information as detailed in the integration note at the link below:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cups/8_0/english/integration_notes/ExchInt.html
I have successfully completed everything up to the section Installing the CA on Windows Server 2008 but am now running into problems.
When I run the Role Services Wizard I get options to install Certificate Authority and Certificate Authority Web Enrollment but not Online Responder.
Can anyone advise why this would be the case?
It may or may not be relevant but the server that the customer has told me to install the CA on is a domain controller - could this be the issue?A bit more information - below is some of the output generated by the Windows systeminfo cli command.

Could the problem be that I need a server running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise? -
Macs will not show up on DNS Windows Server 2008 R2
In our office, we have a Windows Server Infrastructure with several Macs (Imacs, mac pros, macbook airs etc).
Active Directory and DNS is running off a Windows Server 2008 R2 Server, with DHCP on a Cisco Router.
DHCP is configured to direct all DNS entries to the Windows DNS Server.
The problem that I'm having is that, while all windows machines show up on the Windows DNS Server, None of the Macs are registered. Macs are able to utilize the DNS Server correctly, but will not register on the DNS Listings.
Because I cannot access or ping Macs via their hostname, I cannot tell our third party backup software to point to a particular machine. Our workstations are all DHCP enabled, and since assigning a static ip to all the Macs here is not an option, I need to get this working, so that I can get our macs backing up.
I've followed a few similar articles, but they appear to be for older 2003 servers, which the 2008 R2 servers do not have those options. I do not want to join the Macs onto the windows domain, I merely want to get them registered on our DNS server.
The mac operating systems vary between Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion

Thanks,
RboelensI'm pretty sure that the DNS registration stuff is part of the Active Directory plug-in on OS X. I'd recommend you give it a try.
GPOs are not enforced on the Macs if they're bound to Active Directory, _unless_ you've extended the Active Directory schema (which is a lot of work). The main benefits to joining Macs to AD ar:
* Centralized password management and policies (as you've defined in AD).
* Single sign-on to various kerberized resources (i.e. Windows share points and internal web pages if you're using IIS and you use Kerberos to secure them, rather than NTLM).
Here's an Apple white paper which may help. I would recommend you read this carefully and then decide whether or not you want to bind the Macs to AD. I'd also recommend you test with a bound Mac to see if resolves this "host name in DNS" issue... I suspect it will.

Lms 3.2 and window server 2008 r2 standard
we have bought lms 3.2 and window server 2008 r2 standard. Now we know, it cant be used togetther
Could we upgrade to lms 4.0.1 ? If so, how can we do ?
thank you.
Duyen.Correct, LMS 3.2 is not supported on Windows 2008 R2. You can upgrade to LMS 4.0 (which is supported on R2), but that is not a free upgrade from LMS 3.x. You can, however, download a free 90-day eval of LMS 4.0 from http://www.cisco.com/go/nmsevals .
It sounds like you need to contact your reseller or account manager to see what they can do. If you just purchased LMS 3.2, you may be able to get a free or discounted upgrade to 4.0. -

Running DNS without os x server
Understanding that the Apple GUI is very usefull, I am looking to create a lean, fast caching DNS server. This server would be used to resolve DNS only, no hosting of domains, just fast resolution. I have been able to scrape together on the internet
