Clipping path into pages

I have difficulties with importing a picture without background - made as a clipping path in Photoshop - into a Pages document. Did Pages not support clipping paths. I have tried with several formats - .tiff, . png etc
A newcomer - and satisfied - user of Mac and Pages from Copenhagen
Thanks in advance - Frank

Hello Frank,
the easiest way is, create your motive in Photoshop in extra layers and delete the empty background layer. Than save the image you want to use in Pages as a PSD or PNG file. The transparent background will remain.
The other easy way is to use the mask function of Pages. But with this you will get hard cutted borders and no gradiend alpha areas. Just insert the image, insert a shape you want to have as a mask or draw the mask shape with the draw tool (at the bottom of the menu "Inset > Shape"). Now make sure the image and the mask are overlapping (it doesn't matter which one is in front) and choose the menu item "Format > Mask with Shape".

  • How do I remove white outline on clipping paths imported into Flash?

I have been trying to import clipping paths into Flash, but the images look fine, except for the white outline around the imported clipping paths. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could do to remove this, or what I am doing wrong? The clipping path looks fine when I drop it on the same color background in Illustrator. I'm using CS2 and Flash 8. Thanks.

Check to see if a stroke being added to the vector when you bring it into Flash? If so, just delete the stroke.

  • Bring in another .psd file with the clipping path

Okay, this client has a very odd request. They want a collage of images put together in one file and they want the clipping paths to be attached. Then it's to be saved as an eps file. I'd like to do this in InDesign and am going to be posting this same question there as well. I like that in InDesign, the clipping path stays attached to the image when you move it. However, is there a way to do this in Photoshop? I don't know how to bring .psd files into Photoshop along with their clipping paths. If there is a way to do this, is there a way to link the clipping path to the layer so that when I move the individual layers, the clipping path moves with it?
Help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

In Photoshop "Clipping Path" is a special kind of Path and limited to one per image and not linked to one Layer.
A work-around to combine multiple images with individual Clipping Paths into one psd file with a combined Clipping Path could be
    • applying the Clipping Paths as Vector Masks to the images (flattened to one Layer or converted to a Smart Object each),
    • combining them and after positioning/transforming/…
    • copy/pasting the individual Vector Masks into one new Clipping Path.

  • LiveTrace doesn't respect transparency/clipping paths?

As you can see in the below image, I've placed a PSD file of a donut with a clipping path into Illustrator. When i do a two color Livetrace, AI converts all the transparency to white, merging them with my hilights. I don't want a bounding box, i want my donut to maintain the same alpha/transparency as before, but i want it livetraced. If i click the "ignore whites" checkbox, AI makes both the transparency AND my whites and throws them away. Is there any way to get livetrace to respect transparency/alpha/clipping paths?
    thanks

Ok I understand. What to do is to turn it into a live paint group and manually restore the white that urns transparent with the live paint bucket set to white.
since it is a transparent background if I have this correct place it as a psd and I choose to view as a transparent image you will see that at the bottom of the Live Trace Option, not really certain that is even necessary as it an image place as a psd file on a transparent background.
You can add a blur to smooth the edges.
Or you can, if this is a transparent image in photoshop, select it  turn the selection into a path and save that as a clipping path to use in AI after yu used the Live Trace.
Of course there is the manual method of using the pen tool.

  • Eps into flash8 from Freehand ignores clipping path

    Hi,
Flash8 is seeing vector lines beyond the clipping path when
its exported as an eps from Freehand9 or MX.
I have a map with roads etc drawn in FH9, I have placed a box
over that part of the map I wish to export as eps and cut contents
then paste inside box. I now see just the map within the box.
Export as eps. (I do this all the time). Open it into photoshop, it
sees just out as far as the box border. No problem
However File >Import to Library in Flash 8 , then drag
drop to stage, sees all the artwork outside of the box, stuff I
don't want. No difference if exported as eps from MX. Trimming
hundreds of roads etc down to the edge of the box is impractical
for every eps I need to make, as I need to export each bus route on
the map as a separate eps, and there are many !

    > I saved a Photoshop EPS CYMK image with a clipping path.
    It imports into Adobe
    > InDesign CS, but not into Freehand. All I get is a white
    box.
    > I just read here that Freehand will not accept EPS
files. How else to get the
    > PS clipping path file into a FH document?
FreeHand will import eps images but while ID can read the
file and show it on screen FH can only use preview image i.e. low
resolution version of the image embedded in eps file. Otherwise FH
will show only the white box. It can be printed with PS printer or
exported as pdf but placing is of course difficult.
So you must save the eps with preview. But, the preview is
not necessarily 'clipped' and all the transparend areas have opaque
color. As memory serves FH support clipping paths in tiff files and
clipping is visible but there may be problems in printing.
You can also export the clipping path as Illustrator file,
import into FreeHand and paste a non clipped tiff image into it.
Using clipping paths is somewhat outdated now just as
    FreeHand is.
I just finnished a book project which included removing
background from about 150 images. I used Photoshop mask layers and
imported images into InDesign as cmyk photoshop files. Since the
layer mask is a grayscale image edges can be fathered and the
result is way better than with a clipping path. In fact some of the
images had cliping paths but I converted them all into selections
    and feathered layer masks.
Also some of the objects had quite shallow depth of field and
some areas were blurred. Removing background with clipping path
would have looked awful but I just used more feathering in these
areas the result was in fact very good.
Ability to use layered psd files is one of the reasons why I
quit using FreeHand and use Illustrator (and InDesign) now.

  • White outline on outside of clipping pathed images brought into InDesign

Hi. I am on a PC using CS6.
I created some clipping paths in Photoshop on a bunch of images and most of them have a white outline (even in Overprint Preview) shown in InDesign.
I thought I was being careful not to be too close to the edge in order to not get that white outline. I created the paths using the pen tool and path palette.
Please take a look at the screen shots below and I was wondering if anyone has this problem or if there is something I am totally missing.
As you can see in this photo the white outlines are around part of the box and most of the separate pieces of chocolate. This is a screen shot from InDesign.
This same image is below shown in Photoshop with a black rectangle placed behind it and I do not see the white outline. The outline shows in the PDF too when exported so I don't know what to do and I worried it will print this way. Never had this problem before..

Willi, I used your suggestion and I didn't know what I was doing, but it seemed to have worked. I followed that tutorial from that link I posted earlier. I guess I didn't have to worry about a background image. I wonder why that happened, I've never had this problem before.
I used a Photoshop image rather than a tif file. I tried using a Photoshop file earlier on in the game and had the white edges still, but did not use the Alpha channels.
Thanks all for your help and awesome time-saving tips!!!

  • How do I save a clipping path in Photoshop so that Quark gives me the option to change the path opti

I created a clipping path on a photo, clipping out a person's head so that I can have the person's head show up over the masthead on a cover.
But when I save the photo in Photoshop and then import it into Quark, the option where it says I can change the clipping options in Quark is greyed out.
This is what it says to possibly fix it on the Quark help page:
"You may want to choose "None" from the Clipping path pop-up menu when you save the image from Adobe Photoshop, so you can specify which path to use as the clipping path when you import the image into QuarkXPress. Or, you may want to choose a path from the Clipping path pop-up menu, so you can be sure only that path will be used to clip the image."
I don't understand what that refers to....I can't find anything like that in the Photoshop options.
My goal is to have the person's head over the text, with the rest of the photo still retained in the background. As it is now, I just get an import of the clipping path alone, with Quark substituting the background part of the photo with a white box.
    Thanks!

  • Clipping paths not recognized (in InDesign)

Some of my coworkers brought me some files that don't allow the clipping path to be selected in InDesign. These images are saved as PSD format, have a good path drawn and saved. When placed in InDesign, the option to use the clipping path or not is not even available, and the image is not clipped by default. If I place a file showing the import options, I can turn on the path, and it places on the page properly. But invoking the Clipping options in InDesign still shows Photoshop Path as unselectable, but it is checked as it is turned on.
Saving the path as simply a regular path, or as defined as a clipping path, in an EPS file gives me the correct options to use the path in InDesign. Simply resaving the PSD file to another file on my desktop does not fix it.
Is there any way to see what is going on in the file? Though it manifests itself as an InDesigns option problem, the error is inside of the Photoshop file. There is no way to resave the same image document and have it work properly.
The only way for me to "fix" the file is to make a new doc the same size, copy the image, paste into new document, copy path, paste into new doc, and save as a new name. Then the "started from scratch" file works properly.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

@WasDYP: It's only a couple of files so it's not something I'd think anyone could recreate really easily.
Here are the files that are having this problem:
    ftp://ftp.clippermag.com/PhotoshopFiles/DAV44462.psd
    ftp://ftp.clippermag.com/PhotoshopFiles/DAV44463.psd

  • Clipping path

The paste inside in Freehand is ingenious for me use, so the clipping path in Illustrator is much more inconvenient.. Takes longer time to do this operation because you have to watch out that none of the layers disappeares behind each other. But when I am making a .eps of the .ai file that includes Clipping path, Illustrator chrashes.. Is there any solution on this problem?

    Clipping path
I need an .eps file so I can make a .tiff file in Photoshop, then I upload the tiff file in a system we have, so I can get the picture on our web page(the uploading system converts the file into a .jpg in different sizes)
But what is the problem of making a .eps file that includes clipping?
I make jigsaw puzzles, and then I need to get everything inside the frame of the puzzle. Like I used Paste inside in freehand.
We have an archive that includes all the puzzles we have. that archive is only .eps files.

  • Exporting Images and Clipping Paths

I ran into a problem exporting images the was previously reported by Ruvan Fernando on Jan 25, 2006, but nobody had responded, so I'm trying again...
I'm using the SDK to open images and then save them back out with different colorspaces, resolution, etc. When I have an image that has a clipping path in it, when it's saved, the clipping path is missing.
I am copying all the source image attributes to the destination image attributes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I tried dragging it, and it gave the original version.
At Share there are; Print, Email, Desktop, HomePage, .Mac Slides, Order prints, Send to iDVD, Burn Disk, Export
I tried Desktop and it put the current image do my wallpaper.

  • At open, illustrator puts clipping path on images and slices it up HELP!

I am still using CS2, but this same problem has happened when I open a legacy (older version) file in CS4.....   When I open a file, it all of a sudden has a clipping path around the image.  Also, it is slicing up some images randomly.  It is very strang and I can't explain it.  I just saved and closed the file yesterday and today I go to open it on the same computer and all the photos have these clipping masks around them and some are sliced into multiple pieces.  Can anyone help with this???

It's easily explained: It is opening the data as if it were an EPS or PDF, so the fault is probably with the options you chose when you saved the files in
CS2. Check them. also of course keep in mind that some specific features have notably changed, so it may do thius simply to retain appearance, which you can influence by setting teh respective prefs....

  • Storing Uploaded Image Path into Mysql

Hi I am developing a cms and am using the code David gives in his book PHP Solutions,  everything works fine but I can't work out how to extract the uploaded path so that it is stored in my table.

  • [AS][Photoshop] Checking if there is any paths or clipping paths

    Hey guys,
I would like to determine if there is any paths or clipping paths in the files dropped onto the droplet. Then sort them into different folders. One folder for files with paths and one for without paths. Getting the files to move I think I can manage, but I can't get checking for the paths to work. Anyone got a clue? This is how far I have got.
    > on open fileList
    > tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS3"
    > activate
    >
    >
    > repeat with thisFile in fileList
    > open thisFile showing dialogs never
    >
    > set CountOfPaths to count of path items
    > display dialog CountOfPaths
    >
    > end repeat
    >
    > end tell
    end open

    Solved it! :D
    on open fileList
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS3"
    activate
-- DO WITH EVERY FILE DROPPED ONTO THE DROPLET
    repeat with thisFile in fileList
    open thisFile showing dialogs never
    tell current document
    -- CHECK FOR PATHS
set CountOfPaths to every path item
if CountOfPaths is equal to {} then
    -- IF THERE'S NO PATH
    tell application "Finder"
    -- MAKE RED IN FINDER
set the label index of thisFile to 2
    end tell
    else
-- IF THERE IS A _CLIPPING PATH_
if exists (every path item whose kind is clipping) then
    tell application "Finder"
    -- MAKE GREEN IN FINDER
set the label index of thisFile to 6
    end tell
    else
-- IF THERE IS A PATH BUT _NO_ CLIPPING PATH
    tell application "Finder"
    -- MAKE PURPLE IN FINDER
set the label index of thisFile to 5
    end tell
    end if
    end if
    end tell
    -- CLOSE THE FILE
    close current document saving no
    end repeat
    end tell
    end open

  • Can you insert a file path in pages document

Is there any way of inserting a "file path" into a document in the new version of pages. You could do it in Pages 09 but I can't find any way of doing in the new
Version. I know the inference is you are using the cloud - therefore file paths are not needed - but a lot of us still store documents in various places ( especially in the work place).

    No.
Pages 5 has over 90 other features removed:
    http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewforum.php?f=22&sid=b14426a2c5af2 65f2213d98ee45f08d7&mforum=iworktipsntrick
Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Export your Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx and trash/archive Pages 5.
Then rate/review Pages 5 in the App Store.

  • How do I get clipping paths to work in PhotoShop CS5?

I've always used clipping paths to pull-out parts of images that I then save as eps files and bring into other images.
For some reason, I can't get CS5 PS to capture only the path I created, instead it continues to capture the entire image.
I normally create a path with the pen tool, save the path, identify it with the Clipping Path from the dropdown, then save out as an EPS. Has worked thousands of times for me in previous versions of PhotoShop, but not with CS5.
Anyone else encounter this problem or have a solution?

Ok, I did that but it's still reacting the same way. So I need to start from scrtach and build a new path? That can't b
    e. When I make the change and hit selection I am still getting an inverted selection. See.
