Cliente refresh - performance

Hi All,
When I've to refresh some client and by refresh I mean maintain the same cliente number with new data, I usualy delete it first (scc5) and then copy it (SCCL)
Is there any performance difference between separate the steps and just do a client copy without delete the target first?
Regards

I do not think that this relates to any performance problem.
Infact, this is the first time I got to see that before client copy, someone is deleting the client and do newclient/SCCL.
We always do sccl not by deleting the target and recreating but by just overwriting. why we need deletion ? why you do it ?

    hi all,
i have two system landscape, dev and pro, on hp-unix, oracle 9.1 and sap 4.7.
i want refresh the dev client (it have  old data). i want know.
who to do my dev client refresh ?
how to check compare space req ?
i need procedure doc. where i will get...please provide link then i can download.
    thnaks and  regards,
    swathi

    Hi Swathi,
I normally do a client copy using export and import. I felt very comfortable to perform a export/import rather than a remote copy which will put a tremendous load in your existing network.
These are the steps I follow to refresh my client in DEV / QA from PRD,
    1. Export the DEV users in a transport request.
    2. Schedule the YSTABSIZ to check the size of the DEV client (Login with the target client)
    3. Delete the DEV client using SCC5.
    3. Export the Production data (Select the appropriate profiile for your need) SCC8
    4. Compare the DB size of each table space of DEV with PRD. Estimate the DB space growth after deletion ( DEV data) and importing the PRD data. This can be done through experience and there is no step by step guide to do the activity. Add datafiles if needed in dev system.
    5. Write a shell script to GZIP the exported file. (Perform GZIPing of exported data)
    6. Write a shell script to convert the GZIP file to TAR file.
    7. FTP the TAR file from Production host to Development host.
    8. Write a shell script to UNTAR the file..
    9. Write a shell script to UNZIP the files
    10. Now you have the production data to Import.
    11. Use STMS to import the production client in to Dev system.
    12. Import the user master transports for the DEV system.
    13. Perform Post processing activities after client import.
Now you have your production client in Dev system.

  • MV Refresh Performance Improvements in 11g

    Hi there,
the 11g new features guide, says in section "1.4.1.8 Refresh Performance Improvements":
"Refresh operations on materialized views are now faster with the following improvements:
    1. Refresh statement combinations (merge and delete)
    2. Removal of unnecessary refresh hint
    3. Index creation for UNION ALL MV
    4. PCT refresh possible for UNION ALL MV
While I understand (3.) and (4.) I don't quite understand (1.) and (2.). Has there been a change in the internal implementation of the refresh (from a single MERGE statement)? If yes, then which? Is there a Note or something in the knowledge base, about these enhancements in 11g? I couldn't find any.
Considerations are necessary for migration decision to 11g or not...
    Thanks in advance.

I am not quit sure, what you mean. You mean perhaps, that the MVlogs work correctly when you perform MERGE stmts with DELETE on the detail tables of the MV?
And were are the performance improvement? What is the refresh hint?
Though I am using MVs and MVlogs at the moment, our app performs deletes and inserts in the background (no merges). The MVlog-based fast refresh scales very very bad, which means, that the performance drops very quickly, with growing changed data set.

    Dear All,
We need to Client refreshment form PRD to QAS. The client refresh used to Client export and import method, but our requirement for only last six month data from PRD to QAS. The any option is need only last six month data move from PRD to QAS. Please guide us this issue.
    Best Regards,

    Hi Thiru,
There is no standard functionality that does this.  There are service offerings from SAP -- TDMS -- and other 3rd party tools that can, though.

  • Why does one set of clients out perform another?

    Greetings all -
When I execute sqlplus using this query "select * from SYS.COL$ where rownum<=50000;" from our linux client it, takes 12 seconds. When I execute it from any of several of our solaris clients it takes close to a minute. So the linux client will run the above SQL faster than all the solaris clients by a multiple of 4 or 5 times. The linux (el x86-64) data servers and the sun clients are all in the same room. Some of the solaris clients are virtual (zones) on a SUN t5220 box. Other solaris clients are physical boxes (sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V245).
The 2 linux dataservers are HP ProLiant DL380s. When one of these is used as a client and runs the SQL against the same database that the solaris clients are targeting it out performs the solaris clients significantly.
So allow me to restate - when I run the query from dataserver_2 against the target database on dataserver_1, it takes 12 seconds. When I execute the query from any solaris client against the target database on dataserver_1, it takes over 50 seconds.
We've also tested with a "back door" in place, putting the solaris client on the same network as the dataservers. This didn't make any difference. I've also tested by making changes to the kernal settings on the solaris client, bumping up the max-shm-memory parm from the default up to 7g and this also didn't help. The linux client which performs well is also a dataguard standby server. Why am I seeing such a difference in elapsed times to run this query - depending on which client I run it from? All the solaris clients query elapsed times are consistently around 55 seconds. When it runs from another linux client in a four miles away, it takes 38 seconds. What can I do to improve the performance for these solaris clients?
A side note: running an "ssh scp" against a 1-gb file also takes inordinately long when the source or target is one of our solaris clients. Our UNIX support tells us this just indicates scp doesn't work so great on these clients.

The above pattern is repeated for 150,000 lines of trace output. There are no series of repeated "message from client" lines which might represent repeat ACKing if I understood you correctly.
The "good" trace output file has 150,099 lines and "bad" trace output file has 150,092 lines. No extra ACKs in the bad - just much longer "SQL*Net message from client" elapsed times.
I've just tested with arraysize set to 50000. No gain.
I also set SDU to 32768 in both the client tnsnames file and the listener/sid_list. No gain.
Thanks all for your helpful feedback.

  • Difference between system refresh and client refresh

    Hi all,
I have one dout what is the difference between system refresh and client refresh, kindly tell me the answer?
    BR
    krishnamurthy.

    Hi,
Client is part of a system.
Client copy :Can happen within a single system(local client copy)  or to other system (i.e b/w systems) .
Here we have some profiles to extract the data depending on the need.
System Copy: We are copying the entire system to other system.we get the entire systems data (DB) .
In both the cases we have to make sure that they are on same application component and are on same patch level.
    Thanks!!

  • Smartview HSGET refresh performance

    Hi
I received this email from one of our clients :
Can you advise what we need to do to improve the speed of smartview HSGET refreshes?  I am guessing the simple answer would be to reduce the size of the file, or have multiple of files with the data across.  However I am looking for more of a long term holistic fix for this problem.
We see smartview HSGet formulas as a very powerful modelling tool for our analysis and budget submissions, however there are some limitations namely the speed of refresh’s which are holding us back from using the tool to the best of its ability.
    Interested in any ideas/solutions.
    Cheers

HsGetValue can be slow depending on the number of cells using the function, it has to call and return for each cell.
The other option is to look at using the VBA functions available as you should get better performance.
    Cheers

  • WebI report in Rich Client refreshing - But not in the webbased WebI client

    Dear experts,
I am quite new to BO and I am currently facing the following problem regarding our WebI reports:
I created a WebI report in the WebI Rich Client. This report accesses an OLAP universe, which in turn gets data from a SAP BW through a BI query. I also exported the report to the CMS. In InfoView, it is displayed correctly as well. The report displays the data alright.
Now here comes the strange part of it: When refreshing the report from within the WebI Rich Client, the data is being updated (the current BW data is being shown) as it is supposed to. BUT when refreshing the report from within the WebI Java client (in InfoView), the report would not update, i.e. it would not display the current BW data but instead the old data. When scheduling instance creation the instances would also not display the current data.
We are am running BO XI 3.1, no FixPacks.
Does anybody have a clue why this is happening?
    Any hint would be appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance!
    Best,
    Kai

    Hi Ingo,
    Many thanks for your reply!
The report would not refresh after I hit "Refresh data" ("Daten regenerieren" in German). Plus the newly created instances (one instance is being created every 5 mins) would also not show the current data.
The funny thing is that as soon as I go back to the Rich Client and hit "Refresh data" in the Rich Client, the report would always show the current data, never the old ones.
We should probably continue discussing in just one thread (Scheduled WebI report instances with differing values), this issue seems to be interrelated somehow anyway. Sorry for opening up multiple threads.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Kai

  • Unable to expand DG is Lync client - Cannot perform this action, and the cause is unknown.

    Hi,
I have a user in our Hong Kong office that is unable to open a distribution group she has added to her Groups. She gets the error message "Cannot perform this action, and the cause is unknown. Contact your support team to investigate."
I can add the group and expand it, so can some of her colleague, and some cannot. Her colleagues who can have the same client and global policy settings as she does.
I read in a similar thread that this could be resolved by confirming the server times on Lync, AD (domain controller checked and Exchange but they were all correct and in sync.
The global policy is set to 250 max contacts - but does a DL count as 1 contact, or does it count all the people within the DG? I am getting HK to confirm she does not have too many contacts but I dont think this is the issue.
Anyone else come across this issue?
    Phil

You can run the command Test-CsGroupExpansion to test the ability of a user to employ group expansion.
For the usage of the command, you can check

  • Snapshot fast refresh performance

I have a master table with a snapshot log
on the primary database (8.1.6 Oracle and
AiX). There are 20,000 rows in the snapshot
log which take about 6 hrs to perform a fast
refresh to a snapshot database on the same
    set up.
i am looking for some ways to tune the snapshot to decrease the time of the refresh.

The refresh time is primarily dependent upon the speed of the remote connection. Also it is not so much the number of rows as it is the size of the rows. As far as tuning the refresh you can check to see if the master snapshot log HWM has grown very large. The refresh will perform a full table scan when it determines which rows it needs to refresh.

  • Problem in refreshing Performance Manager Metric

    Hi,
We are Using SAP BusinessObjects XI 3.1 SP3.
On this environment, we have configured SAO BO Performance manager / Dashboard manager Application (not EPM).
    While refreshing the metric following error occurs;
    Error:The probe engine cannot query the repository.(EPM 03008)<Metric Name> : ORA-00936:missing expression
    Any clue on this?
BTW, I have tried to debug the problem and verified that, the query generated for metric is syntactically correct and runs without any problem (when @prompt replaced by actual date).
    Some more details are as below;

the very simple strategy to do is to call removeAllItems() method for the 2nd combox box and then insert the contents. this is because the validate() method is not repeatedly called and so the contents are not updated immediately.

  • Cube Refresh Performance Issue

We are facing a strange performance issue related to cube refresh. The cube which used to take 1 hr to refresh is taking around 3.5 to 4 hr without any change in the environment. Also, the data that it processes is almost the same before and now. Only these cube out of all the other cubes in the workspace is suffering the performance issue over a period of time.
    Details of the cube:
This cube has 7 dimensions and 11 measures (mix of sum and avg as aggregation algorithm). No compression. Cube is partioned (48 partitions). Main source of the data is a materialized view which is partitioned in the same way as the cube.
Data Volume: 2480261 records in the source to be processed daily (almost evenly distributed across the partition)
Cube is refreshed with the below script
    DBMS_CUBE.BUILD(<<cube_name>>,'SS',true,5,false,true,false);
Has anyone faced similar issue? Please can advise on what might be the cause for the performance degradation.
Environment - Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0
    AWM - awm11.2.0.2.0A

  • Oracle Database Lite Client database performance

    Hi,
I need to know well does Oracle databse lite client databse works if it contains 3-3.5 GB data? Does it get sluggish beccause the maximum allowed is 4 GB?
    Regards
    Roomap

We had similar problems during the processing phase (delay here points at a client device issue).
We use Dell and HP PDAs, and have databases up to about 40MB. During the acceptance testing a couple of years back we were finding that the processing phase could be upto about 25 minutes on new builds/complete refresh
We tested out a few different scenarios that might help
    1) clear down databse files and odbc.txt (this will force a complete rebuild without affecting any parameters) with the SD installed
    2) repeat the above, but remove the SD card before the sync (this forces the databases to be put into my device/built in storage
    3) try different types of SD cards
our results found that we would on average get
    1) 15-20 minutes
    2) 2 minutes
    3) big variance of 2.5 to 20 minurtes, but consistent by manufacturer
It seemed that the different speed SD cards made a big difference, and even cards nominally the same speed from different manufacturers were very different in practice.
In some cases (Kingston was one i think), Japananese manufactured cards were much better than the european ones, even though they were supposed to be identical.
If you get a difference between the processing phase when using SD cards vs using main memory, i would expect the cards to be the issue.
NOTE we have also had issues where the user pressed the power off whilst the application was processing (we have some end of visit checks that can take up to 90 seconds). If this happened and they later resumed, the process would continue, but the few milliseconds delay in repowering the SD card was enough to cause device read and write errors. Again some cards were worse than others
