Cisco Expressway Core & Edge Cluster, or Disaster Recovery Setup

Hi All,
Dear experts,
I have two sites HQ & Branch.below are my questions for Expressway Core & Edge Cluster
1. Can i create one cluster for 6 sever for  Expressway Core and distribute 3 server in HQ &  3 server in Branch for HA
2. Can i create one cluster for 6 sever for  Expressway Edge and distribute 3 server in HQ & 3 server in Branch for HA
3. How would be the DNS SRV records and call flow work if the main site  Expressway Edge goes down in HQ. How the Branch Side Expressway Edge becomes active for B2B calls.
4. What is the best design to have disaster recovery for Expressway core and Expressway Edge between Sites(HQ & Branch)
Regards,
Irf

Regarding 1 and 2, as long as the round trip delay is no more than 30ms maximum, you should be fine.  I presume the HQ Branch offices for the Expressway-Core have a shared internal network, since the Core goes inside the corporate network, while the Edge goes in the DMZ or outside the network for public access.
For 3, as long as you have your SRV records setup correct, you can set the priority of which office gets used first, and then second, in case of a failure.
I don't have an answer for 4 unfortunately.

  • Need help for Disaster Recovery setup and configuration

    Hi Gurus.
We are planning to have disaster recovery test plan. Normally we setup our network at another site and then restore data there and then do configuration and setup to run SAP system to new network.
But this is little more time consuming. We are planning to do something which will might save our time.
We want to create one Application instance on Central instance on current production server. This instance will be "deactivated" and will not run on production server.
When we will do the disaster recovery, we will restore CI filesystem to Disaster recovery network. That time this new application instance  will aslo get copied. Once this is done, we just need to go to this instance and start SAP System. This way we will save our time of configuring the new instance and then starting it.
    e.g
    Production host -> prdhost1
    Central Instance -> /usr/sap/P01/DVEBMGS00
and it's subdirectory: data, work, log, sec
create new application instance -> /usr/sap/P01/D03
and it's subdirectory: data, work, log, sec
    create new instance profile -> P01_D03_prdhost1, START_D03_prdhost1
this configuration will be created but SAP instance will not be started. It will be copied to Disaster Recovery new site and in that new network , there we can start this new application instance.
Please let me know if we can do that ? if yes, are we going to face any issue in production?
Other than mentioned above, what FileSystem we need to take care for creating new instance?
Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Best Regards,
    Basis CK

    Hi!
Sorry but your scenario is a little bit confusing.
Let me guess if I understood, you want to configure a "virtual" instance to be able to use it in case of DR.
I don't advise you to do things that way. Why not use virtual hosts and virtual instances like we do when implementing instances within a cluster or metrocluster.
You must have the license from DR server installed. I you use virtual hosts all DR issues like printers, logon groups, RFC groups, etc... will be solved.
If you use virtual hosts and virtual instances all you need to do is replicate the environment into DR site, restore the system and start production.
Of course... you are using UNIX and within UNIX world all these things are much easier.
Bear in mind that if you have JAVA instances then I think this is the only recommended procedure.

  • OIM 11gR2- Disaster Recovery Setup

    Hi,
Does anyone has suggestions/already in place architecture for Deploying OIM11gR2 setup in Disaster Recovery Mode.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Regards

What are the requirements/expectations out of DR? Do you need to replicate the same infra in terms of NFR's e.g. DR site has same performance and user capacity like production then you need to replicate the production infrastructure/architecture in DR data center. However DR strategy completely depends on Client strategy. In Ideal scenerio DR site is cold (i.e. only active in case of production failure) and has same capacity like production. But depending on the client you may want to propose the scale down version of production on DR site and you can also check if you can keep the DR site active also to increase the solution performance. All this need to think through in terms of criticality of the IAM functionality, cost of infrastructure, cost of licence and DR policy for the Client. Now a days every client prefer RAC database but few clients go with Non RAC databases also with storage/disk backup in DR site on every interval.

  • OIM Disaster Recovery Setup

We are in the processing of completing setup of our production environment with OIM 9.1.0.2. Our setup is running on WAS 6.1 in a two node cluster. We run to an Oracle database. For DR we were planning to take a backup of the production database and restore it on the DR database. We would install OIM in WAS on a DR server as well, pointing to the newly restored database.
Does anyone have any pointers on things to watch out for or configuration changes that may need to be done to allow this to work?
    Thanks for any assistance,

  • Disaster Recovery setup for SAP Portal

    Hello,
I am trying to setup a DR site for our portal system. We are using EMC Recover Point to do the SAN replication between Production and DR site. We are using MSCS cluster with one CI and DI in Production. For DR, we are planning to go with a distributed installation with one portal and database node.
Can I create the DR system using System copy assuming that the SID is going to be the same, and the host names/IP addresses are different. How can we make sure that the custom applications deployment in production is in sync with the DR site? I don't think replicating the database preserves everything as the Java system persists data in both the database and the file system, for example the Software Delivery Manager (SDM) is persisted in the file system.
So, how can I make sure that the file system is also gets replicated between production and DR site? Should I keep the DR system shutdown and bring it up for weekly sync up or it can run parallel with the production system?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Regarding the system copy, last time I did one myself (its a while ago so I'm not sure if it is still a limitation) it was not possible to have the Target SID the same as the Destination SID.
If this is not a limitiation anymore then yes you can use the system copy procedure as it also takes the SDM with it.
    Cheers,

  • T4-1 rack mount server as a remote server for disaster recovery setup.

    Hi,
I would like to ask some basic questions, as Solaris is not my area.
    1)
T4-1 server is a rack mount server.  Now, we would like to use it for DR purpose.  Can we keep this rack mount server on remote location without conversion kit (to use it as a tower server).
    2)
As I am new to this, would like to ask a basic question. This T4-1 server has 4 * 300GB hdd.   To expand storage capacity, we would like to add hard disks to this server.  Do we have to add 300gb hard disks only ? or we can add 2 new 600 GB hard disks.
    Thanks

    1) Yes, it does not need to be racked to run.  Putting it on a wire rack should work fine. Just verify the power and cooling requirements.
    2) You can add new internal disks, the system holds up to 8 internal 2.5" disks. Using a zpool, I would consider adding 4 more 600G disks for a RAIDZ pool, though you can add 2 600G disks and mirror them.

  • Disaster Recovery Solution

I have 2 copes of the same database on 2 different server at two different locations. I have to synchronize the data 100% between the two databases... Please help me to select an appropriate solution to accomplish this.
The 2 databases should be always online
What I can think of is
    - Merge Replication.
    - Transactional  Replication with Updatable subscription..
If you can point some other solutions that would be really great... how about Mirroring.. If I use this I may need a 2 way mirroring... is this possible.

    Hi Sudhakar,
According to your description, there are lots of built-in ways in SQL Server
to make two servers synchronize. Some points you should take into account, for example, how much bandwidth and latency between two server, and the size of two database, how often and how much do data change and so on. you can choose the method
most suited for your needs. Merge replication allows various sites to work autonomously and later merge updates into a single. As other post, you can choose replication as a disaster recovery solution. In database mirroring, secondary database
is in an offline mode while mirroring is in place. This can ensure integrity in the secondary database in the event of a failover being required.

  • Is WebEx Enabled TelePresence supported with Expressway Core and Edge?

Is WebEx Enabled TelePresence supported with the Expressway Core and Edge instead of using a VCS Control and Expressway? This is one thing I'm not sure of, as the scheduled conferences will have to register to the Expressway Core and wasn't sure if this was possible.

    Hi,
It is supported, see the following release notes here:

  • Disaster Recovery in Windows 2003/Cluster, SQL 2000 and R3

    Hi,
Can someone share experience/knowledge of disaster recovery scenarios in MSCS/SQL Server/SAP. One of our customer has R3/SQL Server2000/Win 2003 (Cluster).
We would like to evaluate best possible options for the Disaster Recovery which are supported by SAP.
    We have thought about
    1. Log shipping
    2. Standby Database
    3. Restore backup on new cluster
    4. Homogeneous System copy.
We do not want to go for first two and would like to explore on 3rd and 4th option.
Any links to documents/blogs will be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Manoj

    > I am confused. Option 3 will be restoring backup
Yes - but what will you restore? Everything? If you're running on a cluster it's unlikely that both nodes will fail at the same time so there is still one node that can and will run the software, no?
    > and 4 will be sapinst. Isn't it? Are both options supported by SAP?
    Yes.
    > Is there a SAP standard documentation for building cluster from scratch and build SAP system from backup or sapinst for DR?
The standard installation documentation cover a cluster installation.
    > I am sure there will be installation document if it is a fresh installation. But not sure if there is one for DR.
If you have a cluster then you have a high availability already. If a node fails, you will "just" reinstall that node and put it back into the cluster.
What kind of DR scenario are you thinking about?

  • Cisco BE6k and VCS Core/edge

    Dear all,
There is a new Be6k High density in the testing environment.
However, we don't have clear picture on the deploying VCS Core/edge with the CUCM in the BE6k.
Do we install the VCS core and edge in the same BE6k server? After that, the VCS edge assign with a DMZ ip address?Or install other VCS edge from the appliance?
How is configuration between CUCM and VCS? Since I can't any related document from the Cisco.com.
    Best Regards,
    Ben Lai

1 Either works, you just need to make sure to properly design and configure the underlying network and the ports to which each VM will connect
2 There´s PLENTY of information on that

  • Cisco Expressway

    Hi all,
When we need to use cisco expressway ? My customer will use cisco sx10, sx80, and immersive. Connection between all telepresence endpoint is via WAN (MPLS). Do i need to deploy cisco expressway-c or expressway-e ?

The Expressway series doesn't have traversal licenses, instead it's refereed to as Rich Media Session licenses.  If you have have an H323 and SIP endpoint, the interworked call will consume a single RMS license on each Expressway Core and Edge server, so a total of two licenses will be needed for the call.  Below is taken from the Expressway data sheet and outlines what a RMS licenses is used for:
Each concurrent call session terminating on a system not using Cisco Unified Communications Manager or Cisco HCS (for example, B2B calls, Cisco Jabber Guest and Cisco Collaboration Meeting Rooms) requires a Cisco Expressway Rich Media Session license. Also, each concurrent call requiring interworking also requires a Cisco Expressway Rich Media Session license. Examples of such calls include H.323-to-SIP interworked calls and H.264 SVC-to-H.264 AVC calls.
However, as the Expressway series is meant to be used with CUCM, and it's a SIP only solution, where is this H323 endpoint residing or calling from?

  • Advice on best way to setup Disaster Recovery for SOA Suite 10.1.3.4

    Hi Everyone,
I need some advice on the best way to setup Disaster Recovery for a SOA Suite 10.1.3.4 install deploying JSF/ADF OC4J applications.
The way we are trying to do it at the moment is manually copy the "applications" and "applications-deployments" folders for the OC4J application on the production server, then compress and ship the files across to the DR application server nightly. (We don't require high availability).
In the event of a disaster we then extract the files and copy to the OC4J instance (pre-created and configured) on the DR server. Unfortunately to date we haven't been able to reliably setup a DR application (seem to mostly get 404 errors etc), even though the OC4J application has its connection pool resolved to the DR database and is showing as "up" in the ASConsole.
My question is, is there a more "native" way to do what we are trying to do. We do not have Enterprise version of SOA Suite or 11g database so any advanced recovery features are not an option. The setup is also stand alone, i.e. we are not using clustering or RAC etc.
Any ideas would be really helpful.
    Thanks,
    Leigh.
PS we are also running the production apps server with Oracle Application server 10g 10.1.2.3.0 as the HTTP apache server (with Forms, Reports and Discoverer deployed) and the SOA Suite 10.1.3 applications use the 10.1.2 HTTP server via the HTTP to AJP bridge. So the 10.1.3 OC4J instance is configured to use AJP on port range 12501 - 12600.

For enterprise solutions, AS Guard would work.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25221_04/core.1013/b15977/disasrecov.htm#sthref303
However, since advanced recovery options are not available (as you said), then what you are doing should not be too bad.

  • Not able to create disaster recovery VMM -- ovm pool / repository ownership issue

I have installed VMM and VMS and create a server pool with 3.0.2 version.
To test disaster recovery, I rebuild the VMM with the old UUID by
    runInstaller.sh --uuid 0004fb00000100002ae.....

The new VMM (same IP as old one) can recognize the VMS but can not complete the clone process. Couple hours later, all VMSs reboot and the event showed: server cluster is down. After that, I can clone the VM from template as before. But I when I use "Edit the server pool" to assign Master Server, it show:
OVMRU_000039E Cannot perform operations. Server pool: VMSP1, is owned by another manager.
How to query the owner of Server pool and how to fix?
