Clean set up suggestions

I've been working on OSX server for a while now trying to get it to behave properly. Here's the set up:
Mac mini, running OS10.6 server behind an external firewall with static IP supplied by my ISP. I also have a registered domain. This will be the only server on the network, although in the future we could add more. Plus we'd like to have it externally accessible. Though, I'll get it up and happy on the LAN before I open it up to WAN.
I was having some issues and tracked them down to dns... (of course) and so just tried reinstalling this morning with the hostname: server.example.com however when I went in to Server Admin the zones were setup as such, so I followed the instructions on Hoffman labs and changed it to the primary zone of example.com and a machine record for server.example.com pointing to the static (local) ip of the mini. The problem that I found soon after is that any users then had to log in using [email protected] rather than [email protected] Do I need to make setup assistant just set up DNS service skip the open directory set up and set it up later manually? Or where would I be able to change that setting once it's set up. I left it installing tonight, so when I get in in the morning it'll be ready and waiting in setup assistant. My plan for tomorrow will be to set it up as basic as possible, change the DNS settings as per Hoffman Labs' instructions, then start adding services.

Alright, I've tried setting it up again. Set it up as basic as I possibly could through the install. THen went into DNS followed the instructions on MrHoffman's site: http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1436 to set up the correct zones. Then set up the OD server using the actual domain as opposed to the hostname in the LDAP and Kerberos settings. Then when I go to set up iChat or mail users get an address as [email protected] rather than [email protected] how can I set it up so that users will have their address as such?
On another note, using the method on MrHoffman's site, how does this work in a situation where ther is one server providing all the services (DNS, mail, ichat, etc.)? If I create a zone called example.com and then a machine (A) record for server.example.com if I try to create another for mail.example.com to provide mail service using an address that makes sense, rather than server.example.com only one of them gets a reverse mapping record. Do I need to do the wildcard mapping as noted on MrHoffman's site? and will that be suitable for mail... and secondly will the server then know to use mail.example.com when it automatically sets up a client computer instead of server.example.com?
lots of questions, but I really want to get this working right.... I had it working before but then realized that the DNS was completely messed and so tied to fix it using MrHoffman's site but that seemed to destroy all the services I had setup, so trying to get this going correctly from the ground up.
Help?!

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Changed setting per suggestions, updated, unplugged then replugged and still NADA, no sound! Argh, so frustrating.

I've tried all of the setting changes noted in others help questions regarding the no sound issue with Apple TV but still no sound. Am I missing something? And considering this is an apple product I don't think I should by adapters for my TV to translate or whatever the HDMI issues. It's called Apple TV, TV is the keyword, should work with my TV as is. I can understand downloading updates, but at this point it's frustrating that it's updated, I've made all setting changes, unplugged it, replugged it, restarted and it's not the first time this is like the fourth time in the last few weeks, it's ridiculous. I seriously regret buying this, I thought it would be as user friendly as my iPhone and Mac, now I just want to smash it. Any other suggestions, as you can read I am frustrated at this point.

Your computer does have an integrated sound card. This means that the sound card is integrated with the motherboard. If you had contacted tech support then you might have tried all the basic steps.
Run the "Hardware diagonistic test" for Sound and check if it reports any error. By looking at your description it looks like the sound card has gone bad and to resolve this you need to get the motherboard replaced within the warranty period. The other option will be to install a PCI Express 1x sound card and its drivers. This card will be available in any computer near by.
After installing the card you need to boot the computer to BIOS(tapping F10 key during startup) and go to Advanced and disable the on-board audio. Installing sound card should be tried only if you dont want to send the computer for service to replace the motherboard.

App for Cleaning up Video - Suggestions?

I'm in the process of transferring over some home movies that were recorded years ago on tape. Quality is hit & miss and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good apps out there that make quick easy work of cleaning up the overall quality of mp4 files.

My Read Aloud ePub producing popping sounds despite clean audio, any suggestions?

Hello Experts,
I'm having trouble with my Read Aloud ePub, when loaded to iPad and run through iBook, some of the pages produce pop sounds before the narration starts. I have separate audio for each page and they are clean. Audio don't have any popping or clipping sounds in it but when run in iPad it produce pop sounds.
Any suggestions?

I know the answer. US7ascii is 7 bit. Now my question is that how do I convert this to another character set (8 bit) PLease help

Will this be enough to change the existing character set. At this moment the database is empty. Will there be no issues later on.???

How to get a clean set of contacts

I have a Iphone 4 which I have been using until last Friday, when I pick up my new Iphone 5. I also have the new Ipad. I have try numerus times get all my contacts sync up properly. But now I seem to have only one clean contact list and that is still residing on my old Iphone 4. The question is there a way of getting that one clean copy of my contacts sync up on Icloud and than have it sync up to the my other IOs devices like my Ipad and Iphone 5? Is there a way of doing this without having to restore my Iphone 5 to factory settings and than have to redo all my custom screen settings for it?

Think you're right. Seem to be an valid explanation, tho not practical. But that's just the way they named it....
Will check some "missing" loops now, to hopefully find that everything is in place.

TinkerTool setting/tweak suggestions

i love the software from these guys and i love that i can set my screenshots to go to a certain folder with this tool.
i can't help but think that i am missing some other goodies that would be useful on a network or otherwise for customization and thought others might have other fav settings that they tweak with this tool.

In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

Hi - I have reformatted my computer and want to know how to recover my tunes that were on itunes - I have tried to transfer the tunes from my ipod but it has wiped this clean too - any suggestions welcome!!

*If my kids dock up their iPods to charge them (the iPods still have the music on them) will the computer "sync" the iPod to the now empty library that's on the computer?*
If the iPods are set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent an iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. You should then be able to change your settings: iTunes for Mac - Keyboard Shortcuts
Once the iPods are connected it might be a good idea to change them to manual updating at least until you have your library back in shape. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different, you can get details here:

Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

ok so I have just got my Samsung sm951 and I am wanting to use it for my o/s and apps I have a

in the bios there is two settings for the m.2
one is m.2 source link which I am going to leave on auto
the other is m.2 pch strap which has two options one is pch sata the other is pch pcie.
so on this one I take it I set it to the pcie option is this correct.
also can I use Samsung migration software or is a clean install of windows a better option.
last part I have all my games on different hdd and ssd and o/s on its own ssd with apps do I have
to uninstall all games and reinstall them does it make a difference

Value not getting set in NETValue field in Oppurtunities

I have requirement to
make the "Net value" field in Products assignment block of new Oppurtunity editable.
method GET_I_NETVALUE.
rv_disabled = 'TRUE'.
endmethod.
by making rv_disabled = "FALSE" i am able to make it to editable, but i have an issue while entering some value to this field
for eg: if I give 10.00 and press enter its getting changed to 0.00. ( value is not getting set )
Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

I can t get a clean sound in my guitar

Hi ,
I use an IRIG to plug my electric guitar into my iPad
Even when I use the clean set of amps still the sound like if was some kind
of distortion. I put down de gain levels and everything but still there is a small distortion
Can you help me out?

Did you turn the volume down a little on the guitar. A hot pickup could be overdriving the iRig.
