Clicking on links in chat boxes or on my desktop no longer opens them in firefox.

When I click on links on my desktop, nothing happens. When I right click and choose "open with" I cannot choose firefox as an option. I can still open the links in Safari. I booted up in Safe Mode and still experienced the problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, which didn't affect the problem. I disabled all my plugins and still experienced the problem. I made a new user profile for Firefox and again, the problem persisted. I'm about at my wit's end here!

Try making sure Firefox is the default browser: How to make web links open in Firefox by default. If that doesn't work see, Setting Firefox as the default browser does not work - What to do.

• Links from emails in MacMail no longer open sites on Firefox

Since updating Firefox, links from emails in MacMail no longer open sites on Firefox; I click on them, it goes to Firefox, but no page opens. Is this a problem caused by the latest security upgrade to Firefox? It happened immediately after I downloaded it. I'm running Mac OSX 10.6.6.

The irony that you sent me an email to confirm my post...by clicking a link... is not lost on me.

• When you go to File and click Send Link a small box appears with an error message and it will not send the link.

See above.

Hi,
Please try this: Tools (or Alt + T) > Options > Applications. Look for or start typing mailto in the search box and for the Action change it to the desired mail client (the application that opens up in Explorer) if the value is different.

• When I click on a link in an email (I use Thunderbord) it no longer opens a tab in Firefox for that web page. This started about the time I installed FF v.4. Any ideas?

I've done some looking but have not found anything about this problem.
More details --, if I get an email (Thunderbird, latest version) that has a link in it, it will be highlighted but now when you click on it to go to that web page or site nothing happens. I've looked through HELP and tried various option settings and also thought it might have something to do with an add-on but I have not found any way to turn this feature back on -- that is, be able to click on the link in the email and open that web page.
I can copy the link location and paste it in the navigation tool bar and go there, it's just another step.
Any ideas?
Thanks ---

I seem to have solved my own problem. When I disabled the add-on "Tab Renamizer" everything started working fine.

• I can no longer open pdfs in Firefox. I don't get an error message. Nothing happens when I click on the link. Same problem with downloads.

Never had a problem like this before, I was always able to open a pdf or download a file from any site. I used Firefox exclusively to download my credit card statements, bills, etc. but I can no longer do this.

Hi lornetz,
Have you looked at the Opening PDF files within Firefox Knowledge Base article? There is some good troubleshooting information in there. They also list 2 different PDF plugins. I'd try both just to be safe.
Hopefully this helps!

Firefox open, but does not go anywhere.

• Once reaching a webpage, when I click on anything like for example Yahoo Mail options, it will not open them.

I even had this problem on Firefox page. When I click on anything at top of page.. like "Options", little hand does not appear and my mouse is not recognized.
Another example, in Yahoo Mail, I can not fill in the search box for finding an item within my mail. It's like the screen is not recognizing my mouse... but only for some things.
My mouse works fine on same pages when using Internet Explorer.
I have Windows Pro 7 with a Logitech wireless mouse.

• Thunderbird email links will no longer open on the Firefox browser. (I have to use another browser to open email links.)

Since a recent update (either for Firefox or Thunderbird, don't remember which), links in my Thunderbird emails will not open in Firefox. I can't even open the Thunderbird "help" link. In desperation, I installed Opera, and the email links work perfectly well. There seems to be some sort of disconnect between Thunderbird and Firefox.

I fixed this myself. You have to ensure that Firefox is the default browser. In the Firefox menu (maybe under Edit if you are running Linux) go to Preferences. Click "Advanced" then in the "General" tab click the button toward the bottom that says "Check now" and Firefox will automatically check if it is the default browser and, if it is not, ask you if you want to make it default. Answer "yes" to this question.

• Links from Mail and other apps don't go to open copy of Firefox but attempt to open a second copy, so I get "A copy of Firefox is already open," FF 22, OS10.8.4

Links from within Firefox windows open new tab, but links within Mail, MSWord, and other apps attempt to open another copy of Firefox, and I get the "Close Firefox: A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time." This just started happening less than a week ago. I don't know when FF updated to version 22.0.

My problem seems to be fixed--I cannot reproduce it now, though it had been consistently happening for the past 3-4 days. The suggestions above do not seem to apply in any case: I do not want to open another instance of Firefox but simply to connect with the one that is already running; and I do not seem to have a .parentlock file.
If the problem returns, I'll be back. Meanwhile, thanks for the suggestions.

• I used to be able to click on an URL in my email program ( Eudora) and it would open up in Firefox..it doesn't do that now, since Firefox upgraded itself

since there has been a recent upgrade with Firefox, I can no longer click on an URL in my emails to go check the websites

Do you get an error message from Windows?
Sometimes the Firefox installer messes up the registry settings for how to handle URLs in other programs. One common way to solve the problem is:
(1) Start up IE and have IE make itself the default browser
(2) Go back to Firefox and have Firefox make itself the default browser

• When I am NOT private browsing Firefox will not allow me to delete or change the website address in the location bar. My only remedy is to open a new window and search in google then click the link to that site through google. How can I resolve this?

Question
When I am NOT private browsing Firefox will not allow me to delete or change the website address in the location bar. My only remedy is to open a new window and search in google then click the link to that site through google. When I swap to private browsing firefox allows me to anter the website address directly into the location bar - but this is a slow [prcess to swap back and forth - also by dint of using private browsing I loose my website information.

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

• How do I setup the email where when I click a link it will use the already open email tab.

Before having my computer worked on, I always kept an e-mail tab open. I use the extension sbcglobal.net, I am assuming this is a yahoo extension, but not positive. Anyway, when I would I would click a link from a website to e-mail it would automatically open in the tab I had opened for e-mail. Now it opens in a new window and says mail to:XXXXXXX (whatever the e-mail is) So I have to remove the mail to portion and then use that opened window and close that window when finished. The purpose of having my e-mail open all the time was to use that one tab. Is there a plug in or something to make firefox use sbsglobal. net for my default mail client. I do not use outlook, hate it, I have att.net set as my home page and want all mail to go there, not a new window.

Give https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/ a try - that should get you what you want

• Click web link doesn't open a new tab

Before whenever I click on a web link, FF always open a new tab for me. I just recent rebuilt my PC and upgraded FF to 13.0. Now no matter what I change in Options, it only opens the link on my current web page. I know I can do Right-Click but I am just used to this. I found others were having the same issue but they were on much lower version of FF and I don't have any mentioned Add-on installed.

I don't think there is a setting to open all links in a new tab. You can set all links that would normally open in a new window to open in a new tab instead. And like you said you can right-click and select open in a new tab. Also if you click a link to another website from an App Tab it will open in a new tab.
I did find these add-ons that might help.

• Clicking many links doesn't click after upgrading from FF3.6- 12- 15

All over the web, I click various links, some work, some don't. The links themselves work as when I use "QuickDrag" extension to open them in a new tab they work fine.
Example: raptr.com - no links work there but form elements still respond to clicks.

Are that normal links (i.e. no JavaScript or onclick type of links)?
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
