How do I recover a part of the database. basically somebody deleted data for dec actuals data from the database, how do I get it back, I do have a backup of the level0 export for the whole database.

First off I would seek to address the problem of how this data got cleared in the first place -- do you need to modify someone's access, etc., etc.
Is the level zero export in column format? You could use a load rule to import only December, Actuals, Year?, into the database and then perform a focused calculation / aggregation
Some would say to clear, reload, and calculate the whole cube out of an abundance of caution but it depends on multiple factors such as when was the zero-level export (backup) taken, has other data possibly been modified (changes that you actually want to keep) since the backup was taken, how long does it take to calculate the entire database and what are database availability expectations, etc., etc.

Clearing the Media Cache Database

Hi, In a tutorial on using Encore CS6 it says to "clear the media cache database"
Why is this done? ...and if done... does it remove any important files, clips, assets..etc that are in my other projects? Is it safe to do this?

PPro and Encore create MANY temporary files, which may be deleted when you are done with the project... your original video clips and project files are in a location of your choosing, not in the cache folders

I always create my project files on my 2nd hard drive (see below) so the temporary files are also put on that drive
My 3 hard drives for video editing are configured as...
1 - 320Gig Boot for Win7 64bit Pro and ALL program installs (2)
2 - 320Gig data for Win7 paging swap file and video project files
When I create a project on #2 drive, the various work files follow,
so my boot drive is not used for the media cache folders and files
3 - 1Terabyte data for all video files... input & output files (1)
(1) for faster input/output if you have 4 drives
- use drive 3 for all source files
- use drive 4 for all output files
(2) only 60Gig used, for Win7 & CS5 MC & MS Office & other smaller programs

How can I clear part of the changelog database?

Hello.
I have a server (DS5.2) in a multi-master setup with several suffixes, where the changelog database has been allowed to grow quite big. One of the *.db3 files (for one suffix) is approx. 4GB.
Does anyone know how I can, in a system friendly way, clear/empty/rebuild that changelog-file so it shrinks to a more reasonable size?
According to the documentation, the entire changelog-database will be cleared if I configure it to reside in another directory, but then I'd have to reinitialize all the suffixes, and I'm hoping I can avoid that.
I've tried reinitializing the suffix that corresponds to the large *.db3 file, but that did not empty the file.
Any suggestions? Should I just stop the directory server, delete that single *.db3 file, restart the directory server and reinitialize that single suffix? Is that meant to work? Or should I do this some other way?

Hi,
Id order to trim the changelog you could have a look at the administratioon or reference manual about changelog trimming. I think the trimming though is best done on a period of time, and the admin guide states that the changelog may grow during periods of heavy operation so it is wise to set aside a lot of diskspace.

Logical databases are special ABAP programs that retrieve data and make it available to application programs. The most common use of logical databases is still to read data from database tables and linking them to executable ABAP programs while setting the program contents. You edit logical databases using the Logical Database Builder in the ABAP Workbench.
However, since Release 4.5A, it has also been possible to call logical databases independently of this tool using the function module LDB_PROCESS. This allows you to call several logical databases from any ABAP program, nested in any way. It is also possible to call a logical database more than once in a program, if it has been programmed to allow this. This is particularly useful for executable programs, allowing them to use more than one logical database and process a database more than once.
Logical databases contain Open SQL statements that read data from the database. You do not therefore need to use SQL in your own programs. The logical database reads the program, stores them in the program if necessary, and then passes them line by line to the application program or the function module LDB_PROCESS using an interface work area.

Replace parts of existing database in J2EE app.

We have an J2EE application, using one database for everything, but wants to change parts of the app to use another database, for example to connect to another database also, and get customer data from that database instead.
What do we need to do, to get data from a table in another database, instead of the current one?

surely this is a database problem? Your vendor will have export functions, examine these. You could always write a simple Java proggy to do it for you, but why not start with tools from your vendor first :)

Losing a part of a database connection url

After creating a database connection and specifying the related url I can connect with the database.
After closing and restarting JDEV a part of this url is lost. So everytime I start JDEV i have to fill-in in the url again.
I was wondering, this database connection is sotred in a file, does anyone know which file ? So i can make it read-only !

I found the file: IDEconnections.xml
The url is correct in this file, but in JDEV it is parsed incorrectly I assume
jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/mov?ultraDevHack=true&user=root&password=admin
Only password=admin is used in JDEV after restarting.
I have logged an iTAR on Metalink as I assume it's a bug.

How do i mirror part of my database at a specified time?

I'm very new to using Oracle so please bare with me. My situation is i'm working for a warehouse company producing their website. In order to search our online catalogue I need to duplicate the product table everyday at a specific time. This is so we can access the data and use it for dev purposes without screwing with the warehouse database or slowing it down.
I don't know where to start on this so some pointers would be much appreciated.

If you are duplicating the product table to the same database or a linked database you can use CTAS. For example
CREATE TABLE product_22_Oct_2008 AS SELECT * FROM product;
If you are duplicating the product table to a different database you can use data pump. For example
expdp user10385493 DIRECTORY=dpump_dir1 DUMPFILE=user10385493.dmp TABLES=product

Clearing parts of the library how?

hello, I just got an Ipod and I never used Itunes before I've always had my own system for keeping my music. When I first installed Itunes it imported every music and video file it could find on my computer (with out even asking >:( ). Since I have an external drive that I use as a back-up system I have doubles of everything in the library! Even if I disconnect my external drive it still shows up in the library. How do I get it to clear out the stuff in a certain location on the drive from the library and make it only import certain files?

iTunes only scans the total PC when first installed. it will not do so again.
You'll need to determine what to keep and what to toss. You have both song references within iTunes and song files on the PC to evaluate. You may have duplicates of both type, or just one type.
The usual iTunes default is to copy all song files into the main 'iTunes Music' folder, so you may very well have duplicate copies of your music files.
My suggestion would be to delete the entire music Library within iTunes, then organize your music the way you want (if you do not want iTunes to use its default structure).
Once organized, you can 'File=Add Folder' to add the song references into iTunes. You should do this only after you de-selected the 'Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding' option, otherwise iTunes will make another copy of your PC files.
Make sure you have a good grasp on how iTunes organizes its music folders if you let it, when it copies files and to where it copies them to. From there, you should be able to manage the data as you need.

I can't stop or clear data from a database

This is the error I'm getting:
Error: 1013018 Cannot unload database [Fin] while user [moore] is performing database operation. Wait for the user to complete the operation, or ask the user to abort it. Log out all users and then unload the database.
But I'm the user? I've checked the locks, nothing seems locked. I checked background processes, nothing doing.
Any help would be much appreciated.

YOu can click on sessions under the server name and select the respective user session and select kill.
click ok. (Thos are all Essbase sessions).
If you are unable to kill the sessions over there kill it from Unix side.
do grep in Unix box (Essbase box)
ps -ef | grep ESSSVR
if you see any sessions related to the application.
use
kill -9 session ID (it is the second column).

Backup up parts of a database

Hi,
We are using Oracle 9i R2 on HP-UX 11.11. We have a 3TB database which takes about 30 hours to backup, which we run every weekend. However, its a data warehouse, so while it is accumulating about 5GB per day, older datafiles remain untouched. Its main tablespace is divided in 100GB datafiles.
A way to resolve the backup problem, I thought, could be by backing up only 1 datafile, the newest one. My current attempts have been unsuccessful, but I am quite new to Oracle so I haven't ruled this out. Could anyone confirm where this is possible or not. Also, it would be very helpful if you could point me to a lead on how to do this.
Another way of helping with the backup would be through separating the database in, say, 2 different tablespaces and backup one tablespace each week. Each tablespace would contain a few full schemas, since we have about 6 schemas which could be assigned to different 2 tablespaces of about equal size. In case of a failure can I then restore the database from 2 different backup sets, each containing a tablespace and if necessary all the system-related tablespaces? Again, if it's possible, please point me to a lead on this.

Thank you very much for your reply. First, I want to apologize for my limited knowledge. I'm striving to become an expert but this problem can't wait that long.
Maybe I need to clarify that this database belongs to a cellphone company. Also I forget to mention that with the current infrastructure archivelogs is impossible due to severe performance degradation.
The tables are divided into partitions, by a DATE type field. One partition for every day. And we never add data older than today's date. That is, if in the last 3 years there have been created circa 1080 partitions, as of today 1079 partitions will never be touched. If concept was the one you were talking about when you said "read-only partition" than you have given me the solution! Somehow this both sounds too good to be true and they would have already known this, so I fear you were talking about something else, maybe partitioning into tablespaces. Or did you mean to say that "while you cant divide a table into tablespaces, you can do that with a partitioned table"? This is also a perfect solution, if it is possible. Please confirm whether this is possible or not and I'll read elsewhere into it.
Unfortunately the consistent set of data is comprised by datafiles, not tablespaces, so unless there is a way to divide a table into tablespaces, RMAN's optimizations wont work. Also we cannot divide a table into 2 tables because the old data is used in some reports and such a change would break the current Bussiness Objects config. If there's no other way, then someday I'll have to put my foot down on this solution, but right now I'm way too new to ask for any such changes.
To sum it up, there are 2 questions which would help me a lot in my research if I knew the answers:
1. Is there ANY way to divide a table into 2 tablespaces, taking into account that the table is partitioned and 99% of the partitions can become read-only (please excuse my ignorance if such concept as a "read-only table partitions" doesn't even exist).
2. Through RMAN, can I backup different tablespaces at different dates and then restore them all together? Doesn't matter if it takes multiple restore jobs. However, Oracle will have to accept a tablespace backed up on date X and another one backup up 7 days latter. Maybe your suggestion to use TPITR was in answer to this question.

Clearing data on Database through MAXL script

Hi all,
How can i clear data on the database through maxl script.
I have to clear database based on some conditions like
dimension 1 : all levels
dimension 2 : level 3 only
dimension 3 : level 4 like so.
Please can any one suggest .

You can clear data on database using maxl. BUT you can do this only if you want to clear all data from data base.
"alter database <dbs-name> reset" is the maxl command to clear data from database.
If you want to clear data at the dimmensional level you will have to use calculation commands.

Database Crashing after successful restarts

I am sort stuck in a process where my DB is starting but after a few seconds its starts shutting down all the processes. The system was running perfectly before but after todays restart this is all happening.

You have two CREATE CONTROLFILE calls and one alter database character set INTERNAL_CONVERT ZHS16GBK call.
Were these part of a Database Creation using DBCA (The Database Creation Assistant) ?
