Clip rotation

I took some video with an iPhone4s (no laughing please, I know this is the Pro part of the community but I don't pretend to be one! It's my only HD recording medium!).
As an experiment, I rotated the phone 90 degrees. The clip was brought into events, but as 1080 x 1920 instead of 1920 x 1080, in other words, on its side.
So, I thought, seeing as all the pixels are present and correct, it would be an easy matter to rotate it..... not so! It rotates the video, and ends up cropping off edges at either side.
How do I rotate it back to 1920 x 1080? I am obviously missing something very simple here....

Thanks for the quick reply!
The "project" is normal landscape widescreen. One clip has come in to the events / timeline as portrait, with a size of 1080 x 1920 instead of 1920 x 1080.
The odd thing is, the actual subject of the video is also rotated.... in other words, if it was flipped back to landscape it would look normal. As it is people are walking vertically instead of horizontally.
When I tried to rotate it, it did, but when horizontal the ends were cropped off either side.... just as though you'd tried to rotate a Letter Size portrait photo on a portrait sheet of Letter Size paper.... I know this isn't very clear!
I want to try and rotate the video back to landscape without losing anything. I have no idea why it came in rotated in the first place.....

  • Clip rotate proble

    hi to all,
    I'm a beginner with flash 8 and I've just a problem:
    from the library I import a bitmap (a .png image).
    When the instance is on the stage I convert it on a clip and
    I rotate it of 15° (I've tried also to rotate the image and
    next to convert it), the problem is that the image (and also the
    simbol) loose its quality (I can see the aliasing effect).
    Can someone help me pls?
    I must to rotate the image for a rotate-zoom effect...
    thanx to all

    You haven't put the code on a FRAME. You have put it on a
    MovieClip instance.
    Make sure you are on the stage.
    Make sure that you don't have anything selected.
    Make sure you click the frame in the timeline.
    Open the Actionscript window. At the top it should say
    "Actions - Frame"
    Then put the line of code.

  • Clip Rotation and RT Extreme

    Hello fellow jog-dialers.
    I have an issue where I'm editing some 1080/30p Sony XDCAM footage that was shot with a 90º camera rotation in order to get a vertical (tallscreen) aspect ratio.
    My FCP sequence is 1080w x 1920h, and I have been rotating the footage using the clip's Motion tab in order to match the sequence. However, this kills any chance for RT preview, which is in turn killing my workflow.
    Does anyone have any thoughts on how I could edit this footage (preferably without dumping all the edits I already have in place) using RT preview? The finished product needs to be 1080x1920, and I prefer not to have to preview the clips with my head turned if possible.

    Turn your monitor on it's side and edit vertically?
    Seriously, I don't think there is a way to edit this without the need to render. That dimension is non-standard, only because it is on it's side.

  • How do I rotate one clip in timeline and not the rest

    When I rotate one clip in the timeline 90 degrees it rotates all the clips 90 degrees.

    Bear5067
    If all the clips have the same color title bar, you are selecting all the clips at one time or none of the clips is selected. You need to select only the one that you want to rotate otherwise you will get what you are getting, that is, all the clips rotated instead of just the one. Is your mouse working so that clicking on a clip with it selects the clip?
    Based on how I interpreted what you wrote, we need to zero in on the clip selection. Please try again, and, if you have not already, expand the Timeline so that you can see its contents and clip distinctions. For expanding the Timeline content view, please refer to the -+ slider above the Timeline as shown in the right sector of the following screenshot
    The -+ slider has an icon on either side of it, one is named Zoom Out (- ) and the other on the right Zoom In (+ ).
    In the screenshot here, the two clips have the darker blue color indicating neither is selected at this point.
    Please review, and then we can decide what is going on with the clip selection process in your workflow.
    Thanks for the follow ups.

  • A question about movie clips and the eraser

    So I'm kinda new to flash and whatnot, probably not nearly as
    good as half you people with the scripting and I donno what half of
    things you say are.. and yeah.. but I'll learn one day. :]
    Anyways.. so I want to use the eraser tool to erase a
    graphic, but it doesn't seem to be able to do that. Basically I
    have this picture of an eraser and when I l click the link I want
    the eraser to erase the page, but the thing that actually could
    erase doesn't seem to erase things unless they're made in flash.
    Suggestions???
    Also, how do you make a movie clip stop moving when you hover
    over it?

    Ok - let's go step by step:
    Re-re wrote:
    > In flash CS3 there's an eraser tool that lets you erase
    things, but doesn't let
    > you erase graphics from what I can see.
    "Graphics" is a pretty general term - it can mean anything
    from vectors to bitmaps to symbol
    instances. I have to assume that you are referring to
    imported graphics. Please clarify.
    If you are finding the eraser tool does not erase "graphics"
    then you are either trying to erase a
    bitmap or an instance.
    If bitmap: you must break it apart or Trace Bitmap (convert
    to vectors) before using the eraser
    tool. More importantly, if you are trying to erase part of a
    bitmap, it is probably more
    advantageous to go back to the original source file and edit
    it in your graphics editor and
    re-import into flash.
    If it is an instance of a Graphic symbol, double click the
    symbol to enter Edit Mode - then use the
    eraser tool (assuming the artwork inside this symbol is
    vector art. If a bitmap refer to the
    previous steps.

    Here's where my confusion increases - this is a different
    issue from the first one right? The eraser
    tool and this eraser button are 2 different things? Let's
    assume this eraser button is something you
    made ok? But your last scentence still confuses me - what
    does the Flash eraser tool have to do with
    your eraser button?
    What I think you want might be found by going to
    www.flashkit.com and searching for "scratch lottery
    ticket" or similar.

    Give the MC an instance name and target it on rollOver of the

  • Newbie Rotation Issues

    I've looked around the forum (probably not hard enough) and
    I'm still looking, but I haven't seen this question pop up
    anywhere. My problem is that I would like to have a movie clip
    rotate around a static focal point while also being able to move
    up, down, left, right, without changing the point on the screen in
    which it rotates from. I'm trying to find ways to clarify what I
    mean, but I'm having trouble right now. If this doesn't make sense,
    then let me know. I will try and rephrase it better. Thank you.

    how about some drawing using or screen shot of something like
    that ?
    Can't really picture what is that you try to do.
    Or perhaps something like that in real life to take sample

    Okay, heres my real life example. Take a pen/cil and paper.
    Take the pen and make a dot in the center of the paper and hold the
    pen on that dot. Now if you were to spin/rotate that paper it would
    naturally want to rotate around the pen. Now if you were to move
    the pen an inch away from that dot and again tried to rotate the
    paper, the paper would, again, want to rotate around that pen. THIS
    is what I want to have happen. Instead, in my flash, the "paper"
    rotates around the original dot. So, my question is, how to I place
    that dot elsewhere.
    If this is still unclear I will try photos next time.

  • Adobe Reader 9.2 and AIR hotfix

    I'm running into an Adobe reader 9.2 and AIR compatibility problem. I developed an AIR App with
    browser panel that invokes a PDF doc using Adobe Reader. When I update to the latest Adobe
    Reader (9.2), I start having errors with a dialog saying errors related to the CoolType.dll.
    I found this in one of the devnet articles which mentions a hotfix. Where do I get it??
    I cannot find it anywhere on the Adobe site.
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/reader/articles/reader_compatibility/readercomp_overview.pdf
    AIR
    AIR applications are unable to load a PDF using Reader 9.2
    AIR applications that load a PDF in the broswer will no longer work with Adobe Reader 9.2.
    Recommended action: This issue will be addressed in an upcoming patch release to Reader. For
    enterprises which can control the deployment of Reader, a hotfix is available from Adobe Support.
    Thanks in advance,
    Eddy.

    As special service for you I just downloaded and installed the Reader V9.2,
    opened the Reader via activex embedde into a small GUI
    and loaded via src a testfile.
    Then printed the file (manual via menuitems/print icon) with some different settings.
    All works fine. Did you try other manual actions, like copy to clip, rotate, ...
    Maybe it is a problem with your GUI.
    Try to start embedded using IE as GUI or simple try if you can print a pdf opend via IE.
    IE use the same activex as you for you GUI.

  • List of keyCodes?

    Hello. I'm new to AS3, so go easy on me. =-)
    I have code that enables some very basic manipulation of some
    test movie clips; rotating, scaling, etc. based on keyboard inputs.
    However, these keyboard events are limited to the F keys,
    Enter, Delete, NumPad, i.e. the standard set of non-alphanumeric
    keys.
    How do I get the movies to respond to the user pressing 'q',
    for example, or 't', or really any other 'mainstream' keyboard
    buttons? Is there a list of keyCodes out there that can help me, or
    am I thinking this through at the wrong angle? Thanks for any help.
    =-)

    It all comes with time and practice. :)
    Note that the constants of the Keyboard class (Keyboard.F1,
    Keyboard.F2,
    etc.) are really just stand-ins for numbers. Like dz said,
    you're just
    putting numbers into your switch() statements ... it's just
    that some number
    stand-alone, while others -- typically, commonly used keys --
    have constants
    that keep you from having to remember their numbers.

  • Best Way to get part of a image

    Hi , i´m trying to achieve a behaviour with bitmaps but a little bit confused.
    Objective:
    (As shown in image attached)
    I have a Movieclip with a static Shape on Stage ( Let´s say ... a star)
    I would like to load a image(img1) , then i would be able to, rotate, zoom , and pan the image(img1).
    Then i would have only the star but filled with the part of the image that fitted that star.
    I was trying to  get bitmapData from the image, then draw the star on the image.... And at end, compare color pixels and only getting the ones i want to.... but i get a big mess with the rotations, scale and position of star to be exactly on the place it should be draw...
    Something tell´s me that i´m missing a point and it should be easier...
    Can anyone give me directions ?
    It´s a kind of masking, but i want to save that image only then...
    Thanks in advance!

    I would:
    1) Move and translate your image clip
    2) Set the star as the mask
    3) Once the mask is applied, use BitmapData.draw to draw the masked image to a new bitmap data
    4) TADA!
    As far as I am aware, 'draw' should respect masks? If it doesn't then you may need to put clip+mask inside another DisplayObject and draw that.  Some psuedo code (not tested, and simplified):
    // Parent object
    var canvas : Sprite = new Sprite();
    canvas.addChild( clip );
    canvas.addChild( star );
    // Manipulate your image
    clip.rotation = 35;
    clip.scaleX = clip.scaleY = 1.2;
    // Set mask and position it
    clip.mask = star;
    star.x = 40;
    star.y = 20;
    // Create a bitmap data and draw to it
    bitmapData = new BitmapData( Math.ceil(canvas.width), Math.ceil(canvas.height), true, 0x00000000 );
    bitmapData.draw( canvas, ...... );
    // You may need to use canvas.getBounds and create a matrix to get 'canvas' positioned correctly on the bitmapData
    Hope it helps,
    Peter

  • Question about eVo3 case

    I'm considering the iskin eVo3 case for my 30gig 5g ipod but I can't tell if I remove the best clip from the case, will it still have a plastic knob on the back or will it be able to lay flat on my dashboard. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Read this:
    "Included with every eVo3 is the sleek and functional RevoClip 2. This low-profile polycarbonate clip rotates to give you the best angle to control your iPod when clipped to your belt. It can be completely removed so that you can easily slip your iPod into a pocket or bag."
    Hope this helps.

  • Request about cube effect

    E mann asked me to explain the cube effect I did:
    I used PE3.
    The cube:
    Bring 3 clips into the timeline, each on a separate track.In properties reduce the scale of each one and move them so they are all visible. I found a picture of a cube that I like on the net, copied and brought it into the project as a guide, on a track beneath all the video clips. (Keeping the cube large makes it easier to align the clips)
    Take one of the video clips, rotate and drag it to align with a corner of one section of the cube. Apply the corner pin filter to the clip. In the properties window highlight Corner Pin and the handles will appear around the clip. Now just drag each handle until the clip fits the section of the cube. Do this with all 3 clips. If you want a title on the cube, add it.
    When you are done, delete the cube photo. Then export the movie.
    http://img506.imageshack.us/img506/3401/untitled1cy1.jpg
    For the tumbling:
    Bring the cube movie you just saved into a new project. Now you can scale down the size of the video cube to whatever suits you. Move the cube to a corner to start. Toggle motion animation on, that's your 1st key frame. Then move the the video ahead X number of frames and drag the frame to a new location and set a new keyframe. Keep doing this till you have the paths complete.
    http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/4418/untitled2fd3.jpg
    Once you have the path right, set the rotation as you want it for each key frame. Start at the 2nd key frame and type in the amount of rotation you want between key frame 1 & 2. (Note: minus values rotate counter clockwise) If you want it to rotate more than a full turn put in some like -600, when you hit enter it will show as -1X-240.0 which equals 1 full turn counter clockwise plus 240 degrees. (-2X would be 2 full rotations and so on) Fine tune the rotation manually to get it where you want it. Do this at each key frame.
    When you're done, export this too. All done. Hope I was clear.

    That's why I suggested this thread be started. I would like to hear what others are doing to get new ideas, likely there are many things people are doing which I would never have thought of on my own.
    Hopefully people will be willing to share their ideas, and techniques for free.

  • Editing HD offline

    Hi, new to HD (AVCHD, off my small Panasonic) and am slightly taken aback by how slow it is to render clips compared with miniDV (using FCP 6.0.1 on a 2.4GHz MacBook Pro). I'm doing some simple effects upon clips — rotating, flop, and rotating and flopping, to create a kaleidoscope effect, but a 1'30" clip just took an hour to render. Is this about right? Could I recompress the clips in Media Manager to a lower res, edit and apply the filters, and then output that back as a hi-res version? Sorry to ask what is no doubt a stupid question, but I fear it'll take me all year to do this otherwise.
    With thanks,
    J.

    Here's what I did that didn't even involve using the Media Manager.
    I transcoded my original clips twice - once into ProRes LT and another time into ProRes Proxy and I made sure the clips names were the same (KEY POINT).
    Then I stashed the ProRes LT copies on my desktop while the ProRes Proxy clips fits nicely onto my external USB passport drive that I took with me. I did all the editing with the ProRes Proxy files. Then when I came back, I copies my new project file back to my desktop and started the project up (Make sure your Proxy files aren't available and don't just move them - have them disconnected completely). When it could not find the Proxy files I pointed it to the original footage. I had to re-render everything of course, but I could do that all in one shot.
    I am sure there is a slicker more efficient way but I know that way worked.

  • 6300 problem - turning off - help!

    Hi
    This morning I woke up and my mobile was off.
    I turned it on at the top and noticed the battery was full - strange.
    When I try to go into my messages it says 'Message storage memory not available', after a few seconds the messages appear again.
    Once the messages have appeared, on the main screen in the top left hand corner an envelope appears (like I have received a message) this then turns round to be a paperclip. Then a 'G' in a box appears to the left of this other symbol.
    These symbols then disappear, then reappear 3 times before the phone turns off again.
    Any ideas what could be wrong?
    (Sorry to have gone on a bit, just want to make sure I provide all details in case it helps)
    Thanks so much!

    you can try updating your phone to the latest firmware using the NSU that normaly resolves the reset/shutdown issues.
    as far as the message storange message is concerned that is because the handset is still loading and can take a few mins for the memory to fully load this happens on most of the newer nokias.
    the symbol u are seeing with the paper clip rotating means that an multimedia message is trying to be recieved by your handset and the G in a box means the handset is using the GPRS connection to receive this.
    my conclusion to this is the settings for the MMS may not be on the handset correctly causing it to shut down.. so i would contact your provider to recieve the latest settings... also a software update would be advisable to resolve the resetting
