Clearing Planning Function variables

I have a planning function / sequence assigned to a button in my web planning layout.
The function includes user input variables.
If the user repeatadly executes a planning function the values that were entered for a variable previously are not cleared.
Is it possible to clear the variable values so that the user is forced to reenter a new value each time the planning function is executed?
Thanks
Ian

Thank you all for your replies.
Perhaps I am missing something but I am unable to get the desired outcome, that I am sure is possible.
First a few points just to clarify.
We are using Integrated Planning.
The planning function / sequence uses several variables.
Most are populated using SELECTION_BINDING_TYPE  >  ITEM_CHARACTERISTIC.
As seen below the variable for employee is populated from the row selection of my analysis web item.
This works exactly as expected.  (see XHTML below)
                              *<bi:BUTTON_LIST type="ORDEREDLIST"
                              *<bi:BUTTON type="COMPOSITE" index="1" >
                                                    *<bi:CAPTION value="Employee Adjust Pay Increments" />
                                                    *<bi:ACTION type="CHOICE" value="INSTRUCTION" >
<bi:INSTRUCTION >
                                                            *<bi:EXEC_PLANNING_SEQUENCE_SIMPLE >
                                                                *<bi:PLANNING_SEQUENCE value="ZPS_0112" />
                                                                *<bi:VARIABLE_VALUES type="ORDEREDLIST" >
                                                                    *<bi:VARIABLE_VALUE type="COMPOSITE" index="1" >
                                                                        *<bi:VARIABLE value="ZP_EE_001" text="ZP_EE_001" />
                                                                        *<bi:VARIABLE_TYPE type="CHOICE" value="SELECTION_BINDING_TYPE" >
                                                                            *<bi:SELECTION_BINDING_TYPE type="CHOICE" value="ITEM_CHARACTERISTIC" >
                                                                                *<bi:ITEM_CHARACTERISTIC type="COMPOSITE" >
                                                                                *<bi:ITEM_REF value="ANALYSIS_BUDGET_FTE" />
                                                                                *<bi:CHARACTERISTIC value="0EMPLOYEE" text="0EMPLOYEE" />
                                                                                *</bi:ITEM_CHARACTERISTIC>
                                                                            *</bi:SELECTION_BINDING_TYPE>
We also have another variable in the function to adjust the pay scale increment.

  • Input Help (F4) does not work for Planning Functions in Web

    Hi Gurus,
    I am working in BI-Integrated Planning.
    When I execute a planning function from web layout (through Web Application Designer), the "Input Help" does not work. When I give F4 it takes me to the initial planning layout screen from the planning function variable screen without any action being performed.
    But the "Input Help" works fine when I have to select for the variable from the initial selection to open the planning layout.
    Can anyone suggest me any fix for this...
    Thanks!!!

  • DS 1.3 changing the value of a variable in a planning function

    Hello,
    i created a planning application with Design Studio 1.3 and one of my planning functions is a revaluation function which uses a variable for the revaluation factor. In Analysis for Office you can set a value for this factor by selecting the planning function and then give a fixed value or set a reference to a cell in your workbook. However in Desing Studio i don't see my variable under my planning function and i also couldn't find a script command to use for this problem because the variable is not known to Design Studio. Right now i can only set a default value for the variable in SAP BW (RSPLAN) but i would like to let the user enter a value at runtime of my application.
    Anyone already had a similar problem and can confirm that it is not possible to access variables used in planning functions or has found a way and can tell me how to achieve this?
    Greetings,
    André

    Hi Andre,
    we are using the revaluation function type, too.
    For setting the variable for the factor you should use the following script:
    <ds_planningsequenceOrFunctionAlias>.setVariableValueExt("<techNameOfTheVariable>", <value>);
    It could be possible, that you cannot see the variable in the value help (strg + space) after inserting the planning sequence or planning function to your Design Studio application.
    Please, enter the technical name of the variable manually, it should work.
    We have no problems. In our application the variable is filled by an input field value.
    Kind regards

  • How to link the variable entry with the planning function execution

    Hi All,
    I am new to IP , we have a requirement where the user enters the value 2008 for a variable year. Then we are supposed to copy the same combinations for the next four years against which the user will be able to input the key figure values. But i have only 2008 data in the cube, so i need to generate new records for the same characteristic combinations as present for 2008 for the next four years. I am planning to use a copy function for this but how can i trigger this planning function once the user enters the value for the year variable. I want the planning function to get executed once the user clicks OK after the variable entry. Request your valuable inputs on the same.

    Hi Tilak,
    for this u have an option of executing the planning sequence when the web template loads ie. after the variable screen.
    open the WAD.
    go to the properties of Web Template web item. Under the section standard action of the webtemplate, we have a n option to include planning functions under action before rendering.
    If u include your planning sequence in this this will get executed every time the layout loads.
    guess this is usefull to u.

  • Sequencing of variables when executing a planning function in IP

    I am using BI Integrated Planning and have created a web application that executes a u201CCopyu201D planning function on the click of a button. The u201CCopyu201D planning function has a number of variables to accept u201CThe Fromu201D and u201CTou201D values. When I click on the button, I am prompted for the variable values. However, I would like to re-sequence the list of variables that appear on the prompt.
    We are on BI 7.0 Support Pack 17.
    Any pointer is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Sanjay Kumar

    Hello Sanjay,
    I am afraid this is not possible. There is no option provided to arrange the order of input variables for a planning function.
    An idea would be to include a query in the web template containing the same variables and arranging them in the query properties; and hide this query in the web template.

  • Variable screen in Planning Function for Integrated Planning

    Hi all.
    I have created a planning application with the WAD, based on an Input_ready Query. Manual planning works fine and even planning functions go well, using the command wizard.
    However, if I try to use a variable in a planning function and I set the parameter to pop-up the variable screen within the command wizard for a planning function, I get an 'uncaught exception'. An almost blank IE-window pops up which is supposed to display the variables, but it fails.
    Does anybody know how to solve this?
    Gr.,
    Marc.

    Hello Marc,
    do you still have this error? I encountered the same problem with SPS 9. Maybe you should install at least SPS 10. The variable popup works correct there.

  • IP: Use of input-ready variable in planning function

    Dear all,
    I'm using an input-ready variable for fiscal year (0P_FYEAR) in my input ready query. It's used for restricting my columns.
    I'd like to use the value of this variable in my planning function and I use VARV for that in the FOX.
    However, when implementing the pl.function as a button in the BEx Analyzer I need to fill in the static parameters the VAR_VALUE_1 with a value.
    If I delete this line from the static parameters my plfunction end swith an error.
    I like this value of course to be filled with value of fiscal year entered by the user when starting the query.
    Does anybody know how to solve this?
    Kind regards, Harjan

    Hi Johannes,
    Thanks for all the useful information!
    Another thing on using PF.
    I've got two workbooks with different queries but using <u>same</u> filter.
    Queries differ in keyfigures, but are on same cubes in MultiProvider.
    I can run the workbooks simultaneously: no locks occur.
    I've got two planning functions that make calculations on the keyfigures entered in the workbook.
    However when I inplement the PF's in both workbooks and assign the dataprovider as filter, i do get locks!
    So, the PF also uses the same filter, but doesn't take into account the different keyfigures.
    In the fox-formula i don't have the option to make conditions on keyfigure values (field keyfigname), neither to enter them in the filter.
    Do you have any thoughts on this?
    <u>Second</u> point:
    When i filter on a navigational attribute and execute the pf, i get errors on my pf.
    It states it can't find the value of the characteristic to which the navigational attr belongs. F.i. when i filter on nav attr 'customer group'  (attr of char 'customer') and execute pf, the system gives an error on the value of char 'customer'.
    It states: value of characteristic customer is notincluded in the selection.
    Any thoughts on this one?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards, Harjan

  • Regading Variable in Planning function in integrated Planning

    Hello All,
    I have a requirement where i have to run a planning function to copy the data of one key figures to other.
    But i need a input screen before execution of this planning function where i could insert the characteristics values for which i do not need this Planning Function to be Executed.
    Please let me know how to do this.
    I think this can be done using input ready variables.But i m not sure.

    Hi All,
    With regards to the above issue, I have similar question and appreciate any inouts.
    Used a Planning function - type FORMULA
    Function needs an Input parameter to execute.
    So I want to create a Planning IP variable and assign it to the function call in my formula.
    From the Front end WAD/BEX - want to exceute the planning function by passing inpur value.

  • Distribute Planning Function(Using Variables)

    Hi All,
    I'm trying to distribute KeyFigure value between months.
    For example:Between Jan2005 and April2005 i want to distribute values.
    4000 gets distributed as below:
    Jan2005 - 1000
    Feb2005 - 1000
    Mar2005 - 1000
    Apr2005 - 1000
    I want user to select from CalYear/month and To CalYear/month from WebInterface dynamically.
    But,Distribute from Sender to Receiver planning function is not allowing me to use two variables From and To.
    It is allowing me to use only one Variable.
    Could u please suggest me how to use two variables in distribute planning function.
    Thanks in advance,
    Pat.

    Hello Saritha,
    A variable in the BPS can contain a single value or/and a range of values. In the definition of the planning function you can specify an interval by entering the from value and the to value or by choosing one variable containing this interval. This is why the system behaves the way you described it.
    What can you do? Use a variable of type Exit in the definition of the planning function. Use two additional variables in the web interface so the users can enter a from and a to value. Now in the exit (for the exit variable)you read the two values and return the interval. You can find the necessary coding and a more detailed description of such a scenario in the BPS how to guide "How to... Variables of type Exit".

  • Variables from workbook are not visible in the Planning function

    Hi,
    We're using a workbook with a bunch of queries in it. Every query has a lot of variables declared that are calculated based on two input ready variable that users are required to fill the first time.
    Everything works as expected until the save data function is called, which in turn calls the planning function.
    Here, the user exit variable try to be recalculated again. Unfortunately, this planning function loses track of the two input ready variables that were on the workbook, so the user exit variables have no values.
    Can you please suggest a method so that:
    a) The user exit processing in the planning function "sees" the two input ready variables
    b) The user exit processing is not triggered in the planning function and it's taking the already calculated values
    Let me know if you require further information.
    Best regards,
    George

    Hi,
    the variables in the filter of the query lives in one variable container and the variables of the filter of the planning sequence live in another variable container. They do not know each other. You need to establish a relationship between them. Usually this is done via variable binding for regular variables. For exit variables the variable binding can be done as written above.
    If as in your case you have variables in the filter of the query and you want to use their values in the variable of the planning sequence than you need to store the values somewhere where you can retrieve them in the exit. This can be in a e.g. in shared memory or in the session memory. To do this you need to spend an extra exit variable in the filter of the query. The exit variable reads the real values and stores it somewhere (e.g. shared memory, global parameter of a function group, a class member or something similar). Now as the variable value is stored it can be read in the implemenation of the exit variable in the filter of the planning sequence.
    In total we have 3 variables:
    Variable 1 contains the value which the user keys in and exists in the filter of the query.
    Variable 2 reads variable 1 and stores the value. It needs to be defined in the filter of the query as well.
    Variable 3 reads the stored value and needs to be defined in the filter of the planning sequence.

  • Use Formula variable in planning function

    Hello,
    I would like to use a formula variable in a planning function.
    The problem is that when I execute this function all keyfigures values are set to 0 so the FOX is not executed.
    The idea is to have something like
    = VARV(FORMULAVARIABLE).
    How could this be achieved using FOX ?
    Or how using an exit function could I call this FORMULAVARIABLE which is not used in the query ?
    Thanks,
    Matthieu

    PS: You closed the thread so I have to add some details here. The FOX runtime is hardcoded to 0RSPLS_FORMULA. Therefore, 0RSPLS_FORMULA cannot be copied to a custom planning function type as you suggest.

    Hi Sutrtha,
    Yeah I got the pop up asking to select the variables used, I have selected ENTITY_ID that was used by the interfaces, but on execution of the package the Scenario did not work as the passeed variable #ENTITY_ID is set to 0 instead of the value I am passing.

  • Us Planning Function to Update BPS Variable

    I have read through several 'How To' papers on variables, but did not come across this.  Is it possible to develop a planning function (FOX or User Exit) to prgramatically read and then update a BPS variable?

    <FONT FACE = "Tahoma", Font Color = "Blue">
    Hi<br>
    --> You can write an ABAP Exit Variable and populate TO variable as From Variable + 1. You can then use both these variables in a Planning Level and use Normal BPS Copy to copy data from FROM version to TO version. You can include this Function in a Global Planning Sequence and later on include this Sequence in a process chainby creating variant on Standard Program UPC_BUNDLE_EXECUTE.<br><br>
    Let us assume that because of some reasons you don't want to write ABAP Exit. Then you can write a FOX Code to do copy for you. Choose Version as Field to be changed. You can use TMVL operator in FOX to increment your FROM variable and populate your TO variable. You would have to include all of your characteristics in your planning level to be safe. But please note that this is not a recommended way to do copy. You should use standard BPS Copy Function as far as possible.

    Hope it helps.<br>

  • Pass variables from dialogue query to batch planning functions

    The requirement.
    The user will open an u2018open-for-inputu2019 query (Web Template) using a number of variables (some are type exit). After entering data, the user will close the process by saving the data. The u2018Saveu2019 button will start a Planning Sequence which includes open data slice, distribution, copy,  repost function and close data slice. The user will not wait for any feedback from these processes so they should be done as back-ground processes (in any case the dialogue process will time out).
    The problem.
    The background process will be started from the query u2018Saveu2019 button. This is easy enough to do.
    However it is absolutely vital that the variables are passed from the query (which may or may not still be active) to the same variables that will need to be filled in the Planning Functions in the background process. I imagine that the background process will be a Process Chain .
    Help needed.
    1. Can anyone give me the way in which this is done?
    2. It could be critical that the user does get feedback in some form or other if the back-ground processes fail for whatever reason. Any ideas how this can be achieved at the user interface level. The users will not have 'SAP Savy' and the log in the Process Chain will not be transparent to them.

    One approach..
    Have diff variables for query and planning seq.
    Say V1, V2 etc for query and VF1, VF2 etc for data slices and planning functions.
    Maintain one Z-table which contains variables V1, V2 etc along with their values.
    So when the users select query variables, on save, one exit function will write these variable values to the z-table. The variables used in planning seq and data slices (VF1, VF2..) will be exit variables which read corresponding entries from Z-table (V1, V2...). So background process will run based on what the user has selected.

  • Integrated planning: changed variable does not refresh in planning function

    Hi guys,
    I am facing the following problem. I have a web template with a query and a planning function. On first request I select the variable values through the variable screen, which automatically appears.
    If a change my variables later by using the variable screen again, the query refreshes and shows the correct values.
    But when executing the planning function it still uses the old variable values I entered before during the first request of the template.
    The variable in query and planning function is the same. There are no default values. I tried making the variable mandatory, no success. The system does not use the selected value for the planning function. It keeps running on the old ones.
    Thanks for any comments and advices!
    Stefan

    Hi Stefan,
    usually the variable value of a planning function has to be refreshed when updating the query. However we had a lot of trouble with just this issue in a former project. As Gregor already proposed we used the variable binding to make sure that the proper variable value is passed to the planning sequence.
    When you implement your planning sequence in WAD you can do a variable binding as follows:
    <bi:param name="VARIABLE_VALUE" type="COMPOSITE" index="1">
      <bi:param name="VARIABLE" value="Z_0FISCPER_001" text="Geschäftsperiode (Customer Exit, eingabebereit)">
        </bi:param>
           <bi:param name="VARIABLE_TYPE" type="CHOICE" value="SELECTION_BINDING_TYPE">
           <bi:param name="SELECTION_BINDING_TYPE" type="CHOICE" value="VARIABLE">
           <bi:param name="VARIABLE" value="Z_0FISCPER001" text="Geschäftsperiode (Customer Exit, eingabebereit)">
        </bi:param>
      </bi:param>
    </bi:param>
    </bi:param>
    Althoug we just did a variable binding with the same variable as source and target we did not have the problem of wrong variable values any more....
    Brgds,
    Marcel
