Clean-up, ReInstall PS-CS5 on Mac workstation

I have 3 tape drives and one SSD on my MacPro workstation.
I originally installed CS5 on one of the tape drives (running OSX-10.6.8).
Then installed CS5 on one of my other HDD's I had updated to 10.8 in order to work w/LR5 and onOne's "Perfect Foto Suite" – both requiring OSX-10.7+.
Right after doing this I found I  chronically get this  dialog pop up – on BOTH my 10.6 HDD AND my 10.8 HDD:
1) Whether I click 'Do not Update' OR 'Update' – even though PS is already open and running – a second "version" of PS will open. (I can see within the 'dock' that I have TWO CS5's running at once!)
2) There is no rhyme or reason to this event: It may happen when I double-click on an image file to open in PS or when I Right-click above an image file then select from the options presented 'Open With'/'Photoshop CS5 Application' I will often – though not every time – get that godforsaken dialog.
As I say, I have just purchased a new SSD (240GB)  I intend to dedicate ONLY to running 'Snow Leopard', CS5, LR5, the Nik Collection, 'Perfect Photo Suite' and a number of non-Adobe audio and video editing titles saving files to my two available tape drives (on board), the third being dedicated to Time Machine. (LR Catalog, Previews, Settings, etc. will remain w/the application on this SSD.)
SO, after squandering well over a half hour this afternoon with an Off Shore multi-tasking automaton I was eventually told  "Adobe no longer supports this application; you'll have to go to the Adobe forums".
I'm here hoping I can connect with someone who "fixes" stuff like this on a pretty regular basis and can offer me a simple (or convoluted) process to get CS5 *successfully purged* from my second tape drive so that I don't violate any Adobe Rules by installing CS5 on that new SSD. I just want to get back to being more productive once again...
I have my Brush sets, my Actions sets, etc. backed-up so I can target them later for use on a setup that will hopefully allow for me to PRINCIPALLY work on the SSD, once in a rare while still go back and do some work on the HDD running 10.6.8.
Thanks, mm

Thanks for moving this to a more appropriate discussion venue Jeff.
I may be "fixing" things on my own (impatient guy I am):
1) I am UNinstalling PS-CS5 on each of the two tape drives I currently have it on inside my MacPro. (I am NOT "unregistering" my application w/Adobe – a checkbox option in the UNinstall dialog.)
2) THEN I plan to install CS5 "fresh" on my new "Macintosh HD", that new SSD (from where I intend to run the entire show in the future) and see what that does... (so I can get on with being productive).
As long as you are a "part of Adobe's 'inner circle' (of sorts)" my observations/feelings ABOUT Adobe these days:
- Their "help" pages are not much help at all (much like how their "Classroom in a Book" series is written) – software engineers, developers speaking to one another, NOT to the VAST MAJORITY of Adobe customers.
- I DON'T want to rent software; I want to OWN IT!
- AND after contributing to Adobe's bottom line now for well over a decade (with all due respect; not to come up in YOUR face Jeff) it REALLY pisses me off that I am forced to sit on hold FOREVER when calling an Adobe "help"line – NEVER GETTING TO TALK TO SOMEONE (finally hanging up after 45+ minutes) OR leaving my call-back number NEVER getting a call back from Adobe boiler room workers only to eventually being told by my latest brush with Adobe "Customer (DIS)Service", Farid, that "Adobe no longer provides support for its CS5 applications".
Honestly Jeff? If there were a viable alternative to PS I'd be GONE in a second (because of my experiences w/Adobe these past 5 years).
Having led a Lightroom, Photoshop Digital Photography Meetup group for well over a year before finally just letting it go (making comprehensive presentations to the membership about these applications work – stand alone and in-tandem) I KNOW that the "VAST MAJORITY of Adobe customers" DO NOT understand much of anything about its applications AND the way Adobe treats all these days I KNOW I'm not the only one who is thoroughly disgusted.
I understand THIS is not your job Jeff. Just pass it on up the food chain. Perhaps Shantanu will "get it", begin to smell the coffee before newbies join Old Timers looking for alternatives to Adobe products. (I use many myself daily; have no need to rent the "Creative" 'Cloud' whatsoever.)
Sorry to make you the point of my rant here – trash or pass on to the little man, whatever.
Cheers,
mm

  • Step by step instructions to wipe clean and reinstall

Hello. I am hoping somewhere on here, there will be someone who can direct me to step-by-step instructions to wipe clean and reinstall operating system.
iMac g4 (the dome model, which I still love). 7 years old. 10.2 operating system. It has been crashing repeatedly and I paid for diagnostics, they propose wiping clean and reinstalling, and I really need to do this myself and not pay for it.
Pretty please, I hope you can direct me. Thanks!
    Amy

    Amy,
Before going the *nuke route*, please post who did the diagnostics. Was it a "Genius" at an Apple Retail Store or a third party Mac Reseller?
What is the condition of the RAM (total)..... how much free space on the Hard Drive .... at what point in time did it start to crash ..... did it start after downloading some software .... have you tried Repairing Permissions .... do you run a maintenance Utility like Macaroni to clean up the OSX .... have you tried to run Repair Disk (HD) using the original Install disc of Jaguar .... did you ever update to the latest version of 10.2.8 ...... are you trying to access websites that do not support Jag?
As they use to say in Dragnet ....... "just give us the facts".

  • Reinstalling Photoshop CS5?

I have been using Photoshop CS5 since June 2010 and two days ago for some reason it stopped opening any jpg or psd files and would crash. I am on a Mac with OSX 10.7.4.
I have now uninstalled CS5 ( and kept my preferences and kept my activation).
I want to reinstall it again still on the same computer. I can't remember if I had a disc or got it as a download, but anyway I do not have an original disc. I do have my  serial number  from the Adobe My Products list and the date I registered it on this computer.
Where and how can I get a re-download for my Photoshop CS5 so I can put my serial number in and get back to work?
    Would appreciate urgent help.
    Many thanks

    Hi jeff,
Since contacting Adobe regarding reinstalling Photoshop CS5 from a download, I have found my original install disc.
I had uninstalled Photoshop CS5 and now reinstalled it via the install disc and have run all the updates.
However, Photoshop is still crashing out every time I either try to open a file ( jpg, psd doesn't matter) or create a new document. I have done this so many times and it is still the same.
I have once again uninstalled and reinstalled from disc as before and same thing happens.
I have tried switching over to 32 bit and same thing happens.
Have run diagnostics on all 4 hard drives and all are ok and healthy.
I have  allocated RAM 70% to Photoshop 1470mb
I have upgraded to OSX 10.7.4 last month and been using Photoshop every day till Wednesday this week when it stopped working.
Are there any known issues with Lion and  CS5?
Do you suspect a hardware issue?
Many thanks for your prompt  response.

  • How to downgrade to 10.7.8 without reinstalling adobe cs5 software?

I Installed Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro i7 and it ***! Every little task takes a second or 2 or even 3 longer. Basic stuff from previewing images, tracking acrcross menus, evening renaming files! Constantly getting the wheel of death for every little task - not worth upgrading, my mac was running a lot better on Snow leapord 10.7.8.

    Ok thanks, yeah you're right it's 10.6.8. Does this mean I need to re-install Adobe cs5 though? I don't have a copy od CS5 - I didn't have to re-install CS5 while upgrading to mountain lion.
To reinstall Adode CS5 you will need the discs you purcased and your license code that came with it.

  • CS5 for Mac

Premiere became corrupted so I reinstalled it. The reinstall erased photoshop and illustrator. What do I need to do? Should I uninstall CS5 and do a complete reinstall? Can I just reload Photoshop and Illustrator from the disc? Do I have to delete their folders before the reinstall?

Run teh Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, reinstall everything.

  • Best way to clean and reinstall hd?

what is the most effective way to totally clean and reinstall/upgrade my internal hd ( 100g ) on my g4,15" pb... it has been a year or so since I have done this....want to clean house due to general glitches, etc.
I have 2 external fw hds (os 1.4.3 on one for external bootup to do maintenance, etc).... all of my applications are on the pb's hd..
what I usually did in the past was copy my users folder to another drive... and files I wanted to keep.. then wipe/erase the hd using tech tool pro...reformat using the original pb discs... then move my users folder back and install the new os using my original pb tiger install disc... do a clean install... then move files I wanted from my older user folder... and do the mac os upgrades via downloads...

First off, there isn't such a thing as a Mac OS X clean install:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607614
Erasing the drive or restoring the original software should get rid of software related glitches, however, restoring data assumes you have a couple good working backups. As I'm learning migrating from a new machine, even a good clone isn't necessarily going to recover all the files directly. Erasing should be a last ditch option to resolve issues. Recovery after an erase can take the better part of a day if not more.
So I would troubleshoot your existing configuration given that you are backed up.
How much free disk space do you have?
