Cisco wireless and Apple Mac woes

Hello all,
I've been working with Cisco wireless and WLC's for a couple of years now but the recent onslaught of Apple Mac's is giving me heart burn.  I've seen this at numerous sites now and need to throw it to eht community for guidance.
Basically we have had a number of instances where the Macs just fall off the wifi.  Sometimes it's when they wake from sleep and other times when roaming between AP's (1131s with same SSID's).  Our standard install is WPA2 and per ap local authentication.  PC's work fine and never an issue.
We have completed a survey with a spectrum analyser and no RF interefence is present nor errors on the radio interface.
Questions:
- Is there a preferred Cisco config/setup for Mac's to work reliably?  I've heard loads of rumors but nothing concrete and nor can I find anything specific.
- Should I be setting up WDS in case there is an authenticating issue.
- For those who are Mac gurus and happen to be reading. What Mac options we should look at?
This has all come to a head because the clients IT company who recommended the Macs (different from us doing the network infrastructure) are insisting that the problem is Cisco incompatibility and that we should rip out the Cisco kit and install airports (what tha!!!).
Thanks in advance for any pointers.
For those who like a config here it is .... Vanilla stuff really

I checked the lierature for system requirements and it only lists Win98 or newer, no mention of Mac. Maybe a CL person would comment on possible future plans. Typically they won't comment on unannounced products though.

  • Make network to connect wireless and ethernet macs

i have a macbook that connects via Airport, and a Mac Pro that connects via ethernet.
In the past - I've had no problems connecting/sharing between 2 macs, but both were sharing one airport.
Since plugging in the MacPro, I'm no longer able to share between the airport connected macbook and ethernet connected MacPro.
Seems like it should be simple and I'm feeling silly.
    help?

    wireless mac -
    ip - 10.0.1.2
    subnet - 255.255.255.0
    router - 10.0.1.1
    macpro ethernet -
    ip - 192.168.15.2
    subnet - 255.255.255.0
    router - 192.168.15.1
I had tried doing a manual setting on the ethernet connected mac (which is plugged into the back of the airport, btw) - changed all settings to match the wireless mac, but still am not able to print wireless to the ethernet mac. when I look under "sharing" on the ethernet mac, the ip still shows up as 192.168.15.1, even after manual config....
    thanks in advance

  • Final cut pro 4 and Apple Mac Pro

    Hi !
I intend to buy a new Apple Mac Pro 2.66GHz computer.
Will I be able to work with Final Cut Pro 4 ? and After Effects 6.5 ?
    Can someone please help ?

FCP 4, not really. You need FCP 5.1.
AE 6.5 - perhaps. It will run under Rosetta and there has to be a whole bunch of info on tweaking the settings to get it to run reasonably.
fwiw - Adobe just announced the CS3 suite which will include a UB version of AE. You will likely want to go for that.
    good luck.

  • Iphone 4S and Apple Mac

I have just purchased an Iphone 4S. When I plug into my Apple Mac the phone is not recognised on Itunes. All I get is an error message saying that the Iphone needs to have Itunes Software version 10.3 or higher. It doesn't recognise the phone to check the software on the Mac.
If I plug it into my windows laptop then it says that the software is version 6 and that this is up to date.
Any ideas how I get the phone software to work on the Apple Mac ?

iTunes 10.6.1 will not sync to an iPhone running iOS 6, as all new iPhones now do. Upgrade to iTunes 10.7 or iTunes 11 and see if that corrects the problem.
    Regards.

  • Cisco Valet and Apple TV2 problem.

I just installed a new Cisco Valet router, and though my lap and desktops work fine, I'm unable to get past the "setting time and date" notification when trying to wirelessly connect my Appletv. I tried rebooting the module, but even after waiting considerable time, I simply end up with the screensaver. Any suggestions would be appreciated from this new member

What is the answer to that problem? I have a cisco router and have the same issue. Thanks

  • Bluetooth, N80 and Apple Mac's...

I am currently unable to use the bluetooth function in boths directions between my phone and my Mac, not for lack of trying....
I undersdtand that there is a new firmware version that addresses this but I have no idea how to access this.
I have spoken to the CPW people and they all say "we have not received training as yet so are unable to help, we can send it off to Nokia, but don't expect it back in any time under 2 weeks"...
There are some other posts in forums that refer to upgrading the firmware yourself, but no specific instructions...
    Anyone?
If it isn't fun you are doing it wrong

  • Cisco ISE in Apple Mac Environment

    Hi,
One of our clients need to implement BYOD in their network. They are using Mac servers and clients. The requirement is to authenticate (wireless) users against the Mac directory server, in order to provide access to resources. I am trying to figure out whether Cisco ISE can perform LDAP authentication with Mac server. As per this document, Mac server is not a supported external identity source/LDAP server. Currently they are providing access to users by adding MAC addresses to WLC manually, which is not practical now due to increase in number of end devices, and limitation in MAC addresses supported by WLC (2048).
Is it possible to implement this? Has anyone came across similar scenario?
    Thanks,
    John

The Cisco Identity Services Engine (Cisco ISE) integrates with external identity sources to validate credentials in user authentication functions, and to retrieve group information and other attributes that are associated with the user for use in authorization policies. You must configure the external identity source that contains your user information in Cisco ISE. External identity sources also include certificate information for the Cisco ISE server and certificate authentication profiles.
Both internal and external identity sources can be used as the authentication source for sponsor authentication and also for authentication of remote guest users.
Table 5-1 lists the identity sources and the protocols that they support.

  • Cisco Switching and Apple Computers

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with running Macs' on their Cisco networking equipment. It seems to only be one generation of IMacs' that disable ports on our switches. I do realize many variables may have a role in disabling port settings but it's only a chosen few that it happens with. Not having the authority to program each port being disabled to run in full duplex mode versus default settings from manufacturing in auto-negotiate I'm at a loss. Even after explaining the solution, nothing gets done. My question is could someone post some documentation of some sort backing up my theories? Also if anyone could please include anything about proper port settings for access points on our VLANs that also become disabled at times. I do know through research done that all access points should be classified as such on the network. Am I correct in stating this also? I thank you in advance for any information or help you may provide for me and posts will be rated.

  • Wireless and wired mac pro isue

I recently bought a mac book air, Im trying to use my mac_pro's optical drive, but my mac pro
is not wireless, it is wired conected to a linksys router to get the internet, when Im trying to make virtual conection with the remote disk option, nothing appear on the list...
A step of the process on the guide says "Make sure your mac book air an the other computer and on the same wireless network", does it means that I can't use my wired mac pro 's optical drive to share?
    please somebody help me...

I'm going to disagree with Kappy - it does work with wired computers. Instructions for Optical Drive Sharing are on Page 15 of the MacBook Air Users guide. You will need to install the Optical Drive Sharing software package on the host Mac if it is running Tiger (10.4.10 required) that's on Disc 1 of the MacBook Air System Discs.

You can transfer music files and sync your phone via Bluetooth on a Mac with the 6288.
If you don't have Bluetooth, you could take out the memory card from your phone and transfer music files via a card reader.
You can get a plugin for the 6288 from here.

It's mostly in German, but pretty easy to work out.

  • Cisco Aironet and Apple Airport - Pb with roaming

    Hello,
I'm having a problem with roaming between one Cisco Aironet 1232AG AP and one Airport Extreme basestation. Both AP are on the same subnet, hidden network and WEP 40bits.
    0->Cisco->Apple->Cisco->....... works fine
    0->Apple->Cisco doesn't works
    0-> means Pwk restarted
    Any clues?
    Thanks

No. I tried with both AP on the same channel or on a different channel same issue. Also, same problem with WEP 128bits. However the issue disappears with WPA personal (TKIP or AES-CCMP)

  • AirportExtremeN sharing among wireless and wired Macs how?

I've an AirportExtremeN base station with Airdisk that works fine wirelessly with my MacBookPro (Tiger) and a desktop PC running XP, as well as an eMac (Panther) and a Mini(Tiger) that are wired to the same AirportExtremeN base station via ethernet. All 4 machines print to the USB printer and share a DSL internet connection fine too.
    I cannot figure out
    (1) how to share the AirDisk with the wired machines, or
    (2) how to mount the wired Mac's on the MacBookPro.
I've got the latest software versions and the AirportExtremeN firmware updated.
    Advice please

    1) On the wired machine(s), use the Go menu in the Finder to connect to your "server." It is the same IP address as your AEBS, so usually 10.0.1.1.
    2) not quite sure what you mean, but if I'm guessing correctly, it's the same procedure as file sharing over any network and is not specific to your AEBS or Airdisk. Use the same Go --> Server menu to log onto and mount any wired Mac that has file sharing turned on.
